Coot's Bar & Grill

This is one of the few places on the Island to eat ocean front. Pets are allowed outside. The main hook is the bar for those interested. The food.... Meh! The server lady... more than excellent.

I liked Coots … a lot. Perfect beach dive. Beer was cold, sun was shining, food was over sauced (and that’s not a bad thing). Deck is splendid. Don’t expect to get a table on the deck in season. The waves crash right under you - feels like you are on a pier almost. Sit there and just watch the Pelicans go by. Back and forth. Another Bud. Back and forth. Crown on the rocks. Back and forth. I could keep going - you get the idea. If you are expecting fancy - it’s named Coots - drive into Charleston. Coots is so perfectly Edisto. Never change ya ole Coot 😘 Edit: Porch is dog friendly - inside may be too - not sure.

Terrible food. This people they don't grill fish. The fried fish is not cook. We pay 90 dl for but food . The view is great. And the porción of fish is way small . But , went you tray enjoin your vacation .

Absolutely love this place. There’s nothing better than sitting out on the pier with a drink, ocean views, and great people. The drinks are excellent and the fried food plates are exactly what you want at the beach. At night it gets even better with karaoke! This spot has become a must-visit for us every time we’re on Edisto. Great food, great drinks, great memories. Highly recommend.

This is a great bar. It had some great feel, classic dive bar with friendly staff. Fried food but all was so good. View is amazing being right over the water

Sitting at the pier on a sunny day was wonderful. Our waitress was fantastic, but the food was overpriced for what it was. We had two appetizers, a sandwich, a burger, a wrap and a tiny shrimp basket with a lot of fries with everything. Our total was $120.

Great atmosphere, service, and food! Views of beach all around. Had the shrimp po boy and my husband had buffalo chicken wrap, excellent! Both came with fries which were also very good. Waitress was Awesome! Was so happy to see they were open after our walk on the snow covered beach…yes snow. Edisto beach got like 5”of snow! Thanks Coot’s!

There aren't many options for restaurants that are open past 2:00 p.m. on Edisto Island, so we gave Coot's a try. The place is small and has a nice view of the ocean. I would recommend it for drinks, appetizers, and hanging out. The food is overpriced for the portion that you get. The founder and shrimp combo is 22.00, and it was not very big. It was a small fillet of the flounder, and the shrimp were really small. We did order a large meat lovers pizza to go, which was a good size to share with four other adults and had a good amount of toppings. I recommend McConkey's Jungle Shack, where the food is good and better portion.

Our family visited Edisto for the first time the other day, and we decided to grab dinner before heading back to Charleston. We stopped by Coot's because it looked like it had a great view. We got a pizza for the kids and fish and chips for me and my wife, and we were surprised how good the food was! The interior reminded me of what most Oregon Coast bars/restaurants looked like (where we come from), so that was cool.

I can't believe they turned this bar into a gift shop. When I lived and worked here, they had dart boards and pool tables and a lot more space. Now you have to walk through the entire stupid gift shop to get to the bar in the back. When I worked here, they wouldn't let people onto the back deck because it was "unstable." I can only hope they fixed that since then, because we were definitely allowed out. The view is great, and it's a classic local spot. The bartender was nice, but the cocktails were basic. Not exactly a cocktail, spot, though, so it's hard to complain.

Cool place that's right on the beach in Edisto. Nice view views of the ocean from the deck. The drinks that we had were the Edisto Breeze and Gentleman Smuggler. They were nice and strong for the most part. The bartender was a nice guy and got our drinks quickly. We didn't stick around for any of the food, but they have a very basic menu. Overall, I probably come back if I was in Edisto, but I'm not really a fan of the beach here so I probably won't be back.

This is just a beach bar and unless you're starving at Edisto Beach it should be avoided, there are other choices on the island with fresh food. We also experienced some racism, my husband is Native American, I am white, another couple at the next table was black and we were all told by different waitresses that we had to buy water at nor than $2.50 a bottle as the tap water was not drinkable due to it tasting like sea water. The white people sitting at other tables around us were drinking that tap water no problem. It just seemed a little off. I know when I was here in this part of the country in 1980 it was prejudiced against people of color then but still today??? It's 2025 people. Needless to say we will not return.

