Yelp
The perfect place to spend a cold winter's day, complete with fireplace and all the comfort food staples you can think of.
Also, right off the top I have to shout out the fiercest, sassiest greeter/bartender I've encountered in a long time. From the moment we walked in, my party of three were obsessed with his energy and response to everything. Basically the Jonathan Van Ness of the Caledon region.
Moving on...the food: we all got soup to start - two French onion, and one soup of the day (lentil and grain) - and the following mains: spinach and artichoke dip, black bean and chickpea burger, and steak and mushroom pie. Everything was delicious.
I like a French onion soup with more broth cheese and croutons than wads and wads of onion, and that's what this one is, so I was very jealous I hadn't ordered a whole bowl for myself. I ordered the lentil soup, which was also very tasty though. It was a little on the light side so I'd recommend ordering something more hearty as a main if you're pretty hungry.
I did indeed get a more hearty main. My spinach and artichoke dip was ooey gooey cheesy and I could not finish it all. I would have liked more spinach relative to cheese, if only to justify the fact that I had an appetizer cheese dip as a main, but it was really good so I'm already over it.
My dining companions were both also very pleased with their mains. The steak pie is apparently one of the most popular items here, and judging my the lack of time it spent being devoured, I can see why. Its worth noting that the chickpea burger was open face on a crostini as opposed to a bun. It definitely elevated the meal and made it a lighter option.
Next time I'm in the area I'd be down to come here again.
