This Region Has Glaciers, Rainforests, and Mountains All in One—Here’s How to Plan Your Trip

"Home to dramatic granite spires and glacial lakes, this world-famous park is unbeatable for iconic treks like the W or O Circuit, though the weather can be so unpredictable that a single day often feels like all four seasons." - Eric Sheets

I took a bus tour and a 22km trekking to the base of the towers. Both are very great. The park is beautiful. A tip is that you could bring a small plastic bag and hold the trash. Please don’t litter within the park.

Punchlines from doing the W trek Cons: 1. Lots and lots of people on the W trail; lots of infrastructure to monetize tourism 2. Campsites can be loud; serve alcohol until 1030 pm 3. Outdoor experience and the associated serenity is diminished Pros 1. Stunning scenery- 10/10 2. Hiking still fun and can be a challenge 3. Meet interesting people from all over 4. Supplied tents are comfortable actually 5. There are hot showers at the camps I was here in 2007 doing to O route and the park has dramatically changed since then to monetize tourism which I get but I preferred when it was more wild. Still beautiful and a great experience. If you go, the O route would be 100% the way to go and then blow through the w section

The road from El Calafate to Torres del Paine, Chile, across the border is rough. It is a barren field of thorn bushes everywhere. However, as you get closer to Torres del Paine, the changing colors of the waters of the large and small lakes begin to catch your eye. Once you enter the trekking course, the clouds that change their expressions according to the wind, the rugged mountains that hold the clouds, and the hidden lakes are breathtakingly beautiful. It is a place I want to visit again.

Our Torres del Paine tour culminates our 3-day Patagonian trekking. It’s a nice way to end the trip as well as visit Chile as well. The massif tower mountains are not only incredible to see but it’s such a zen experience to do a leisurely hike alongside them and Lake Pehoé and Lake Nordenskjöld. Adding to the zen are the beautiful wild bushes all along the path. Seeing these plants you’ll conclude like me that no landscape designer could do better than Mother Nature. Do pick and taste the super sour wild blue Calafate berries along the way also to kinda appreciate this place not only through your sight, smell, sound and touch sensors, but via taste too. Some notes: do not lose the receipt given by the Chilean border immigration when you first enter as you’ll need it to exit, there doesn’t seem to be any mobile service signal if you’re roaming so no mobile internet either, layer your clothes— I had a light puffy jacket in the morning and was just wearing a T-shirt in the afternoon.

Africa is for animals. Patagonia is for landscapes. Every photo was a good one. Postcard quality. We went in early January. and no coat needed. Bring all weather gear... Suitable places to sit and relax in the mountains, or if you are into any level of hiking. Snacks available, but pack in, pack out. I carried an empty Coke bottle all day long.

Remarkable experience even. A marvelous place to visit. Get ready to walk a lot and take incredible pictures. From Puerto Natales you can reach the park by bus. Go to the main bus station from Puerto Natales to see your options.
