Back open! Outdoor wine tasting, COVID protocols in place, and most importantly AMAZING wines. The Cabarnet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Grenache are standout reds. But it's their white wines and roses which are most surprising: crisp, full of grassy notes, and not at all sugary sweet. No oakey, buttery Chardonnays on this menu. I'm normally not a big fan of rosé, but I absolutely love Côte West's rosé varietals. Like any great chef with an innovative approach to a familiar recipe, Côte West's versions has made me completely reconsider rosé and Chardonnay. I bought a mixed case of rosé (Counoise, Grenache & Zinfandel) and handed them out to our neighbors as quarantine gifts when COVID first arrived. Their response was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone asking about how to get more. Yes, they're that good!

Wow, where do I begin? Sadly my Dad passed away on the 27th of Nov. to know my dad was to know a man that loved a good time, enjoyed a good bottle of wine and was a laid back dude that was glad to have grown up and grown old in Oakland, and he did so gracefully! Hosting his Celebration of Life @Côte West was absolutely the best decision we made. The venue, the staff, the owner all were great! Event planner Carissa was so accommodating, they had not had an event of this type ever. But you would have thought this was something they did on a regular basis. I hope to come back one day and host a party of some type (I live in Atlanta). I’d like to add the wine is great! Thanks for everything Carissa and all that are apart of Côte West Urban Winery

Stunning wines and outstanding hospitality. We arranged a wine tasting with Bret and his wife, Kerrie, for our company retreat visiting Oakland. They were both super accommodating and lovely to work with. On the day, Bret went above and beyond to show us a great time, while sampling their delicious wines. Nothing was too much trouble, and the venue was just beautiful. We'll be sure to visit again when next in the area. Thank you Côte West!

Truly enjoyed the wine at Côte West! The education during the wine tasting with Lorelle was the best part. My girlfriend and I both left with a bottle that we didnt expect we’d love. They currently have a holiday 3 pack thats exciting for Christmas. Will definitely come back and would recommend to friends to try 🙌🏾

I've done a LOT of wine tasting working in the industry up and down California, and this is top notch wine! You won't find punchy/heavy/oaky wine here - they are light (not tannic) and flavorful. The Chardonnay is superb - not oaky or buttery - crisp and wonderful; also I'm typically not a fan of Grenache but I love Cote West's Grenache, go figure. Everything on the menu is delicious. You can usually find the owner/wine maker, Bret, pouring at his events and welcoming his members by name (this guy has a fantastic memory!). The name is a homage to Bret's training in Burgundy and he makes his wine in that style. I like to take my friends here or just stop by when I have a free weekend and chat with folks. Stop here and you'll have tried some of the best wines in Northern California.

Google
We had our wine tasting with Brett, the wine maker himself, and it was a delightful experience! Brett’s vinification experience and time spent with one of Burgundy’s premier vintners really shone through in his wines. He gave extensive information on how all of their wines came to be, and we had a wonderful time! He also gave us a tour of their wine making area and let us take pictures on the actual barrels themselves! Thanks again, we'd recommend your winery to anyone!!

Off the beaten path but cute little urban winery and great for a quick afternoon tasting. The wine is delicious.

Yelp
This spot is the perfect venue! I attended my friend's baby shower and we were shocked this existed out here on the border of Alameda and Oakland. Upon driving there we were worried how parking would be given all the incidents recently in Oakland, but were pleasantly surprised that's its in a nice parking lot that's a bit secluded. The venue is perfect for a event of ~100 persons. My friend was able to bring her own food and the wine were provided. Perfect baby shower venue TBH! We got to try their sparkling wine, their Grenache, and the cab. I ended up sticking to the cab the entire day. We love how the garage door opens up to the outdoor, so both indoor/outdoor seating were available. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming. I loved how they provided a little tasting during the event as well. At the end we helped clean up the venue and the staff also helped as well. This seemed like a super chill and fun ambiance to host any event, while also letting the guests enjoy a bit of wine from the bay. I may have to book this spot for my future events!

