We visited Conwy Castle on a Sunday in autumn, and it was such a wonderful experience! I’m not sure how it looks in other seasons, but in late October and early November, the view from the top of the castle is absolutely breathtaking. The trees around the town are painted in so many beautiful autumn colours — it’s truly a spectacular sight from above! The castle itself is very well preserved and tidy. We climbed up one of the towers with our 10-year-old son — and it was a big moment for him because he’s afraid of heights. It actually turned into a great way for him to face his fear! If you visit with kids, I’d recommend being extra careful when going up the stone stairs and pathways — they’re uneven and can be a bit tricky. But it’s definitely worth it. We had such a lovely and memorable weekend. The ticket line was short, everything was smooth, and we left impressed and happy. The highlight for me was definitely the view from the top — absolutely stunning, especially with the autumn colours. A place worth visiting for sure!

We visited Conwy Castle on a beautifully warm sunny September day whilst staying on holiday in one of the cottages right next to it! It got so warm I had to go back and get changed in to a dress from jeans before going in! We had been before years ago; it’s still one of the most beautiful castles you’ve ever seen! Definitely one of the best preserved after all these years too! 💛 The castle itself was stunning and so fun to look around! 🏰 You can go up in the towers and walk around the top! We don’t go all the way to the top in some as it was so high and we were a bit scared! The cottage we stayed in had some of the castle wall behind it but not the part you could walk along so that was a nice view too! There is even the stocks still there and a big chair to take photos in! The views of the sea are absolutely breathtaking! 🌊💙🩵 You can look over the suspension bridge and the town too! 🌁 It’s definitely worth a trip to if you’re in Conwy! You won’t be disappointed! 😆 The gift shop has a great selection too and price to get in isn’t too bad as there’s so much to look around at! It was very busy even on a September weekday!

Conwy Castle is amazing! The place is huge and the views from the towers are just stunning—you can see the whole town, the sea, and the hills all around. Walking along the walls feels like a little adventure, and it’s super fun to explore all the towers and stairways. Everything is really well looked after, and there are signs around that explain the history in a simple way. The town itself is also lovely—perfect for a wander and a bite to eat after the castle. The only downside that there is no free guidance booklet with history clues. Definitely one of nice spots I’ve visited in North Wales!

Google
An amazing and imposing castle with the walls surrounding the town. It’s free to go up and walk around sections of the wall (if you have a head for heights) and enjoy the views. Lovely visitor centre with great shop and free to use toilets (unlike the tourist information centre across the road!). Didn’t have time to go into castle but certainly will try to get back for a visit sometime.

Google
Fascinating castle and history, cafe and shop. Easy parking next to the castle. Some high towers with narrow stairway. Great views across the harbour and sea. Interesting place to visit. We enjoyed our visit.

Google
An absolute must-visit! Conwy Castle is breathtaking from the moment you see it. The views from the towers are stunning – you get a full panoramic of the town, the estuary, and even the mountains in the distance. It’s like stepping back in time. The architecture is incredibly well-preserved, and there’s plenty of space to explore without feeling rushed. The walk along the castle walls is a real highlight. It’s perfect for history lovers, families, or anyone who enjoys a bit of adventure with their sightseeing. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s lots of information available about the castle’s history. Well worth the entrance fee. Just make sure to wear comfy shoes – there are a lot of steps! Would definitely recommend it if you’re visiting North Wales. Plenty car parks (pay and display) near by

Google
Such an amazing castle! It's nicely preserved and it feels like it's still alive. The view around is incredible! We cay see all Conwy town, the medieval town walls around, three bridges, and low tide. It was so exciting to climb the highest towers. It was very stip but we were nicely reworded on the top with an amazing view.

Google
What a castle! Recommend getting a tour from the conwy visitor center in order to get some more history / information as I did. This castle was built for defense and you can tell. Ontop of bedrock, many different gates to enter, thick walls, cliffside and with water surrounding made it almost * impenetrable! Paid parking available nearby.

Yelp
I really enjoyed walking through the castle. They say it takes about 45 min to an hour but I could've spent 1.5 hrs there easily. There are 4 towers to explore. The view of the town and ocean from the castle are amazing. I highly recommend a visit!