I ordered pizza, NEVER GOT IT! 3other tables received theirs & ordered after me, STAY AWAY.... RUN..... Not a reputable place to eat

The food wasn't up to par. Diet Pepsi tasted strange. Waitress was very pleasant! I don't recommend eating hear.

I would leave a zero star if I could!!!! We've been there before and had EXCELLENT service. Tonight, the female bartender was probably the rudest service I've ever received ANYWHERE!!!! We like their food, but I can assure you, if we go in there again and she's there, we will gladly take our business somewhere they appreciate it!!! If you're so miserable at work, find another job!!!

Our first time was great! Loved the vibe... We decided to go again yesterday shortly after noon and the waitress was horrible and snappy. We immediately felt as if she just wanted us to leave, she was yelling at the incoming customers y'all got 45 min wait.. yes she was the only official server but the kitchen help George was coming out to take orders and deliver drinks. After an hour of waiting and telling her we did understand but that she was being rude we walked. Maria the bartender was the most disrespectful thing ever and she cussed out our group when we asked when management would be available and proceeded to put her hands on one of our members to show her authority.... She picked the wrong one as she found out. Simply if we had been offered our non alcoholic drinks while the waitress caught up it would have been fine... 2 of the group have restaurant experience so we get it.

My first trip to Edisto Beach and I must say it was awesome. Free parking right next to the beach access and short walk to water. Kids got hungry so we left our chair and blanket went to coots and it was great. We had shrimp po boys chicken wraps boom boom shrimp and cheese sticks. Food was tight, would definitely recommend. Will be going back. Absolutely loved my experience.

The motto 'Eat More Coot' should be changed to 'Run from the Coot.' Upon arrival we were told to wait for a table, this was totally fine...we were not in a rush. When we were shown to our table a server looked at us and said I'm not taking them. We were assured that she wasn't taking any more tables but that server then took 3 more tables after we were seated. At the end of our dinner, another server came to our table and asked if we planned on staying because she wasn't going to ask our kids to leave their table so they could sit more guests. We were quite appalled as we were paying and the kids were boxing up their food. Our server; however, was kind and attentive. She had only been there a week so the others hadn't rubbed off on her yet and hopefully she doesn't change. The food...there is bar food and then there is the freezer section of Food Lion that is cooked for you to eat for $14-$22. I got chicken tenders and fries...literally could have warmed those same ones up in the microwave. The flounder and shrimp plate was overpriced for a mailed piece of flounder and a few pieces of fried shrimp. The wings were over cooked and dry. The TGIF mozzarella sticks in the freezer section are better than the ones you get here with a cold pack of maranta. If you have to go here...stick to the pizza or the hamburger. These were the only things that got an 'it was alright,' when asked how their food was. So run from the Coot but if you must drink so you can't taste your food or care what it tastes like.

Could not get served. Locals stared at me. Servers ignored me. I left. I did enjoy the view of the beach from my table. For that They get 1 star

This place is your typical 'not' hole-in-the-wall bar and grill. I wouldn't pass it up. Definitely a very small hometown vibe. The best thing about this place is there's a small little pier attached that you can enjoy the ocean.

Good was so so. Meat lovers pie was over the top with me. Not bad tasting. Jalapeño poppers were very good. However, the shrimp po boy not worth getting only had 7 shrimp it was $17.00. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

We were on the beach next to Coots yesterday and the bartenders were purposely feeding the seagulls and laughing watching the seagulls literally flock families and kids. I went inside to say something and they tried to say they feed the seagulls everyday. Being from charleston and from the beach its the most absurd thing i have ever heard especially at a restaurant they then proceeded to ask me to leave or they were calling the cops. After that they then went back out on the deck and again purposely feed them and stared at me laughing which again absurd. I thought it was tourists not the bartenders. The manager also on shift that day found me on fb and personally messaged me. Honestly disgusting behavior if you wanna feed the birds just do it when there aren't kids and families all under your pier and beach.

