***10//6/18 UPDATE: Please, carefully read the response to my review by Chris P. of Copain Wines, a person I never met or saw whilst there. Do and you will see the very arrogance I speak of.
Allow me to respond Chris. As you were neither present at our table nor met my party or those with us, do your best NOT to speak to me as if you know the facts of what occurred. I shall do my best to educate you as to same.
1. I notice you don't specifically address the fact your employee, in front of the entire table, told me there was no such wine and that he's been there for so many years he'd know etc. Now, I don't know how you were raised or from what school of business you came but, that's not only arrogant, it's unprofessional. And the sad fact is, he was WRONG!! The smug, condescending nature of his delivery was the true jewel of the afternoon, let me tell you. Furthermore, upon his return to the table after discovering his ignorance, he didn't even bother to apologize. Forgive me for thinking this was a one off and not possibly a behavior Copain would support or encourage because, after encountering your response I can see it is indeed endemic and obviously comes from the top.
2. As to your ill-informed remark pertaining to my credit card. The price was never quoted to me and if you insist on impugning my character or questioning my integrity further, I can have the guests that accompanied us leave a review as well. Perhaps that would convince you. In the midst of a conversation with the other patrons, I gave the gentleman my CC in order to pay for the tasting, that is all. It wasn't until later Haley explained there was no charge due to our participation/ownership in the industry. As she was the one who made the reservation, I wasn't aware of that small detail. I'll say, we have all gotten a clearer picture here, haven't we. You assume to know what you are talking about and yet you're dead wrong. I wonder where we've seen this before?! To my earlier reference of how one is raised. I was brought up not to embarrass people but rather, to take them aside and discuss whatever issue we are having with them, personally. That is called class; something your establishment could use a little more of. This is precisely what I had intended to do with our friend however, as I mentioned previously, he simply went outside and sat down with other guests at the furthermost table on the patio. I can provide more detail if you'd like. At this point I simply wanted to collect my wine and depart for our next reservation however, as I went to pick up the box it started to come undone at the bottom which is when I inquired about the wooden box in front of me. Of course, rather than step in, do the right and render assistance, your folks attempted to take advantage of an already bad situation offering to charge me $500 for a GD box. Though the graciousness and respect portion has apparently waned, the greed and arrogance part of the training is paying dividends.
Tell me, do you always subtly infer to those that take issue with their treatment there, that it is contrived? Do you believe I just woke up yesterday and decided to conjure up a story, that it didn't happen? Or perhaps I just didn't like the glasses he wore and wanted to harm his career as a result. Speaking of, you may want to tell our friend not to share the details of how he came to own the aforementioned glasses. Adding theft to the other traits I've highlighted here, may not improve your optics. Forgive me, he said "a guest left them and didn't call to claim them" so, there you have it. It's not technically theft right Chris, just as he wasn't technically a rude, classless clown either. ****As an American Express Black Centurion card member, I will be contacting the concierge and explaining what happened here. They will then add Copain to a list and will warn guests accordingly.
I'll anxiously await your next gem. All others, see original review below.
