An eccentric restaurant in the NDSM area. A converted-from-industrial, very-high-ceiling, unusual yet cozy kind of setting. You can only order the set menu.
The starter with seabass and charcoal was too charcoal-y for me (I usually like a charcoal flavor). I tried a bite from my partner’s, and theirs did not have the flavour nearly as intensely. I wonder if this was a mistake by the kitchen. Mine really tasted like charcoal and nothing else.
I opted for the extra course, the langoustine. I thought this was perhaps the weakest dish. The combination of langoustines with plums was not working for me at all. I wish I hadn’t gotten this dish.
The celeriac and hay dish was a welcome change. It was very tasty, in big part aided by the perfect beurre blanc that accompanied it. I was quite impressed by such a delicious concoction using only celeriac. This one was quite special.
We received a palette cleanser after this dish. It was a savoury shot of sorts. Don’t quite remember what was in this, but I really loved it.
Next, the wild duck — I thought the filet was delicious. It was exactly what you’d expect from a well-prepared duck dish. However, I did not enjoy the part on the skewers as much.
Finally, the dessert that’s described as “grapes - pinecone - meringue”. I have no idea what’s in this and how they pulled it off. They bring this to you in a deep bowl, served in a deconstructed manner (ingredients are separated). I mixed all of them up. Somehow, the end product tasted absolutely delicious. It tasted like a cold porridge exploding with exotic flavours. Loved it.
The service was passable. I enjoyed receiving descriptions of each dish. They were sometimes delivered by the waiters and other times by the chefs. The waiters struggled to find the right words (in English) to provide the descriptions sometimes, which is an area of improvement, in my opinion.
Overall, if you’re looking for a creative and inspired menu, flavours and combinations that you won’t encounter anywhere else, and dining in a very cool setting, then I would recommend this restaurant. It’s not so much where you go for a gluttonous meal but more for a culinary experience. Not every dish will land perfectly, but if you’re someone who appreciates inventive and novel cooking, you should definitely try it.
