Nestled across two stunning private islands in the Maldives, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island wows with airy villas, an iconic underwater restaurant, and unparalleled ocean views, making it a paradise for luxury seekers.
"A scenic seaplane ride bookended my sunset-streaked, frangipani-scented stay at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, which landed on T+L’s World’s Best Awards list in 2023. Each morning, I woke to a new postcard-perfect view from my overwater villa, where small reef sharks swam past as I enjoyed a floating breakfast in my personal infinity pool. The staff treated me like royalty; thanks to them, it’s hard to pin down the most memorable moments of my weeklong stay, but lunch at Ithaa, the world’s first undersea dining experience, and a massage at the newly renovated overwater spa both took my breath away. The property’s barefoot luxury approach is spread over two expansive islands: one is dedicated to family fun (there’s a kids’ and teens’ club), while the adults-only side allows you to unwind in delicious silence. On both sides, you can sign on for meal plans that include daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a range of alcoholic beverages at several of their 12 restaurants and bars. Their most generous packages also include a 25 percent discount off spa treatments and return seaplane transfers. Best of all, Hilton Honors Members get an extra 3 percent discount per night, and can use loyalty points to upgrade their room." - Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd Sophie Dodd is a travel, wine and lifestyle writer. "Conrad hotels, a boutique extension of Hilton, went all out on two private islands in the Maldives with overwater villas—and the underwater Muraka Villa at Conrad Maldives. The retreats that hover above the ocean on stilts are sanctuaries with infinity pools and large verandas. For something a little different, 16 feet below the water’s surface and surrounded by glass walls, you’ll find the Muraka Villa, which has a bedroom with its own bathroom and television—though you’d probably spend most of your time staring at the fish and marine life surrounding you." - Annie Fitzsimmons
"The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort has had overwater bungalows for years. But in November 2018, it debuted a two-level villa called the Muraka, which means “coral” in the local Dhivehi language. Upstairs at sea level, there are two bedrooms, a bathroom with an oceanfront tub, and an outdoor deck with an infinity pool. From here, you take a spiral staircase or elevator down to your underwater lair, which is submerged 16 feet below the Indian Ocean. The villa’s main bedroom is located inside a 180-degree clear acrylic tunnel, like those you sometimes see in aquariums. This resort previously made waves when it opened Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, the first of its kind in the world, offering set lunch and dinner menus with a show: dazzling fish swimming around the coral gardens outside the window." - Lyndsey Matthews
