"On the site of a former brick windmill in what is today central Auckland , an old Sheraton tower underwent a $9 million renovation in 2006 to become one of the city’s most luxurious hotels: the Cordis. Across the common spaces and 411 guestrooms, this property is draped in fine silks and velvets, appointed with antiques fit for royalty, and crowned by gilded dome ceilings and chandeliers. It’s a popular meeting place for the corporate elite, featuring a striking ballroom that seats 860 people, banquet style. High-tech conferencing equipment and an in-house audio-visual team create a seamless experience, which has helped the hotel earn Earth Check certification. When work is complete, there are ample options for unwinding, from thehigh tea at the elegant lobby lounge—a more delicate version of the London lobby—and the Chuan Spa, which specializes in traditional Chinese medicine. Also on site is an exclusive Club Lounge, a fitness studio, a swimming pool, and the renowned Eight restaurant, which offers an interactive dining experience with eight specialist kitchens, each dedicated to a different cuisine and led by an expert chef."

The hotel was very nice, modern and clean. Breakfast was impressive. A lots of food. I never got a chance to try the buffet dinner at 8 restaurant, but I heard it is delicious. Room service was great. Heated pool and saunas were great. The hotel has the shuttle to go to the town for free. Also they have ice dreams and sherbet for breakfast. Love it.

Love it here! Had a brilliant girls weekend away and was able to relax in the ease of their amenities. The spa was so relaxing and nicely decorated. Loved all my treatments and oils. Room service was easy to order through the QR code and speedy. Their breakfast buffet was also top notch and I cannot wait to bring my kids down for a treat. My only feedback would be it would be nice to have queen beds instead of twins and the valet parking is a bit of a mission when dropping off and picking up at peak times. Their team was certainly busy!

My family and I (including my mom and my little one) have stayed here a few times. The room is spacious and the services are luxurious. Staff are all professional and respectful. We felt like little royals here having valet parking which is affordable, buffet breakfast and free shuttle to the heart of CBD. We had lots of swims in the hot and cooler pool and sauna!

My husband and I stayed this weekend. We had a wonderful stay! Loved the sauna, spa and pool. Our room was great, the bed was extremely comfortable. We had dinner at Our Land bar, which was delicious. Breakfast at 8 was amazing! Overall an amazing stay

I love this hotel. I stayed here for a conference in 2019 and came back (from Australia) with my family in June 2025, for 2 nights. It was just as I remembered, superb! Eight restaurant for breakfast and dinner is amazing. Such a selection, you couldn't ask for more! Chocolate fountain is a special touch. Rooms have lots to offer with amenities compared to other 5 star hotels we've stayed. Our room 301, had a view of the Auckland Sky Tower. Room service was super quick. They even delivered a complimentary, individual cake for my husband's birthday that I'd mentioned. Highly recommend this hotel.

My sisters and I had dinner at the Chandelier Lounge. We were well looked after by Aaron. We gave him 10 out of 10 for his service to us tonight. Lovely presentation and friendly welcoming character. A perfect dining experience and the food was delicious. He even surprised my sisters with a small birthday cup cake as it was her birthday |Ngā mihi

Staff were all amazing, nice hotel. The pool and spa is very nice. Only downside is that the food in the room service was inedible. The pizza was very gross and the fish potion is tiny! Other wise we had an enjoyable stay and once again the staff were amazing

I was recently at the hotel with a large group and had a great experience. The staff's preparation and planning were excellent leading up to our event. They could not have been more helpful or understanding of our last-minute requests and changes. The food we had over the two days of our stay was absolutely delicious! Our rooms were luxurious and perfect for relaxing after a long day. I recommend Cordis to anyone booking an event or a large group. Our experience could not have been better!

Yelp
Very comfortable hotel in a good location with friendly and helpful staff. This hotel offers music in the lobby. We saw two different people playing the harp. They had a character dressed in costume. Free cotton candy made for you. Their restaurant Eight is five stars for everything they offer on their buffet. Everything is super fresh. I don't normally like buffets but this one is superb. We ate breakfast and lunch there. I thoroughly enjoyed the heated swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. Unfortunately the steam room was closed for maintenance on the only day that I had to enjoy this so I couldn't try it. Overall a very comfortable premium 5 star hotel. Thank you!