Yelp
The cutest friggin' tasting room with some delicious wine to boot! Cote West is the perfect place to relax while sipping on some delightful wines. Maaaan!!! Ya girl has been missing out BIG time. It took me waaay too long to get here, but I finally made it. And, what a gem this place is! I do most of my wine tasting in wine country these days. While I enjoy wine country, I've realized that it has made me neglect all of the wonderful local tasting rooms that I have right here at home. Plus, I'm getting older now and the long drives are getting harder for me to make (and more expensive with these ridiculous gas prices). My goal going forward is to start visiting more local tasting rooms and wineries. Visiting Cote West was the perfect way to start this new journey for me. Came here with a friend last year for a tasting after having brunch and we had an absolute blast! Cote West is located in a small warehouse district in the East Oakland area. It's very unassuming, but you'll notice their adorable front patio area as soon as you pull into the parking lot. They really have it set up so nicely! They've got large barrels to taste on with high chairs and large umbrellas to keep you shaded during those warm and sunny days. Their indoor tasting room is cozy but modern and chic with bright and colorful décor. They even have a large barrel room in the back where they host both private events and public parties! It's really a beautiful space. Jill and Pablo were our hosts and they were super friendly and inviting! We both decided to do a tasting but you can also purchase wine by the glass and light bites here as well. A tasting is $20 for 5 wine pours from their current tasting menu (tasting fee is only waived for members). The pours are very generous and they have a pretty diverse wine list. Also to note; they are the only tasting room in the city that produces their own wine on site! So, not only is their barrel room used for events, but it's actually 100% functional. Walk-ins are welcome but you can also make reservations (especially during their busier seasons). As I mentioned before, they have a very diverse wine list that features some very unique and less common wines. In fact, this was the first time that I ever tried Pet Nat (Petillant Naturel) and Orange Wine. Pet Nat is a sparkling wine that has allowed to ferment and finish in the bottle. I'd honestly have to say that this was my absolute favorite wine to taste here. It was so light, tropical, and effervescent. The perfect sipping wine for a warm day. Also really enjoyed their super floral and earthy Pinot Noir. It was definitely a Pinot by total definition and it had all of the wonderful elements that I love in a Pinot. Wasn't the hugest fan of the orange wine, but it was fun to try it for the first time. Jill did an excellent job of explaining the history of the tasting room and the wines. We also enjoyed hearing about the wines from Pablo, but we did feel a bit rushed by his during our tasting. To be fair, we did come about and hour before closing, and he didn't rush us after we paid and lingered for a little while afterward. For the most part, their wines are decently priced but I did feel that their red wines were a bit high. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed most of them and we had a great experience here. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who is looking to wine taste locally.

Yelp
I love this little tasting room. The wines are delicious and the staff is great. We ordered cheese and meat with our tasting and it went together very well. The staff was helpful and very welcoming. It is a nice place to just relax and sip on some yummy wine.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place!!! Amazing tasting experience, and Mediha was an amazing host. This is a hidden gem in Oakland, you definitely have to try and stop by very quiet and secluded. The atmosphere was nice, and the host was wonderful!!!

Yelp
This is the perfect hideaway from the chaos of the weekend in Oakland! It was literally the best winery handling Covid 19, made my 90min reservation for outdoor seating. Now for the wines, I can never enjoy over the counter wine after coming here. It is a blessing and a curse...I'm gonna only have to drink Côte West wine for the rest of my life. Extraordinary French like wine, and lovely customer service! Cheers!!

Yelp
With a guest from Salt Lake City (which has much to offer but falls way short in the wine tasting category (understatement!)) in tow, we ventured over to the "Oaklandish" Embarcadero. Located in a semi or once-industrial area near the estuary, Côte West offered a peaceful respite from the bustle of the Embarcadero and the roar of 880. Once seated comfortably at the barrel tables, Bret began the tasting with a Pétillant Naturel, a sparkling wine with a natural and effortless effervescence that belied the labor-intensive method that Bret described to us. There followed a Rosé of Zinfandel, which delivered a lively acidity, as promised. Next up, a Chardonnay. For those who (like me) have turned their backs on Chards after the heavy oaky run of Chardonnays of some years ago, I can testify that this was not that! Prepare to be amazed at how accessible this Chardonnay is, with no heavy undertones glowering in the background. Continuing along the spectrum, we sampled a 2019 Dry Creek Grenache which delivered, oddly enough, on the promise of "candy fruit roll-up aromatics." Who knew? A bottle of that is going back to Salt Lake City, which might be a first for the winery. Last up was a Pinot Noir and I do believe we all tasted the note of sarsaparilla in this well-structured Pinot. The pacing was perfect, with Bret waiting until we had completed each tasting and enjoyed exchanging notes back and forth on the merits of each wine. In sum, we had a thoroughly enjoyable outing of a lovely Sunday afternoon. We'll have to return to check out the Skin-Fermented Sauvignon Blanc. Or perhaps the Rosé of Counoise or maybe ....

Yelp
This place was awesome!! Found it thanks to yelp even though I volunteer at the school in the same parking lot--shocked that this gem was here since November and I had no idea! The staff is so nice--Bret, the winemaker, took us on a tour of the facility, including taking a peek at fermenting grapes, which is something I've never experienced at a winery! Every wine offering was delicious...three roses, and great white options (typically I'm a red drinker). You should go!!!

Yelp
I. And here on a Saturday and really enjoyed the wine tasting. The team that works there is small but very chill and inviting. The owner happen to be there and gave us a tour of their process in the building. Quite the extensive setup and always so fun to learn more about the wines I love! This is a little gem in the East Bay.

