The Best Affordable Hotels in Rome

"With many of Rome’s hotels run by conglomerates, Corso 281 stands out for its personalized, one-to-one approach. Owner and former lawyer Natalino Gisonna is at the hotel daily and runs everything directly, from managing all hotel requests to offering a tailored concierge service that effectively involves him recommending the kind of off-the-radar places only locals know about. Gisonna has loved hotels from a young age—hence the career change—and is big on guest relations, so his staff are some of the friendliest imaginable. No request is too much for Gisonna’s team and they’ll happily use their pull around town to make sure you get the best Roman experience possible, whether that means getting exclusive early access into the Vatican, getting you that table at the exclusive Roman restaurant that’s been booked out for months, or even arranging a helicopter day trip to Capri." - Maresa Manara

Corso 281

"Why book? A smart 18th century palazzo on Rome’s bustling Via del Corso, where breakfast in bed is standard and the staff make you feel right at home Set the scene As far as locations go, they don’t come much better than Corso 281, right in the thick of it on Rome’s iconic shopping thoroughfare, Via del Corso. Turn left and you’ll head towards Piazza Venezia, and all of Rome’s ancient archeological historic sites; turn right and you’ll soon find yourself strolling by the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Via del Corso one of Rome’s most popular (and busiest) shopping streets, drawing a mixed crowd of international tourists, Italian teenagers out for the day with friends, and local families enjoying a daily passeggiata stroll. The backstory With many of Rome’s hotels run by conglomerates, Corso 281 stands out for its personalized, one-to-one approach. Owner and former lawyer Natalino Gisonna is at the hotel daily and runs everything directly, from managing all hotel requests to offering a tailored concierge service that effectively involves him recommending the kind of off-the-radar places only locals know about. Gisonna has loved hotels from a young age – hence the career change – and is big on guest relations, so his staff are some of the friendliest imaginable. No request is too much for Gisonna’s team and they’ll happily use their pull around town to make sure you get the best Roman experience possible, whether that means getting exclusive early access into the Vatican, getting you that table at the exclusive Roman restaurant that’s been booked out for months, or even arranging a helicopter day trip to Capri. The rooms There are 12 luxury suites spread over four floors, all designed by Milanese architect Chiara Caberlon. The décor is minimalist with a beige, black and white colour-scheme, while furnishings tend to feature lots of sharp angles (hardwood flooring, Carrara marble). Yet, somehow, it works. Maybe it’s the fact that the personalised approach continues in the rooms; guests can choose their preferred pillow and mattress type, as well as the champagne they’d like in their mini bar. Bathrooms are big, with rainshowers, soft robes and Bulgari soaps. All rooms are family-friendly – even the smallest Deluxe Room has a King bed and a double pull-out bed. Smaller rooms overlook the internal courtyard, while the bigger suites come with spacious balconies and views over Rome. Food and drink There’s no on-site restaurant per-se, but an excellent breakfast, made to your requests, is served in your room daily and you can also request private in-suite dinners catered by your own personal chef. The hotel’s basement – a former bank vault – is decked out like a private salon, with hard cover design bibles and a liquor cabinet stocked with over 200 exclusive and rare vintages. For families Despite its sleek, magazine-worthy décor (where you might be worried about grubby mits touching the immaculate walls) Corso 281 love children. All kids get their very own welcome kit, complete with a teddy, slippers and toy. Children under the age of 3 stay for free. Accessibility The property has one accessible room." - Maresa Manara

Corso 281 Luxury Suites (Rome, Lazio) 20 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sometimes the name more or less says it all. Corso 281 Luxury Suites stands on the Via del Corso, nearly all the way to the Piazza Venezia end, which means it’s right in the thick of things, from a sightseeing perspective, with the Trevi Fountain, the Forum and the Colosseum all a short stroll away. Meanwhile, inside, they promise luxury suites, and it’s luxury suites they deliver: twelve of them, all kitted out in the sort of crisp contemporary style that’s perfectly suited to Rome’s eclectic, era-spanning visual history." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay at this hotel was exceptional. Sarah at check-in was incredibly helpful. They were able to accommodate our early arrival, and we relaxed in a lovely lounge while our room was prepared. As soon as it was ready, Sarah personally came to get us, making the entire process quick and effortless.||The room was beautiful, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location was perfect—everything we needed was within walking distance. And whenever we needed a taxi, the front desk called one for us, and it arrived within minutes.||We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

This hotel is top notch. I had the most restful sleep here of any hotel in my travels. The rooms are like a sanctuary. Many of the top attractions in Rome are within walking distance. Last but certainly not least the staff here are absolute professionals and really made this place a five star stay.

