On the Grid : Corby's

"Originally named the Cap-n-Cork Lounge, the Corby’s of today came into existence due to its role in the Notre Dame-based movie Rudy. The iconic neon sign, murals, and placards that decorate the space remain from the movie’s set decorations. On any given night of the week, you can expect to find a collection of students and after-work hangouts shooting pool, drinking beer, and talking about local politics. Get the pizza." - West.SB

Joe and his crew always provide a great atmosphere and experience. Drinks are very reasonable and large selection available. Pizza is very good. The remodel looks amazing, can't wait to see it finished. Thanks Corby's!!

Google
The Iconic Corby's Irish Pub, straight from the greatest football movie EVER, Rudy! A great bar with some good drink, tasty food and lots of Irish energy! Easily spotted from the road, parking can be tricky at times, but don't get discouraged, something will open up! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Notre Dame University or in the South Bend area, not too far from the toll road and other highways

No Coast Blake

Google
by all means, frequent this establishment if you like crappy drinks in tiny plastic cups and at least a couple of 50 something year old bar tenders who seemingly like to pray on young women. It’s just gross to me. The bar itself is cool. Management or ownership needs to change. That is all

Adaimeé Román

Google
It’s probably one of my favorite bars, they have good music, good drinks and I always have fun… my husband is more like a beer person, but I love cocktails, one of this is enough for the night… maybe

Joe Rasbaugh

Google
The drinks were priced normally. Great that there was a pizza shop inside! Has a small dancefloor in the corner. The clientele was a bit aggressive though. Had to deal with multiple people coming on a little too strong with me and some of my friends throughout the night.

Rich Talley

Google
Great vibe, pool tables are excellent and darts as well.

Anne Michaels

Google
I am very disappointed they don't have angry Orchard anymore, why can't they have it in bottle's?? Was looking foward to going after the re-model but not if they don't hsve my drink. Both kids live in South Bend!

Google
Great Notre Dame bar! Stand where Rudy stood (for the movie) and enjoy a good beer and great staff!

Yelp
Love Corbys! Their pizza is always a hit no matter the time of day, or night! Atmosphere is always great, the bartenders are always so nice and funny, and I cannot wait to see their new addition!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun place nice staff , reasonable priced food and beverage. Close to downtown not Notre Dame
google avatar

Yelp
No-frills bar experience closely tied to the Rudy film. I had a Guinness here and it was great. The bartender was so nice, knowledgeable, and attentive. Plenty of street parking here during the summer when the ND school year isn't in full swing!
google avatar

Yelp
Obviously I stopped by because of the Rudy movie history, but I truly do enjoy a good Irish pub and Corby's really misses the mark. First of all, be aware that there is quite a bit of street construction going on in front of the place which makes it really difficult to get to. Once inside, the music and the ambiance fails to match what one is expecting from a pub atmosphere. The "bouncers" at the door were a little snooty, this is, after all, a corner tavern and not a manhattan hot spot. The bartenders, however, were very personable and the 16 beer selection that they have on tap is impressive. But once was enough.

Manny H.

Yelp
Nothing Irish about this bar. The beer is warm, the toilets don't flush and the bouncers smell like low tide. Avoid it like the plague

Braden B.

Yelp
Absolute worst humans working here. If you're looking for some fun on the weekends and want to grab drinks please go anywhere else in town! The doorman are judgy and try and abuse their powers. They have no problems letting minors in but are concerned with grown men's jeans... The food sucks too. Just go to brothers or finns. Trust the local.

Grace E.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar of all time. LOVE the staff and vibe! The pizza is also phenomenal

Korey F.

Yelp
Pool, darts, punching machine, basketball, and golden tee available to play. Also, they have corn hole on the back patio. Good prices and service.