Yelp
Made the trip down to see an authentic castle and this didn't disappoint. It's very easy to find, and there is a parking lot in the town right next to the castle. Parking costs £2.50 for 2 hours. It has the potential to get crowded on nice days or weekends so come early. Admission into the castle was £9.50 for adults. A little bit too much in my opinion. Cross the bridge and head up the ramp to the castle entrance. Immediately upon reaching the castle itself you are surrounded by beautiful views. On one side you have some hills with sheep, a river and a railway line, and on the other side you've got the town overlooking the river. It makes for great pictures. As for walking around the castle, you better have some appropriate shoes and be in 'ok' condition. Regardless of which tower or chamber you want to get to, you'll be walking up and down steps. Mostly narrow spiral stairways. It was be very challenging for older people or folks with disabilities. Due to its very nature, the castle is not wheelchair friendly. While the castle is beautifully preserved and quite large, it's very repetitive. Towers and chambers are virtually the same. There aren't many signs and even the map doesn't give any history into details or what went on in each room. It's literally just a bare castle. I suggest walking the very top of the tower for your best picture spot. Be careful though. He walls don't even come up to my hips and it is a straight drop down! I got quite nervous at one point because the wind sent me flying and I had nothing to hold on to. If you've made it this far, go ahead and pay admission. It's an experience and makes for some good pictures.

Yelp
Really disappointed in the whole experience. I had just come to the UK for a couple of days having toured Spain . I am a history fan and love to be fully educated wherever I am At Conwy there is no guided tour, no audio tour, and very little to read . Please if someone of importance reads this add an audio tour at least

Yelp
Important to note that this is a historic ruin of an old castle, not restored or anything, so it is an outdoors activity. We only had a short time to spend here, so I don't know if they offer tours, but a tour would have been great. I'd love to have known more about where I was standing and what was there before. But beautiful views. Amazing photos. It was a rainy day when we went, but not raining when we were there, and it just made for some of the coolest photos. Seriously, I wish I had dressed in something really fun because this place makes awesome photos. Would be a great place to shoot engagement photos or something. The stairways are really narrow and tight. Prepare yourself. I don't do heights so I couldn't get all the way up to the top. Too terrifying. The wind is really strong up even just on the second and third levels.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting this castle is totally worth it. The fact that it is a ruin adds to the mystique and authenticity of the experience. The view from tops of the towers is spectacular (at least on a dry day), and the concise but informative sign boards posted throughout are enough to help you make sense of what you're seeing. Walk the walls first, I'd say. It will give you a firmer understanding of what the castle protected.

Yelp
Conwy Castle is stunning...with the views from many different angles. Set on an inlet...it overlooks the waterfront...the village and the Conwy Suspension Bridge. This was our first stop in Wales and it was LOVE at first sight. The look out points from the towers were beautiful! A fun place for kids and adults to explore a little piece of history!

Yelp
Gorgeous castle - hugely popular with tourists and for good reason - it's got lots of towers to climb and views all over! One of King Edward's spree of castle building - you can learn more here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conwy_Castle Not exactly for those with fear of heights or mobility problems, but it's a lovely place to visit. If you get an "Adventure Pass" - make sure you visit nearby Plas Mawr as well. Definitely worth visiting!

Yelp
This is the first castle I've ever visited and I was thoroughly amazed by it. Just beautiful absolutely beautiful in my opinion. The whole experience was worth it. I advise everyone to visit this castle and it's charming town.

Yelp
For the student/senior rate of £4.30 you get to spend a full day exploring the ruins of the beautiful Conwy Castle. Little nooks and corners have hidden within them placards describing historic merit and small stalls with information on how the castle used to look, the way it was decorated, and how the people within its walls lived. Do yourself a favour ahead of time and play the tourist - read up a bit before you get in so you can enjoy it to the fullest. You'll be able to respect the history and the layout so much more when you do. I went here on a Monday morning because my dad was visiting me from the States, and it was spectacular being able to see it without the standard weekend rush. I loved taking photos of the absolutely empty castle and being able to enjoy quiet moments to relax and take in the view of Conwy underneath the turrets. It's wonderful how well it has been preserved that you're still able to climb along most of the ruins and take in views from all over. Conwy itself is a cute-as-a-button stop for the standard tourist, and for anyone hitting the town I'd strongly suggest walking along the walls, storming the castle, and then grabbing some food in the town (*cough*Edwards of Conwy*cough*...seriously, I still have a craving for their huntsman pies).

