Yelp
We came here in May 2023 for the long Memorial Day weekend and stayed 3 nights in the Cypress bungalow/tent. This is a really awesome place for glamping. There are areas for RVs, ground space for campers that want to pitch their own tents, a village of bungalow tents with beds, and nicer cabins. This is a kid friendly place, so there were a lot of kids running around playing and riding bikes all over the campgrounds.
Cypress tent:
It had a queen size bed, electric heating blanket, a space heater, 1 nightstand, 2 small lights, and just enough space to walk around the bed, so there's just enough room to sleep and change in the tent. This was perfect for what we were looking for and the blanket and space heater kept us plenty warm. We were even too toasty at one point so we shut off the heating blankets in the middle of the night. You're relatively close to other tents and since they're not real walls, you hear your neighbors' conversations and loud birds. In our case, there was also a baby in the tent next to us so I woke up to a baby crying a couple of times the first night, but I solved this by getting complimentary ear plugs from the front desk lobby for the other nights and slept just fine.
Bathroom & Showers:
Staying in the cypress village/bungalow tent, we were a short walking distance to the shared bathrooms and showers that they call comfort stations. The bathrooms also have a central fireplace area with chairs where folks can come gather and hangout around a fire. The showers are outdoors (although there was one shower inside the bathroom as well) and the water gets really hot and they also supplied shampoo, conditioner, and body wash inside the showers. I recommend bringing water shoes or some sort of shower shoes since you wouldn't want to go barefoot in the showers, but other than that the showers and bathroom are pretty well-maintained. In our tent, they supplied metal shower caddies with towels, little shampoos and soap, and robes.
Food options:
- They have Casacde which is their nicer restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We made a reservation for dinner on a Friday night and it was pretty good, just the pricer option for food
- Pine and Tent is their more casual spot for food and drinks. We ate almost all our meals here on Saturday and Sunday. We got coffee and breakfast burritos in the morning and for lunch and dinner had their pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, and other salad and sandwiches they had
- A small general store for snacks and food items that you can grill or cook if you're opting to make something yourself at your campsite. I saw a fridge with bacon, eggs, etc. so they have all the necessities to allow campers to cook their own food without having to leave Costanoa to look for a grocery store. They also had beer and wine.
Hikes:
**recommend wearing long pants and long sleeves due to poison ivy & ticks in the area**
- For a costal scenic hike, my favorite hike was Franklin point which is about 3 miles. You do have to cross the Highway 1 but the hike was very rewarding to hike along the coast and see the beach and the terrain felt diverse. We started on dirt then we were walking on small rocks, then crossed the highway road, I remember there being grassy parts, sandy parts, and also parts where there were wooden planks to pave the path. Overall this was my favorite hike because of how beautiful the coastal view was. I would definitely do this hike again.
- Ohlone Ridge hike was also about 3 miles and this is on the more forest-y side of Costanoa. Lots of greenery and trees. We spotted a lot of poison ivy on this trail so we were careful about not touching anything at all. We saw a lot of rabbits hopping around on this hike and it was worth getting to the top to see the overlook, even though it was a bit foggy and overcast when we went. We found a tick on my sweater after this hike (dog ticks are known to be common here), so I highly recommend checking all your clothes after any of the hikes and changing immediately after into a new set of clothes if possible.
- Whitehouse creek beach was about 2 miles and we also had to cross the highway for this trek. The stairs down to the beach were pretty steep but was worth getting down where we found lots of tidepools. We spent some time looking at little crabs, shells, and cool rocks.
I would come return again and think this would be a great glamping place to do with friends.
