Old school 1940s cafe. Great classic food items. Easy straight to the point menu. Great coney Island dogs, burgers, fries, shakes and malts. A must stop for the nostalgia alone. Would definitely return l because I need to try the chili and pie a la mode. Good pricing. Amazing staff. One of the best waitress I had the pleasure of being served by. Kept up with the lunch rush above and beyond. I highly recommend the stop to anyone that is stopping on Grand Island.

Google
Great place in downtown GI for lunch, Make sure you order a real homemade malt chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla Cony dogs, cheese burgers, made fresh fries, and a bowl of chili 😎

Google
First time here, it’s an experience for sure. Nothing fancy, it’s like a way back time machine when you walk in. Sit where you can, in a booth or counter. The service is outstanding, it’s ran efficiently, food came out in under 90 seconds. The coney was great, coney sauce, mustard, onions. It was what I dreamed of. Bowl of chili, was standard definition of chili, straight forward meat, beans, sauce. The fries were cooked perfectly, is that in lard? They we so good, I wanted more!!! Lots more!!! Good and tasty and inexpensive. We even got a to go pack so we could enjoy a coney at home.

Wonderful! We visited while in town for the NE State Fair. Our waitress was so kind. Food was fantastic and super quick! Very relaxed and family friendly.

Kashoan W.

Google
We had the best service. We loved the coney dogs, fries, and chilli. They have been there for 91 years. The food was great! The owner is friendly and welcoming. We drove from Lincoln, it’s so worth it!

Google
I've been going to Coney Island since I was little. Their hot dogs and fries are the best!! Make sure to have a chocolate melt as well!

Jessica H.

Google
Food was fantastic and comforting. Recommend the grilled ham and cheese.. felt like home. The chili dog is a must. The fries are hot and fresh 😋 🍟. The service was phenomenal! If you haven't been here, please go!

First visited this fantastic eatery around the age of 8, have come back numerous times. This place is truly a historic landmark of GI. If you enjoy hot dogs/malts and are in GI, it is 100% worth it to visit this place. Hopefully this place will continue to exist for many more decades!

Yelp
This place is fantastic!!!! I go with my father every time I'm in Grand Island! The very best chocolate malts!!!!

Suzanne H.

Yelp
Extremely small old time cafe! Burgers and shakes were great! The carney sauce on my hot dog could have had some more spice to it! Melissa our waitress was great! Funny and very friendly! Will visit again!

Yelp
A legendary classic in Grand Island that generations of families here have enjoyed. Old diner feel to this day.

Yelp
Came into Coney Island Lunch Room around 9:00 on a Saturday morning. You could tell that the gentlemen sitting at the counter with the coffee and the newspaper were regulars and I bet I could find them there most Saturday mornings. Alas, we were tourists just passing through here for breakfast which would include a hot dog (naturally). I sheepishly asked our server if their hot dogs were available that early. Laughingly, she assured me they were. We ordered fried eggs, toast, bacon and I got a hot dog with chili and mustard. I watched as the hot dog was quickly thrown together, all of the ingredients in the front of the shop and ready to serve. The hot dog was good. Very soft bun with tasty flavor with a depth of flavor that I really liked. I enjoyed the rest of breakfast too. Eggs cooked just right. Bacon had a soft chew that I actually like but I think others might want it a big crispier. Service was great especially on a busy morning as they were getting ready for their annual hot dog eating contest a few hours after we visited.

Yelp
Classic food, great people. No matter what I order it's always good. My family has been eating here since it opened and still does.

Rick R.

Yelp
I have visited Coney Island since 1978. I have always ordered 2 Coney Island dogs with everything, and I share the delicious fries with my wife. My wife orders a Coney Island dog with everything too. I have seen Coney's hamburger in photos and by people's comments. The next time we visit Coney Island, I want to try the hamburger, and of course I want their homemade fries.

John D.

Yelp
Classic diner atmosphere. Great food at reasonable prices. If you're craving a chili dog, this is the place to go. Very well known establishment amongst locals.

Yelp
Being from a town where Coney Island hot dogs are a staple, I stumbled upon this spot while walking into town and going antique shopping. I decided to give it a shot and see. Though there are similarities in technique, the execution is different than what I am used to. This spot uses yellow mustard rather than spicy brown mustard. Also the onions are more diced than the thinly chopped I am used to. The sauces seemed the same as usual - and their chocolate shake was good Place is a hole in the wall (not a bad thing), and the guy who runs it was talkative and hospitable. I liked it overall. Would come back- if, I ever were to come back.

Yelp
5 Stars for having real potato french fries, fresh made. And they are real good today. Also a strawberry malt and chocolate milkshake. Third generation, George, here doing it right.
google avatar

Rusty S.

Yelp
No thank you No ice no good Horrible hot dog and bland chili. No refills it's old and dirty looking for ambience but it doesn't work for me
google avatar

Pogo L.

Yelp
The only way to describe this place is ROUGH! Undoubtedly the worse coney that I have ever tried! If you're looking for a good place to eat keep on looking because this place isn't any good!!!
google avatar

Marca D.

