I really cannot express how great our stay was! We loved our room and the incredible view from our windows. We loved the pool and the incredible view from it. In the middle of the rain forest, this resort is so remote that even getting there is an adventure, but it is well worth it. The staff are kind and were very forgiving of my incredibly limited and bad Spanish. They know you, call you by name, and remember your preferences. They provide you with the things you didn't know you needed, like a dry bag. When we weren't able to attend a tour we booked, they scheduled a last minute massage to replace it. To a person, everyone we met went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. Things that anyone considering going here should note:
1. They aren't joking about the water landing. You are going to wade through water to get to the shore. They'll make sure your luggage is safe and dry, and I recommend taking your shoes off and just walking in on the sandy beach, but if you're short, your shorts are going to get wet. Every time.
2. There really aren't any mosquitos or other biting bugs. The ecosystem is balanced, something that is so rare it caught me by surprise, and the abundance of reptiles, spiders, and other things that eat mosquitos make them almost non-existent.
3. You're in the rainforest- there is wildlife. There are house geckos in the room that will chirp at you when you turn on the lights in the morning, there are little hermit crabs on the walkways after dark, and there are spiders on the plants. There are also incredible birds - two toucans sat outside our room every day, and macaws flew over every day. We saw hummingbirds every day. We saw white faced Capuchin and howler monkeys on property, and there are stray dogs that the staff takes care of. It's incredible and mostly harmless, but know they are there if you're not used to them.
4. The septic system is delicate and does not accept toilet paper. You put it in a basket beside the toilet. It never smelled, and it is not nearly as gross as people who have never done it might think it is, but if that's a deal breaker for you, you should know it going in.
5. Spend time talking with the staff. Their stories are amazing, and they bring Costa Rica to life in a way that is hard to grasp in any other way.
We rarely go to the same place twice, and we have already reached out to book another visit. This was a truly magical experience. A special thank you to Brayan, Estaban, Lisbeth, Greivin, Daniel, and Albert for taking such good care of us. We appreciated it!
