In a fit of nostalgia for Lexington, I decided to do a throwback review from when we lived there before Anchorage. There haven't been new reviews for a while. Since I don't live around there anymore, I don't know if it's still open. I sure hope so!
Corner wine opened up several months before we ventured in (in a rush to grab a wine for a friend's party). I had stayed away because I thought small wine store = large wine prices. When I learned Gary specialized in very good ten dollar bottles, I was filled at once with joy and regret (for having waited so long). This became our almost exclusive wine shop.
I'm so pleased to see so many positive reviews of this place! They are all correct. Gary is awesome, one of the most amusing, helpful, and well-informed wine sellers I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Tell him what you're into--dry? fruity? whites?--and he'll help you find new varietals to try or good classics to return to. As I'm very wine-curious, I enjoy being turned on to new stuff. I had my first Albarino, Grenache, and Vigonier here. He helped me become the wine-crazed person I am today.
I appreciated that he always had a few chilled bottles on hand (especially when my tastes began to open to sparkling wines)--again, great for a last-minute party pickup. He even offers some other alcohol choices, including the absolutely necessary bourbon options.
Thanks for being great, Gary, and I hope the business is still going strong.
