Corner Cafe Independence

First time there, this place was jammed packed, but the wait to be seated was less than 5 minutes. Our server was Julian and he was very attentive and nice. The food was top notch, we all loved it. The seasoning was just right, I didn't need to salt my food. The atmosphere was great. I definitely recommend this place

We eat at Corner Cafe 2-3 times a month with friends and the service and food has always been good at the Independence location. However the last couple of visits the food has been suspect. Smaller portions, not very appetizing. Today I had the pot roast dinner that came with two sides, so I chose salad and mashed potatoes. I was served a very small portion of roast that was very dry and chewy. It was saved by the gravy. My wife’s breakfast was good but we noticed their biscuits are visibly smaller. I hope smaller portions and poor quality of food is not the new norm. The pot roast was $20, pricy for what I received. May be going to Black Bear for breakfast if things don’t change.

It was a relaxing environment, the food was great. Had dinner for Valentines Day and was impressed. Loved the fried chicken and baked potato! Its hard finding a perfect baked potato but I think I may have found it! Call me weird but I love potatoes! Our server Ashleigh Zabor (spelling?) was great. Great customer service. Highly recommend.

The wife and I decided we'd like some comfort food prior to heading to the Royals game. Being from out of town, we did our usual Google search and found the Corner Cafe was close and had good reviews. We were quickly greeted and seated when we arrived. Our waitress was great, and we quickly had our drinks and she took our order. I had the fried catfish with baked potato, and my wife had their special beef tips and noodles with mashed potatoes and fried okra. We both loved our meals, everything was served fresh and hot, and the serving sizes were big! We were very pleased with our decision and left full and very comforted! 🙂

I gave them 5 stars because even though the food wasn't perfect, the service and wonderful staff made up for it. I ordered the meatloaf. Nothing really special about it. It was under seasoned and had a texture you would find in an elementary school cafeteria. The gravy was overly runny and moved around on my plate like water. The roll on the other hand was perfect. It was hot, huge and tasted great. The pie options here are awesome!!! Delicious pies!!!! The other people at my table ate breakfast and the biscuit and gravy was delicious and the omelet was cooked to perfection. So overall this place gets 5 stars! Ill come back and something different.

Our server, Shannon, was absolutely wonderful! She was so kind and extremely attentive despite having several full tables. She made sure we had everything we needed and more. We highly recommend her and will definitely be back!

I really enjoyed my first time visit to the Corner Cafe. I drive past there quite often and the parking lot stays occupied. Everyone who I had talked to about the place spoke highly of it. Well today is my day off and my wife's birthday and she was off too. I decided that I would take her there for lunch today. I was not disappointed. My waitress Petra was everything. She smiled and was friendly. She wasn't hovering but was never far away. She even checked to see if I could get some of yesterday's dessert special. It happened and it was well worth it. The food and service negates the slightly higher prices. Maybe the prices aren't slightly higher but I'm just very conservative with financial matters or in other words a tight wad. One more thing, the bread pudding was the best that I ever had. That says a lot coming from me who makes my own egg nog bread pudding.

Corner Café in Independence is worth the stop. We went during the Saturday lunch rush and while it was busy, the table wait was minimal. The food came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor—it really feels like good southern comfort cooking. Service was on the slower side, but with how packed the place was, it makes sense and speaks to how popular it is. The desserts are a must-try. The Banana Crème Pie is outstanding, with strawberries, cherries, pineapple chunks, and a vanilla wafer crust that ties it all together. Overall, highly recommend for anyone looking for a hearty, home-style meal and great pie.

We've eaten at this restaurant a couple of times. Everyone seems on their feet. One particular employee stands out. She is very attentive and courteous. She exceeded our expectations. I didn't think there are any sitting restaurant has a kind of employee like her. She is very helpful to everyone, very friendly & very people person. I believed her name is Anaheet, not sure if that is the correct spelling, pardon me if I had it down incorrectly. Eating establishments should employ many like Anaheet. We will sure recommend the place to our families & friends, and will continue to go back at this place in Independence.

