Costa Maya | Cruise Port

We enjoyed spending a few hours in port! Plenty of options for food, shopping, or just walking around and enjoying the beach and views! Food was priced high which is expected in tourist-oriented places, you just have to go with the flow on that front. We were there the week before Christmas, and it was a little cloudy but the temperature was perfection. Beautiful weather!

Costa Maya is the best cruise ship port I've ever been to, and I've been to six in the US, three in Bahamas, one in Grand Cayman, one in Honduras, one in Jamaica and five in Mexico. This cruise port is clean, modern and has free activities. Right when you walk off the ships there are costumed performers to set the tone. At 9:30 AM there was a free Danza de los Volvdores performance with an English speaking recorded explanation of the dance, which happens to be recognized by UNESCO. There is a free flamingo exhibit and a TON of swimming pools that are free to use. If you want to use a beach chair, it's just the price of a drink. There are also free hammocks to use. They have spa services, massages in hammocks and on the beach, lots of restaurants and shops. The architecture is pretty and there are many photo opportunities around the enclosed cruise port. Security is great and nobody is allowed in without a cruise card, so you don't have to be worried about being hassled by street vendors. My parents went last year and hated this port because the weather was bad, which caused many excursions to be cancelled so everyone was confined to the cruise port and it was too busy. One of the most impressive and enjoyable cruise ports in the Caribbean! Costa Maya Cruise Port is absolutely fantastic. The moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by a vibrant, resort-style atmosphere with beautiful architecture, colorful shops, and plenty of things to do right within the port area. The pools, bars, photo spots, and entertainment make it feel like a mini-vacation even before you head out on excursions. Everything is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate. The staff is friendly, the shops have great selections, and the entire port feels safe and welcoming. Whether you want to relax by the water, explore local culture, or grab great food and drinks, Costa Maya has something for everyone. A top-notch cruise port experience — fun, lively, and incredibly memorable! Highly recommended for anyone sailing through this route. 🌴🛳️✨

Nice assortment of shops although you won't make it more than a few steps without someone attempting to get you to come into their store. There are several bars and restaurants. The food was ok but pricey for the quality. The flamingos are great to watch and the pool is refreshing.

Costa Maya cruise port in Mahahual has seen notable improvements in recent years compared to visits from three years ago. The port area includes artificial beaches, hammocks, bars, shops, and entertainment shows. It is well-organized for passengers staying in port without excursions, with amenities like a large pool, swim-up bars, and structured facilities. Flamingo sanctuary and performances like the Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers). The area activates when ships are in port, offering options for relaxation or local exploration. The port is undergoing further transformation under Royal Caribbean ownership (acquired in 2025), with plans for a "Perfect Day Mexico" resort-style development expected to open around 2027, including enhanced beach and pool features. Other cruise lines continue to use the existing infrastructure. This makes Costa Maya a convenient, self-contained stop for cruise passengers seeking a few hours ashore.

Beautiful port and very colorful. Like most ports, stuff can get pricey. The shop workers weren’t overly aggressive about trying to make sales during our experience so I appreciated that. We didn’t eat food at this port but there was fun music and it looked like a large swimming area. Very nice people!

We had a wonderful day in Costa Maya. We walked thru shopping maze and grabbed a taxi to town. We had them take us to The Krazy Lobster. Great day of swimming, floating, eating, drinking and massages. We always end our time here with pleasant walk toward lighthouse before grabbing a taxi back to Port. Taxis are $5 per person. Massages are $20 to $25.

Beautiful company store. It's about as controlled and environment as anything you've ever seen since Disneyland. Most Americans will really enjoy this due to a sterile and seemingly safe environment. Be sure to take advantage of some of the tours and get up and out into the wild.
