Food was good, service by waiter was great. The lady that seated us in an empty restaurant wanted to seat us in a dark corner next to another tourist. We asked to please seat in the main dining room next to a window as it was 80% empty and no reservations. A crooked face and got the table. Sad that still today you get this attitude by hospitality persons.

Considering the ratings of this place and the prices we expected to be blown away! However, even though the place was almost empty we had to wait around 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. When the cakes and coffee arrived we were unfortunately very disappointed. We paid €12 for bellow average cakes. Coffee that costs €6 was probably made by automatic coffee machine and definitely tasted like that. We had to wait for some time for someone to come to our table so we could pay and leave. I won’t be coming back and I would not recommend.

We were there twice. Once on the terrace in warm, sunny weather. Beautiful outdoor area with a fantastic view of the Frauenkirche. Menu with an exceptionally interesting and varied selection of dishes and drinks. Very friendly and courteous waiters. The second time we sat inside. Beautiful nostalgic interiors with a palatial atmosphere. Again, excellent food, friendly and professional waiters.

Located in a highly touristy area, the restaurant is designed with an antique charm. Inside, classical music sets a pleasant ambiance, encouraging patrons to linger over their meals. It's advisable to arrive earlier as the kitchen closes around 8 PM. During our visit, we were limited to ordering coffee and cake, both of which were delightful; the coffee was satisfying, and the cake was exceptionally tasty and light. The service was excellent, and the restaurant offers ample seating both indoors and outdoors. English-speaking staff are available, making it highly recommended.

Thank you for the wonderful recommendations, Fr Chartron . The Perch with beans and broccoli was so delicious that I had to finish everything. The white wine too was good. The chocolate mousse too was great tasting even though the cake part was a tad dry (probably cos I took the last piece). Even my little feathered friend found it yummy.

Do not miss, if you have time and sweet tooth or even a hunger ! Our tradition for each Christmas: wonderful cakes, a lot of different kinds, wide range of teas and coffee drinks. This time also something savoury and also the well done. Nice sitting, enough places, Christmas decorations… looking forward next visit.

I don’t understand the hype and the rating of this place. The atmosphere was nothing special, the service was not bad. But the cakes? For that price I would expect something amazing and definitely not this okay-ish stuff. Coffee was drinkable but again, the price does not match the quality.

Google
Large cake selection! All three cakes we ordered were great but I traded for the Eierschecke that my mum ordered because it was the best!

Yelp
We walked in without a reservation after about 20 hours of travel. Hungry and tired. We were seated quickly, even though it was busy. Service was fast, friendly and the food was outstanding. I had the rinderfilet which was wonderfully cooked. It's beautiful inside, with lovely decoration. Absolutely recommend

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant was awesome - the food, the service, the ambiance, and the location. If we're ever in Dresden again...

Yelp
Great spot for some afternoon coffee and cake typical of German culture. The staff were very nice and it all came out quickly! The Lübecker Marzipan Nuss cake was divine. The house made lemonades were refreshing. The location is also very convenient if visiting all the old town sights. Touristy but in a good way. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Elegant late 19th century decor with chairs and benches in light wood, display cases displaying tempting Viennese cakes and pretty earthenware with painted portraits of historical figures. The arugula salad is perfectly seasoned and accompanies very good Königinpasteten (bouchées à la reine). The beef tenderloin is perfectly seared and tasty. Green asparagus is crunchy and fragrant. The apple cake a little too creamy. The service too casual for such an elegant restaurant.

Yelp
The friends and I stopped in to Coselpalais for lunch while day tripping to Dresden. Having had a small breakfast, we were quite famished by the time we sat for lunch. Coselpalais is a beautiful Baroque building in the heart of the Dresden historic old town. There is a beautiful gated courtyard with seating under umbrellas but we had to maneuver our table a little so that we could all be out of the sun. The courtyard was packed with a lunch crowd, and I have to say it took forever for a waiter to stop at our table to take our orders and throughout the meal, even though they were passing by quite often to surrounding tables. It seemed a popular spot for desserts as several people sat and had some elaborately exquisite looking desserts and coffee or wine. The dinnerware looked palatial and presentation of food was A+. To eat, I started with the Reisling Soup with crayfish. I mean anything with wine must be fine lol Flavors were good. My main meal was also delicious and a healthy-sized portion - Roasted duck breast with cherries, wild broccoli, potato gratin with spicy mountain cheese. The friends had the Saxon sour beef in raisin sauce with red apple cabbage and potato dumplings which they cleaned their plates so it must have been good. Food and location pretty good. Service I think leaves a little to be desired.

