Amazing and untouched. A sad reflection of human brutality and we still haven't learnt!! I have waited over 27 years to get here and am pleased I brought my family to share the experience. Con Dao is worth the side trip

Con Dao Prison, that was called "hell on earth" in the past. This is the most brutal prison of French colonialism in Vietnam. This island is a witness of the suffering and resilience of political prisoners. The nature beauty and the spiritual beauty make this island more valuable.

Visiting the old prison, I found myself alone, which only intensified the somber and haunting atmosphere of this historical site. Despite a brief walkthrough that lasted under 30 minutes, the well-maintained condition of the prison and museum left a lasting impression. The museum, in particular, evoked strong emotions, effectively complementing the physical exploration of the prison grounds. The display of cages, buildings, and lifelike human models, although unsettling at times, serves as a stark reminder of the grim realities once faced here. These elements are thoughtfully curated to shed light on the harrowing experiences of those who were imprisoned and tormented under French and American colonial rule. This visit is crucial for anyone on the island to truly honor and remember the unimaginable horrors and suffering endured by many. It's a profound tribute to those who lived and died under those horrific circumstances, and it offers a palpable sense of the past's lingering horrors. I highly recommend this experience as a necessary part of understanding and acknowledging history.

This place surprised me with how emotional and heavy the history feels. Walking through the old prison cells is eye-opening. The “tiger cages” are shocking but important to witness. I’d recommend my friends to come here to understand Vietnam’s painful but resilient past.

Côn Đảo Prison, located on Côn Đảo Island in Vietnam, was a historical site used during the French colonial era and later by the South Vietnamese government. It gained notoriety during the Vietnam War. The prison offers a sobering glimpse into the harsh conditions faced by political prisoners. Visitors often find it a poignant and educational experience, highlighting the resilience of those who endured the hardships within its walls.

This was a tastefully presented museum type experience. The horrors of war is never pretty and to come close to this is both haunting and humbling. The strength it took to survive these prisons is unfathomable.