Yelp
From the time I walked in I fell in love with this place. From the customer service and the friendly faces. The knowledge of the wine and production. You have to see the back area where they make the wine. It's very cozy a hidden gym. If you have been to Cate west yet. You have to go , it's plenty of parking and friendly faces and u can't beat the price. The Rosé was my favorite

Yelp
Stopped by recently to try the new vintage and the wines and staff are fantastic! If you're into wine this is a must visit

Yelp
I visited the winery few days ago and tried some beautiful wines,I was impressed about the facilities and the organization. The Sauvignon blanc is so elegant and aromatic. The Chardonnay is nothing to compare with any California Chardonnay but very much like a French White Burgundy style. You also need to try the Pinot Noir who is amazing. I will recommend to visit and try there wines at the wine tasting room with the perfect wine glasses Cheers.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely date here on a sunny day in October. Not only was my company pretty great, but we had a wonderful time doing an outdoor tasting through several of their delicious wines. The service from Bret and Kerrie was so warm and you can tell how much they love what they do! I felt extremely safe during COVID with their clean outdoor setup which offered plenty of space between us and the handful of outdoor tables. Will definitely be back for more Pét Nat, Grenache, Rosé of Zin, their Orange wine... pretty much all of them! Good thing someone I know is a club member...

Yelp
I've been to Napa, I've been to Sonoma, and most recently I went to Lodi for all the wine tastings, but nothing can compare to the experience in Oakland at Cote West. Oakland you say? Yup. An urban winery brought to you by neighboring wine regions and an owner who is more passionate about wine and producing it in Oakland than any of the wine makers I've met in California's wine country. Nestled right off 880 is home to the tasting room of Cote West. The feel is super modern and welcoming while providing a list of fine wines ranging from Rose to Chardonnay. So you know what you're doing this weekend....Ditching the drive to the typical wine regions and hopping in an Uber or short ride to the new watering hole, and no, I don't mean a dumpy dark bar, but a beautiful urban winery!

I absolutely love this tasting room. The atmosphere is great and the wines are interesting and delicious. The staff is also terrific.

Yelp
What a gorgeous little tasting room and story from the Côte West team. Cote West wines will delight you and entice you to wine club level with each tasting. CW was such a refreshing change from the Jack London wine tasting stops that I've taken out of convenience. We went on a Saturday and were greeted with friendly smiles from the winemaker himself, his wife, and a couple dogs and kids running around the tasting room. It's such a great space, they even gave us a tour of the facility where the wine is made. The Sauv Blanc lives up to the hype and the Rosé Counoise is checked off my family's Christmas lists already. Surprisingly the Grenache sealed the deal for me. Typically not a Grenache fan, but this was was just light and tasty enough to make me want to write this review. Loving the wine scene in Oakland more and more!

Yelp
Oakland is upping its wine game. Not only is the wine here phenomenal but the staff (Bret and Michael - the wine makers) were amazing. They provided me and my boyfriend with a wonderful experience and I learned a ton about their wine (Pinot, cab, Chardonnay). Great for date night or to go with a few friends (which I'm doing soon!).

Yelp
Great local winery, they make all their wines onsite in their production facility. Reasonably priced, especially if you get a few bottles. They are offering curbside pickup if you're running low (as I always seem to be). Avoid the line at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and support our local local winemakers.

Yelp
Brett (owner / winemaker) makes fantastic wines. All are very drinkable on their own or pair well with food. The tasting room is very inviting and they typically offer 6 wines for $20, which can be waived with a bottle purchase (grab the grenache!!). Brett also has 3 rose varietals (Rose all day!!), which are slightly more on the dry side but appease to all palates. The Grenache is my personal favorite and recommend it to anyone new to anyone new to cote west. The Pinot is also fantastic (looking at you Pinot lovers!) Cote west is off the beaten path but worth a visit. Colleen (on Saturday) or Rani (on Sunday) will take great care of you and when Brett is on site he'll happily give you a tour of the operations.

Nina S.

Yelp
Visited for the first time for their "Made In Oakland" event. Amazing space, great wines (highly recommend the pet nat). Come for a tasting or buy by the bottle. You won't regret it. Dog and kid friendly!

Yelp
The wines here are spectacular. Beautiful, restrained and thoughtful winemaking. I enjoyed each of their wines, in particular the sauv blanc is outstanding. Joined the club on the spot and left with a half case. Can't wait to have more of their wines. Natural wines that don't taste "natural", just beautifully made.

