The wait staff were super nice and understanding. The food was some down home country cooking. ( It's even in their name.) The place was very clean and spacious. The locals were very friendly talking to us and sharing some of the local history. Highly recommend.

Google
The service was slow, no refills offered, what they called hashbrowns no one could eat even with catch-up on them. I would not eat here again. Sorry, but it's how it was for the 4 of us.

We made reservations for 28 people. Since we had visited the restaurant in early May while in the area, we knew about the "private room". It was available and set-up for us when we arrived. The staff was friendly and efficient. Everyone seem to enjoy their meal. The only comment I heard from a few people was that since it was close to closing time, they were not offered the opportunity to order dessert. However, we had requested a dessert for someone who was celebrating a birthday and one of the servers, Sabrina, took excellent care of her by putting a candle on the dessert.

We went to this place while returning from West Virginia. It took some time to be seated and to take order and serve. Little laid back and perhaps we were in hurry to get back on the road.

Fast, friendly and efficient. No wait. Food was good. Plenty of free on site parking. Convenient to I 64. Convenient to gas stations. Service was great! Restrooms were clean.

I used to go here when it was Granny's and always liked the atmosphere and service. The renovated place looks great and is laid out very well and well kept. Our server was very friendly and checked on us the perfect amount. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I'm really glad this restaurant has survived the test of time and weather.

Google
This place is ALWAYS My family's saving grace!! The food is WONDERFUL! The service is Great! The prices are fantastic!! We try to go back at least every other Sunday. Its a family tradition at this point!! Better actually then going to Cracker Barrel in Beckley.

Google
The service was fast and friendly. The food was excellent. If you like country homestyle cooking this is a great place to stop in and eat.

Yelp
I stopped in around 6pm and it was a slow night... The waitress greeted me and seated me very quickly. She took my drink order while I viewed the menu. She was back and took my order. Looking around the restaurant was clean and inviting. The rest room was also clean and in good order. My apple pie a la mode arrived first (as requested) and it was delicious! Then my burger and homemade chips - both were aromatic and tasty I would definitely eat here again!!!

Yelp
We need more diners like this. Amazing comfort food. Great prices. Friendly homey atmosphere. Like Cracker Barrel but authentic. Visit the greenbrier but eat here.

Yelp
This West Virginia roadside diner serves throwback food and has a relaxed, homey atmosphere. It's spacious and everyone can see the kitchen. It's appropriately named. Breakfast is well done here, lots on the menu, offered all day. French toast and bacon is delicious. Biscuit and country ham sandwich is traditional, although the biscuit was a little overcooked for me. Coffee is replenished regularly. Service is friendly.

Yelp
10 out of 5 stars! Love Cook's! We (me and my dad) have pretty much became regulars, we come in at-least once a month (sometimes more). I usually order the same thing every time, Chicken Livers. Most of the time I'll get Pinto Beans and Fried Potatoes as my sides, but sometimes I'll change depending on how I'm feeling. Also usually get a trip to the salad bar, which is one of my favorite salad bars in the area, plenty of amazing options. The waitresses are extremely kind, and hospitable to us while we are there. Service can sometimes be a little slow when busier, but that is to be expected. The atmosphere is also very comfortable/cozy, definitely one of the more welcoming places in the area!

Sarah S.

Yelp
Food and service were great. They accommodated party of 20 for lunch on a weekday in a nice semi-private side room ( call ahead to arrange that). Good salad bar.

Jim B.

Yelp
Just don't get it. No clue how this place has the ratings it has. Maybe just different strokes... This is basically a truck stop like roadside dinner. None of the food was to our liking. Service was not good. There was no salad bar as advertised. In fact, the only offerings at 1:30 in the afternoon were breakfast and those items classified as sandwiches. My guess is if you like waffle house or some similar establishment you will like this place. You will be better off at the MacDonalds across the street.

Jerry S.

Yelp
We had a good overall experience here. It took longer than normal to take our order, but it came quicker than expected to our table. The waitress was totally knowledgeable of menu and even encouraged adjustments to personalize it. My wife ordered chicken livers with onions and enjoyed them. I had 2 boneless pork chops with Mac n cheese and side salad. For the salad I had access to the full salad bar - one bowl - which was amazing. Chick filet Mac n cheese is better, but not bad. If ever in town again, we would return.

Yelp
Stopped in here while traveling thru to Va Beach. Five meals ordered. Cozy atmosphere &the staff were very friendly & accommodating. Chicken fried steak- a bit small, but nice flavor on it & the white gravy. Loved the salad bar! Sugar cured ham- my son said it's the best he's ever had! Loved the salad bar! Chicken strips- Average all the way around. Fried chicken livers- looked more like beef liver, no real breading to speak of?? Mashed potatoes were great! MacNCheese & broccoli kids meal- very good. Worth stopping in again & will do so!!

