Google
Amazing beach! We went on a Saturday around 5pm and it was still so open and free. Plenty of space and super clean! Watching the sunset here was definitely worth it! Tons of friendly dogs off leash and everyone is respectful! Also tons of cleaning stations to wash the sand off your feet! And clean your pups!

Margie G.

Google
Beautiful beach. They maintain it very clean. Parking can be difficult, but worth the visit. Visited a few beaches in San Diego and I know technically this is not San Diego, but by far my favorite. Best part, you may see a fighter jet or 2.

Yesenia L.

Google
Love this dog beach! It's very safe, always friendly dog owners. I keep my greyhound on leash because she's a rescue, but I've never had any problems with the dogs off leash or their owners. I like that there's only one way in and the other end is fenced off.

Jennifer Balanay, Realtor (San Diego L.

Google
It’s the cleanest, best dog beach in all of California. I’ve been to many, but few feel as magical as this place. The sunshine, the weather, and the friendly dogs make it truly special. Like any great spot, though, there can be some obstacles—so I’d recommend checking the water quality before heading out.

Google
I love to go to this dog beach. It never seems to be overcrowded and you have such a variety of dogs and humans! I take my Great Dane to this beach but I keep put on a leash because her size is so big that it will intimidate people. She is so funny. She hops the little waves. The beach is clean and people seem to pick up after their dog. A great place to visit with your dog if you want to have an enjoyable afternoon.

Google
Happy dog, happy owner. The speech has a nice Sandy plateau for us to kick back and watch the dogs play to their hearts content. There are soft waves if you'd like to swim yourself but most of the people at the beach let their dogs do the swimming. On this particular day several people were stung by stingrays so study up and do what it takes to avoid their nasty barbs.

Tracy T.

Google
The dog beach was great except I was worried about my dog being in contaminated water... they said it wasn't. But... either way she had a ball! It has been a year since she she was at the beach and she took off like crazy once I let her off her leash and didn't stop!! She was in heaven! I was just a bit chilly.. being from AZ...72 is chilly! Google
Haven't been here since a teenager, now coming back to visit the family. It helps me create memories and pass it along to my kids. This is one of the finest beach San Diego has to offer.

Yelp
This Beach is awesome people and Dogs are friendly. We spent three hours one day and came back again because we had so much fun

Yelp
Almost any dog lover in San Diego will tell you to go to Coronado dog beach. I've been here quite a few times with my trusty Great Dane - Styles (RIP). This particular day I wanted to catch the sunset. I want you to know Google lied to me. It really isn't a crazy view with the sunset. Is also a nice place to have a picnic or gathering on the park behind the beach. It's mellow despite the amount of people in, out & around the area.

Yelp
I hadn't been to this beach in a few years but I'm glad we decided to revisit this spot today. Since last time I came they have put in a rubberized path going from the street all the way down to the beach. This was an amazing addition, no more burning feet and paws that long walk down to the beach. It's not a massive beach but it was plenty large enough on a Friday afternoon where everyone wasn't on top of each other and all the dogs seemed to be well behaved and having a great time. Parking can be tricky you just have to drive until you find something there is no lot. Restrooms are located a bit further down closer to the human beach so stop in before you head down. If you're disturbed by low flying planes maybe try another location, this is just outside the air base and there's choppers and planes flying over fairly frequently. Overall I'm glad I came back to Coronado and am so happy about the new path, no more carrying dogs, chairs, bags, etc all the way to the sand, the dog can walk now. Next time I'll bring my wagon instead of lugging all my junk down there. Woohoo!

Yelp
Who doesn't like the beach?! It's why we live in San Diego! It's close to the naval base and parking can be tough in the summer. And you get to meet all shapes, sizes, and breeds at this park. Nothing is more amusing than a Great Dane and Saint Bernard chasing each other. Great place to throw the ball or frisbee. Arthur says that the people here are really nice too.
google avatar

Ally G.

Yelp
This is my favorite dog beach!! It's so clean and far from the main road so I don't have to worry about my dog running off. There's street parking in the neighborhood and around the park across the street. There's even bathrooms nearby! (Haven't used them but they do exist.) My dog loves it here and is always so excited to be back.
google avatar

Eva W.

