Corte San Pietro, a Design Boutique Hotel Matera, Italy

"Set inside the Matera Sassi UNESCO site, Corte San Pietro is housed in a renovated historical building carved out of stone. It offers rooms with a private entrance and free Wi-Fi throughout. Featuring an elegant yet primitive style, each room is unique and furnished with hand-carved wood and stone items. All rooms have a view on the internal courtyard, where breakfast is served in summer. Guests at the San Pietro can request to visit an underground system of cisterns probably interconnected during the Second World War. A shuttle service, bike rental and tour desk are also available. Guests can enjoy discounted rates at a nearby partner car park. Matera Train Station is only 1 km away, and a 5-minute walk will take guests to the town cathedral. Set next to the Parco della Murgia Natural Reserve, the property is 50 km from the Ionian Sea." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Absolutely wonderful experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is made up of several cave-houses, which gives you a very unique experience. Our room was very spacious, with a sitting area separate from the bedroom. Another sitting area outside your door on the courtyard is a great place to enjoy a night-cap. Matera has to be seen at night to be appreciated, and the Corte San Pietro hotel is right in the middle of it, providing an excellent experience.

Absolutely incredible stay at Corte San Pietro! From the moment we arrived we fell in love, from the wonderful friendly, helpful service and staff. The cave room was unbelievable! We didn’t want to leave. Breakfast was absolutely stunning with the most fantastic team and live pianists. Amazing stay. 5 star in every way.

We spent 2 nights here and were blown away by this incredible hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff could not have been more accommodating, helping us to settle into our unique room, providing assistance with local restaurants and ensuring all our comforts were met. All of the staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, we will recommend this hotel to our friends and family if they are lucky enough to visit Matera.

Amazing experience- the staff were kind and helpful. The room was perfect- clean, stocked and had such character.|The breakfast spread was so plentiful and made accommodations for my food allergies; there was a man playing piano. Off the breakfast room you can travel down into the Sassi. |The location is perfect and we walked, A TON, everywhere.

Corte San Pietro sure knows how to pamper its visitors, and we enjoyed being spoilt. Beautiful 16th century buildings, including amazing interconnected cisterns underneath the hotel-complex itself, spacious rooms with private bathrooms, a luxurious breakfast with live music, and very kind and professional staff all around. Location is right in the middle of the Sassi areas of Matera, so everything you might want to see is at easy walking distance. Finally, getting there by the perfectly organised shuttle service from the Sant'Isodoro car park was another luxury not to be missed! Thanks to you all for two amazing days!

A nice boutique hotel with friendly staff at a good location with restaurants nearby. We booked two rooms - the room on 2nd floor is good but the one on ground floor smells a bit of mould. Perhaps because it’s inside a cave. Breakfast choice is limited with fruits, toast with tomatoes, and cakes. You can order boiled or scrambled eggs as this is the only hot food they serve. We are fine with that but more as fyi.

We stayed at Corte San Pietro this summer and it was the best decision! The owners, Fernando and his wife, are wonderful and showed us the history of the building before it became a hotel. Every corner is beautifully designed with incredible attention to detail — a dream for interior design lovers. Breakfast was fresh, regional, and delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Corte san Pietro is a beautiful modern hotel in a perfect location near the base of Sasso Caveoso in Matera. Each room in the hotel is unique, and most are located in the old caves ("sassi") that give this section of Matera it's timeless character. But the hotel amenities all are modern and up-to-date. You're literally right across the street from entrances to famous sites such as San Pietro Caveoso, Madonna D'dris, and San Giovanni in Monterrone, and steps away from numerous alleyways and streets leading through the Sasso Caveoso district. Hotel staff are cordial and incredibly attentive. They made us feel very welcome indeed; their introduction to the Sassi district upon arrival is particularly helpful for newcomers. The breakfast was sumptuous Lucanian feast. (Don't miss the ancient cisterns they discovered underneath the property when building the hotel...entrance located in the breakfast area.) All in all, a really magical place. One note on parking: because of its location in the traffic-limited Sassi district, the hotel doesn't have adjacent parking. However, they suggest several local garages; we'd recommend Damasco on Recinto XX Settembre; nice attentive people, and for a small charge they'll shuttle you to the hotel door.
