"I also recommend exploring the Careyes community in Jalisco. Head to Playa Rosa for lunch or dinner and learn about the captivating history surrounding this enclave known for its arts and wildlife. Go for a sunset drink at Capacha Center lodge in Arroyo Seco." - Zachary Rabinor

"In the Costalegre region of Jalisco, along a wild stretch of the Pacific Coast, lies Careyes, a community with a nine-mile beach studded with rocky islets and sea caves often described as the Mediterranean of Mexico. First founded in the 1960s by the Italian banker and creative visionary Gian Franco Brignone—who bought 25,000 acres of land after flying a helicopter over the region and discovering the landscape of this tropical paradise reminded him of the Amalfi Coast in Italy—this private design enclave quickly turned into a luxury development rife with villas and cliff-top castles with all-star appeal for the international jet set. Throughout the years, it has attracted the likes of Cindy Crawford, Mick Jagger, Uma Thurman, and even a wealth of European royalty, heirs, and heiresses." - Michaela Trimble

Very small, but beautiful town on the coast of Mexico. We were on a boat, and ate at the restaurant on the beach. Pretty much all that is there unless you get into the Pueblo a few miles away. Beautiful to look at from a boat, but there is pretty much nothing to do there except relax. That's not necessarily A Bad Thing but when I'm traveling I like to swim, visit towns have some diversions. If you like to just hang on a beach or at a hotel pool this is a beautiful spot.

I don't know where to begin - an experience of a lifetime. Read about the origin of Careyes and come be a part of a treasured hideaway just 3 hours south of the Puerto Vallarta Airport. The architecture, colors, tastes and sounds of Careyes are magical. The most romantic place I think I have ever been!

Wanted to visit the beach for our 30th anniversay and were not allowed access. All beaches in Mexico are public and there is no access unless you pay the exhorbitant day rate. Will never return.

HEAVEN on EARTH..! It's a community, not a town so you have no choice but to contact the Careyes concierge and rent a house which - a house with a pool - starts at around $2,000 USD per day (4 bedroom house) but it has incredible service. It's a 5 star hotel - even better. Fly to Manzanillo, not Puerto Vallarta, it's closer. Best time to go is November to April - the rest of the year is rainy season.
