The Best Hotels in Budapest

"Of all the hotels on this list, the Corinthia is the only one, bar the Kempinski, that began its existence as a hotel. The Grand Hotel Royal Budapest, as it was called, in its heyday of the early 20th-century, hosted stars such as Josephine Baker, who performed in the hotel’s Orfeum cabaret. It has served more recently as the inspiration for Wes Anderson’s Oscar-winning movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. A vast establishment created from three adjacent 19th-century buildings with the original side streets between them transformed into lofty glassed atriums, the Corinthia is perhaps most famed for its beautifully restored Royal Spa. The spa was originally opened in 1888 and was saved from the ignominious fate of being converted into a multi-storey car park. Guests can swim or bask in saunas and hot tubs surrounded by columns and period tilework. Equally impressive is the huge cream and gilded ballroom, once the venue of Budapest’s first cinema. For gourmets, the hotel has two fine-dining restaurants."

These 7 Properties Will Make You Feel Like You're at the Grand Budapest Hotel

"The Corinthia Hotel features a 49-foot swimming pool set beneath a stained glass roof, with a symmetrical and columned design reminiscent of a Wes Anderson film. The property offers luxe rooms, a central location in Budapest, and various spa services."

"Corinthia Hotel Budapest Opened as the Grand Hotel Royal in 1896,the luxurious Corinthia Hotel has a long and storied past. It was here that the first film was ever screened in Budapest, and the building weathered fires and war before relaunching in its most recent incarnation in 2004. Travelers who really want to learn about the hotel’s history can take one of two weekly tours with manager Tibor Meskál, who has worked on and off here since 1961. Though the original interiors were demolished long ago, the property nevertheless retains a regal atmosphere. Italian limestone, Spanish marble, and gilded molding lend a sense of grandeur in the Grand Ballroom, a marble lobby is accented with swirling golden filigrees in the flooring, and guest rooms feature warm wood furnishings and creamy palettes. Even the leisure facilities skew toward the opulent: the courtyard-style indoor swimming pool is topped with a stunning stained-glass ceiling."

I’m writing a positive review about this spa which I visited on December 10th because everything was absolutely amazing. Dominika Lilly and Nika were the kindest hospitality workers I have ever met, extremely helpful, funny, and professional at the same time. They assisted us with everything and explained all the information clearly and understandably. The couple before us had some problems and I overheard the entire conversation. The situation was handled with exceptional calmness and professionalism. The staff reassured the guests and took immediate action, which was truly impressive. The facilities were perfect, and everything was beautiful. The price included slippers, a bathrobe, towels, refreshers and from the reception you were able to ask for deodorant hairspray nail kits and everything you can think of ,the price was around €30 per person and it was absolutely worth it. I would go back anytime, and I definitely will, because I spent a fantastic three hours there. Thank you so much to the entire staff for everything.

We stayed for 3 nights at Corinthia. The hotel is very elegant and refined. The pool area is beautiful, although the water was a bit cold. Overall, a very pleasant experience. The in-room breakfast was amazing — a big highlight!

When we arrived we were taken aback by the kerb appeal of the building itself. Beutiful. We were greeted by a very polite and helpful doorman who guided us to Zozan on the checking desk. She again was very polite and helpful. To our amazement we had been upgraded to the presidential sweet for no extra cost! It was stunning inside and almost as much room as our house!. The whole ambience of the place is great and all staff can't do enough for you. It is right in the heart of the city and no more than 30 mins walk from any where you may want to visit. I cannot recommend the Corinthia enough if you want a European city break. Budapest is also a fantastic city with incredible food & vibe.

We had a lovely stay here and although I’ve stayed here multiple times in the past, it was many years ago, so I couldn’t remeber how nice it was! We stayed in a suite that was amazing! Made us just want to stay in all weekend! We also ate at caviar and bull onsite one night and had a fantastic meal. The breakfasts were also top draw! If you have access to the executive lounge there are decent snacks and drinks on offer. The service was great by all the staff. Only slight issue was lifts seemed had lots of problems. One morning our key was re cut 4 times by staff for us to get to the first floor executive lounge. On the 5 time at the desk someone said the lift won’t go to that floor, and we’d have to use staff stair 😅 but in the whole, an amazing experience. We’d definitely stay there again!

All round the Corinthia Budapest is a great hotel with good prices and excellent service from very friendly employees throughout the hotel. Excellent spar. Relaxed lounge areas.|The bedroom on fifth floor was very nice clean and comfortable. The heating system is set at a high temperature which can become quite uncomfortable in the middle of the night. Loved the Christmas decorations and Christmas Sunday brunch with free flowing beverages. |Very tasty food in the restaurant. The only issues we would highlight is the problem with the hotel being so big that the breakfast restaurant gets very crowded with delayed self service causing the food to become cold by time you sit down. This is also due to many guests leaving the Bain Marie food service warmer lids open as they are rushing to get food. Also the coffee is machines are not good quality or require servicing as the coffee was warm or cold once milk or cream was added. This was the case everyday over 5 days we never got a hot coffee. |Hot food and drinks are very important and this was unfortunately the only let down during our stay. |Hence the reason for a lower review score. We always prefer coffee cafetière or pots of hot coffee or chocolate as the temperature stays hot longer throughout breakfast. It’s very rare that public use coffee machines produce adequately hot or quality coffee.|Hopefully the hotel takes note of these issues and makes changes. We were not the only guests complaining about these issues of food and beverages being cold. |Aside from this I would recommend the hotel.

Hotel is good, amenities are perfect. Ambience as expected from luxury hotels. House keeping needs little improvement with room cleaning tasks. If hotel can add few Asian Vegetarian Cuisine will help in Menu selection

The hotel was spotless, staff were all so helpful and very friendly. Food was incredible and the atmosphere was great. Found in a great location close to all sites. Executive room was perfect for us two friends and great value for money, it’s definitely worth the extra cost. Would like to personally thank Achour at the executive lounge, as he met all our needs and always greeted us with a smile. Will definitely be coming back!!!

We recently stayed at Corinthia Budapest and were genuinely impressed. The location is excellent — around a 25-minute walk to the Danube, and roughly the same to the thermal baths and Heroes’ Square. It’s very central, with great public transport options close by, which made getting around the city easy.||The hotel itself is beautiful, with original architectural features throughout, complemented by modern décor that still feels in keeping with the building’s character. Our room was spacious, with both a bath and a shower, and the bedding was unbelievably soft. The temperature was slightly warm for our liking (we prefer a very cool room), but the hotel quickly provided a fan which solved it. We overlooked one of the atriums; it was very quiet, although it meant we didn’t have an outside view. It would be a nice touch in the future if the TVs offered a live outdoor “window” feature, similar to inside cruise cabins.||The turndown service was a lovely surprise. We also visited the spa — not thermal, but very relaxing, beautifully designed, and impressive considering the hotel’s long history.||Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel offered excellent value for the quality and comfort, and we would happily return on a future trip to Budapest.
