Lovely convent with some lovely art work, nice and peaceful. Can be visited in a short space of time. A good place to reflect. Very reasonably priced

It is a small, but very old convent open to the public between 10:00-12:30 and 14:00-17:00. The entrance fee is €10, but if you are under 30 only €5. The tiles are amazingly beatiful just like the inner courtyard, and the lady at the entrance is super sweet. Don't expect the Belem Monastery, but if you are in Funchal, it is worth a visit.

Open every day except Mondays. €10 euros for adults or €5 if you are over 65. Of course we were 65 which made it reasonable. Lovely buildings and small chapels with an insight into the Poor Clare nuns who set the place in the 1400s.

Beautiful monastery, worth a visit. You go through it yourself, the entrance fee is 10€ and for students with ISIC the entrance is free. Just watch out for the lunch break, in the meantime we went to look elsewhere before they open.

The church of St. Clara shows a beautiful testimony of her life and is an excellent dedication to her, as are the relics which can be seen just after you visit the church area. There is the main altar area, the inside chapel, and the old altar piece. In the Santa Clara Convent there is still a rich amount of carved wood decorated with gold leaf as well as Baroque styles. On its walls, it displays Hispano-Arabic tiles dating from the 17th century. In turn, the ceilings are worked in wood. These facilities also house a collection of restored 17th- and 18th-century canvases. Each one provides a different atmosphere in which to pray or to simply be present, and all are wonderful. Definitely do not miss this church in Funchal.