Wayne J.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and it was so good we came back for lunch. They load you up on bacon with plate. Good thick and crispy bacon. Chicken livers for lunch were prepared perfectly and delicious. Only knock is they were short staffed. Only 2 waitresses and they also were seaters and cashiers.

Yelp
Stopped for a late lunch. Menu has a Very wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. I was torn between lunch item or supper entree.. I decided on a cheeseburger with all the fixins, along with french fries. The burger was very good, said 7oz on menu. I think it was much bigger, i could only eat half. The fries were real hand cut potato's and were very good. The wife had grilled cheese n fries and a side of fried apples. The fried apples were oh so good. My lil girl had the chicken tenders n fries and she loved them. The entrees that were coming out, like turkey n stuffing/dressing and mashed potatoes and Roast beef, beef liver, cod, and the list goes on. The service here is impeccable, even short staffed (they mentioned short staffed in kitchen) Amanda was our server and she was amazeballs! Thank You Cooks for an amazing experience!

Tim F.

Yelp
Not great. Salad bar was ok but food was bit less than basic. Will not be going back.

Larry M.

Yelp
Went I. For the daily special. Was not disappointed. Food came out hot, tasted good, and service was great. One note.... The salad bar was sitting in the sun, looking all wilty and watery. That was a pass for me. Otherwise, all good.

Yelp
Cute little roadside diner. No frills. Good food. Saw the review for the chicken livers so I had to stop. It was between that and the beef liver. Why is it these little off the wall places know how to cook these two dishes? Chicken livers were good / a little heavy on the breading but that's just me - and I'm doing keto but I still ordered them. LOL! Cooked perfectly! Broccoli good. Green beans - country seasoned and also delicious. I also got the soup and salad bar. Just opted for some veggies and cottage cheese. Everything looked clean and fresh and they had gloves for serving. Kathryn was my waitress- very attentive and friendly.checked the food and table appropriately and was very cordial throughout my visit. (I also added pictures of their lunch and dinner menus.) If I had any suggestion, it would be real butter - but that's just me. Glad I made the stop.

Yelp
Cook's country kitchen is one of a kind, local and great foods!. We went here for dinner, we forgot to take a pictures coz we're excited to eat. We ordered meatloaf w/2 sides, country fried steak and pecan pie for dessert. It was amazing! We went back for breakfast the next day and foods are great, affordable and right decent food serving. Staffs are great and friendly too, I really recommend this restaurant if you're into southern, local foods and good eats.

Miranda K.

Yelp
I decided to stop here to grab some food with my kids after driving for a few hours. And I am so happy we did! The food was delicious, well priced, and large portions. Their salad bar was fresh with lots of variety. The establishment was clean and had a welcoming ambiance. But the best part was the kind staff. They were quick to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed and very sweet to me and my kids.

Monica L.

Yelp
The food was delicious, very large portions. I did take out so I can't speak to service. I will ordering again soon.

Linda H.

Yelp
We wanted a local place, and we weren't disappointed. The food was as expected-definitely home cooked vibe! Staff were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Ordered hamburgers, they were so-so, frozen not fresh. The homemade chips were the highlight of the meal. I got ranch to dip them into. The service was hit and miss. Miss when we asked for the ticket twice, went to register to pay and the ticket wasn't in their system. Another 5 mins and our waitress came to put it in the system and ring me up. All in all we were there 1 1/2 hr and we are not slow eaters. To be fair there was a sign on the door saying they were short staffed.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch on our way to Ohio for Thanksgiving. We were seated quickly and the waitress took our drink order immediately. The place was very clean, it smelled good and the seating was spacious and comfortable. Our kids had chocolate chip pancakes (they serve breakfast all day), my husband had chili and I had a burger. Even though the place was fairly busy the food came quickly. Everything was very tasty, the servings were generous and the prices were right.

Yelp
Waitress Ann Rose started an argument with people in our party. She screamed, cussed & was in our faces.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Service was slow at best, our waitress disappeared. Fries looked very good, my kid ate all the grilled cheese, home made chips were decent, homemade chips were fine. Salad bar was good. Don't expect to get a drink refill or a cup of water. It was better than fast food but not worth what we paid.

Yelp
Uncle and I went in, when I was in town visiting. Went for brunch on a Monday, about 11 and the place was about half full (almost completely when we left). This is probably because it was a Monday, so not too big of a wait as others have talked about. I got a "build your own breakfast with 2 biscuits a d gravy, bacon, and hash browns. All were served quickly and were of excellent quality. Hash browns and bacon crisp, gravy and biscuits were hot and fresh. Orange juice was good and the servings sizes of all were excellent. Place was clean and prices were excellent. If you're in the area, I'd highly recommend coming in for a meal, the service, quality, cleanliness, and all else make it a great stop for breakfast food fare. Side note: place doesn't look like much and isn't extremely obvious, so if you aren't looking you might miss it.

