"This charming, family-run—and dog-friendly—hotel on the road from Inverness to Ullapool is an excellent resting place on your Highlands adventures. Housed in an 1820s MacKenzie mansion, the property features public spaces with magnificent fireplaces and ornate ceilings, plus cozy guest rooms with views of either the gardens or the mountains. Also on-site is a full-service restaurant, offering a luxurious menu of contemporary Scottish cuisine, as well as afternoon tea in the plush lounge or out on the lawn. When not relaxing or dining, guests can stroll the hotel’s well-maintained gardens or work on their drive in the golf practice area. There’s also a concierge on staff who can help with planning boat trips, castle visits, hiking excursions, and more, should you wish to venture farther afield."

This wonderful hotel is my Happy to go to place. I've stayed here several times in the last year.|Nothing is too much trouble. You definitely feel special when you stay here. |The rooms are comfortable and definitely worth paying a little extra for the superior rooms. I even had a TV in the bathroom, but the standard are also lovely. The beds are amazingly comfortable.|The food is always excellent and varied. |The grounds are stunning and the fairy walk is a must. Lovely to see the wildlife in the grounds during the morning and evening.|100% highly recommend

Our son (John) who comes from Strathpeffer but now lives in Canada, chose along with his fiancé (Lisa) to get married in Coul House in June of this year. It was truly a magical two days, with many family and friends travelling from Canada and beyond to be there. Everyone had the best of times, and the Coul House team were exceptional, and worked so hard at every point, and were so helpful with all requests. The food and wine were delicious, the dining room spectacular, the bedrooms superb, and everyone felt so welcome. It really was outstanding in every which way, so if you are thinking of having a wedding here, do not hesitate, they absolutely 100% know what they’re doing. So a big thank you to Stuart, Susannah, Lara, Chris, and all the staff for ensuring the success of the wedding and lifetime memories for all who were there.

We have spent many enjoyable and restful weeks in the Coul house over the past few years. All the staff are extremely friendly helpful and accommodating even to remembering what cocktail I had the previous years to drink. The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. There is always a good choice of food on the menu which is of a very good standard. This accommodation is in an excellent location to discover the Highlands and follow the north coast 500 route. Ullapool Applecross, Poolewe with the Atlantic convoy exhibition and the Inverewe gardens are all worth a visit. This is certainly a very beautiful location and we come back here year after year.

We stayed two nights at this delightful hotel near Inverness. We were warmly greeted on arrival and that warmth and impeccable service from all the friendly staff continued unabated during our stay. Our room was very comfortable, with an extremely comfortable bed and nice en suite. We enjoyed the “country house” ambience and intimacy of the hotel, its tasteful decor, pleasant lounge, stately dining room and charming garden. Our meals were quite exceptional - well presented, generously sized and very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this exceptional hotel.

We visited Inverness, Scotland and identified Coul House as a top pick. Boy were we right! Beautiful grounds, wonderful stately home, but the best part was the kindness and warmth of the husband and wife owners. They were magnificent! All of the staff was superb and our stay could not have been better!|The owners shared the ups and downs of Castle ownership and I really feel for them! I really appreciate the things they chose to make perfect and modern and the things they chose to remain period or older. |The Dinners and breakfasts were spectacular! Northern Scotland should not be missed! Coul House makes it even more so to not be missed! We cant wait to return! Bravo Coul House!!

Attended a wedding here. Arrived two days before the wedding and late in the evening but the welcome was incredible. They could not of done more for me. The staff are absolutely amazing and work so hard to keep you comfortable. The food is fabulous, presented beautifully and you can see and taste the care that goes in to it. The location is beautiful with access to many other local beauty spots as well as small towns and pretty villages and only a 40 minute drive from Inverness airport. The wedding was faultless from start to finish and again, everything you needed or wanted was there. Definitely recommend and thank you to all the staff for making my stay so good I don't want to leave.