Yelp
Internet/ wi-fi - horrible, many areas of hotel have no signal Breakfast - basic, I've definitely had better and if you want your coffee to go they charge $6 for takeaway. Room - definitely not luxury but decent enough. Location - about a 15 minute walk to city center but the hotel has a shuttle if you're not in the mood for walking. Spa - overall great service and you can enjoy the amenities with spa service. I enjoyed my facial and massage and loved the lounge area to relax afterwards. All in all, for the price the hotel is ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here but if you get a good deal I wouldn't pass it up.

Yelp
Excellent service, food and accommodations. Lots of things to do close by, knowledgeable staff

Yelp
From the doorman to the front desk staff and housekeeping staff we felt like a welcomed guest. The rooms were immaculate, the dinner and breakfast buffer were superb. I would recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

Yelp
The location of this hotel could not be any better. While it is a little bit of a drive from the airport, it is right where you want to be for just about everything else. The rooms are large and very clean. They have lots of modern updates and plenty of plugs for your electrics. The bathroom is big and has an excellent shower. The staff was friendly and helpful with directions to local attractions. The breakfast buffet has something for everyone no matter your taste for early morning.

Yelp
Our flight from the US landed at 5:30am. We booked a room on the Club Lounge level, which is a bit more expensive, but I definitely recommend. The hotel offered to have us picked up in a luxury sedan but I missed their email in time to take advantage. I just wanted to point out that option for other travelers. We arrived at the hotel at around 6:30am. Reserving a Club Level room comes with an early check in at 11am. We were prepared to just leave our luggage at the front desk and go find breakfast to kill time until 11am. Since we informed them in advance of our arrival time, they ensured our room would be ready for check in at 6am. They didn't have to do this, but it was welcomed after a 14 hour flight. The breakfast at the hotel's Eight Restaurant was diverse to say the least. If you're willing to pay $45NZD, you have a full buffet including every food you can imagine from eggs Benedict to waffles, cereal, yogurt, ice cream, chocolate fountain, sweet and savory pastries, coffee, tea, espresso, cappuccino, cheeses, meats, and even traditional Chinese fair. To respond to another reviewers 1-star that included the hotel being under Chinese ownership and the front desk barely speaking English, that was not my experience. There were 3 front desk employees at 6am plus an employee at the concierge desk. Of these 4, only one was Asian and her English was easily understandable. The 3 other employees were native Kiwis. All 4 were extremely helpful. After checking in, I requested foam pillows, which were delivered by housekeeping in less than 15 minutes. Now, all of this great service may be due to the type of room I reserved. But the saying is true: you get what you pay for. Overall I am beyond pleased with my experience so far and highly recommend this hotel, especially if you reserve a Club Level room.

Yelp
This hotel is supposed to be 5 stars. We were guaranteed check in no matter how early we arrived but still sitting and waiting. Had things booked for the day and really need a shower and clean clothes after flying all night. Very disorganized check in process. They keep telling us to go have breakfast. Again. Really sad start to our retirement dream trip.

Yelp
Very comfortable beds. Nice size room and great location. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Carolyn P.

Yelp
First of all, they have sold the hotel to a Chinese company and the front desk barley speaks English. We gave our credit card on arrival and when we left the hotel, we paid cash and got a receipt for the cash payment. Since January we have been fighting with the Hotel and American Express as the hotel said we didnot pay with cash even though we have a receipt from the hotel manager. I have been a travel agent for 35 years and have never had a problem like this. Bottom line is don't trust them. Carolyn Passantino

Yelp
Lovely stay at Hotel Cordis in Auckland. Terrific location, very walkable to everything in City Centre. Accommodations were comfortable with little thoughtful details. Very polite and helpful staff. Would book again if we are ever in Auckland.

Yelp
Great hotel for business folks, but do not recommend for families or people on a budget. I came here on a business trip - stayed four nights. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of Auckland (a rather small city). I was especially grateful for the concierge who gave me great recommendations for walking distance places (I was without a car). The breakfast buffet is massive, but the price tag is very expensive for what it's worth. I ate a la carte for breakfast on most days. The rooms are very spacious, clean and quiet. The rooms come with their own mobile phone, so if you plan on coming and not using a sim card, it's very helpful! There are many conferences that take place in the lobby, so it can be a little chaotic if you plan on having a drink in the lobby or finding a quiet spot that is not the room. The gym facilities are very nice as well, plenty equipment!

