13 Things to Do With Kids in Barcelona | Condé Nast Traveler

"CosmoCaixa is a grand, attention-grabbing science museum with five floors of exploration. The star attraction is the Flooded Forest, an epic recreation of the Amazonian ecosystem. The tree roots are vast and tangling, and—warning—the museum did not scrimp on poisonous tree frogs, crocodiles, or piranhas. There’s also a ton of interactive material for kids: robots they can control, animals they can touch (not the piranhas, to be sure), a hall of mirrors, a 3D planetarium, and more." - Gemma Askham

The CosmoCaixa Museum of Science was absolutely amazing — easily one of the best museums in Barcelona. It’s not right in the city centre, but it’s very accessible by metro or bus, and well worth the trip. The museum itself is huge and breathtaking, both in scale and design. The architecture alone is impressive, but what really stood out was the immersive rainforest exhibit. Seeing a recreated rainforest environment with live animals was incredible — something you don’t often find in museums. This is a fantastic place for families and children, with lots of interactive exhibits that make learning fun. There’s so much to see and read that I’d recommend allowing at least two hours to fully take it all in. I truly enjoyed spending the afternoon here — well worth the price and a must-visit if you’re in Barcelona.

We visited the museum during the holidays season at 11am. It was probably peak time as it was very busy. I would recommend just go 1 or 2h later since at midday the crowds went down a lot. The museum itself was great. We had e-tickets and walk straight in and went down the spiral ramp to level -5 so we could make our way up to the ground floor. At the bottom is the universe display with lots of science exhibits and interactive experiments for the whole family. It is also were the forest and animals live. Level -2 also have lots of things to see and do like a dedicated area for small (micro) worlds , there kids can experiment with microscopes and magnifier glasses. We were surprised by the amount of workshops going on for free inside the museum. My oldest (5 year old) had a great time. We could not see all of it even though we were there for 3 h. So if you go with small children, might be worthy to plan what is a priority to see for your family. Overall a great museum. I would 100% recommend. The only thing I would add is that it would top notch if there was a toddler and baby area for small ones to run free.

Cosmocaixa is an absolutely fantastic science museum and a must-visit in Barcelona. We spent almost 4hrs there exploring, trying everything out and taking photos and it still didn't feel like enough. The highlight for us was definitely the museum's rainforest with all of it's fish. 🐟🐠🐡 There was a lot of kids and cheerful atmosphere. Highly recommended to visit when you find yourself in Barcelona.

Great experience! I came because of rainforest, but took much time to go through artefacts since they were quite engaging and interesting! Even though I have seen a few science centres, this one is the best of them. Base Antartica and Rain Forest wonderful exibits! Lunch place is also super, all you can eat for 17euros, with caffe next to it. I expected more of outside gardens, and gift shop, but regular. All in all, worth visiting for all ages!

This museum is very interesting and educational. It explains many scientific laws, early life on Earth, and the formation of the galaxy in a clear and engaging way. It exhibits about ecosystems and animals, and they are especially enjoyable and easy to understand by kids. It’s a great place for both children and adults to learn while having fun.

Google
A very cool place. At first it took some effort to find where to buy the tickets. After that, it was a long walk among technical wonders. Since a whole school’s worth of kids was ahead of us, we couldn’t get close to many things, but it was interesting nonetheless. The terrarium was especially awesome — you could feel real tropical climate and meet its inhabitants.

This Museum is a good, interactive and suitable for all ages. The exhibits are engaging and hands-on, especially the flooded forest and the science experiments you can try yourself. I also recommend the restaurant inside, it offers an open buffet with good food and desserts. Just make sure to go earlier at lunchtime, because when I left there was a big line outside.

If I ever revisit Spain, this museum would be one place I would definitely come to! This museum has covered every age group - not just for kids, but can also get adults curious - in the most beautiful ways! There is a short explanation supporting every apparatus setup or activity to allow one to first explore and then indulge into how science is all around us! Totally recommend for people of every age group! A must visit if you are in Barcelona - whether with or without kids!