Absolutely one of the rudest experiences I have ever came across and I have worked in the customer service field for well over 20 years. I went online and researched their prices before ordering and their menu doesn't watch what's online. She said ("oh that's not our website. Where IS your website then? I googled and looked and saw nothing. Even now as I am writing this. I see nothing. Their Facebook lost and three other websites ALL showed the $15 - yet they charged me $19. I pointed that out and got belittled. Not only did they refuse to honor the difference, the manager belittled me because I was using discovery dollars that I was using to pay for. I wouldn't go so far as to write this review of the manager wasn't so rude and insulting. In the end $6 isn't a big deal. What IS a big deal is how. Place treats its customers - and this attitude was without a doubt insulting and disrespectful. A place like this likely gets a lot of their income from tourists and the like. I can tell you this - she has no respect whatsoever. Next time I will just get frozen pizza from food lion. It's better than the pizza served there anyway. I don't go on vacation to be insulted and I don't recommend this place to anybody - not for the food and especially not for the service.

Used to be good, now it's terrible. The servers don't know how to make a good drink, and the food is overpriced junk.

Went to Coots after many years.. We got a Meat Lovers pizza. It looks amazing can't wait to eat. Jalapeño poppers were great. However, the Shrimp PoBoy was very skimpy. It had 7 shrimp on it. We will definitely not recommend purchasing for the price of $17.00. Very disappointed!

It's ok. The service was with a smile. The food is nothing to rave about. Nice calm crowd. Very comfortable vibes. Amazing view of the ocean out of the back of the restaurant.

The mild wings were delicious. Pizza was only ok. Barely any sauce. Waitress was friendly.

This place doesn't get enough love. It's exactly what it is supposed to be to be, a dive bar. There are a lot of great things about it: - they are open later and more often then any other place, so you always have somewhere to go - their pizza is great! - their apps are good, definitely try the shrimp, we go back multiple times just for this! - they have bands!! - they have seating off the ocean!! They have fruity drinks if you are so inclined. Beer and liquor drinks are always good. Wine...meh. People don't come here for the wine, so drink at your own risk. Maybe ask if the bottle is newly opened. I had good luck my last trip. Drink and silverware seem clean-ish, I think they need a rinse agent in their dishwasher. They do tend to be busy, so don't be in a hurry. It's not called Edi-slow for a reason, and almost all of the restaurants are the same. Everyone is very nice. There is also a gift shop with lots of Edisto and Coots branded merch. We normally get matching shirts for our yearly family picture. Eat More Coot!

One star because they would not let our friend who was 28 (expired ID yes) but it was only 9:05 pm and under 21 is accepted until 10.He is legally mentally handicapped and was there every other night this week just enjoying time with friends. Even without drinking he wasn't allowed in the bar being 28 years old before the cut off at 10 pm. She had a major attitude. Very confrontational without being provoked and suggested us to leave. - Mason C. Motes

Hey, going into Coot's - we knew that this is a local dive bar. I love dive bars - actually seeking them out. Dive bars can have decent food. Coot's really does not. Below average at the best. On the other hand, dive bars can have a great vibe! Coot's has this and more. Super cool and friendly locals, the atmosphere is excellent and fun. I will say this for sure - when you are the only spot in town, you can get away with 6 out of 10 taps dry, awful pours in mixed drinks and terrible service.

Update from a couple of months ago! This time they get 4s I have to say we went on Labor Day and it was totally packed! Although the staff seamed to be on the low end, they were hustling. It was loud but very enjoyable and the view was fantastic. Our food was delicious and worth the wait. Especially the boom boom shrimp ! I could always get that as a meal!! One thing I must remind everyone is that if your paying with cash, there seems to always be a processing fee on your bill. This is for credit cards so deduct that fee and tell your server. I told my waiter before I got my bill that I was paying cash and it apparently is an automatic thing that prints. NOT!

Awesome!! Not many more places you can eat open air, above the ocean!! Super great spot and the food is simple, fresh and delicious.

Just got in to town late night and was looking for a quick bite and adult beverages. Coots located on front beach was our destination. Not the easiest place to get to, especially if you go the handicapped route. No signs and pretty dark. Finally found it and went straight to the bar. Greeted by a very kind gentleman. Unfortunately we arrived too late to try the bar food, can't comment on that. So we settled for drinks. Casual bar set up. Quite for a Saturday night. Plenty of tv's to watch sports. Maybe considered a retirement area so they roll up the streets super early. All in all a quiet night for a drink. We'll go back during the daylight and try some eats.

