At first we loved this hotel. The setting in the hills outside Antequera is splendid, the conversion from convent to hotel has been well done, although it’s looking a bit shabby - leaking gutter in the inner courtyard, torn fabric in dining room blinds, faded worktop round sink. Great restaurant with views of limestone crags and good food (though lots of meat, not much vegetables). |But on our last full day a party of 40 Spanish electricians arrived for lunch then supper. In between they packed the bar, shouting and singing, unmasked despite Covid. We retreated to the restaurant at 8 pm to find the staff starting to set tables for the group for their supper. One table was set for us. The staff thought we’d be happy to eat with them working round us! We complained. It took 30 minutes of explaining by us for them to find a solution - supper in a quiet alcove in the basement. We asked to see the Manager. He/she didn’t come. The staff were apologetic and gave us free drinks that night but our stay was spoilt. They had been polite throughout but seemed to have no idea what a 5 star, or even a 3 star experience should be. The Hotel should have cancelled our booking for that night or sent us to another hotel to eat.
