I booked low budget female dorm. This did exactly what I needed. Sleep and a safe place. The restaurant was awesome! I would book again. Not sure I would during peak summer though due to lack of a/c. But I have really enjoyed my stay and the staff running everything. Thank you from new zealand

The Coolangatta Sands Hotel is a gem on the Gold Coast! The staff are lovely and helpful, the pricing is very good, especially for the area and how close you are to the beach. The beds are comfortable (but bring ear plugs to fall asleep with as its next to a main road and a loud bar on saturdays), the whole place is clean, and there is a beautiful verandha that gets the sun most of the day. I recommend it for budget travellers!

The bar: over $20 for 1 schooner & a can of ginger beer (not impressed) The food: my Senior’s calamari lunch was excellent! Partner’s veg nachos had ample cheese, the guacamole & sour cream was adequate, but lacking in quantity of diced tomatoes The twin room & facilities: It’s all run like a well organised YHA for budget conscious travellers. The shared balconies are expansive but there’s no clear delineation of outside furniture to sit on; i.e.. our next door neighbours had their items flung over everything as if to say ‘this is ours so don’t think about it’. So when we did go out on the balcony, we had to go through the kitchen (clean & tidy) to access the furniture out there. The bathrooms are very clean. Very good overall for a budget friendly place to stay in Coolangatta.

Just spenr 3 nights in a queen single room. Superb. Very comfortable bed, slept soundly, friendly staff, excellent restaurant meals and a fair price. Many thanks

Poor customer service from girl on Friday 4th July on desk from 6pm. A cold night and heater didn't work so informed her at front counter reception. She tried to turn on but said it doesn't work. There was a guy downstairs (worker) and he and her said in front of me that "yeah itll be one of the rooms which doesnt have AC that works, since the cyclone". I said I've paid for a room with heating and asked what will she do. She said "you booked a standard room so can't expect heating and it wouldve stated this on booking.com". I had never heard of a room costing $120/night with no ensuite, heating or fan and that i paid for heating when i booked. I said "can you give me a discount for no heating or move me to another room"? She said "we dont have that as an option sorry". She seemed irritated by me and I felt unheard and she made me feel like a difficult client who she was frustrated with. She said, "well you're welcome to stay someplace else and I can refund you the money". I felt literally like a pest she wanted gone. She was using the busy period (GC marathon) as a leverage to not providing proper and appropriate customer service. I had nowhere else to go as no other Accommodation available due to Marathon. I've only placed a few complaints for Accommodation and felt the need to inform the manager and other customers what they are not told about prior to booking. It was dishonest with advertising and I had booked weeks before. I've never paid this amount for no heating, fan or poor customer service in my life. It was a blessing in disguise that the heater wasn't working as there was black mold in vents. There was also no ventilation in women's bathroom so the moisture stays on ceiling and walls. Black mold visible on ceiling. This hotel is toxic to sleep in and unhygienic. I only expect nice customer service and to get what I paid for, nothing more, and I got neither. Very surprised by this service and behaviour from receptionist. It was advertised as a Hotel but the on room doors it said Hostel. Another false advertising. The reason I booked because I didn't want a hostel and would never pay over $60/night at a hostel because that's the hostel standard price.

Drove from Sydney pre booked when we arrived we were told that my 17 year old granddaughter could not stay,Yet there were kids in another room of the pub playing. So we were left to find another accommodation that night .

Disappointed the fridge wasn’t working in the kitchen, after I had bought food that needed refrigeration. The man I spoke to in the reception didn’t know it wasn’t working - even though it had been completely cleaned out and was empty… No apology just “ I can’t get anyone to fix it over Easter. Had to give it to the bistro staff to put it in their refrigerator, however I can’t access it when I need to! Light in the toilet was broken so I was in the dark using it during the night. I have stayed here many times, very cheap for the location .. so I guess one has to put up with glitches

Yelp
This was basically one of those pubs where the really bad service was at the door. Yep, that's right, this is another one of those pubs that has a rather hot headed bouncer, and even though I actually got inside, I was sort of shaking my head as because this is certainly not one of those places that you would need such a bouncer. Well, okay, maybe it does happen to be because it is Coolangatta, but honestly, this pub, yeah, it really isn't that great at all. Anyway, there were certainly much better pubs in the area, and much better, and friendlier, bouncers as well.

Yelp
Certainly an inn/hostel, rather than a hotel in a more formal sense, Coolangatta Sands isn't bad, but is a bit pricey for what you get. Rooms are a bed only, with only a few communal toilet/shower combos for the whole place. The crowd I ran into were mostly pleasant backpackers from around the world. My bed was clean, with a comfortable IKEA mattress, and the room was clean enough, about average by hostel standards, and a bit less good if judging as a Motel. The air conditioning was broken in my room, and the light dim, but everything else was in good condition, and the communal kitchen was kept clean. Downstairs is a lively bar and sports tab that seems like one of the choice spots in town for a Saturday night. In all, Sands was a decent spot to spend a night.

Yelp
Clean and well kept. The food has been excellent and the staff is courteous and attentive. The specials are a great value. I think they constantly change but I had a chicken parmy that was perfect. Their portions are large and the food comes out quick. If you like wedges I believe they have the best wedges in town, ask for extra chili sauce because that is fantastic as well.

Yelp
I dropped in here a number of times for a couple of drinks and a nice feed a few years ago. There was always some pretty good live music going in the evening. The place had a lot of energy.

Yelp
Used a buy one get one free voucher and tried the Chicken Parmy and the Fisherman's basket. (Normally $22 and $20 each) This place also has $10 meals. Drinks were a bit pricy, at $4 each for a Coke and Lemon, Lime and bitters. The meals were a really decent size and the calamari was the absolute best I have ever tasted. It was so soft and obviously fresh. We will be back!

Yelp
Great prices for a lovely selection of classics from the bistro. There are regular weekly specials as well.