Patrick V.

Yelp
We stopped for linch while we were traveling through West Virginia. Easy access on and off of Interstate 64. Very clean restaurant and the staff were wonderful. We had a club sandwich and a Philly cheese steak. Both were well prepared, the homemade potato chips and French fries were well done. Check it out, great place to stop.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Went here around 10:30/11:00 and decided to get breakfast. We got 2 breakfast specials. One was eggs and pancakes and one was country ham with biscuits and gravy. It was solid quality food, pretty much what you would expect from a local diner like restaurant. However, the amount of salt in some of it was hard to take (and I am a salt fan). This was especially true of the gravy. The servers were really nice and the atmosphere seemed local and friendly. Not much else in the area for breakfast so if you pick the right things on the menu I'm sure it would be a good time.

Yelp
As starving tourists we couldn't wait to get dinner. So we saw an ad for Cook's Country Kitchen. Since we travel with our dogs we can't go in to dine often. The menu had a wide variety to select from so we narrowed it down to Country fried steak or chicken livers and onions. We love both of these and since we don't prepare them often it was tough to decide. Chicken Livers won! My goodness they were perfection served with 2 sides for under $15. Highley recommend trying this out. Delicious home cooked food. We will stop again.

Karen S.

Yelp
Excellent food great service. The salad bar was loaded with lots of fresh veggies. The soup was homemade and hot.

Helen B.

Yelp
CLOSED on Monday night 6/2023-- might be shut down? Didn't stop to check for sure. No sign of life on a Monday. Yelp won't let me post review....
google avatar

Jim U.

Yelp
Good food at a fair price & good service. Breakfast served all day . They have plenty of parking so stop for a bite it is only 100 yards off the interstate.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Worth stopping for. Yelp has you turn left when coming off 64, but it is on the right between McD's and Wendy's. The BLT was perfect- just the right amount of everything with solid quality ingredients. Hand cut fries are the bomb. Everything that everyone at our table had was great. Didn't get a picture of the chicken and liver plate, because it was gone fast! Would definitely come back if in the area again.

Yelp
A fun little country place that's everything I expected - a pork chop special, coconut cream pie, a make your own salad bar, and wood paneling on the walls. It's pleasantly surprising that they have goat cheese on the menu on the fried green tomato sandwich. The food here is greasy and diner-like. The choices are to be expected, and breakfast is served all day. Good sweet tea. I was surprised at the 4.5 star rating, but it's understandable when compared to the limited options close by. This is a good, quick place to stop if you don't want chain food nearby, but if your up for a drive I suggest venturing into Lewisburg for better quality eats.

Yelp
When I walked in, there was maybe 10 people in the place. I stood at the front waiting to be seated as there was a sign asking you to do so. It wasn't until an older couple came in behind me that I was finally acknowledged. I was seated and asked for my drink order by the hostess. As I was looking at the menu, my waitress (Lakyn is the name I saw on the board at the hostess stand) come from behind me around the booth and barks at me "Do you know what you want?!" No greeting, introduction...nothing. I asked what the soup was on the salad bar..."Vegetable beef...so is that what you want?" I told her that I would like a minute to finish looking at the menu. She then proceeded to mill around behind the counter back by the kitchen window, never once even looking my way so I could get her attention to make my order, so I got up and left. Lakyn...I wish peace on your hateful heart.

Yelp
Nice surprise off of I-64. Amid a chain of fast food, this spot delivered a tasty lunch. We had the veggie plate, country ham and salad bar. The ham was the real thing-- deliciously salty. Veggies were good but fried green tomatoes not quite thick enough. Fries a bit underdone but 5 stars on the rest of the food. Plain atmosphere. Quick service.

Yelp
We stopped for breakfast traveling from Beckley WV to OBX. I was going to go with a 4 star review simply because the menu is typical "breakfast" fare, but the quality of food and awesome friendly service put it as a 5. That's when I decided to rethink my ratings... I expected a clean local restaurant with hot breakfast made to order, good coffee, and friendly service, which is exactly what this was. Based on that, it's a 5. The food was just what I was hoping for, protein based, buttery eggs, flaky biscuit, hot coffee, and delicious. Breakfast choices are standard for this area; omelettes, bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, etc. The restaurant was clean and service was friendly and prompt. My coffee was always full, including carrying one out the door. One was also offered to my husband. If you're looking for a good hearty breakfast, hot coffee, and friendly service along Rt. 64, this is your stop.