Family of three adults. We stayed for 5 nights. Our stay at this hotel was exceptional. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and our luxury suite was spotless, smelled fresh, and was cleaned daily. The delicious breakfast, served punctually in our room each morning, was a perfect start to the day. The hotel's location is fantastic, with plenty of restaurants, shops, and “gelaterías” within easy walking distance. We would absolutely stay here again and wholeheartedly recommend it.

Corso 281 - Rome |Tucked behind a large door on via del Corso lies Corso 281 , a beautiful collection of suite - more like a private home. Friendly , happy and welcoming staff greet you and process the check in - in a very relaxed and personal manner. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, typically Italian design with style and class , Bvlgari bathroom products , small mini bar , coffee maker and microwave make it like a small apartment style room . Large king bed , soft pillows , fluffy large white towels add luxury to the stay . As this is an all suite hotel - breakfast is a la carte and served in your room - ordered the night prior it’s delivered promptly at your desired time . There is a small lounge and honesty bar in the basement that offers everything from instructions on how to make a negroni to a glass of prosecco. Located in the middle of via el Corse- th hotel is an ideal base to explore Rome on foot . A 5 minute walk to Trevi , a 13 minute walk to the Spanish Steps , 10 minute walk to Monti - everything is at your doorstep. Understated luxury in the centre of Rome .

The location is unbeatable especially for first time visitors to Rome, it’s just a few minutes walk to the essential attractions like Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. The rooms are gorgeous and well-designed. We loved the little balcony overlooking the street. The room service breakfast was hearty and well-prepared. We’ll never forget how warm and helpful the staff are, from the concierge to the room service personnel.

My fiancé and I had an incredible stay at Corso 281. The location is amazing, so close to the major sights. The rooms are very clean, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Complimentary water and treats were such a nice touch. The Bvlgari toiletries smelled amazing and the bed was the most comfortable one we had during our time in Italy. I’ll definitely be staying here again next time I’m in Rome!

Yelp
Corso 281 is a hotel in Rome, Italy, and it was amazing in every way. From location, to room, to service, we felt incredibly taken care of from the moment we arrived. Getting to the hotel from the train station was chaotic, but we felt a huge sense of relief when we got to Corso 281 as there was an influx of tourists on the streets. As we entered the lobby, it was very small, and there were a couple of seats and a tiny desk to check in. Our room wasn't ready to be checked in, but we were able to wait in their bottom floor where we grabbed some snacks and played tic-tac-toe! When our room was ready, we were called up to our room. As soon as we entered, I knew it would be a nice stay. The shower was incredible, and the beds were very comfortable. Our room came with breakfast in bed every morning. We ordered everything from cappuccinos, cereals, pear juice, pastries, yogurts, and more. I loved everything about it. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of all major landmarks from the Colosseum, Vatican City, and multiple restaurants. Of course, you can also take buses, but there is construction across the entire city, and it can be very overwhelming. Rome is over-flooded with tourists, so I really appreciated our little oasis (Corso 281) inside the ridiculousness. I would absolutely recommend getting a hotel room here if you want a nice experience in Rome!