Yelp
These wines are superb! I have lived in the Oakland area for a couple of years and have been meaning to try Cote West for some time. It did not disappoint! Roni greeted us and took us through a full flight of tastings. Roni was amazingly enthusiastic and made the tasking all the more fun. In the middle of the set, Brett, the owner and winemaker, joined us and share even more information and detail. Its clear they have a unique and honed approach to wine making, taking advantage of the best fruit from around the region. The tasting room is comfortable and of course, the staff were fantastic. Oh and the prices are so reasonable! I shared a bottle of the Grenache with a friend there and then took home four other bottles of SB, Grenache, Pinot and Orange SB! Yum! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Easily one of the best wineries in the Bay Area. Hidden gem by far. Went on a Sunday afternoon, met the winemaker and owner Brett and it was an absolute amazing experience learning about the wines he makes. Off the beaten track to find but worth the trip over!

Yelp
Wonderful wines with a distinctive point of view, tremendous artistry, and they just taste darn good! It is a welcoming space that is good for families and has lots of free parking. I highly recommend this place for a visit.

Yelp
Wow! What a find!!! A perfect place to visit for fabulous wine in a lovely outdoor setting. The staff was amazing and the Assistant WineMaker Mike gave us a thorough description of how the wines are made and what sets them apart from others. We also met the owner Bret who was extremely welcoming and dedicated to his craft. A must visit when in Oakland! Definitely try the "Pet Nat."

Allison M.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this fantastic winery! Each wine we tasted was exciting and delicious. I'm looking forward to going back and seeing what they have coming up in their next release. In addition to the fantastic wines, the intimate setting allowed us to talk to the winemaker (Bret), and hear more about the wines, winemaking, and Cote West itself. It's a treat to hear from people who are passionate about what they do, and are working to share that passion with others.

Jules R.

Yelp
My friend recently introduced me to Cote West wine and it's fantastic. When I finally made it into the tasting room, I was thrilled to find that it's a relaxing and inviting space with really friendly and knowledgable staff. Rani was working in the tasting room and we loved chatting with her and learning more about the wines. She even showed us the facility in the back where it's all made and stored, which was awesome! Cote West is such a gem- I'll definitely be back to see Rani and taste more delicious wine!

Cassandra L.

They were both super accommodating and lovely to work with. On the day, Bret went above and beyond to show us a great time, while sampling their delicious wines. Yelp
Had an amazing experience at Cote West - the staff and tasting room were very inviting and the wine was superb! I have been to a couple of other wine tasting rooms in northern California, but the relaxing environment, friendly customers, and staff member Rani, made it a place that I will definitely be returning to. Rani did a great job at explaining each wine (since I am still new to wine appreciation) and also gave me a tour of the facility, which is small but very charming. It was also dog friendly - as I got to meet the friendly miniature schnauzer Sam - which is always a plus. I definitely recommend Cote West!

Joy X.

Yelp
I attended a soft opening for the tasting room and got to try 4 or 5 different wines. They were all delicious, and we got an informal tour of the wine-making facilities behind the tasting room as well. A great place to hang out with a group of friends!

Yelp
Don't sleep on this one. I'm loving that another new, good urban winery has popped up. Take a few steps outside of Jack London Square for some QUALITY wine and at amazing price points. Feeling random on this past Saturday, I decided to text "wine tasting" in yelp; "Cote" (sorry, I don't know how to put the house on my letter o) popped up. It's over off of Embarcadero in that area by Coast Guard Island, not far from Jack London Square. The owner/wine maker Bret was pouring. Really cool guy that shared a lot about his wine making experience and the business that he and his wife have started. Got to hear a bit about their "Cote" story and got a tour of the facility and some welcome wine making education. Wine tasting is much more fun when the wine makers and winery staff share and educate us while enjoying the product. Speaking of the product.. $10 tasting fee waived with a bottle purchase. Tasted 5 of the 6 current releases. I don't typically like all of the wine in a winery but damn.. All 5 wines are stellar. The Sauvignon Blanc wasn't over citrusy, very well balanced and full of flavor, then the Rose with this interesting amber color made from a grape that I had never heard of "cougnouse" I think that was the spelling (not at home to look at the 2 bottles I purchased), well one left since I drank one last night with my chicken.. haha.. Now, the Chardonnay is something very special had a hint of spices in it that just gave it that extra "hello, how you doin?".. The 4th wine was a grenache, so smooth and fruit forward and interestingly very refreshing as in, i could sit out on a hot day and drink this in the sun and feel great.. We ended on the Pinot Noir.. This Pinot was/is delicious and ready to drink right after popping the cork.. Oh, and the tasting room is set up really nice, with a nice bar but also a casual sitting area, actually 2, one by the window and the other kind of like a little lounge area.. And peep the wallpaper in the bathroom, even if you don't need to go.. clever, cool wallpaper that shares a bit of Bay Area History.. So, I jumped on the club membership.. they have 2 options.. I did the 6 bottle, twice a year but am thinking I may need to move that to the 12 bottle twice a year soon..
