I Went on a Yoga and Surf Retreat in Nicaragua During the Pandemic — Here's What It Was Like

"Costa Dulce was one of the first ecolodges built on a remote beach 10 miles south of San Juan Del Sur. It hosts week-long yoga and surf retreats year-round. Located in a private, gated community, Costa Dulce is perched high above a secluded beach, offering views that are only visible by boat or plane. The property includes solar-powered cabins, a sea turtle hatchery, and offers a residency program for remote workers. It provides a unique retreat experience with a focus on yoga, surfing, and wellness activities." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Costa Dulce is one of the best beach resorts I have ever been too in Nicaragua, there is nothing like it. I have been there multiple times and everytime there is always a similar family vibe with all the guests, Costa Dulce automatically creates this good vibe/energy that you see in everyone. Everything is perfectly organized and consistent. Food is healthy and excellent. The rooms are very modern and comfortable and enjoyed trying the Costa Dulce shampoo, conditioner and soap. Also I Definitely recommend trying their Cold Plunge and Sauna every morning on the point. Such an amazing new spot they are building out there .

I have been home for a couple of days but still thinking about the AMAZING time I had at Costa Dulce. It lived up to all the reviews I read prior to going. All the staff are amazing. The property is so beautiful with views from everywhere. Great little spots to hang out and be with people or by yourself. The food is so good. The surf and surf instructors were great. Freddy and team will have you improving your skills in no time. The yoga was a perfect compliment to surfing everyday. The turtle sanctuary was also a highlight....seeing the babies head out to sea.....and seeing a momma turtle come in to next one late evening. Lots of other activites were a lot of fun - Live band, Cold plunge, Temescal sweat lodge. It really has it all.

Costa Dulce exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you can tell the staff genuinely love being there—it really adds to the whole experience.||The food is fresh, healthy, and absolutely delicious. Shared meals made it easy to meet other guests, and I ended up connecting with some really interesting, kind people from all over.||My room was beautiful—comfortable, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed to blend in with the natural surroundings.||Surf lessons were a highlight. Freddy, Adreys, and Miguel were patient but encouraging, and the waves were great for beginners. The post-surf video analysis was super helpful and helped everything click more quickly.||Yoga classes were another big plus—amazing instructors, beautiful setting, and a perfect balance of challenge and relaxation.||Honestly, the trip was just about as perfect as it gets. Whether you're going solo or with others, Costa Dulce is a special place.

As a child, I used to visit Escameca Beach, which was once part of my aunt's farmland. Fifty years later, I returned to the same beach, and your staff and management made me feel right at home. Simply being around kind people was more than worth the price I paid. I wholeheartedly recommend Costa Dulce Retreat as the ideal setting for a happier life. Javier A. I stayed at Coste Dulce for a week and the experience was beyond amazing. The location was beautiful and the meals were really healthy too. The daily activities offered a lot of variety, so everyone could find something interesting. The surf instructors were really skilled, patient and put a lot of effort into improving my technique even though I was there mostly to just enjoy the waves. :) The yoga was great too, and the stuff was super helpful. I highly recommend this to anyone and I'll definitely come back!

The best place I’ve ever visited, hands down.|Everything about this place is just perfect—seriously dreamy.||Location:|Absolutely stunning. The lodge is tucked into a hillside right next to a peaceful, secluded beach. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, but 100% worth it. I flew into Liberia, and Costa Dulce took care of all the transportation from the airport to the lodge, including a super smooth Costa Rica/Nicaragua border crossing.||Rooms:|The rooms are awesome—private, comfy, and stocked with everything you need. They even include all-natural toiletries made right on site. Love that.||Facilities:|Think upscale communal living. There are shared spaces like the dining bungalow where everyone eats together, a chill library, three pools, a pool bar, and a beach bar. You can book off-resort day trips if you want to explore, but honestly, the lodge has everything you need to relax and unwind.||Food:|No exaggeration—this was the freshest, tastiest, healthiest food I’ve ever had on a vacation. Everything is local, unprocessed, and packed with flavor. They’ve got options for every dietary need too.||Service:|Incredible. The staff are so warm and welcoming—everyone feels like a friend by the end. I was a solo female traveler for the first time, and I’ve never felt more safe or comfortable. I also met so many amazing people while I was there.||This place is paradise. If you’re thinking of going… book the damn trip. You won’t regret it.

Wow! This place is so great. We just spent an amazing week there.|Costa Dulce is where rustic meets connectivity and rest meets activity. |You can surf and catch a cold plunge or yoga class all before the hot breakfast at 9am. |Costa Dulce is located well out of San Jan Del Sur, so at night you can hear the waves crashing on the beach well you feel nestled in the jungle ( traversing steps and walk ways between cabins, yoga, the beach and dinning space). The food here is fantastic with a great mix of Nicaraguan meals. |I haven’t even mentioned the awesome beach. |Long story short, we will be back.

Just got back from our week-long trip and it was amazing! We got through Liberia airport and it was very smooth and well organized. At no point we felt we didn't know where to go or what to do. The location is paradise-like where we had a lot of fun learning surfing and practicing yoga with the awesome teachers. The food was delicious and the staff made us feel like we belonged. Would highly recommend, and are already planning our next trip there.
