Along the main drag, small mom-and-pop restaurants make crunchy, fried empanadas with a variety of fillings, notably the regional favorite "mariscos," or shellfish. The stuffing is made from clams, razor clams, and mussels with onions, garlic, white wine, and aromatic herbs. Other empanadas that frequently grace menus are made with creamy mantecoso cheese (a type of Havarti from the south) combined with fresh crab meat, razor clams, scallops, or quite simply, on their own. Absolutely breathtaking experience.
When I booked my trip to Chile the first plan I made was to go to a sand dune, then I worried about hotel & other activities.
I wish I wasn't so out of shape when I went. Going up the dune is a bit of a workout, of course going down makes the walk worth it!
This is a definite task for anyone to include in their itinerary when visiting Chile! Don't forget to bring your water.