Yelp
Please read this: The only good thing here is the "location"; with that comes incredible loud street noise + 15 bus routes all day/night, both directions, so bring earplugs. WI-FI was so slow we used our hotspot. English tv stations not working, room so cramped no adequate storage space & when we checked in the elevator was out of service! We love planning travels through Tripadvisors .. excited that the 2nd highest rated pizza place on TripAdvisor is 2 blocks form hotel only to be told by the staff: No - Tripadvisor is horrible when it comes to reviews in Rome. They recommended Emma Pizza, the place had plenty of empty tables .. overpriced & service reviewed so poorly online, it should have been our first clue. I wonder hotel gets a kickback. Junior suites as of May 2019 cost in excess of $600/night; the included breakfast is worthless with cold eggs & pancakes. This suite was on the 2nd floor, close to the lobby & you hear everything happening at the front desk. It isn't comforting when the guests next door hear you complaining only to come out and say they are so upset about the construction work noise going on outside their suite, they had a child and things were miserable for them. We asked how best to charge our smart devices/laptops when using the 1 wall keycard that you remove from wall each time we leave hotel to save on electric cost .. they recommended we get 2 keycards .. one to take when leaving, the other to keep in wall allowing electricity to be on, so we did. We left our room at 6AM the next day and returned at 4PM to an uncleaned room .. asked why? Were told they had too many rooms to clean that day & they would get to it soon. Asked for the manager, he was not in. 30 minutes later, manager is in lobby getting extremely confrontational with us stating they did not clean our room because our keycard was in wall indicating we were in the room and they respect guest's privacy. WHAT? did you even check with your staff? IT WAS THEIR RECOMMENDATION !!! 27 hours from the time we checked in ... nothing had been done to our room. Excuses excuses .. he did not diffuse the situation .. he made it worse by being so arrogant, defensive, loud, obnoxious & unprofessional . He either hates English people, LGBT people or both. Maurizio Criccomoro you need to learn how to be courteous to your guest particularly when they are requesting 2 clean towels that you were unable to provide but managed to come up with enough excuses ... What an embarrassment to any hospitality industry member ... An apology email was sent from the owner, Natalino Gisonna, + a bottle of sparkling wine .. we did not accept it as it was Sovrana Spumante Montelliana sparkling sugar water that is selling down the street for € 5 as well as online! they charged us more for a bottle of Coke. They have a wine list in the hotel ranging from several hundred to several thousand euros each ... so they must know the quality of these products. Compared to other luxury hotels we experienced on this Italian holiday, this was a major let down. Mr. Natalino Gisonna, please consider sending Maurizio Criccomoroto to a customer courtesy seminar on how to provide decent service to your guests. It is sad to see how terrified his employees are of him. we received an apology from you, your staff, but NOT FROM MAURIZIO. Still waiting ...

Yelp
This hotel is dirty and dishonest. We arrived late to check in one night only to find our room was dirty and the curtains had large holes. We ordered gluten free food via room service, which they said they could accommodate but they served me food with it present anyway. We decided to leave in the morning and checked out. No manager was available and although we tried to reach out multiple times - they insisted on charging us for the whole stay, claiming we didn't check out. I would never stay there again.

Yelp
We spent four nights here during our stay in Rome and enjoyed it very much. The hotel is modern and clean, and has a luxe feel to it compared to many of the other hotels we saw in the area. The staff is friendly and very helpful (the girl at the front desk, I believe her name was Maryam, was very friendly. She greeted us every day with a smile, and gave a lot of good advice on where to go for food, shopping, and sightseeing), and the rooms are quite spacious. The best part about this hotel, though, is the location. We learned on our first day that the street that Corso 281 is on is a main street that branches off to many different sights and monuments. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, The Pantheon, and The Coloseum are all just a short walk off Via del Corso. It makes being a tourist in Rome so much easier!

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Corso in mid-July 2016. Modern and chic boutique hotel with warm and professional service. VERY close to major tourist attractions...see you again the next time we are in Roma!

Yelp
My husband was in touch with Vesna, Chiara, and Roberta way in advance of our stay and from his report, they were extremely helpful, efficient, and communicative. We had some hiccups to our stay but overall they did not detract from our overall impression. The driver we asked for to have an airport pickup did not show up but we were happy to take a cab at a fixed rate with no problem. When we arrived, we were shown into a beautiful suite that was facing the back away from the noisy street which was exactly what we asked for. It was the perfect spot as we had our baby daughter with us who is a light sleeper. Our one complaint with the room was a bunch of strange little flies in the sink of the bathroom when we walked in. The staff was very helpful in cleaning it all up immediately and assuring us that it was from the heat outdoors. They did not reappear for the duration of the stay. The room was cleaned immaculately each day with wonderful Bvlgari products in the bathrooms. We had several reservations that were quickly and easily made by the staff and they were extremely accommodating to the moving target of number of attendees to my birthday dinner. They also presented a delicious strawberry tart on my birthday! Overall, this was a wonderful stay and truly memorable. The location is excellent to buses but a bit further for trains. However, taxis are easily called and come quickly. Will return the next time we are in Rome!

Yelp
Corso 281 is a small (15 rooms ?) luxury hotel in the heart of historical Rome. Well located. Less than 10 minute walk to the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Forum, Campo de' Fiori, and Plazza Navona. Not much further to the Spanish steps and Trevi fountain. No restaurant or bar in the hotel, but there are good restaurants reasonably close, and the Minerva hotel roof garden is a lovely bar about 5 minute walk away; Our room had a separator dividing it into two areas so that for a jet lagged couple, one could sleep and the other munch on pizza or read or whatever. Great bathroom! The shower was beautiful. The staff were all charming and helpful. A nice breakfast was served in the room. The last day, we had to leave for the airport at 5 a.m. Even then they fixed us a nice breakfast. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Excellent property. Great location, beautiful room, super modern, clean, elegant, and extremely responsive front desk staff.
