Voted Maui's best burger? I was excited to try! This review is pre-fire at their former location in Lahaina. They've since moved to Kukui Mall in Kihei.
LAHAINA ATMOSPHERE:
They were located on the third level of the Wharf Cinema Center. The open-air restaurant offered great views of either Front Street or the atrium of the mall. The main seating area was protected by a red canvas tent roof which made everything at the table look red (see my food pics and you'll get the idea.) It's so odd. They should've used white. It also trapped heat so you could constantly feel that on your head, though it wasn't unbearable. The chairs were the light brushed metal type and made lots of noise on the brick floor when people got up. There was huge bar and TV's abound, even under the red circus tent. A small gift shop off to the side also featured a tiny arcade. The place was definitely older but pretty well kept.
MENU:
Salads, sandwiches of all kinds, burgers, bar apps, and a handful of American entrees.
FOOD:
Jailhouse Rock Burger
I substituted the French roll for grilled sourdough. The 6.5 oz. patty was fresh (never frozen,) tender, juicy, and flavorful. Toppings were mayo, thousand island dressing, Jack cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickle chips, and grilled mushrooms and onions. The burger was difficult to handle because of the sourdough bread so next time I'll opt for a regular bun. It comes served in those tiny plastic trays adding to the difficulty of consuming. The portion size is very good.
Fries
The one size only basket of thicker cut shoestrings are sprinkled with seasoned salt, my fave. It's a huge portion that can feed 4 adults. The two of us had a lot leftover. Took it home and gonna pop them in the toaster oven.
SERVICE:
The male host was averagely friendly. Our female server was patient, professional, friendly and checked on us frequently despite handling a super busy restaurant with very large parties. The place is bigger than I expected but they're super busy so prepare for a wait. Luckily we missed the rush by 10 minutes.
OVERALL:
Is it Maui's best burger? I sort of agree. I've had great burgers at a few places but they're definitely in my top 5.