Yelp
"Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries!" Of COURSE you have to reenact this famous scene from Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail when traipsing around the abandoned castle in Wales! This is the ONLY CASTLE I've ever been to where you're able to explore like you're a kid on the playground! I especially liked climbing to the tops of the towers and taking photographs. The Castle is empty but it's still fun exploring the different chambers and climbing up the stairs to discover where it takes you. The view was absolutely gorgeous! After my travels around the world, Wales takes home the *prize* of being the most beautiful place I've ever visited! Peering over the walls you beheld so many daises that were thickly clumped together that it looked like someone has sprinkled confectioner's sugar ALL over the beautiful neon green grass. The sea glistened in lavender and cobalt blue. It was gloriously breathtaking! No trip in the castle is complete with playing in a little bit of mud! There is NO sensation like walking along the bogs in Wales. It's sticky, mucky, gross and oh, so grand! You can walk along the kelp but be prepared to hear the sound of popping bones under the wet slimy leaves. It's amazing and a guaranteed good laugh!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! This is THE best Castle I've so far been too. It is huge and I don't think we even got to see it all. Well worth the money. If you don't like heights it's ok as there is so much to look at at the bottom too although it is stunning when you get to the top. The kids loved it (10 & 7 yrs) and I would definately go again in a heartbeat! If you have your entry ticket to hand, you can get into Plas Mawr in the town for free too.
google avatar

Yelp
Spend the small amount to go inside, up, down and all around. Don't be rushed. Go slow, soak it in and be careful on all the steps. One wrong step could result in an emergency. Geocaching friendly! Would be nice to have a pre recorded head phone tour. Would be a great added revenue and offer more knowledge for guests. Wall after is a must. Wall is free, but don't miss the castle.

Yelp
I've seen quite a few castles in the UK but the Conwy Castle provides a feel that truly captures the English dominance in the 14th Century. The castle is in good shape and for 4 pounds you can tour within the main castle walls. The railing is non existence which makes this castle a bit crazy in going up and down the pillars and walls but the views are great. This castle is live history at its finest, definitely a must see in Northern Wales.

Yelp
Given that Conwy Castle is now more than 700 years old it's in a fairly decent state of repair. All the timber floors and roofs are long gone but the stone work has survived quite well. This means that much of the castle remains accessible so, for example, it's possible to climb to the top of most of the towers. Having said all that it isn't always easy to move around. The steps are mainly steep, narrow and windy and the towers are poorly lit so you'll need to be fairly fit and agile to reach the tops. As the floors are made of stone they can become slippy when it rains. There isn't much cover although some areas are indoors, including the chapel which has a display showing how castles evolved over time. If you can, try to visit on a dry and sunny day. If you do manage to get to the top of the towers then you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the town of Conwy as well as the surrounding areas, both up and down river. It's not too expensive to get in and worth a look although personally I wouldn't advise going if you've got very young children given the steep steps and high drops off the walls and towers. Health & safety laws clearly weren't what they are today 700 years ago!

Yelp
We drove four hours to see this castle and arrived before 4:30 (last entry) but the rustic bumpkin selling admission tickets said she'd already closed the door and refused to admit us. The staff members are lazy and stupid, so don't trust them to adhere to the rules on their own website.
google avatar

Lindsay C.

Yelp
The castle is impressive and imposing from the outside. Unfortunately, reduced opening hours in the winter (check the website before you go) coupled with accidents on the road on our way here from Wallasey meant we arrived just as the National Trust staff were preparing to close. Looked impressive enough from the outside for us to want to come back for a proper visit another time though.

Alexia L.

Yelp
Beautiful! This castle was absolutely breathtaking, shrouded in history, and easy to reach from most bus lines. You are free to access almost all parts of the castle in a completely self guided tour. The views from the top of the towers were stunning and I would recommend this to anyone looking for attractions like this!
google avatar

Yelp
Interesting and fun to visit. Lots of steps to climb so be ready for that but it's a small price to pay for the experience.
google avatar

Allen T.