This is a lovingly restored, family run hotel in a historic building with a glorious octagonal dining room. It also has a beautiful garden, elegant bar & is a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. It is so heart warming to see a traditional hotel of this kind that isn’t owned by a large corporate. It brings a personal touch and attention to detail which together with a great chef, makes for a wonderful stay. If you’re looking for all mod cons, this isn’t the place for you. Our bedroom was modest but very clean and tidy, and importantly it had glorious views across the gardens. We will be back!

This hotel exceeds in certain areas and lacks greatly in others. The positives include the outstanding grounds, and the gardens were simply beautiful. The attentiveness of the reception team and service staff was second to none, very much a traditionally ran hotel. Maybe trivial, but the shower in the room was one of the BEST showers I've experienced, with a huge shower head a piping hot water. We only dined for breakfast, which was nice, with a varied menu. |However, what I found disappointing is that they portray themselves as a dog friendly establishment, but, unfortunately, on 2 separate occasions, the owners two dogs, who are permitted to roam around the hotel freely, aggressively charged at my dog, who, thankfully for them is non reactive so luckily no harm was done to any of the dogs, however, this could have resulted in a nasty event, particularly if children were around to witness. |Additionally, there was no doggy items left in the room such as a bed, bowls for water etc, which are frequently supplied in other hotels. With respect to the owner, who initially was nonchalant to my concerns regarding the incident of her dogs behaviour, she did eventually acknowledge the issue and refund a portion of the room rate. My advice would be, if you have reactive dogs, then be aware should you plan on staying and remember to pack a bowl and bed for them.

Yelp
Outstanding in every way. 1. Accoms: clean, comfortable, and the owner and staff will do anything to make your accommodation perfect in every way. 2. Atmosphere: old elegant historic yet Scottish charmed and on point. 3. Food: not what we expected. Surprisingly high end 3-3.5 Michelin Stars and exceptionally crafted. Cooked to perfection. Keep the chef and kitchen staff. Every meal was spot on; fresh, tasty, and picture ready. Breakfast was also outstanding. A full Scottish breakfast was undeniably memorable. 4. Service: 5 star. Every staff member we interacted with had the exact amount of decorum and judgement to make every guest feel welcomed and comfortable. 5. Owners: charming, and interact with guests doing whatever is needed to treat you like a VIP. WE WILL RETURN!! Thank you for the memory.

Yelp
We spent the night at the hotel and enjoyed both their full dinner and Scottish breakfast. Both were excellent. The dinner service is very traditional. They seat you in the bar or lounge with the menu and you order from there. They seat you in the dining room when the food is ready to be served. We had for different entrees and enjoyed them all. The service was spectacular, as well. The breakfast was pretty standard but very good and they accommodated special orders with no trouble.

Yelp
We had booked two nights at the Tullock Castle Hotel. We were so disappointed with the condition of the hotel and the bed was awful. We checked out early and called the Coul House Hotel. Fortunately they had a room available and we moved over to Coul House. It was beautiful and well maintained with beautiful gardens. Everything was what we had hoped for. We had dinner at the hotel and it was delicious. The food was great and the staff was perfect. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
We highly recommend Coul House Hotel. We stayed 5 nights and were treated like family. The food was superb and the hospitality was outstanding. I usually don't leave reviews, but I just had to as Stuart and Susannah, the owners, helped make our stay in Scotland so memorable. If you find yourself anywhere near Inverness do yourself a favor and spend a few nights at Coul House Hotel.

Yelp
We only ate lunch here, but it was one of the more memorable meals on our journey. We pretty much stumbled across the place after a hike made us hungry and miles from any type of city. We followed the sign and almost gave up halfway up the hill when we saw another sign telling us to keep going. The lady at the desk welcomed us and suggested either the lounge or dining room; we chose the lounge. I had a daily soup, asparagus and smoked fish, which was some of the best soup I'd ever had. The smoked salmon sandwich with cucumbers on a baguette was also amazing. The beer was lovely too. The service was warm, friendly and impeccable. We would love to stay a few nights someday.

Yelp
Stopped overnight here and was very very sorry we couldn't stay longer. Stunning setting, friendly people, beautiful breakfast - and unlike most of these sort of hotels in Scotland, modernized just to the right amount, without losing any of the ambience. Highly highly recommend!
