"Well, there’s something to be said for a name that helpfully spells things out for you. We’d argue that nature should be first, in fact. It’s not that Parque Natural Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, where the hotel is located, is so essential: it’s not a fundamental destination on the must-see-before-you-die list. But it’s a gorgeous landscape within easy reach of a city that is on that list. And Cooking and Nature - Emotional Hotel, with its sleek concrete and glass exterior and its dozen individually decorated guest rooms, is an ideal place to hang your hat during a side adventure into this otherworldly stretch of limestone hills, shadowy grottoes and colossal underground caves." - Tablet Hotels

We sometimes get bored of large chain hotels so The Nest Hotel was a very refreshing change. This hotel has many quirks but the entire experience was quite lovely and enjoyable. While the hotel is not part of a large chain, it is part of Mr & Mrs Smith and can also be booked on Hyatt's platform. ||The hotel is a bit in the middle of nowhere and there are no alternatives nearby except other independent hotels. It's about one third of the way between Lisbon to Porto. The nearby location has many trails for hiking or biking.||We booked an "apartment" which had a fully stocked kitchen and a bird theme as per the name of the hotel and our room was entirely made of wood. I found the construction quality to be very good.||For breakfast it was unusual in the sense that they brought a basket to our room for a picnic rather than make guests go to a large central restaurant. The one downside was that the selection was rather limited without interesting dishes that stood out from the ordinary, unlike the rest of the hotel which is quite unique and imaginative.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel. It is lovely and very relaxing. The pool area is also very tranquil. The rooms in part of the hotel are movie themed and our room was the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory room. The room was very spacious and enjoyable to stay in. The problem with our room was that the bathroom is chocolate brown, has insufficient lighting and you simply can't see yourself in the bathroom mirror. The lighting either needs to be improved or the mirror changed. I also found it annoying that the room had no coffee or tea making facilities and the hotel charged for making your own coffee or tea in the common areas.

Well worth the 20 mins. ride off the Porto-Lisbon road. Hotel is in charming village of Alvados in a lovely location.|We had room no. 001 and it had a stunning design.|Don't miss the three indoor swimming pools - they were charming and intimate.||The breakfast was served in a lovely atmosphere. ||Note that at night the serpantine road to Alvados could be challenging for first time drivers in the area. We recommend to get there by daylight.

I did not know about this hotel previously, but it wasrecommended by Travelzoo and so I booked and I am so glad I did. From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out we had a wonderful experience. We were staying in the Nest section of the hotel. Our room was calming, relaxing and very comfortable. We had dinner on the first night and it was a really wonderful experience. We also booked a massage each which was excellent. Every morning our breakfast was brought to our room with a wonderful selection. |The hotel's design and ethos is perfect for the environment in which it is set. The staff are warm, welcoming and friendly and also available with advice or to help with any queries. I cannot praise this hotel enough - it was a great experience.

We absolutely loved our stay here. We had the Out of Africa room and the details were amazing to see, so beautiful! The pool is open until half of October and after that the spa will open so you can always use on of those. Breakfast was amazing! The staff is super friendly and helpful. It’s also possible to have cooking lessons but since the restaurant is closed on Sundays we ate elsewhere (great local pizzeria in Vieiro). When you are on a road trip this is such a nice stop to do nothing for a while!

This hotel was the whole reason we travelled to Alvados after our visit to Lisbon, and it did not disappoint. The hotel is immaculate and beautifully designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, and this extends to the comfortable and spacious room (we stayed in room 1).||Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner were delicious (focused on locally sourced ingredients) and the spa baths were a real treat to come back to after a day hiking in the hills.||The whole area is beautiful, there is so much to see and do. It was a perfect 3 night stay, and we would not hesitate to return.

Service and food are really nice. The rooms disappoint a bit. Although different and welcoming, the wooden floor creak a lot, and you can hear an be heard from the other rooms (talking, bathroom, etc). Open tub in the middle of the room is a nice touch but not very practical, as the mirror and sink are in the opposite side of the room. Ac didn’t properly work. Breakfast in the room seemed a nice things, but you have to stick to the same food and schedule, which is not great when you just wanna relax and wake up when you want… unfortunately not other option was available.. Great option, special with it location, but overall I believe price/quality ration is very high.