Yelp
A great place to take your dogs for some fun and companionship with other canines. My dachshund is getting up there in age. She enjoyed the walk and all the wonderful comments, "She is so cute". I appreciated all of them.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Such a fun park! My dog had such a great time. And there is a hose to clean your pup off when you leave. Definitely a place to spend the day with chairs, and blankets while your pup has a ball.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Amazing place to take your doggies for some exercise and social interaction! Beach is clean and everyone was very nice. Will be back.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
San Diego has gotta be the most dog friendly city in the USA!! With all the dog beaches in SD, the Coronado dog beach is probably the cleanest and biggest.
google avatar

Fred T.

Yelp
So at the end of the main beach in Coronado is the dog beach. As the name suggests its where you dogs can run to their hearts content. There is a nice walkway out to the beach from the street and a spot to rinse your best friend off after romping in the sand and surf. There are little in the way of amenities and parking can be tight. However, the views are spectacular and why was I there despite not owning a dog? It is a fantastic place to plane spot as its on the approach to the Naval Air Station.
google avatar

Kris G.

Yelp
Nice, fun place to bring your dog to play in the sand and water. I love the fact that if you want to let them run or dig in the sand there is plenty of room. If they want to play in the water, it is gorgeous and a little more congested depending on the day but still accessible. Only downside is, like everything with dogs, not all of the owners are being attentive or have any type of recall with the dogs. With 90% being off leash, sometimes dogs don't get along.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
I'm so impressed with the layout & cleanliness! What's the best part is that everyone seems to get along (as does the dogs, big & small). Wonderful place to let your doggies run free & enjoy the beautiful coastal area. Parking is sometimes tight so you may have to walk a little way to get there but it's worth it!
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
Our favorite dog beach in the area. Chance loves coming and so do I. It's very clean and generally really easy to park. Chance plays with the other dogs and swims in the clean water (pretty shallow for the smaller pups). My favorite part is the dog wash station. Yes there's a hose by the cars and grass so you can quickly wash down your pup after a fun afternoon. Sometimes we even bring shampoo so no bath needed at home!
google avatar

Sue T.

Yelp
We love taking our dog to this beach. People are very good about cleaning up after their pet. I have noticed that some people keep their dogs on leashes if they feel like their dogs may not be compatible. I appreciate that. I like that there is a walkway from the street all the way to the sand. We've had some beautiful evening sunsets with our dog at the beach. We've also had some nice morning walks. When we take Millie to the beach here, it's like taking her dog Disneyland
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
We were excited to bring our dog to a dog beach. Beach is located next to a Navy base. Parking was not so bad on a weekday, but the weekend would be horrible. The beach had a nice walkway with soft white sand. There weren't many dogs at the beaches though. We were able to take a picture of a beautiful sand castle that was built by a engagement proposal. When my wife took our dog near the shore, the security told her he was not allowed to walk there. I was surprised since it was supposed to be a dog beach and we never had any problems with other beaches. Maybe because it was a public beach and you can see securities patrolling everywhere. SO DISAPPOINTING!!!
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Newbies learn the tips and secrets. The entrance you should use with your leashed friend is at the end of the road. There is a long sidewalk almost getting you to the water. The beach is flat and great views. We visited in December so there were not that many dogs, I suppose the beach is packed in warmer times. There is a nearby restroom and a lifeguard station. Good times.p

Yelp
For YEARS... decades even... I have been going to the 'other dog beach' and WHY?!? How did I not know about this amazing slice of heaven? Parking is a bit dicey on holiday weekends and such but if you are willing to walk (and it is good for you!) this place is great. Not too crowded, on the section open to unleashed dogs which is to your right as you are walking towards the ocean it is like doggy heaven but in the sand! The humans seem to pick up after their dogs much better than the other dog beach (score!) and there just seems to be more of a chill vibe with dogs and people alike here. I loved that they had the doggy washing station as you leave the area as well. This is my new go to, when my girls and I are back visiting our hometown from the desert.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
We love Coronado and so happy our little pup has somewhere to watch the waves, sunset and play with other dogs! Beach is clean with an abundance of trash receptacles around the beach. However, parking can be packed later in the afternoon.
google avatar

Rosalie C.

