First, if you are looking for a place to put your loved one, I am so sorry...this disease is awful. My hero, my dad, is here. As awful as the journey with this disease is and as traumatic as it is to place a loved one in a home, this place is a gem. My dad has been there for over a year and my whole family is very happy with it. The first place we put him could not handle him, and we found this one by the grace of God.
The staff is very knowledgeable, caring, and attentive. It is clean, smells good (I have been to many that do not) and they are great with the patients. They take my dad to all his appointments, monitor him, monitor his medication, and care for him. We can visit whenever we want, we are welcomed when we visit. They explain things and are very well versed in treating Alzheimer's and dementia patients.
Although my dad is in the pretty advanced stages of Alzheimer's now, he is always dressed, clean, and cared for. The owner is outstanding, the staff is great, and as far as this kind of thing goes, the price is reasonable. They are good to him, the respect his dignity, and my mom can rest easy now knowing he is in good hands and well cared for.
You may also want to give the 36 hour Day, by Nancy Mace and Peter Rabins a read. You will likely cry your way through it like I did, but at least you will have an idea what is happening and what is coming. I highly recommend the Cottage and I wish you luck in your journey with this.