Yelp
Definitely a place to visit when you're in the UK. It's got great views of the pier, town, and mountains. I had my favorite fish n chips close by to here. The steps are quite narrow in some of the towers so be careful when climbing them. But you are rewarded with a spectacular view when you get to the top!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great little castle in Wales, and its incredibly scenic in the area. It's a little bit of a trek from the train station, not too far though. And you can see it after you make the first turn from the station. If I remember correctly, you'll actually have to go past it to a little shop across the street for access. This little shop also has tons of historic info and knick knacks. As far as the set up inside, its not unlike other abandonded castles. There aren't many rooms, walls have fallen down, but most of the towers and walls are accessible and you can even climb to the top of the watch towers! It's pretty self guided and you'll find signs explaining most of what you're looking at, or what to look for out windows and such. It's still pretty decently preserved, but the stairs are little worn, so be careful on them. It's definitely one of the nicer castles I've seen in the UK

Yelp
Visited this castle last year while away with the other half, lovely town to visit with an impressive castle. The views were lovely until you get to the very tallest tower - I have never been so scared in my life, it was so high i felt sick! Much to my embarassment i basically pushed a small child out the way as i staggered down the steps. Other half still tells the story! If you are scared of heights beware!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh what views!!! a stunning building in a lovely town. At the risk of repeating what another reviewer has said I also was a bit shaky at the heights so if you aren't a fan don't go up the towers. I only managed one which was a bit pitiful as I'm only in my early 30's and healthy although the stairs were killing me. The most embarrasing part was the pensioners striding past me at a rate of knots! At the top of one tower there is a roped off huge drop in the middle of it. Keep a close watch on small children I had visions of stumbling down these holes. This is must visit if in the area I was lucky it was a glorious day.

Yelp
Such history and beauty in this wonderful example of the great castles of Great Britain.

Yelp
Conwy castle is stunning. As usual with all tourist attraction however it is overpriced to get in considering that it is not restored, but more of a ruin. Im sure you would find it interesting as various boards around the castle explain the history, however, if you are not interested in history then you probably would not want to spend long there. On a clear day the views from up in the castle are stunning and I was glad that I went. Must say that I have been to much more interesting and grand castles which I personally find more entertaining e.g. penrhyn castle.
google avatar

Carol M.

Yelp
Great castle. Well preserved and compact enough so it's a manageable place to wander around. Walk around the wall although I wouldn't do this with small children because the rails would not catch someone slipping through. Great views of the city and ocean.
google avatar

Yelp
King Edward ended up stranded in this castle when the river rose in flood . Built by master James this is not the usual concentric type but instead an impressive aglomeration of walls and towers built upon a massive hill of rock . Really think they should put the floors and roofs back on because the walls and towers are virtually intact .
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
A magnifcent site when you come up on the bridge this is a pretty intimadting castle. would not have liked to have been one of the people who lay siege to this place. This castle excudes strength and was built in medival times by king edward the first. Though it is a ru9n now there is plenty to see here. If you walk along the hallways from one tower to another you can see out into the inner courtyard and you get the feeling that you could be a serving girl brining food to the soilders. It is eery and dark in some of the rooms and you do think that a ghost of one of the soilders is going to pop out at you

Yelp
This is a good and informative centre that helps explain the town and its history well. Easy access, parking nearby. Usual gits and souvenirs to buy too.

Yelp
Conwy is truly a magnificent treat and a gem for North Wales. The town itself is lovely to walk around and take in the magnificent scenery and shops. The castle itself is a fantastic sight and a brilliant spectacle. Well worth going out of the way to visit. Nearby is Snowdonia with all the jaw dropping scenery. Also nearby is Rhyl and Chester.

Yelp
A proper castle. Lots of towers to climb up and explore and good views across the bay. Well worth a visit, even in the rain

Yelp
A great place for a day out. Conwy Castle is well preserved meaning you can access most parts of it which is unusual for castles in Wales. A fabulous town too.

Yelp
A really good castle for exploring. Pretty much every area is accessible including all the towers with great views from the top. Good value too. Family ticket just £13.90!