Yelp
It was early Saturday morning and I was on my way to the Ferry Terminal to catch a boat to Devonport. My friend who lives on The Shore, rarely gets a weekend off from work (he is a Government employee - enough on that matter) but when he does, we endeavour to "catch-up" and touch bases. Ergo it was with some dismay that I, hurtling up Khyber Pass in a bus, took a call from him to cancel our Saturday morning rendezvous. He had an ill child and his wife forbade him from leaving the house. As we terminated our call, the bus turned into Symonds Street and I beheld the looming edifice that is the Cordis Hotel! In a previous life, this hotel was called the Sheraton and, most recently, the Langham. I have fond memories of this 5 star establishment- not as a hotel guest, but as a fairly regular visitor to a number of bars that the hotel operated on site. Said memories prompted me to quickly phone the hotel and inquire about breakfast. The Eight Restaurant is open from 6am until 11am and serves a full buffet breakfast at $45 per person (includes GST). You may also order a meal from the kitchen should nothing on the buffet be to your liking, so the cheerful telephonist advised me. The bus stop is conveniently situated right outside the hotel. As I made my way through the rather grand entrance, I briefly paused to admire the porter, resplendent in top-hat and full length overcoat, and returned his cheerful greeting. I also gaped at the massive chandelier cascading from the foyer's atrium. Upon arrival, I was greeted at the restaurant entrance and shown to a table. The place appeared very busy with most tables occupied but there were a large contingent of waiting staff busily attending to guest's requirements, dispensing coffee & clearing tables as patrons vacated. I made my way to the Breakfast Buffet and Hot Food Dispensary. This is situated in a type of back room area (you cannot see the buffet from the restaurant). To my disappointment though, I found the food presentation to be uncoordinated and poorly set out. Items were spread out in a very haphazard manner, inconsistent with most 5-star hotel breakfast buffets . The purpose of any buffet table should be to ensure an effortless and orderly flow of "traffic" but this is not the case with the Cordis. Rest assured the food was plentiful with a huge selection but I believe that this is where the problem may lie. There is a lack of space - sections appear to have been squeezed together and the whole layout is confusing. This resulted in numerous trips back and forth to my table whilst I located and then gathered my breakfast ensemble. To add to this confusion, the tea and coffee is not self service and I was asked at least 5 times by different staff if I wanted to order a hot drink before I'd started eating. This may suit the North American palate but is unappealing to most kiwis. When I was ready to order coffee at the end of my meal however, I actually had to interrupt a wait-person and ask for coffee to be brought to my table. Shoddy. I found the quality of the food and service to be mediocre although there was plenty of both. When I presented my credit card as payment, I was informed that there is a processing fee applicable. I believe this surcharge to be totally unnecessary - at $45 a head, this is already one of the most expensive breakfast venues in Auckland. The Eight Restaurant is appropriately named - it is definitely not a Ten. I will not be recommending the Cordis Hotel to my Shore friend, or anyone else as a matter of fact, when next we attempt to meet in Auckland city for breakfast

Yelp
I liked it. Good hotel. Staff was nice. Mark in the lobby dining was brilliant. Smelled nice. Good amenities. Central to everything. The hotel was made for short people though. Short ceilings and short hallways and doorways. Was fine though. Breakfast though it took them more then hour to serve even though it was just scrambled eggs and toast. Dinner wasn't that good but I find food in New Zealand in general isn't good. Gym is fine, small but fine enough. The spa area and pool are cool. Beds were comfortable.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful inside. Right now, decorated for Christmas and decked out with trees, gingerbread houses and more. I love a good, festive spirit. The rooms were great. Updated, comfortable and spacious. The towels were huge and fluffy - the best I've ever had in a hotel. Toiletries were outstanding - toothbrushes, toothpaste, vanity kits, etc, etc. They had converters if you forgot yours at home. Really, this hotel had it all. The downside is that their water pressure in the shower sucks. It feels like it's barely hitting you and the water went from super hot, lukewarm to cold constantly. We complained and they sent an engineer up and I'm pretty sure he didn't believe we had a real problem and didn't do anything. So... yay to everything else, but maybe get your pipes working. Nothing sucks more than to wake up in the morning and take a cold shower when you expect hot water to be coming out -- and I don't mean scalding your skin to freezing your butt off levels of consistency.

Yelp
We were excited about our stay at the Cordis based on the Langham reputation. Did not meet 5 star expectations. Both nights late at night an alarm in the hallway went off. Same problem both times. Why wait until it happens again to try and fix it. Poor hospitality. The rooms were small and underwhelming. Location was fine. To their credit they comped us some extra charges to make up for being kept awake. However we were also double charged. Having prepaid for the stay. I called a couple times and they were able to reverse the charges.