Yelp
Beatiful spot to come watch the sunset with your beloved pup. I came on my vacation (pups at home) just to check it out. The entrance has a water fountain and dog wash. Really like the rubber trailway to the beach, makes the 'long' walk easy. Its really a BEAUTIFUL like absolutely gorgeous spot. Id definitely bring my dog here. The only downfall is that it is not separated by the regular beach by any fence - so make sure your dog knows recall. And its really wavey.... not a great spot for pooches to swim. Definitely worth a visit
google avatar

Anne F.

Yelp
Okay- if we didn't also have Fiesta Island and Del Mar Dog Beach as options this would be five stars. Parking is harder for Coronado Dog Beach so I'd go out of my way to visit either of those two other options before coming here. However- once you get your spot this is a great beach! It's separated by a trench between the "people beach" and the dog beach which is a great natural boundary without it looking clunky/gated. There are stunning views at sunset from this spot and it can get a little crowded. When I've been here I found the owners to not be quite as attentive as I see them at other local parks.
google avatar

Linford E.

Yelp
In my opinion, Coronado is the best beach in San Diego. The sand and water quality are second to none. No surprise why I think Coronado Dog Beach is the best place to take your four legged family. My pup does not like the water but absolutely loves running and chasing in the sand. I feel like the owners are always respectful and responsible for their dogs. I've gone countless of times and have yet to run into aggressive dogs. Great place to bring a young pup looking to socialize for the first time.
google avatar

Liana J.

Yelp
Almond says two paws up for this beach! We come here at least once a month for three years and counting now. Street parking only, but usually can find something within 5 min walk to the beach, even on the weekends. Dogs should be on leash walking up to the beach until the off leash sign. The dog beach entrance is just next to the military base, but there is also a humans only beach. The entrance is not gated, but there's a fence along the rest of the beach. Plenty of room for the doggos to stretch their legs or just sun bath on the toasty sand. Afterwards there's a hose at the entrance to rinse off. There are many trash cans about and the beach is usually kept very clean. Beautiful at sunset with a clear view of the Hotel del Coronado in the background!
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
Nicely spread out. Dog owners maintained positive control of their dogs. We'll kept and clean. We will be returning. Our dogs had a great time!
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
Beautiful!!! and clean. Had no issues with parking coming on a Sunday afternoon. We usually go to the Del Mar beach but parking is difficult there and it is so crowded! Will be coming to the Coronado Dog Beach from now on, it feels like a hidden gem. It is clean and peaceful. Water station with dog bowl AND hose to rinse off your pup after a fun sun day!

Carolyn O.

Yelp
Great place to take dogs for the day. Need to get there early for close parking and good spot on the beach.
google avatar

Javier A.

Yelp
Great place for the dogs and easy access to parking.Park on the street and walk to dog beach access. Suggest taking a cart to carry stuff, it's about 7 minutes walk to beach.
google avatar

Melinda R.

Yelp
We came to San Diego with our two dogs. I wanted them to run around and enjoy themselves and what better place to do that in San Diego but to find a dog beach park. This was so much fun, there were a lot of dogs, it's clean and enjoyable. The beach park is pretty large, really focused on the many dog lovers around. My dogs loved meeting new people and they enjoyed being outside instead of being cooped up in the car or our hotel room. They had plenty of parking and areas to wash your dogs and plenty of garbage bags and garbage cans, so no reason to not pick up your dogs poop!
google avatar

Joseph E.

Yelp
This is definitely Karen and Kevin central. On several occasions my friends and i have been harassed by the locals nitpicking and watching everything we do on this beach. I didn't know that walking my pup in the water while attempting to play with other dogs would be triggering to some people. I completely felt unwelcomed and would never recommend this beach to any person of color with a dog.
google avatar

Ruth W.

Yelp
I ADORE this beach. I could sit down and just watch the sun, waves, and the multitudes of dogs frolic and catch a ball or frisbee. Because of places like this, my "child", Micky, all 4 1/2 years of him, can enjoy a world that is blue sky, grey sand, and playful waves--a far cry from city pavement and the day-to-day drudgery of his Mom working 9-6 (but it's the daily work that affords nice trips like this!). The saying is true for me at least--I work hard so my dog can live the best life LoL Coronado is such a magnificent town. I can't stand the traffic and the narrow streets. But small sacrifice for one of the best, if not the best doggie beaches in San Diego.
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
The pup loves this beach, as do I. There is a walkway that almost reaches the shore, plenty of potty bag dispensers and trash cans, one with faucets and a hose at the entry/exit to wash off the sand. The sand is groomed and leash is optional. We had a great experience each time, as all the owners made sure their dogs respected others and everyone was very friendly. It warmed my heard to see my dog run around in the sand, play in the water, and socialize with the others.
google avatar

Fernanda M.