Yelp
This place is fantastic for kids and adults incredibly interactive. Highly recommend to visit. The only downfall is it is ala carte but the basic admission is plenty for toddlers. Its nice and cool inside. I will warn you the walk from the nearest 2 train stations looks close but it is a serious incline up a hill. I'd suggest a taxi if you have difficulty with inclines. We were pushing 2 strollers and it was a good workout.

Yelp
This is a kids science museum. You can sign up for activities a few days in advance by buying the tickets. They have an astronaut workshop and clik playroom which I highly recommend. The flooded rain forest is cool and so are all the exhibits which are designed beautifully and have wonderful interactive features. The cafeteria has kid friendly food and drinks.

Yelp
Magnificent and Beautiful and Educational! My husband & I took our 3.5 year old son there August 2015. We LOVED it! A marvel! - It was a science museum, touch museum, architectural wonder, art museum, and even a mini aquarium/zoo combined into one. Magnificent views of the coast. The architecture and set up of the entire museum simply relaxing, elegant, well thought out and beautiful. We spent about 3 hours which was enough time to enjoy most of it, but we and our son could have spent the entire day there! Definitely one of the highlights of our Barcelona trip. Pros: Architecturally and artistically beautiful The rain forest was breathtaking We tried the Cost - so reasonable Admission only 4 euros pp and our son was free :) The touch touch (toca toca) show was perfect for my 3 year old (cost 5 euros/adult). He touched creatures he normally wouldn't have! Chevy our instructor/guide was a gifted teacher and facilitator...thanks Chevy! Cons: None! Highly highly recommended!!

Yelp
This museum is an interesting mix between a science museum, a natural history or geology museum and even a zoo. The tropical rainforrest with living animals within the museum is fun for kids and adults. The arrangement of numerous scientific experiments seems to be orderless, but in this way there is a lot to explore and to discover. You can easily spend several hours in this museum without getting bored.

Yelp
Amazing museum! Great experience for adults and kids. We took our 1 year old daughter and even she enjoyed it. They have fascinating exhibits with countless hands-on, interactive activities. The amazon rainforest is like a mini-zoo. I highly recommend a stop at CosmoCaixa. Prices are very reasonable too.

Yelp
Great Museum, especially with kids, but interesting for the adults as well. The building is great after it's renovation with a large spiral ramp down the center of the 5 stories. Starting at the bottom, there is an enormous 2/3 story open area with exhibits, many of them taking advantage of the tall ceilings (like the pendulum slowly shifting and knocking down bars showing time). Interestingly, they also have an exhibition called toca toca, where children (and adults) can see and touch animals. It was not expected in a science museum, but well done and fit with the living tropical forrest on display. Our half day was not enough so we will be back as soon as possible.

Yelp
One of the BEST science museums I've ever been to for hands on learning. Honestly, we wouldn't have thought to go if it wasn't for the fact that we were with kids in Barcelona. There are just so many things to see and do in Barcelona, but I am SO glad that we did. The location is a bit out of the way. But it's well worth it. Here are some highlights--- The architecture was beautiful! Needed to escape from the heat with children. The buffet lunch was just fabulous! All the exhibits have great English translation. Small, but very cool rainforest section with animals.

Yelp
Near Tibidabao is the Cosmocaixa, which is well worth a visit. It has a rainforest within it showing its animals and its habitat. Excellent science displays - a mixture between the natural history museum and the science museum in London

Yelp
A real gem of a eco/science museum. This was a nice surprise after spending a week visiting sites on the usual tourist itinerary in Barcelona. Both of my kids loved the hands-on exhibits in the expansive space and peaceful setting (it was relatively quiet, perhaps due to the holiday season). The rainforest and aquatic exhibits were impressive. To top it off, admission was free for kids up to 16 and so it was the least expensive visit of the week for our family of 4.