The food was okay. I asked for the open-faced turkey sandwich, and my brother ordered the Corner Melt. The food arrived cold. The Turkey sandwich was tasteless--it tasted like a frozen turkey sandwich that had not been fully warmed up. The Corner melt was ok, but it was also cold. When we arrived, the hostess was missing from her station. I later found her sitting with another employee in the first booth on the right. Once I found her, she got us seated. The service was poor. Jason, our waiter, never asked us if we needed more drinks. We had to ask the manager for more water, coffee, and a check. As a long-time resident of Kansas City, this was not the Corner Cafe I remembered. I am disappointed with how my visit went. The only person who tried to make it more enjoyable was the manager. He found our server, refilled our drinks, and gave us our check. I spent $30.76 on dinner for two, and because of the poor service we received from the hostess and the waiter, I will not be back!

4 stars means will rerun cuz was so good! A chorizo omelette was tasty and not too hot. We split it and the homemade cinnamon roll. Was perfect. Coffee was good and they have French vanilla for those who love creamer with a little coffee! A nice place to eat when in town to see the Royals!

This place is very spacious and roomy. People were super friendly. But the best part was getting to sit in the silo. I may be 52 but felt like a kid getting to sit in there. If you want a cinnamon roll or sticky bun be prepared for a huge roll and it's super tasty. Everything else is typical breakfast finds, however very flavorful. I my family will be back!!

That's a 3 dollar glass of milk, if you want to call it a glass. Biscuit was cold and hard. 23 dollars for a basic breakfast. Eat somewhere else.

This use to be one of my favorite places to eat, but not now. I went with my gf this past week. It was cold outside so thought soup sounded good. All they had was vegetable beef that day which is one of my favorite soups. They sat the bowl down and grease was floating on the top, not a good sign. Very few vegetables but lots of beef with fat on it. I ate one carrot, one potato and one piece of the leanest beef I could find. Heavens was I sick if I had been a child I would have vomited in the bowl. I did keep it down but the soup is not worth $7 even with a huge roll. The nice thing is the waitress offered me something else but I was too sick to eat. So they didn't charge me which was a pleasant surprise. Not sure if I will ever go back.

We arrived at 8:20 and they close at 9:00 typically most restaurants would be dropping not so subtle hints to hurry up but not our waitress she kept refilling our drinks and gave us excellent service. Next was the food, we shared the onion rings as an appetizer and the breading was amazing and they were perfectly crunchy on the outside. We ordered the meatloaf sandwich, waffles and a slice of coconut cream pie. All together Corner Cafe checked off my three boxes for a restaurant great food, great service and great prices. I would definitely go back and if you haven't been I'd suggest going.

Kicked off breakfast with coconut cream pie. Why wait have the pie! Finished with biscuits and gravy. The pie is so rich and creamy it's hard to believe. I always start with pie at Corner Cafe. Mainly eat breakfast here but who says chicken fried chicken isn't good at 7:30 am. Last time here it worked just fine. This time others in our party had omelettes, pancakes, bacon and hash browns. No complaints when the food is this good. As usual the parking lot and restaurant were packed. Somehow our server kept up with all our needs. The kitchen also had every order correct. Good job. Inside looks like an old time cafe with old signs and even an Indian brand motorcycle. Take the family, everyone can have what they want and will be sure to enjoy it.

We had a wonderful breakfast here. Both the food and service were great. Started with some coffee and ordered quickly. Our food arrived fast. I got eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, with a side order of gravy. It was enough gravy for three of us to share. Everyone's eggs were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the hash browns. My wife got the corned beef hash with eggs. She loved the hash. Our friend got eggs and bacon with grits and cheese. She enjoyed the grits. They give you a lot of food. Has kind of the old diner feel to the place.

Perfection. Huge servings, delicious, homestyle food. Amazing breakfast and lunch. Service is always solid. Vibes are country / farm without being too schticky. One of our favorite places.

The food here was absolutely amazing. I wasn't sure what to expect, but wow. And the pies are homemade and easily the best pie I've ever had. Not even joking

Mixed reviews. Our large party was seated quickly on a Saturday morning, which was great. The food--especially the cinnamon rolls--was great. Service was not great. Coffee not refilled, water glasses empty which was especially irritating since it was literally 60 minutes before our food came. Yikes. Manager tried to make it up to us but we were late to our game. Might try takeout next time and avoid the service.

Food was really good. Price was fair in my opinion. Wait staff was fast, friendly and checked on the table frequently. Lots of tables and well lit.

