Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen is an excellent hotel with impressive facilities, including a surrounding coffee farm and an on-site golf course. It’s only a 10-minute drive to Juan Santamaria International Airport, making it conveniently accessible while remaining quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed breakfast and evening snacks in the executive lounge, where we could even request menu items not on the buffet (which we only learned after talking to the concierge later), which was a great feature. Housekeeping was excellent, and the staff at the lounge were friendly and attentive. Overall, our stay was pleasant.||Caveat:|For a room upgrade costing an additional $100, guests receive access to the executive lounge with breakfast and evening snacks. Of the total $100 fee, breakfast costs $32 plus tax. We later discovered that the breakfast buffet in the main hall downstairs, with a larger variety and a view of the surroundings, also costs the same. When we asked if we could opt for that instead, several staff members at the concierge consistently said “no,” even when we offered to forego the executive lounge access. One concierge promised to discuss this with his supervisor and return our call, but he never did, and we had to follow up. On our last day, we wanted to invite a friend to join us for breakfast in the lounge, and an extra guest was charged $40. As frequent travelers, we have stayed at hotels like the Hilton, which allow guests to use the executive lounge and buffet restaurant for breakfast. Marriott Hacienda Belen could adopt a similar flexible approach to accommodate its guests better, and I hope when the room upgrade was offered, all these matters explained clearly so that we could have made right decision instead of stuck to it without any other options.