Yelp
After traveling for over 20 hours from the states I took the bus from the airport and it dropped right off in front of Cordis. I was greeted outside by two friendly employees who offered to take my bags. I arrived prior to the typical 3 pm check in time and the receptionist was super friendly and even upgraded my room. She was telling me about the dining experience at "8" where I would receive 15% off. The room was super nice and clean. They even have a smart phone for you to use- For Free! The bed is comfy and shower has a great rainfall shower head. They also have a lot of toiletries in case you forgot anything. The room comes with a safe too. Everyone was super great. Now to the dining- 8 was amazing. 8 diff cuisines everything from fresh seafood aka king crab legs, clams, mussels- everything. Sushi. Indian food. Fresh salad. Pasta. And meat and amazing dessert. Extremely happy with my stay, even a little bit sad I have to check out!

Yelp
Unfortunately, we had to make a change to our travel schedule and all the other hotels we had bookings with were kind enough to refund our prepaid room. The Langham/Cordis was not. Terrible customer service. They've lost the chance we would ever stay there now.

Kayla Y.

Yelp
Not pleased at all with this hotel. My bed was missing sheets when I first checked in to my room. Also, no options for vegan diets. In addition food was very bland in the 8 restaurant. They messed up my order.

Yelp
The people in the spa are super rude, they turn off everything 20 minutes before it closes and walk through the dressing room screaming the word "maintenance", they won't let you use the towels outside of the spa so they expect you to walk back to the room naked or in your wet bathing suit . The staff is super rude in the spa! The jacuzzi does not have jets. I spent thousands of dollars to be harassed.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday and the city seemed a little dead. However the hotel was very beautiful in a great location walking distances to several areas. I was disappointed that they didn't have an ATM machine in the building but the concierge showed me the way to one nearby. The bar and lounge has great music and drinks. The restaurant is open all night and room service is also available. The staff is was courteous and helpful. I didn't like the $35 self park or $45 for valet prices, however given the area I guess it was to be expected. Overall very pleased and will return on my last night in New Zealand.

Yelp
Every bit a true 4 star hotel. Newly remodeled rooms, exceptional service most of the time, a great city location, one of the best options in Auckland.

Henry M.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel when it was branded as a Langham and loved it. Now re-branded as Cordis (part of Langham) and even better. Common areas and been refreshed and rooms remodeled. Really nice. Great pool and spa, awesome breakfast buffet (but ridiculously overpriced) and terrific service. Great choice if staying in AKL!

G H.

Yelp
The Cordis was one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip, and will definitely have to be repeated in the future. We arrived to an awesome valet staff, and concierge. They were very helpful in providing travel recommendations for visitors and advice on local restaurants, as well as informing us of their complimentary downtown shuttle. We decided to splurge a little bit and got the Chairman Suite on our first night in Auckland. It was probably the best suite I have ever stayed in amongst the hotels we've ever lodged at. The Chairman Suite was beautiful, clean, and tastefully designed to fit the contemporary/modern mold. The room had three bathrooms, large king size bed, a living room, and a separated dining room. One of the bathrooms had a bidet, which was quite "refreshing" to use... The main bathroom had a jacuzzi size tub, and the shower had 6 shower-heads with all these knob handles - I was drenched wet trying to figure out what function each knob worked. The service was impeccable, we were personally shown where the gym, spa, and restaurants were located in the hotel. Also, we were treated to complimentary meals, and full access to the Cordis Club Lounge. Needless to say, we drank and ate to our heart's delight. If you can get access to the Club Lounge, DO IT. The food pretty much sets the epicurean food bar, and gave us a preview of New Zealand's awesome cuisine. I ate a bunch of kiwis (the fruit, not the flightless avian mammal or the people) and it ticked me off that every single kiwi were perfectly ripe and sweet, with no hint of sour aftertaste. They also had this delicious kiwi juice that I'm pretty sure we drank at least half a gallon of... Maybe everything is perfect in New Zealand. Anyways, the meals were diverse, as we were able to dine between steak, beef wellington, sushi, lamb, etc. The overall experience at the Cordis was fantastic. DEFINITELY coming back here again.

Rita M.

Yelp
Do not eat the food. Do not eat off the buffet. Do not waste your time getting your clothing done. Hopefully you won't die in the overcrowded elevators. Or do not disturb sign is useless

Meg D.

Yelp
Excellent hotel! Great location, within walking distance to national museum and with a free shuttle to shopping district. Super friendly and helpful desk staff and rooms were large and full of amenities. The pool/spa area was beautiful as well. Wasn't familiar with Cordis before this stay but will definitely stay again!