Very busy in an early Sunday afternoon, but the wait wasn't too long. Only about 20 minutes at most, which considering the number of people in the lobby you would have thought it'd be longer. Our server was great, prompt, and attentive. I'm always pleased to be blessed with a server who cares. She kept our waters refilled and asked each visit if there was something else we might need. Now let's get to the food. The cinnamon roll was the highlight of our visit. It was fresh out of the oven, plenty of icing. Delightful !! As for the pancakes, they were standard as well as the syrup. I chose to order a couple of chicken tenders (not pictured) to accompany them but didn't get the taste I was hoping for. Wanted the sweet and savory from the pancakes and the crunch and salty from the chicken. However, the chicken had a slight crunch but no seasoning. I would definitely go back but will try other menu items in addition to another cinnamon roll Please!!

I've patronized Corner Cafe' since there was only one in Riverside. Now, there are several around the city. Back in the day the restaurant used to serve wonderful, tasty dishes. Sad to say, all of the visits within the past year have been lousy, but the service at the Independence location makes up for the poor food quality/taste. The ambiance of my most recent trip was fine. There were plenty of customers and it was an all around pleasant atmosphere to dine in. This too made up for them dropping the ball for dinner. I've given more than one location a chance on more than one occasion so I'm resting my case with them. It's just time. Some things are for a reason, season or lifetime. You have to know when your time is up. In this case it's Arrivederci!

We got sat pretty instantly. The food came, almost instantly, as well. Hubs loved his French Toast Combo. We also ordered the fairly large Cinnamon Roll (Togo). I had the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. The Chicken Fried Steak had tons of chewy pieces . I had to spit them out. 5-10 mins after receiving the food, the server literally placed our check on the table. That just rubbed me the wrong way. Restaurant wasn't as busy so I was curious as why the rush.

Bryanna is the Best Server! Ask for her if she's available! She will take great care of you and your family/ friends. I come often for lunch the food is always delicious.

We picked this restaurant on a whim and it was excellent. Lisa was our server and she was busting her butt and did an EXCELLENT job! Best waitress we have had in ages. I don't like breakfast out, but the food was excellent too. Wished we had a Corner Cafe in St. Louis. Highly recommend.

I honestly would have to say that 98% of the food offered at the Corner Cafe is excellent. No restaurant can be excellent at everything, however. The one total downfall at this restaurant is the "chicken noodle soup." I don't like long reviews, so here is mine on this soup: Bland, all noodle (very little broth), and essentially, NO chicken. YUK!! My advice is to get chicken noodle soup at Strouds. Far and away the best in the city!!

I just visited corner cafe today and have never been so disappointed. A place I used to love has turned down hill! The prices have skyrocketed (we were looking at a $50 tab for a breakfast for 2), the portions were embarrassing, the service was terrible and very unfriendly, the atmosphere of the place was off, and the booths are barely functional anymore. I am extremely disappointed. Would never recommend.

Food is always good hometown food. Waiting can get a little long. Great atmosphere. it's getting a little pricey.

We always get good service here. Had the meatloaf last time. I usually get the burger steak. CC gotta work on that bland "sweet" tea. Otherwise, always a pleasant experience.

Good family style food and nice staff. Draws a big crowd. Nick nacks on sale in the front if you have to wait for a table. Lots of older patrons who appreciate homestyle food.

Love it. Dependable food and service. Menu is a bit boring, restaurant itself could use some maintenance work, benches and chairs are on their last leg.

Great service. Drinks are not included with child meals. Sides are not included in burger/entree prices. Not a lot of fries for extra side price $3.50. Cookies given at the end were a pleasant and appreciative surprise. Food was good. Left full. Would like to come back and try some of their pies!

Great food, service and nice dining experience! They have great rolls andbb B pies!! The prices are a little high so we don't go as often as we used to.

We had wonderful Corner Melts made to order on marbled rye with carmelized onions and two kinds of cheese. Delicious! Also, highly recommend their waffle fries and their homemade cinnamon rolls that are as big as your head!

I don't know about any of their other food, but the cinnamon roll was really great. It truly was memorable. I will be returning every time I pass through Independence.

Dirty to the max. Most of the staff look despondent, the hostess looks ready to burst into tears at any second. The food is served in large portions but is very bland. I had chicken and noodles that was flavorless. Pork chops were reported as sub-standard. The biscuits were very good and If I am to be fair, our waitress, Cheyenne was prompt, cheerful and basically the opposite of the rest of the staff.

