⭐☆☆☆☆ An absolute disgrace! What is happening at the gates of the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt is not just bureaucracy — it is pure lawlessness and a corrupt system. 🔒 The security guards openly deny access to the consulate and send people to a private kiosk, where they demand cash (30 euros!) for a “term” that should be free and available through the official website. 📞 The consulate hotline hangs up on calls. No one answers. Absolute isolation from any help! 🤯 A single mother with a U.S. citizen infant has no possibility of getting assistance. People are being shamefully filtered based on origin and language, which feels more like racial segregation than a civilized diplomatic institution. 🆘 This is not just about formalities — it is a violation of basic human rights and a disgrace for a country that claims to stand for freedom and the protection of its citizens! Where is your conscience, USA? Where is the help for those who truly need it?!

Excellent Experience at the U.S. Consulate Frankfurt I recently had two appointments at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt — one for U.S. passport renewal for my son (U.S. citizen) and another for B2 tourist visa for myself, my wife, and our elder son. From the moment we arrived, it was a great experience — all the staff were welcoming, polite, and always ready to help and clarify our questions with a smile. Parking & Entry: We reached the consulate around 7:30 AM. Street parking is available nearby (up to 3 hours, around €7 — you can pay by machine or via apps like EasyPark). After crossing the road, a friendly staff member greeted us and checked if we had food items or electronic devices. It’s best not to bring laptops, phones, or bags inside (there may be a kiosk nearby for storage). Security & Check-In: After showing our DS-160 confirmation page and passports, barcodes were added to our passports. Security was smooth and professional — we removed belts, watches, and jackets. My watch was securely stored, and I collected it later using a token. 🇺🇸 U.S. Passport Renewal At Counter 2, I submitted my son’s documents (DS-11 form, photo, DHL label, and passport). The staff advised not to stick the photo beforehand — they handled everything neatly. After verification, we received a token and waited upstairs. The officer who assisted us was extremely kind, reviewed our documents carefully, asked us to take an oath, and guided us through the entire process efficiently. We were informed that the new passport would arrive within 4–6 weeks. Special thanks to both officers for their professionalism and friendly approach. 🛂 B2 Tourist Visa For the visa interview, we joined the non-immigrant visa queue and submitted our DS-160 and passports again. Fingerprints were taken (left hand, right hand, and both thumbs). During the interview, the officer asked a few standard questions: How long have you been in Germany? Where do you work and what’s your designation? What’s your highest level of education? What’s the purpose of your travel and duration of stay in the U.S.? The same questions were asked to my wife as well. The officer then smiled and said our visa was approved! We had the appointment on Monday morning, and by Wednesday night, I received an email that the passports were ready for collection. Delivery to home was also possible (premium option, around €33). The visa fee was approximately €165, and I could schedule the appointment within two weeks. Overall, it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Germany — the process was efficient, well-organized, and the staff were extremely courteous. A big thank you to all the officers and employees at the U.S. Consulate Frankfurt for their professionalism, kindness, and helpful attitude. Highly recommended!

I applied for a non-immigrant visa and got an interview scheduled in less than a month. My slot was at 7:45, I arrived a bit early, and everything went really smoothly. There are several security steps, but it’s all well organized. I didn’t bring anything except my car key, but I noticed there’s a small locker at the entrance, so better to take only what you really need! Everyone I met was super friendly and helpful. The highlight for me was the consular officer who did the interview in Portuguese! She was so kind. By 8:10 I was already done and leaving the consulate.

Absolutely wonderful experience. From emailing the consulate to the security at the front to the employees helping with my passport everyone was amazing. The staff here made my stressful passport situation (which was my fault) seem like no problem at all. I was going to run out of room for visa stamps before I made it back home to the US. There is some other time constraint issues I had but they worked with me and helped figure out a solution that was better than my best case scenario. Tammy helped me figure out the solution and she was wonderful. Thank you Tammy for all the help. I’ll have a new full passport before my next flight out of the EU and don’t have to cancel any of my EU road trip. Tips for people visiting: There is lots of paid parking on the street out front. Arrive as early as possible especially if you’re not a US citizen. When I arrived at 7:30 there was no lines but leaving at 9 the lines looked like they could take a few hours.

Great service! The team at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt was kind, efficient, and really helped me with almost everything. They solved 99,9% of my situation — truly grateful! 🙏💌❤️

Staff are generally very friendly and supportive (security is, well, security), but the bureaucratic procedure is arduous, especially if you come by public transport, as you can not take bags and devices inside and there are no lockers. What's good to know: 1. There are photo booths if your own pictures are rejected 2. You pay by credit card or cash, no EC cards accepted. You can withdraw cash at an ALDI supermarket nearby, if necessary (shop for 5 Euros) 3. Today you were allowed to take your phone in, if turned off completely. I wouldn't rely on that, though 4. There is a private kiosk near the U-Bahn station Feuerwehrstrasse that will hold your bags etc. for a fee. We took two hours in total for our appointment, with several ins and outs (fotos, cash) and it was not too much fun on such a rainy day.