Yelp
I had the most terrible experience at this bar, a group of friends and I wanted to just have a good night, and enjoy a drink or two. We all respected the mask rule and were very very respectful of everyone there. We ended up just chilling outback, when all of a sudden one of the bouncers came back. ( I figured he was just checking in us, and making sure we were all good) then all of a sudden he "wanted to ask me a question" and pointed forwards an area that nobody else was at. Just me, no body else at the table. Feeling very uncomfortable ( being a female) I said he could just ask me while I was sitting at the table. He refused and kept asking. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. One of my guy friends asked him what his problem was and he started to get really defensive, while just really trying to protect me from this weirdo jerk. And of course he kicked us out, just because he was defending me. I WILL NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS BAR. 0/10

Yelp
Went tonight against better judgement. Corbys has never been great....tonight was tolerable. For some odd reason this place stays fully Domerized even after Eddy street was built, and the East race revitalized w new hospitality businesses. Corbys has a great location etc. It just isnt for people over 30.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
I'm the first to admit that I was skeptical when I heard that Corby's was adding a pizza kitchen, but the added bonus of going smoke-free was an incentive to check it out. A group of us were there for the smoke-free kick off and decided to check out the food as well. The menu is small to start and features homemade pizza and a couple of sandwiches, including a meatball sub. We ordered a large pizza, which was huge, with sausage and black olives. The crust was thin and perfectly crisp, topped with homemade sauce and an impressive homemade sausage that had a nice little kick. Another in the group ordered the meatball sub, which was huge! Homemade meatballs topped with the homemade sauce and cheese then backed in the pizza oven. Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Stopped in for drinks and to play darts and pool. The place is large and was completely empty on a Monday. The one bartender was friendly and took care of us. The pizza smelled great and look tasty but we ate before we came over. We will definitely be back to try some pizza on our next visit to the area. Pretty interesting that Rudy was filmed here as well.

Yelp
It's cool pretty much just a bar around the college area of Notre Dame. Had fun, but initially drinks were crazy expensive like 7 bucks for a beer, I guess it became happy hour later or they figured we were locals because we started buying pitchers for about 9 Bucks after that first round Got some cheese sticks they were okay, super heavy garlic. Famous because Samwise gamgee came here and filmed a movie about the Irish. Cool to go and say I've been there once. Next time I'll go somewhere else.

Julie L.

Yelp
On the rare occasions we would decide to go to a bar, we open a tab, but pay cash tip. Corbys decided to add tip onto the bill after we left, essentially getting two tips. Will never be back...
google avatar

Caitlin W.

Yelp
Typical college bar with a little history. This was Rudy's bar from the movie. Came in after the ND VT football game for some dinner and a ton of drinks. Ordered a few pizzas and sides. It's tough for a NJ girl to judge pizza so I'll leave that out. The bartenders were nice and kept us hydrated. Is a great spot for a group of people with tons of seating.

Yelp
I am not a Notre Dame student, but from the few times be visited I can tell this bar is a popular and fun place to spend a Friday night! Although the line was long and the bar is extremely crowded, the back patio is an awesome place to hang out. Remember to bring some cash, there is also a small bar out back with domestic beers that is easy to access but it's cash only! Definitely the way to if you come prepared. The music is fun and I've heard the pizza is good, although I've never had it myself. Would definitely recommend making it down to Corby's at some point if you're in South Bend for a game!!!

Norberto G.

Yelp
Corby's Pub use to be a very awesome bar. Recently I went to the bar with my sister, my fiancé and her friends. I was wearing a gold chain, black jeans that were not sagging and a t-shirt. Which was a very similar dress code to what every one that was already in the bar was wearing. The best part is we got forcefully pushed out the bar which is fine and we were calm. however, the bouncers shoved, swung and hit my sister on her shoulder very hard, she bruised. A lot of people waiting in line saw what happen and were very upset making things escalate. Again my sister and I told everyone we weren't with to step outside so we could talk to the bouncers. The bouncers were still very abusive threatening to pepper spray us for no reason other than them wanting to use excessive force. We were fine and even though that crowd started shouting racial slurs along with the bouncer following we still remained calm but the bouncer continued to use excessive force. I understand they are doing their job but it's ridiculous to see a guy three times the size of a woman push, swing and punch someone. There are many reviews with similar situations occurring at this bar. I do NOT understand how the City of South Bend is not aware of the discrimination they have against women and use of excessive force they use at this bar. RIDICULOUS!

Yelp
Great local drinking hole in South Bend with clearly a Notre Dame theme. Good for sports watching and drinking, but not too loud to talk. The crowd is pretty young but that's part of the charm. There are games in the back and crowd gathers there. Definately a lot of college aged patrons. Very friendly and the music is a mix mix of classics and modern stuff. The picture of Pope Francis is a nice touch. I felt at home right away. I liked it a lot. Hang with the locals and drink on the cheap. Enjoy this great old school establishment.