Yelp
The coney was decent. The chili was pretty good on the coney. I will go back for a bowl for sure. I will likely get it to go, the service was horrible. The waitress seemed annoyed at any question I asked.
google avatar

Sydney W.

Yelp
Always one of my go to places. Downtown area, great food and great service. Dine in and to go order is available.
google avatar

Kerrie R.

Yelp
Love their Coney dogs and strawberry malts. Have been going here since I was little with my Nana and she went there in the 1940's!

Yelp
As the highest-rated restaurant in Grand Island, I had to make Coney my lunch stop on a recent work trip. The price ($15 for 2 people) was definitely right, and the coneys were amazing (as was the vanilla malt I indulged in on a whim). The fries were good too, but I'd recommend skipping in lieu of another dog. Plenty to look at while you're grabbing a quick bite up at the bar. This place obviously has a lot of history behind it and food that's stood the test of time.

Anne S.

Yelp
I grew up in Grand Island, and I spent many Saturday afternoons at Coney Island with my friends. Recently I returned to GI for a bit of nostalgia, and that included Coney Island. Instead of revisiting memories, I was hit with disappointment the minute I walked through the door. The man behind the counter ignored us completely, and when we asked about the menu he snapped at us and disappeared in the back. I won't return, and I will focus on the old memory of the place as opposed to total lack of respect and consideration I experienced.

Chris S.

Yelp
It's exactly what you expect: great hot dogs, good chili and fries, reasonable prices, and a vibe you'll never find in a strip mall.
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Seen the pics on the website. Man was this false advertising. Got a coney and a bowl of chili. The chili came 1st pretty much ground meat and kidney beans no seasoning at all. The coney looked like as if your kid ripped open the bun. The chili on it had no resemblance of any chili i have seen pale brown. Anyway i did eat it, the best part was the mustard.

Yelp
Honest 1933 diner with good prices and good service. Check out the original cash register. Stop here in Grand Island.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Coney Island is a unique and original Grand Island eatery. While the menu is simple the quality of the food is consistent and delicious. I really enjoy the diner atmosphere and George at the helm. If you are visiting GI it is a must visit. My favorite are the chocolate malt and fresh cut fries.
google avatar

Suzy W.

Yelp
We decided to try this legendary place. The atmosphere was really nostalgic (they have a menu posted from 80 years ago), and the owner was very friendly. The food was average, typical fries and hamburger. My water was empty the entire time with no refills. I am glad we visited, but I'm not sure I need to go back.

Rick D.

Yelp
AlwAys enjoy this place. Fun, a trip back in the way back machine. The dogs Boiled but fun great malts fries. Very very friendly place. It special
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Always awesome! Love the food and atmosphere. George and staff are amazing! If you're ever in Grand Island, you must make it a point to stop in and enjoy an authentic coney and malted!
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Fun experience. Friendly staff. Coney Dogs, fries and their malts are delicious. If I was in the area again, I would definitely come here again.

Yelp
Whenever I am within 50 Mile's of this place, I go grab a few Coney islands with everything. It's good fast service and you always know what you are getting. The place hasn't changed in forever. Sometimes it's tough for me to get there before they close (5). But, I'm always glad to get there when I can. Growing up near Cincinnati, Coney's are a very big deal and I was glad when I found this gem.

Dawn M.

Yelp
best Coney dogs ever. outstanding management and service. i always recommend Coney Island to people who can't decide what to have for lunch
google avatar

Yelp
If you live I the area, or are just passing through, don't miss this terrific family owned establishment. We were in luck because 88 year old Gus (the 2nd generation owner) was there when we arrived, as was his son (3rd generation), who runs the place. When he heard we had come from N. J., Gus regaled us with stories of his time in the Army (1948 Ft. Dix, N. J.) and adventures in & around the N. Y. C. area. We then heard some very interesting, humorous stories about Grand Island. The gals who served us could not have been nicer & it really was like we were visiting. Oh yeah...THE FOOD....The Coney Dogs & Black and White malted were just great.
google avatar

Carlin E.

Yelp
Best place ever if you want to step back in time and the malt and home made fry's are fantastic and the coney dogs are delicious can't wait to go back great atmosphere and everyone is so nice it feels like the old days

Yelp
I was again in Grand Island on business and heard about this place from a coworker. When you walk in, you instantly feel like you've stepped into a small town American institution. The place is narrow with a row of booths to the left and the long lunch counter to the right. Above the counter, you have a collection of miniature football helmets of NFL and college teams (funny enough they had my college team's helmet and even our rivals, those dang Cougars.). To the far left, they display the original 1933 menu where a cheese sandwich was more expensive than a burger and 35 cent t-bones. I also have to mention the old green Hamilton Beach milkshake maker right next to the newer grey one. You look around this busy lunch room and you know that the people who eat there are local regulars. My coworkers and I ordered the signature coney dog, a hot dog with a meat chili topping, mustard, and onions. We also had fries and milkshakes. To be honest, the coney dogs were just ok, the fries weren't bad, but the milkshakes were just awesome. I would go back just for those milkshakes. Bottomline, this place has a lot of history, charm, and local flavor. Stop by for lunch (before 3 pm) and try a milkshake.

