Costa Lanta

"The experience begins with your arrival via speedboat from the Krabi mainland straight onto Klong Dao Beach on Koh Lanta. Crafted with wood culled from colonial-era homes, each of the 22 guest quarters is an open-sided cube anchored by a large bed on a concrete platform topped by mosquito netting and facing the sea. Snack on tasty Thai dishes in the restaurant or quaff drinks in an upstairs bar with stylish weekenders from Bangkok. The hotel can organize dive excursions to nearby islands, and the small gift shop stocks the best of Bangkok fashion."

What a fantastic place! Super stylish and comfortable, down to the finest details. Loved the beachfront room with patio overlooking the sea, and the gorgeous bathroom with rain shower. The staff are so lovely and attentive too. The grounds are glorious, as is the pool. Great bar and food too. The location is superb - at the far end of the beach where it’s much quieter. This is a hotel for discerning people who are looking for an elegant, sophisticated ambience, a world away from mass tourist fodder. I’ve been to several hotels in Thailand and this is by far the best.

Costa Lanta Hotel ReviewI stayed at the Costa Lanta Hotel for two nights, and I must say this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had. While the property had potential and clearly had a vision when it was first built, the lack of upkeep and maintenance has turned it into a rundown and unpleasant place to stay.Room and Facilities:The room was essentially a concrete box with no windows, creating a claustrophobic and unwelcoming atmosphere. There was no chair or proper seating inside the room, so I had to sit on the concrete floor once the mosquito net was down—hardly ideal. The hard bed, cheap polyester duvet, flat pillows, and basic bedding added to the discomfort. Additionally, the floor was pure concrete, and no slippers were provided, which felt unhygienic. The bathroom was equally disappointing. There was a persistent damp smell, the wardrobe and fridge was in the bathroom, and the tap and shower head were rusty with visible green limescale and mold. The water pressure was practically non-existent when using hot water, and the drain didn’t work properly. Shower water spread across the bathroom floor due to a poorly installed curtain, leaving the space wet and slippery. Worst of all, insects crawled through the cracked drain grate. I resorted to using bottled water to brush my teeth because of the condition of the bathroom fixtures.Resort Grounds and Amenities:The overall resort felt neglected and abandoned. Still water around the property attracted mosquitoes and other insects, which made spending time outside uncomfortable. The wooden walkways were uneven, with large steps into rooms—not at all friendly for those with mobility issues. At night, the lights around the property were turned off, making it dark, scary, and unsafe to navigate alone. The swimming pool was rusty, and the sunbeds looked old and worn. The supposed massage area was empty except for a moldy daybed, adding to the ghost-town feel of the resort. While the listing advertised activities like horse riding, diving, snorkeling, and massages, none of these were offered.Beach and Location:The beach location was okay, but the water wasn’t clean (not hotel fault), and the hotel entrance was not on the main road, making it impossible to flag taxis. It felt inconvenient, especially since the resort itself had little to offer.Noise and Sleep Quality:Sleep was impossible due to the constant noise of a nearby drum and bass party and barking dogs throughout the night. Combined with the hard bed and lack of comfort, I didn’t get any rest during my stay.Food and Service:Breakfast was underwhelming, with a small, uninspired menu that needed to be ordered from a checklist. There was no coffee machine or proper juice, which felt inadequate for a so-called 4-star resort. The only saving grace was the staff at check-in; she was polite and efficient, always greeting guests warmly.Overall Impression:This resort is a textbook case of style over substance. What might have once been a chic, modern retreat has become a dilapidated and poorly maintained property. Every aspect—from the rooms to the facilities—feels cheap and neglected glamping, making the high price tag unjustifiable.I tried to spend as little time as possible at the room/hotel, opting to visit other beach areas and resorts nearby. It’s a shame because with proper maintenance and attention to detail, Costa Lanta could be a fantastic place to stay. Unfortunately, in its current state, I cannot recommend it to anyone.

Costa Lanta is a truly special place. I've visited multiple times over the years with friends, family, and my girlfriend, and every experience has been wonderful. The rooms have a minimalist charm, blending beautifully into the natural surroundings. The location is perfect—right on the beach, and a great base to explore the rest of the island if you wish to. While the food and drinks are slightly pricier than other nearby spots, they're consistently excellent and well worth it. Evenings here can be as peaceful or lively as you choose, relax over wood fired pizza and cocktails, or walk a few hundred metres along the beach to enjoy fire shows and beach bars. The pool at Costa Lanta is divine. It's very spacious, with a minimalistic and tasteful elegance under the shades of pine trees—a refreshing departure from the bright, tiled patterns typical at other hotels. It's the perfect spot to relax. Above all, the team at Costa Lanta genuinely cares, making sure you always feel relaxed and well looked after. It's a place I'm always excited to share with others and one I highly recommend if you’re looking for minimalistic luxury, contemporary comfort, and memorable hospitality. Thank you!

We just left and want to go back! A real oasis in nature and being child free really made the stay even more enjoyable. The grounds are unique which adds to the charm. There are mosquitoes because of the water but just bring your inspect repellent and all will be good. The architecture is also interesting. The staff are some of the most loveliest people we have met in Thailand. Breakfast here is a small a la carte which is perfect as everything felt fresh and no food waste (something I hate to see at hotel breakfast buffets). The pizza restaurant is also great and very popular at lunch time. Added bonus a cute dog and cat live there. Just a wonderful atmosphere.

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and really like this place, people in the stuff are very nice. I can’t say it was clean hotel, but very well and comfortable designed. So quiet and romantic. One of our best time in Thailand. Breakfast is small, but good quality and really delicious. Hotel has pizzeria with good and cocktails. The beach is very big and long, but maybe more suitable for walking and sport. Had many places to eat. We stayed for NY and it was many fireworks. We are ready to come back again to this hotel ❤️

Lovely if you like to engage in near constant warfare with mosquitos at all times of the day. The rooms aren't completely sealed because they're cabins so they are free to enter anytime. Mosquito nets are provided around the bed but we laid at least 10 mosquitos to rest before we could sleep. The rooms are very small and dark. The staff are absolutely lovely (but only 1 speaks good English) - all of which is fine if the price reflected all this. But it's expensive so it just feels like a very overpriced, camping experience.

Watch out! photos are outdated and rooms are not shiny like on the pictures. Many small issues in rooms starting from toilet flush through locking doors issues in “sleeping place” coz bungalow is not good word to describe this accommodation. Houses missing regular window and doors. Sorry to say that but if you plan to visit this place throw few more dolars to your budget and go to Avani 800 meters from this place.