Yelp
Pretender for an Irish Pub and bartender must have forgotten that he works for tips! I asked if they made authentic Irish Coffee and he said no, because we dont have coffee. I joked about how does an Irish Pub not serve Irish coffee. His response was "you are welcome to open one." The place was very run down and looks like a college bar and most of televisions are mediocre. Bathrooms were nasty! We did not eat here, so I can't speak to the food. You want an authentic Irish Pub, go to Fiddler's Hearth on Main St.!(way better service at Fiddler's Hearth too)

Laney A.

Yelp
I love Corbys! Nothing like going to grab a pint after a victory win from the Irish. Great people and vibes too.

Kali E.

Yelp
They didn't let me 21 year old friends in. Bouncers were extremely rude and on a power high. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
Corbys smells like doo doo....literally. Bathrooms are out of order and disgusting porta potties are in place. The whole patio smells like someone pooped right in front of your face. Disgusting.
google avatar

Yolanda B.

Yelp
Corby's is one of my favorite bar in the area!! Don't expect anything fancy but they do have pool tables and games in the back (cornhole, beerpong, etc). They also have the best pizza ever! The kitchen is open til pretty late too! There are usually no cover charge except for football weekends.
google avatar

M. A.

Yelp
On Saturday, January 20, my friend was physically picked up and kicked out by the bartender for "grinding on a guy." If you're looking for a place where bartenders make judgment calls about the appropriateness of your dancing and then physically remove you when it's not to their liking, this is the place for you.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
$3 beers? Is this heaven? No, this is South Bend. Corbys caters to th college crowd most nights, but when I'm out with the boys on a football weekend we always make a trip here. They have a pizza window if you need to soak up a few drinks before heading home and the prices are great when you're used to paying Chicago prices. Go Irish and keep it classy Corbys
google avatar

Teagan D.

Yelp
Favorite bar in south bend. You can get your fix of beer and a full 'za in one place, and enjoy it all outside on their patio. Love this joint. Go Irish

Jjaks K.

Yelp
They served my friend $6 doubles but then charged me $8 for a double? Took me over 45 minutes to get the drinks. 0/10 do not recommend go to any other bar in south bend for a way better less crowded experience.
google avatar

Dmytro A.

Yelp
Corby's is a mixed bag, and for its unreliability, I can only give two stars. Also, I had a jacket stolen there. And more than one guy has looked at my, um, you know, while I was peeing. Yes, they have several pool tables, and a patio that they try to call a "beer garden". But how much pool can you play when it's crowded, and how much of the year is warm enough that I WANT to be outside, at night, drinking cold beer? Also, on certain nights they charge cover. On occasion, they have live music, but that's pretty sporadic. The best part of Corby's is leaving. Not just to get out of that unfortunate hellhole of "we wish we could back up the hype", but because of the FOOD being SLOW-COOKED and SMOKED on the SIDEWALK! WOOOOOO!!! But after all that ranting, Corby's is a good place during the summer months to have a quiet pint, maybe meet some new folks, and make use of that patio.
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
Corby's is a SB institution. If you're an Irish fan or just like the idea of being stuffed in a small bar with a bunch of guys in brown leather sandals and girls carrying designer purses around in their armpits, Corby's is your dream come true. On the other hand, if the thought of elbowing 6 drunken domers out of the way every time you want to take a shot at your pool table makes you break out in a cold sweat, please do not go here. be prepared to pay a cover charge. yes, a cover charge to enter a bar. with no live entertainment of any sort. They do have a patio. one star for having a patio.
google avatar

Boris J.

Yelp
Check out this old historic neighborhood corner bar! I heard this is usually a ND student bar, but when I went school was out for the summer. My friends and I met up here after a conference and had a great time. Prices were extremely competitive and beer selection was surprising. Staff was friendly and worked hard. An in house pizza kitchen makes a real nice, old school pie. You can really feel the history in this place; tin ceilings, vintage Fighting Irish murals, hard wood floors, and beer coolers that date back from God knows when. They don't make places like this any more. I'll be back.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Only made one visit here, but it seemed the prototypical college bar. Enormous pitchers of beer at dangerously low prices. Co-eds and their callers abound. I recall a few pool tables as well. This isn't necessarily a good thing. I've come to associate pool tables with violence. Know what I mean? Some guy with a five-foot stick gets flustered while he's setting up an important shot, and the rest is history. And never, ever, is there a pool table with wide enough boundaries to prevent these kind of coma-inducing incidents from happening. Such is the nature of the game.