Yelp
Our most favorite place to go when in town! My fav to order: one up, no onions (that's one Coney dog on a plate, with no onions); side of fries; chocolate malt. Be sure to use your spoon to guide that malt out of your metal mixing cup and into your small one-- just like Gus taught me back in the day!-- or you will spill!
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
Great food for really cheap. This place was everything I expected, other than service was a bit slower than I'd typically hope for at a place like this. That said, it was Black Friday and they were particularly busy. Malts were fantastic and HUGE, burgers were good, fries were great. The Coney dog is clearly the reason to come here, but I could have used the onions sauteed just a bit to take some of the edge off. Other than that, this place is everything you want in an old-fashioned lunch diner.
google avatar

Pablo R.

Yelp
This places by far has the best hotdogs in town!!! I love it here and there burgers are always fresh made.
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Have been going here for over 50 years! Always have to stop in when we come back to visit. Food is always just like it was when I was younger. The coney dogs are amazing.
google avatar

Micheal J. M.

Yelp
A true tradition. Special treat. Frys are real. Malts amazing like my grandma made. My dad took me a child, took my son, he takes his. You might have to wait for a seat. It's worth it.
google avatar

Last L.

Yelp
Yeah it's a pretty good coney. Go for the service in late afternoon when no one is there, and sit around listening to Gus tell you stories about the old days. He'll talk your ear off. The fries are great as well. Unbelievably low cost. Think i paid $5 for a coney, fries and a beve.
google avatar

Tyra L.

Yelp
I was not impressed. The food was so so. No ice for their drinks. Waitress was almost rude. I had heard good things, but I was very disappointed!
google avatar

Dave F.

Yelp
Absolutely the best coney (chili) dogs you will ever have. Sauce mustard and onions, don't even THINK of asking for ketchup (except for wonderful home-made fries). And it's true, Gus and his son George will remember you even if you (like me) hadn't lived in GI or been to Coney Island in years. Truly a Class lunchroom, if there is such a thing
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Just some tips for other rookies: 1- seat yourself 2- use a spoon to pour your shake into the glass 3- the hamburgers are just as good as the dogs 4- don't wait for a bill/ticket, just head to the register and tell them what you had will be back

Yelp
I took a trip here on my way to Omaha and it was well worth the de-tour. It's slightly off the 80 and you must stop in! It definitely has an old school feel to it that you don't see around anymore. The owner greeted me and will tell you what he recommends - the hot dogs of course! I ordered 2 hot dogs with a side of fries. The real treat was the owner telling you stories and showing you pictures from back in the day. He has a real passion towards life and his business. The hot dogs were delicious as well. There are some places that you root for to do well, and this is one of them.
google avatar

Sammy F.

Yelp
My dad is from Grand Island so every year we visit, it is mandatory to stop and get some coneys and malts. We have nothing like it back home. The customer service is also spectacular. I included a picture of the original menu from 1933 when it opened. Yesterday, we had what is probably our last time eating at Coney Island (because grandma recently passed away), so we had a toast to the grandparents with our last coneys. It's a bittersweet moment leaving something that has been a longstanding part our lives. I hope another family takes up this fabulous place as their lunch spot like mine did.
google avatar

Momma M.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with the famous Coney Dog! YUM YUM YUM! And the homemade fries were great!
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
This place is a slice of Americana. From the vintage milkshake machines to the basic, yet delicious, coneys. Being from California, I don't get to see many places like this. Extremely friendly workers that really seem to want to get to know you.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
We love the nostalgia of Coney Island, esp. since we are native Islanders. But, we were very disappointed. We had to ask for the table to be wiped, ask for ketchup, forks, and straws. We were treated like we were a bother. No friendliness, saw our server at the initial order and that was it. We needed a to go order and when our server could not be found, we got a "I guess I can do it" from another server. It saddens me to write this, but we had a very poor experience
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
First time stopping . Was like going back in time. Food was great with friendly people. Will definitely make it a have to stop .
google avatar

Terry P.

Yelp
Coney Island is a long-time favorite for all Grand Island natives cannot be beat on the chili dogs the chili or anything on their menu a great place to stop during the Harvest of Harmony parade or any other time excellent parking all around
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
Acceptable prices but the taste of burger and their Friday fish is no better than what you can get at a fast food chain like McDonalds or Burger King. I went there just to see what kind of food has allowed this restaurant to survive for so long. I think it is loyal locals who don't care so much about the food quality but to support the owner so that the small town continues to have a place to socialize and eat cheap food.

Treston W.

Yelp
pretty good Coney dog, great milshake.. nice old school atmosphere. I would definitly come back

Steven C.

Yelp
Every grown up originally from the area no matter where they went off to or what planet they are currently on, will always make their way back to the Coney Island cafe. Gus and George have always had this crazy way of knowing and remembering everyone and everyone you ever knew. Pure nostalgia every visit. Get your grease fix here!!!!
google avatar

Derrick M.

Yelp
The best. I live in New York City and this is way better than any coney I've eaten in the city. Best fries and the burgers are old school and delicious. The authenticity of this place is what makes it amazing. If you get anything at Coney Island, it's the chocolate malt and two coney dogs.