Even though my visa application was rejected, but thats a diff matter. All ppl there are very friend, be it guard front office and consulate itself. Unlike what was projected by the official website which trying to discourage ppl fr bring anything but "wallet and doc only". (sounds like so strict: "cant even bring hp"..what age now? who don't bring hp every where? ) u can bring hp and ear phone etc ..it will be stored with the " friendly security check officer", just dont go overboard..

The people is very kind but the way the waiting area is organized is really horrible. Instead of holding a number and waiting seating on a chair (as in any other embassy), You have to queue standing for two hours. I do not understand this.

Yelp
They stole my German husband, American baby and mine passport in Cologne airport. We didn't notice till the night before our scheduled flight back to California. Husband was able to get his temporary passport the next day but baby and I had to go all the way to Frankfurt to get temporary ones. -So if you lose your passport while in Germany be prepare to go this this particular Embassy (sorry) - YOU CANNOT BRING IN YOUR CELL PHONE OR ANY KIND OF ELECTRONICS! So if you also take the train to the consulate, on that stop there's a small store on the corner. Since I didn't know a employee of the US embassy told me to walk back to and leave my cell. The owner of the store will charge you 5 euros. He gives you a ticket to use to pick up your belongings. -But good news, the 2 times I went the US nationals line was empty compared to the German citizens (they have a long line) When you get to the front of the lonely line they basically give you the right away. Tut mir Leib deutsche Leute! -Have a legit sized pic ID with you. They do have a vending machine booth inside but you'll waste less time. Made sure you have the application filled out. And it really helps if you have a printed pic of your old passport! They even ask for my baby's birth certificate. Hmm... I don't know who travels with that doc Word of advice: take a pic of it just in case this crap happens to you -And in case the father leaves you in Germany with your baby make sure he gets a Notarize permission travel document before he leaves! Stating that other parent is allowed to travel with the baby/kid. Bec/ the embassy WILL ask for it and you must get it to them ASAP or else your little ones won't get a temp passport. https://www.nationalnotary.org/notary-bulletin/blog/2015/04/3-tips-notarizing-travel-docs-minors -Also the reason why I had to go back a second time was due to the fact that I didn't take my baby with me. I was able to get my temporary passport the same day but had to come back the next with with my baby "proof". -Embassy employees are understanding and helpful . Extra facts: *There's a small children's room with toys. *If you bring a drink be ready to drink up I front of security (even baby's milk) FYI: there's a mini coffee stand inside and vending machines inside. *They have high security protocol. *They have a passport picture machine inside I can't remember if it cost 5-7 euros (bring cash)

Yelp
I wish they had more staff to accelerate the visa interview process. They had so many counters, but not enough personnel. Hence, visa applicants had to needlessly wait in the queue for a long time. Other things to be aware of: - The consulate can keep your electronic items. They say on the website that they don't because, I guess, they have only limited storage space. - If you have a big backpack, it's best to keep all your stuff at the store next to the Gießener Straße U-Bahn stop. It costs €3 for the day. Address: Imbiss Kiosk am US Konsulat, Gießener Str. 58, 60435 Frankfurt am Main. - If you don't have a latest physical photo, you can click one at the photo booth inside the consulate. It costs €6 for four pictures.

Yelp
I had my passport stolen at Duesseldorf Hbf (what a headache, I wish I found the perpetrator...). I tried to get my passport renewed at the US embassy in Amsterdam and was unsuccessful. If you live in Europe and need to travel within Europe, that is not deemed an emergency. Therefore, I was forced to go to Frankfurt with a scheduled appointment. I arrived early and the whole process was quicker and more efficient than with the Dutch. One separate line for American citizens which was nice. I was in and out in 2 hours and a lot of the time was waiting at the very end to swear that everything I wrote in the report was true. New passport was delivered in 2 weeks! FYI, do not bring any electronics including your cell phone or laptop (I stored my stuff in a Frankfurt AM Hbf locker). And be sure to have all documents and the necessary info ready to speed up the process.

Yelp
My German husband went in for his immigrant visa interview and everything went smoothly. They won't tell you this over the phone, but there is a place on-site to lock up small items such as a smart watch or cell phone (since these aren't allowed inside) for free. As someone posted before, there's still the kiosk at the corner of Gießener Str. and Marbachweg where you can pay 4€ to store your belongings that you can't bring into the consulate. Everyone there spoke German, which was unexpected, and though the wait-times were long, everyone was pleasant and everything went smoothly.

Yelp
I appreciate the help I have received here. My daughters passport had expired and I need to get it while I was traveling in Germany with her and they have helped me very much. 3 Stars because of the people that are very hard to reach over the phone and the ones I talked to were very rude and cut me off and told me to look online. Not appropriate towards a customer.

Yelp
They get their shit done but boy are some of them ruuuuuuuuude as bon quiqui would say. Waiting time is average and I like there US candy vending machines to sweeten up the time in there..