This was the absolute worst service I've ever received. The bartender was beyond rude to our group, charging drinks multiple times to different people at our table. Been coming to Edisto for over 25 years and have never experienced service like this. So disappointing.

It was a warm Friday night in May when myself and 6 guys walked into coots around midnight. The bar was not very packed. We walked up to the bar. While most of the group looked over the menu, myself and 1 friend ordered drinks. I ordered a Red Bull vodka and my friend ordered a vodka sour. What we received was a ginger beer with tequila and a tequila sunrise. The bartender asked how the drinks were so we told her that the drinks were not what we ordered. The bartender then got extremely upset, grabbed the 2 drinks off the bar and threw them into the trash. She then cursed us out and refused to serve us because our drink orders were just too hard. She was also clearly intoxicated. Another bartender came over to help us after the first one refused to. She also was clearly intoxicated and got every single drink ordered wrong. (Except one guy got a beer which she grabbed the wrong beer). She now is mad and yelling at us. Throwing drinks into the trash and telling us what terrible people we are. This bartender went on to complain about all these issues with money she is having. Even after the atrocious service I still tried to tip the lady 50% in cash. That only made her more mad and she refused to take my money. Finally i just left it on the bar. We finally got drinks (half of which were still wrong) but grabbed them and went to the porch looking at the beach. This place is run and managed by truely awful people. I would not recommend going here if they had the only beer within 10,000 miles. 1 star is 3 too many for this place.

Came here for a dinner on 5-11-24 right at 6:00pm. Attempted to get service and multiple waitresses walked past us. It said "seat yourselves" and these waitresses just kept walking past us without acknowledging our patronage for the past 35 minutes! After a while an intoxicated employee took our beverage order and left it in kahoots for over 20 minutes. Was a blow in the water. That's when we got up and left the establishment and none of the waitresses noticed our exit. However, customers watched us as walked out after an extended and ridiculous time wait and unattended service. We wanted to try something new and different while visiting out here in Edisto Beach. Unfortunately we will not be back to visit your establishment. It's unfortunate that was more convenient we ended up having to drive for dinner in West Ashley/Charleston instead accompanied with far superior service instead before coming back to Edisto for the night because the local place was unwelcoming.

Waited wayyyy to long to get waited on to get a table. Then waited long to order to eat lunch at 2:30. Everything fried, grilled was pathetic, waiters words. No draft list. We where told we wouldn't know any of them anyway. ??? They were overwhelmed.

The main reason we love Coots is location. It's on the beach and has a deck that extends into the water. My favorite thing is getting a beer and sitting on deck and watch waves come in and rush under deck-- so relaxing. ---Things we like-- besides sitting on deck and watching ocean, decent beer selection, staff has always been kind and respectful ---Negative stuff-- well most time bathrooms not clean ---extra information--it can get very busy on weekends or holidays so it may take a little longer to get your food or beer but the staff stays positive-a little patience for the staff at this time. -- food and drink: it's a slightly upgraded bar food. It's pretty good- mostly fried fish, shrimp, chicken strips, salads with the above on it, hamburger, hotdogs, appetizers--like fried pickles, tater tots, crab bites, pizza they make it at Pelican's Pizza restaurant and bring it over. They have draft beer around 12 chocan and bottle beer, mixed drinks. --Location and parking: Coots sits on curve across from gas station and Food Lion--right on beach. There is a small dirt/sand parking lot to left of restaurant and a few spaces in front - it's limited and fills up fast during busy times. There is a parking lot beside Food Lion- not the FoodLion parking lot(might get towed) but beside - behind and some road side parking. --- when you finish your beer and food go for a walk along the beach, watch the dolphins play in the water, shell hunt, listen to waves crashing into shore -walk off the food and drink. We will be back Ah-one last thing --be aware of birds diving for food. They can grab a fries from you plate.

Get to sit outside on a pier! If you're eating at the beach, then go for a pier overlooking the ocean. Birds behaved themselves so Coots keeps it cleaned up so you don't have to fight them off. Got the buffalo chicken wrap and onion rings, delicious. Others had the cheese pizza and chicken fingers. All of us enjoyed the meal topped off with some beers. Night life offers live band too

Good place just for drinks. Don't expect to get quality food here. Everything is made from frozen.