Yelp
BAR. College Bar. Limited menu... pizza, subs, wings, garlic bread. Food for their base crowd. Full liquor license if that's your thing. Smoke free... outside patio... average bathrooms, but clean enough. It's exactly what you might expect when you're thinking "college bar".
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
I've been in here 2 times in my life, both to meet a friend, and don't think that I will ever go back. #1: an absolute tool fest. All of the ND students come here, and all of the rich townies that wanted to go to Notre Dame come here and strut around. #2: a cover charge. There are wayy better bars around than this that don't charge a cover. #3: Music volume. I listen to loud music, and this is by far the loudest music bar in town, a great deal louder than the Oyster Bar, which is pretty loud in it's own right. Now, they do have cheap drinks, and if you're looking for local college tail, Thursday nights are when the students come for Thirsty Thursdays. But, this idea is far and away outshone by the meatheads and preppies that are absolutely stuffed to the rafters in this place, and the mere fact that I go hoarse trying to be heard in this bar is an abomination.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
the official bar of the ROMP - my cohort at notre dame in the MNA program. spacious, good beer prices (not so much hard booze), 3 sets of cornhole boards, and a really nice, revamped kitchen. corby's is a great bar with good service. and the best spot in town for you and 28 friends.
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
Not a bad Irish bar as it has three unique environments withen the bar being in an old building and so forth. This is no BWW and the uniqueness of this pub is highly appreciated. The middle part has some pool tables and tge bar stage area is grand with this building surely having lots of history as a tavern
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
How Oyster Bar and the Backer have a better rating than Corby's, I will never know. This is the only ND bar that is actually a bar. You can sit at the bar and just drink. No ridiculous dancing, no cages like Fever, just good old fashioned drinking. They have cornhole out back on the patio during the summer too. Corby's rocks, and they never charge a cover, so I'm not sure what those guys below are talking about.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Great local bar, wide variety in crowd here, drinks are very affordable. Has a fenced in patio in the back and two pool tables.
google avatar

Collin M.

Yelp
3 1/2 Stars Corby's is usually a nice place to enjoy a pint at the bar and chat with friends or the bartenders during the week. On tuesday nights it is the place to be for students and is often standing room only. Thurs-Sat nights are a toned down version of tuesdays, the place is crowded but you can move around and breathe usually. Overall its a decent place to enjoy a drink or party on given nights for relatively low cost.
google avatar

Shannon N.

Yelp
I like Corby's for all different occasions. It has like 4 different bars in one, with an outdoors, quiet room where you can talk, pizza room, and dancing/bar room. The pizza is great, the tap selection is good, and I think the crowd is diverse. Drinks here are not the cheapest in South Bend, but they have decent specials.
google avatar

Rob K.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Corbys since 2009 before this past weekend (November, 2013). While I was always a big fan, they have made great strides since my last visit. We were there on a football weekend and when I walked in on a Friday night two things immediately stood out...1. No cover charge, and no smoking. Wonderful. They now serve food, and made it look much cleaner/brighter. Prices are still cheap..2.50 pounder cans of Miller Lite for example and the servers are still friendly. Was pretty empty until midnight when it got PACKED! I will continue to stop in Corbys during my Notre Dame visits. Mixed crowd, everyone is friendly, and cheap prices. Go Irish!
google avatar

Dwyne P.

Yelp
This was a great place to check out when I was in town. Got to play beer pong and pool while I was there. Good vibe and good prices
google avatar

Laszlo N.

Yelp
Way crowded, way overpriced, and a great place to meet 21 year olds, if that is the level you are working at. Domer central. I wont be back.