Is there anything more tantalizing than walking into a restaurant and being greeted by the gigantic pastry case? I certainly don't think so! The hardest part of eating at Corner Cafe is deciding what's for dessert! This visit I actually stopped in for breakfast. That didn't stop me from ordering the sticky bun. It's HUGE - as in enough for two. It's a giant ball of cinnamon/sugar goodness covered in delicious sticky caramel sauce and topped with pecans. You should really try one.

Needs a decent manager.. place is grimy .. there is no reason for such a busy restaurant to be so dirty.. the family that owns this group.. needs to honestly look at the banged up and gummed up woodwork just filth ... floor under the pie counter is caked with dirt .. you can see it sitting down on the bench...wall are damaged from sloppy seasonal decoration and tape residue .. actually the whole place needs painting -touch up... Staff congregates way to much around the waitress stations.. instead of attending there clients. Front entry is neither well attended or inviting . First appearance is everything.. door is still broken after a month

Great country fried steak with all the sides for $20, great friendly service. Had banana cream pie, it was okay.

Arrived before the Sunday crowd. Quick with the coffee! 25+ minute wait for my country fried steak breakfast. During the wait, noticed no one had any type of hair restraint either on the floor or in the open kitchen! The food was good once I got it! The restaurant is clean. The restaurant was getting very busy as I left.

Super nice server! Outstanding food! Our 10 year old grandson said "this place is 10/10!"

Corner cafe is one of our favorites, but not five stars with this visit. Service was excellent, water glasses were kept filled and short wait time for food even though the place was packed. Pot roast/potatoes were good but warm and not the usual hot meal. Hoping this was a fluke and will continue supporting this business. Prices are in-line with competing diners.

This is a country cookin restaurant close to Kansas City. We are here after the KC Chiefs game. The place was clean. The food was good...homemade. I could of used a bit more spice on my chicken...but I like a spicy chicken. This was good...just no real spice and that's ok. Potatoes was homemade and so was the roll. The onion rings were also homemade and delicious. The peach cobbler was ok, and the banana split cake was excellent! Decent price and great service!! I give them a "B". Enjoy

Ordered the Corner Special ( 2 pancakes, egg, sausage patty) and a side of bacon. Pancakes were horrible, everything else just so so. I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Always a good choice, good food and selections and service. The cinnamon rolls are huge and amazing. They also have a very cool early 1900's Indian motorcycle on display

Being out of town and super limited on time, Corner Cafe was about our fourth attempt at finding a place to eat with no wait time. I wish we would've stopped here first. The service was fast and very friendly, the food was excellent - fresh and so tasty! In fact, it was so good we plan to stop by for breakfast this morning before we head home!!

The best comfort food. Cheerful service. The ambiance matches the menu. We try to go here whenever we are in Indepencence.

Not the quality as previous experiences. We had the Fried chicken dinner and two Chicken fried chicken dinners. The fried chicken looked and tasted like it could have been cooked earlier and then re-fried?? or maybe it sat under the warmer too long?? The wing I had was very dark and greasy. The other entree's were ok, none of our food seemed to be fresh hot. Even the dinner rolls (which in the past were hot, light and fluffy) were dense and lukewarm. The food was not horrible, but definitely not up to the quality like before. There was one redeeming quality and that was the Cinnamon rolls. They were big and warm and fresh and very tasty with the icing.

SO dissappointed in the pie order we picked up for Christmas. Will never make this mistake again. One out of 3 pies were edible. The website offered curbside pickup, the receipt said Curbside pickup order but instead you had to go inside, stand in line and wait for them to put the order together and tjen be checked out, even tho I paid online and the money had already been deducted. Hope their food quality isn't getting bad as well..

First stop in Missouri and I was impressed by the great service Lisa gave me, always checking in and asking if everything was good. The chicken was juicy and the macaroni and cheese was great. And to finish I had a Banana split pie which was amazing, if I lived in the area I would definitely return

Great omelettes! I always go for an omelette and cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll is huge and served warm, easily for two or three people to try. Not too hard on pocket book too!

Great place for a home cooked meal. Portions are large. Wait staff is friendly. Would definitely eat there again.