Yelp
Wow!!! I was really amazed by this dog beach!! I took my pup there and I was thinking the Beach would probably be disgusting since it was a dog beach. But the beach is sooo clean! There's so much sand for the dogs do play around and the part of the ocean is shallow so the dogs can get inside without having to actually swim! My dog completely loved it and I took him every day when I was staying in San Diego. Definitely recommend!!! It's super safe and everyone is friendly!
google avatar

Cameron Y.

Yelp
We took our Frenchie to the beach for the first time over memorial day weekend. Of course the beach was packed and it was a miracle we could find close parking but it was a fun outing overall. However, our dog did get an eye infection after the beach, not sure if that was due to the water or being around other dogs or both. We kept him on a leash but the vast majority of dogs were off leash and, to my surprise, most of the dogs were all getting along. There is also a hose to wash down your feet and dog at the entrance area to the beach, which is all the way down by the naval base.
google avatar

Yelp
Sitting here with Blicksy boy as we speak and I am asking him for his honest opinion.....its a 5 out of 5 for me mate' woof woof! Thaaaataaaaa BOY! Comin' in hot with this review: Dog park review #7 - ITS THA CORONADO BEACH FURRR MEEEE LOCATION: who doesn't wanna be around million dollar homes, beautiful weather, clean streets, friendly people and best part...its at the end of the cul-de-sac. If you have hit the dead end NAVAL BASE, my friend you have arrived to your destination. Walk down that grey magic rolled out carpet that goes about 30 feet to thee beach and waaaalah! DOG BEACH begins PARKING: The only part about this dog park that broke my big golden heart. We parked 0.5 mile away, as I told my man.....If we park further then that, I am out mister. We had to drive around and around the neighborhood tryin' to get LUCKY ya feel me. Then thank god he knows how to parallel park. booms we then walked about 1 mile total until we hit the water. It was a a work-out but whatevahs what can ya do. SIZE: Oh wow, the size is HUGE tons of sand, tons of ocean, tons of space dedicated to DOGS. Not only that, hundreds of people gather on the sand portion with blankets, coolers, umbrellas, etc. Its almost like a public human beach but NOT, make sense. CLEANLINESS: Does not apply to this place just because it was as clean as a beach can be. We all know the sand will always have tiny little critters and people pee in the ocean water and just ya lol. They do offer doggie poopie bags at the beginning entrance. DOG POPULATION: ALL DOGS ARE WELCOME. I would say the majority of dogs 80% are those fluffy small lookin dogs...I think they are called like yorkies? idk lol. Then there some big bubba's, here and there and the remaining 20% are medium cutie pies. SEATING: NO SEATING but feel free to bring a chair, umbrella, blanket, or towel. We walked up and down the water thee entire time so we did not plan on sitting down and I do not think we would, gotta get those steps in! SHADE: non-existent, at the beach playa.... MORAL OF THE STORY: This is one of my favorite San Diego Dog Play areas. When arriving you will see its like a dog party beach extravaganza!!! Literally 100's running free in the wind, getting their feet wet and playing in the sand.

Yelp
While dog sitting for some friends while they were away on overseas travel, I took the pup to most of the major dog beaches/parks in the SD area. I would have to say despite the distance, Coronado Dog Beach was my favorite of the bunch. It had the best sand, best surf, best views, and the best looking owners... hahaha. There was a lot of space for the canines to run around both on the beach and in the water. It does get very breezy here so if you come late in the day, you may want to bundle up. I do agree that this was one of the cleaner off-leash spaces as I didn't encounter any landmines. The posted rules were clear, but it did seem strange that a leash must be attached to the pooch while walking from the sidewalk to almost the lifeguard station. I rated this place 4.5 stars with the half demerit for the parking situation which can be a hassle. If you can't find a curbside spot around the cul de sac, then you may have to go to a nearby residential street to get a space there and walk over.