Yelp
Not a bad place as I first thought. Came here to celebrate my fiancé promotion. Went to the Dj area to request a song (didn't realize you had to jump over the security guard who is leaning over the entire stage area, blocking the path to speak with the Dj). I ask the guard since he was blocking the path if I could request a song. His girlfriend who was standing there also perpendicular to the stage railing, rose up from her seat and began talking directly to me. I honestly couldn't hear her at all and repeatedly said "what?" And she continued to enter my personal space and kept waving her hand in my face saying "bye-bye.." not sure why, I'm assuming her alcohol level was blinding her judgment and ultimately led her into immediate defense mode feeling threatened by me speaking with "her man" (as she said). I became upset and confused with the situation, where then the security guard took his lady friends side and was also surprisingly unprofessional himself. I was shocked and walked away and of course. When I came back to the group (who were playing pool at the time) I arrived there and they asked if I made the request for the song, I obviously repeated the strange experience to them. My fiancé was confused by this and wanted to clear the moment with both the employee of this establishment and his personal affair. Because he was holding a pool stick in his hand the security guard instantly became way over defensive right off the start. There was no middle ground, no questions, nothing. Just attack mode on a customer. I couldn't believe it and neither could my fiancé. This "guard" was not protecting the customers, or the establishment, he was focused on creating and escalating a situation which ultimately ended up happening. I was called names, embarrassed and insulted by these "employees". Yes, of course I became then defensive for my fiancé and stood by him ready to protect and do what whatever I may of needed to do, as any human being would - I will never come back here and further spread this story. Things like this should be avoided and not stirred, especially by the staff who is there to break up and block these same situations happening between their customers. It's an outrage and poor service. I caution those trying to have a good time here and or if you do go avoid "ghetto" individuals and their affairs with the security guards at all costs. I guess it was my mistake for even trying to request a simple song. I would suggest the manager to deal head on with this situation of "lovers quarrel" from taking place while on the clock at work. Very disappointing. Although I do respect the employee who came running outside to apologize for their employees behavior, and welcoming us back in the future, however; I will certainly not be coming back here again to be insulted and attacked by the individuals whose job is solely to avoid that from happening.

Yelp
There are times when you want to go to a quiet nice pub and enjoy a few beers. Well Corbys Irish pub was the place. For a guy who can count on one hand the amount of beers I have per month. Nice atmosphere and friendly bartender. That was august 27 evening. Now I will go and see an ND game there.
google avatar

Izzy N.

Yelp
Teeny tiny. Real dank and dirty. When I went it was the summer on a weekday, there was no cover but it was busy with students that were townies, especially from Bethel. Townies mixed with students from Holy Cross and Notre Dame in the regular season. If you are in your 20s, you will be surrounded by people your age. I cannot vouch for the prices because I never paid for my drinks here, but my friends say it's cheap. A typical college bar.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
I hate this bar for the following reasons: -It costs $5 just to walk in and there is supposedly a "dress code," but that place is always full of shabbily dressed douches, so who knows. -The dancing is basically nonexistent, even though they have a dance floor. I guess nobody wants to ruin their Saturday night best that they had to wear just to get in. Saturday night best includes White Sox baseball caps worn backwards, cargo shorts, and flipflops, fyi. -You can smoke there. I know this is an Indiana thing, but I feel like Corby's has a specifically bad smoking population. -You WILL get groped by a stranger, even if the bar isn't crowded. -Tuesday nights are college night, so just stay away, unless you like wearing vomit. -The back patio is reserved for people who feel they'd rather play cornhole at a bar with a $5 cover charge and more expensive Miller Lite, instead of just at home with the cheaper stuff. And you will get the stare down if you go out to the patio and interrupt their game. I give this crap hole one star because the building itself does not offend me and the beer is cold and cheap. Other than that, avoid this place like the plague, unless you like getting side glances from trashy girls and trashier guys.
google avatar

Jp S.

Yelp
3 dollar 16 oz domestic can beers now. How can you beat that. Well they just did, they finally opened up their kitchen. Pizza's are damn good, but their Italian sausage pizza is phenomenal. The crowd is back and that's a welcome site as well.

Yelp
Diverse neighborhood bar feel with something for everyone. Completely different atmosphere from football season to the summer season, but all is fun! Great place to go with one friend or a large group! No wait staff so at times, it is difficult to get a drink from the bar so order 2 at a time! With that being said, the bartenders do a great job juggling drink orders and patrons considering the amount of people they serve on some nights!

Sadie J.

Yelp
Rating 5 stars for the service, these 2 creepy guys wouldn't leave my friend and I (both girls) alone and were waiting for us outside of the bar when we left. One of the bouncers Patrick walked us toward our house for at least half a mile before the boys finally stopped following us. Patrick thank you so much for making sure we got home safely. Definitely a bar with staff that cares about the safety and well-being of its customers.