Fries were so delicious!!! The view over the water is so pretty and relaxing! Our waitress was really enthusiastic and nice! Will be returning!

Coot's is a great place! The food, drinks, and atmosphere! Love sitting out on the pier and listening to music and the waves!

Not sure why this place has only 2.5 stars. I would give it a solid 3.5 but a rounding up due to its current rating. It's a solid beach dive bar/restaurant right on the beach. They have a wide selection of beers and cocktails, some tasty bar food and attentive servers when we went. The pizza was just alright, but the sandwiches and appetizers were all good and reasonably priced. We ate outside on the deck and watched beach goers and saw some dolphins. We even went back the next day because we enjoyed the chill atmosphere and food/drinks.

Pretty standard for a beachside bar, generally okay all around. Drinks were tasty, and the food was fine. But the food prices were insane - I understand its summertime in a tourist area, but over $16 for a sandwich (nothing special, standard dive bar fare) is pretty crazy. Additionally, they charge for water (bottled water), I asked for a glass of tap water and the waitress didn't say anything but just never brought it.

Loved our experience here! Wait staff was attentive & on it! We sat outside & didn't have any problems getting drinks.

Great beach bar! The service is top notch. They may be short staffed, but they are friendly and definitely hustling! Love the outdoor seating facing the ocean waves. Having a cocktail and some apps on the deck was so wonderfully relaxing. Indoor seating is all high top tables and bar seating. It's a small dining area but you can take your beverages and meals outside on the deck. Tables there are not covered but the view is amazing. Food was delicious and arrived very fast. Both were piping hot and we let it sit a few minutes before trying to eat it. The wait was agonizing- haha. The boom boom shrimp was flavorful but not too spicy. Fried pickles were thinly sliced pickle chips and very crunchy. Loved those.

Coots has a great view of the ocean and has a very casual atmosphere, but it is more bar than grill and what some would consider a dive. I had the fish sandwich, and my wife had the burger. Both were good and reasonably priced. The service is very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed are visit and will be back when in the area, but the ocean view is what will really bring us back.

I was expecting a little more in terms of food it was kinda meh. Lots of sauce in the Buffalo wrap but the service was good. The man who sat us also ran our food and checked in as well so I appreciate his hustle in playing multiple roles. There was live music as well which I enjoyed and outside seating overlooking the beach too. Inside is your classic beach bar, lots of wood and tvs playing sports games.

Wish I could do 1 star. They charge for water! $16 dollar for a burger or chicken fingers. No childrens menu. Don't do it. Service was horrible as well

Is there a better place to sit and have a drink on the South Carolina Coast? You might have to look hard to find it if it exists! We had a great time watching the NFL games this Sunday and watching the sun dance across the surface of the ocean. If you look closely you will even see the dolphins playing. (Unfortunately...not the Miami Dolphins as we never get to play this time of year!) They have a full bar, and serve basic bar fare if you are hungry. The Boom Boom shrimp (think bang bang shrimp from bonefish grill) are pretty good. The fried flounder sandwich is not a bad option either. Goes great with the battered French fries. Don't go here expecting Gourmet, its not that kind of place, but the food is good. The also have a whole pizza list that isn't too bad either. It is the perfect "soak-it-up" bar food. Plus I haven't ever really met a stranger there, and I love to talk so that is a BIG plus. Do yourself a favor and take the easy drive down to Edisto Beach and have a few drinks.

Bar / Restaurant right on the beach. Nice outside area to sit, watch the beach eat and drink. Inside has lots of high top tables and a long bar area. Plenty of TV's to watch ball games. Live music on certain nights. Food here is basic bar food. Good price for portion sizes. I ate some fried pickles last time I was there and they were really good. Battered just the right amount. Burgers are good too.

I love the gift shop! Huge selection of t shirts and cute beach items. My hubby offered to buy me lunch @ Coots next door. The lone bartender was awesome! He was friendly, seated us and served our food in a snap. The rest rooms were super clean too. The views were beautiful! I ordered fried pickles, crab bites and shrimp po boy with a couple ice teas. The food was crispy lightly fried and not greasy! Def. Will return & recommend
