It is a good and interesting trip – but not the luxury trip they advertise.
The cabins are really small. You have to take turns getting dressed in the morning. They leave the bed open the whole trip – so no room for sitting in your cabin. Extremely little room for unpacking.
Many of the local guides were really very excellent, but the hostess/guide on the train focused primarily on the Spanish guests (1/2 of our group). Every time she was talking/guiding she started in Spanish and went on for a very long time. Then in English which was always very brief. Understanding some Spanish, I could tell we really didn´t get the same information. That was very unsatisfactory.
The headsets you were given for the guided tours were of such poor quality, that most of the group just didn´t use them.
The food was plentiful – but you got fish as the main course at almost every meal (lunch and dinner). Very few vegetables. At the end of the trip one of the Spanish guests told us that the guide had explained to the Spanish group, that they could ask for something else. She never told the English group.
The dinner at the promised Michelin star restaurant was really bad. Poor service and mediocre food. Apparently we were there on their closing day so I guess the chef was not there and the waiters where students that knew absolutely nothing about food or wine.
The staff onboard the train were amazing. Friendly and service minded. And the food onboard was generally very good.
The itinerary was great. Going places you would normally not go. Very interesting.
So all in all a good trip but not value for the money they charge.