Yelp
Erste Adresse an der Frauenkirche. Sehr große Auswahl. Vor allem zum Kaffeetrinken perfekte Adresse. Sehr guter, zuvorkommender Service.

Yelp
Nice friendly prompt service in a great location. Recommending Coselpalaistorte. Right next to Frauenkirche.

Yelp
Stopped on for a quick lunch and dessert. I took Yelpers advice and ordered the Saxon Sauerbraten. It was good, probably a little filling for a lunch but if you skip breakfast like I did it worked great. The potatos were the best and then the purple cabbage was actually delicious. I wasn't expecting that. The meat was good too but nothing special. I then completed my meal with a dessert, I think you have to here. My only problem was trying to communicate to the waitress that I have a cherry allergy, so I ordered the chocolate mouse cake, she almost killed me, it had a cherry filling below the mousse. Seriously?! I guess my German could use some serious work. I did eat the top of the cake though, and the mousse was delicious. Overall the ambiance was lovely, I was able to sit outside and enjoy the fall weather and besides the language barrier (my fault totally) the staff was super nice and very polite. I would recommend this place on your next stop through Dresden.

Yelp
Food was pretty good, but the service was extremely poor. The server was rude, condescending and could barely be bothered to help us with questions in the menu.

Yelp
Very good international cuisine. If you just want to have something sweet and a coffee, just come here. They have almost every dessert there is, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. It's also very pretty inside, not really my type but it's almost Barock and it suits the surroundings.

Yelp
Best German cuisine I've ever had!!! If you're in Dresden, you must go try it out. Beautiful ambience! If I could give 10 stars I would must try their Sauerbraten!!

Yelp
I'm craving cake and I want to catch a flight to Dresden just to get some of this delicious goodness!

Yelp
Excellent place to go for coffee/tea and cake. A vast selection of cakes, be sure to try the more plain looking Eierschecke, a local specialty that I didn't really enjoy until I had it here. Now I can't have it anywhere else. I also highly recommend their seasonally changing alcoholic sorbet, the last time I went it was a strawberry sorbet topped....or rather drowned in sparkling wine. This place is popular with tourists and locals alike, something you don't find too often in the city centre. Look out for the East German coffee parties arriving around 2-4pm. :D The inside is really pretty, almost feels like you're having dinner/lunch inside a museum.

Yelp
Besutiful location right next to Frauenkirche. Good Service, fair price. Coming again tomorrow :)

Yelp
I'd give 2.5 - 3 stars. My main course (pike) was delicious, but my husband's salmon was rather bland and boring. The rating is brought down significantly by the lackluster service and disappointing desserts. Service staff were cold and aloof. They didn't seem keen to speak in English and did not attempt to be friendly. In fact, we were completely ignored for the first few minutes, even though we were standing at the main entrance in plain sight, waiting politely for someone, anyone to acknowledge us. Were we ghosts? That should have been our first cue to leave. I absolutely loved Dresden, but this place had the worst service. I never met a dessert I didn't like, but the cakes here tasted stale and underwhelming. For such a wonderful and vast display of desserts, this was a big letdown. There are several other more worthy options in this area. I'd avoid this stuffy establishment, particularly if you are English-speaking/foreign.

Yelp
Impressions & Discoveries of the Grand Cafe: - Elegant (aka stiff) cafe -- use your manners; the cafe is in the palace after all. - Theme-dressed staff: friendly and offers fast service - Pricier food options than average cafes - This is no place for breakfast (unless cakes count as breakfast items). - More cake options than any other German cafes that I've visited. Also an extensive coffee and hot chocolate selection. - Love the "order cake at the table" instead the often-used "order cake at counter and hope it comes to the right table" procedure. - Offers the Dresden-famous Christstollen and Eierschecke by the slice.

Yelp
Nice but pricey. A good range of home made cream cakes. Drinks are a bit poor. I had some home made ice tea which was cold fruit tea. Food was very well cooked but portions were small. The seating area outside was really nice. A place you can sit all day and people watch.

Yelp
The Grand Cafe Coselpalais made for an excellent stop on my drive to Prague recently. Cozy and welcoming, I did not hesitate to dine here, especially after a local recommended it to me. I was seated immediately in a very quiet dining room, and ordered the "Medallions vom Schwein"--which exceeded expectations, followed by the high water mark of the evening: the dessert. The Coselpalais sports an expansive and tempting display of various cakes and desserts. I went for the house speciality, the "Coselpalais Kuchen" with a cappuccino. This dessert was top-of-the-line, and probably the best I had throughout my entire 2-week stay in Central Europe. I hope to return to Dresden--and the Grand Cafe Coselpalais--some time soon!