Yelp
Perfect clean dog beach. Dogs had a blast & ran like crazy. Fun to watch all the aircraft from the nearby military base
google avatar

Krista S.

Yelp
The best !!!!! Street parking , hose to wash off sand, bathrooms nearby, beautiful scenery, lots of great pups. Always a great day here :))
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
This dog beach is awesome!! There weren't too many dogs but we went on a colder day...My dog & I loved it!
google avatar

Jean-Charles N.

Yelp
This is a great place to bring your dog. People are very friendly and dogs really enjoy it.
google avatar

Richard A.

Yelp
I love the beach. Great water. Great dogs. Great crowd and people. Fantastically busy beach with a good vibe. You will have to hike which just builds the anticipation in the pups but they are there to have a good time and they absolutely do. I loved the water, the happy dogs. Engaged owners with their dogs. Just good vibes. Doesn't hurt that there's a military base with armored vehicle to keep everyone honest. Haha.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This is one place we go to bring our dogs out for a fun day. They get to see and meet all kinds of dogs from small breed to large breeds. They have so much fun running along the beach next to me or with some other dogs. The beach is close to neighboring houses in Coronado. It is also located just outside the Naval Air Station.
google avatar

Roger D.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place to bring the dogs when in San Diego, Coronado specifically! All the way down by the Navy base, I've never seen a place where plenty of dogs are just living that Daygo life with their owners. Great way to lounge at the beach & get your pup some much-needed rest & recovery after getting all their energy out in the sun.
google avatar

Tracie M.

Yelp
Parking can be challenging on weekends and during the summer but overall this is a phenomenal dog beach. It's clean, most of the dogs are friendly and most of the owners are responsible about their dog's behavior and also about cleaning up after their dogs. You can walk as far north as the border with North Island. Clean and safe.
google avatar

Manda Bear B.

Yelp
As good as it gets for your pooch, Nugget Bear didn't like the wave, get second time at the beach. She loves the sand and next thing you know, her face, mouth, tongue were full of sand. She didn't like it then. She got to meet other dogs, leash free beach so many of them running wild... Nugget is smaller so we kept her on Leah, worry about other big dogs... There is waterhole to clean your pooch. Not enough parking here even on a weekday... It's the most popular dog beach spot in San Diego. Right next to the Naval base, so you got to see a lot of planes flying over.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
First timer and I absolutely can't want to go again!! The dog beach is located at the far evee where the Naval base starts and it's a short walk to the water. Lots of open space and friendly pups and their families. I saw a lot of responsible dog owners pick up after their babies and if they were playing fetch it was away from other people so the possibility of getting hit by a ball or frisbee was super low. Most of the dogs were soooo friendly and would come sit to get pets, it was just a joyful and heartwarming experience!
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place exists. it's very cleaned and well maintained! Parking might be a bit off a problem especially on the weekends but it's manageable. this beach is one of not so many that allow off leash play. Now,that we moved out of the area we drive back at least once a month all the way from Riverside county.
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Wonderful dog beach! There's a walkway to get to the water so your feet don't get too hot on the sand! It's right next to the Navy base so there's always a bunch of planes landing, but it's fun to watch them while your dog runs around. Compared to other dog beaches, this place has a human-vibe... meaning there are a lot of humans here enjoying the beach all day (with food, tents, umbrellas, etc) and they just have happened to bring their dog! At some of the other dog beaches I go to, I tend to come and go within 45min-hour. This place, I come and stay for a few hours. The parking is a little complicated in the neighborhood next door, but you'll get the hang of it after a couple visits.

Kimberly H.

Yelp
We took our dogs to see the ocean for the first time and this beach did not disappoint! Owners were friendly and considerate and the grounds were very clean. Seeing the fur babies romp around and play fetch in the ocean without a leash was priceless.
google avatar

Dulce_ M.

Yelp
Took our 2 year old Corgi here today, I'm impressed of how clean it was. Parking is difficult, we got lucky to find a spot on the side because one is leaving the park. Plenty of dogs out here, I loved that everyone is kind of doing their own thing. In addition, parking is far where the dog beach is located at. A bit of a walk before you reach the water. But once you get there, lovely water. Lovely dogs playing and enjoying the water. Beautiful dog beach!!!!!