Yelp
Had no trouble seating our group of 14 very quickly. Soup and salad bar was plentiful and the food was served quickly. Drinks were all refilled promptly. Levi's Breakfast was a hit for several of our group. Yummy!
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
yummmy! I must say this place exceeded my standards. The reason we stopped on by is just because we saw so many cars outside in the parking lot which normally means it has to he good. We ended up getting the breakfast and wow the biscuits are simply amazing! So soft yet fluffy! I got the Cooks Breakfast which is basically the lumberjack at Dennys. I would highly recommend coming here if you want a quality yet cheap meal! So good!

Jackie F.

Yelp
Such wonderful home cooked food! The staff are so friendly and the service and food were wonderful! We will definitely be back and I highly recommend.
google avatar

Tonya T.

Yelp
What a great find and happy we ate breakfast here vs Greenbrier where we were staying. One of the cleanest road side restaurants we have ever dined in. Fast service. Prices were excellent, biscuits super-fluffy and light, bacon with just-right-crispness. My husband raved about how darn good the coffee was ( I am not a coffee drinker). If we had found this place a day earlier, we probably would have come here for dinner too! We would definitely come back when passing through this part of WV in future trips.
google avatar

Yelp
Outstanding. Easily the best cinnamon bun I've ever eaten (don't tell my gramma). And all the other breakfast items were delicious. They're cooks know what they are doing. Friendly staff & a very clean restaurant. If I lived in the area, I've be here all the time.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a toasted cheese with ham, came with fresh cut fries, very good. I don't think it was American cheese it had a lighter shade of perhaps a Velveeta, but it was excellent nonetheless. Bread toasted, just right, brown, but not burnt, very important! Ham was thick but not too thick, perfect thickness. Fries, very good, little thicker than shoestrings, must have been fresh cut. Sandwich and fries-$6.29 on June 19, 2018. Wholeheartedly recommend this joint, enjoy!

Yelp
Really good country cooking. Western omelets was spot on. Enough for two people. Very tasty. Chuck Pittman Goldsboro, NC

Yelp
Driving back to Ohio on the way from North Carolina, my boyfriend and I got off the exit expecting to go to Wendy's...but the number of cars in the parking lot made me curious about Cook's Country Kitchen! The service was really friendly. The hostess brewed a new pot of coffee for me just to make sure it was fresh. I thought that was really nice. I ordered breakfast (served all day!) with a couple of gigantic pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I was a happy camper. My boyfriend had a pulled pork sandwich and fries - both he said were really good. It was clean, the bathrooms were clean, the service was FAST and friendly. I'm glad we didn't just go to Wendy's!
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
Waitresses were great and friendly. The cooks were arguing the entire time and witnessed eating food while cooking. Our table waited an hour and a half for the food to arrive. Food was decent for breakfast food. Many customers left while waiting. IThey did take 25% off the bill for the inconvenience. Possibly just a busy time for them, but the atmosphere was unsettling.
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
This eatery is one that you hear some old country song or a Sally fields movie. I feel as if I could fall in a conflicted relationship with each of the waitresses. I would stop in every time I pass through on my bull riding tour and get my signature dish liver and onions (which I just got and it's the best I ever had no joke) and hope they still have some of their home made Bleu cheese dressing (which is also for real the best I've ever had) then ole girl asks me when I'm gonna settle down and quit riding these bulls cuz it's bad on the body even worse on the soul. I'd look up at her and say whenever you want darling. Good hearted woman plays and credits roll. That's what it's like eating here. Do it.
google avatar

Tanya K.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! The service was great. Clean, fast, and yummy! I ordered breakfast and everything was cooked to perfection. A friend ordered the reuben and I can say it was one of the best reubens I have ever tasted!

Emily M.

Yelp
Such a great little restaurant, an amazing place to stop for some homemade food off the highway. We were traveling through and wanted to visit a local business and enjoy some good lunch, and we were so pleased! The staff were exceptional and it was very obvious they care greatly about their food quality and the experiences of their guests. We will absolutely stop again on our next trip through the area! The decor is also very cute and everything was clean and safe! 10/10 - stop in and try it!

Yelp
Food burnt, order was wrong, had to beg for drinks, it used to be good years ago. Pass (lesson learned)

Harry S.

Yelp
I ordered the special for the day which was lasagna which I figured was already prepared and would be quick. After 40 minutes, i never got served so i asked for my ticket for tea and side salad which came out in just a few minutes. My waitress said i could just leave and don't come back. Needless to I won't.

Colleen S.

Yelp
A great breakfast spot on our way home from the Greenbrier! Excellent service and home style cooking!

Yelp
11/2019 Was certainly a nice place inside. The trains were awesome. The day we were there they had an issue with a cook not showing. The food was "ok" and the service was ok. We were in a bit of a rush and had a very lengthy delay. The regulars showed up and got in and out quickly.
