"This charming, family-run—and dog-friendly—hotel on the road from Inverness to Ullapool is an excellent resting place on your Highlands adventures. Housed in an 1820s MacKenzie mansion, the property features public spaces with magnificent fireplaces and ornate ceilings, plus cozy guest rooms with views of either the gardens or the mountains. Also on-site is a full-service restaurant, offering a luxurious menu of contemporary Scottish cuisine, as well as afternoon tea in the plush lounge or out on the lawn. When not relaxing or dining, guests can stroll the hotel’s well-maintained gardens or work on their drive in the golf practice area. There’s also a concierge on staff who can help with planning boat trips, castle visits, hiking excursions, and more, should you wish to venture farther afield."
The Coul House was the most charming hotel. The owners made us feel right at home and everyone on their staff was so lovely. These are the NICEST people we’ve met!!! The food was outstanding and the service was so gracious. The location was perfect for day trips to the Scottish Highlands and to Dunrobin Castle. The owners gave us really great recommendations for the highlands and also for hikes and restaurants up north. We couldn’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It was an 11/10 experience!

I recently traveled to Scotland on an 11 day tour. I had the privilege of staying at the Coul House for two wonderful nights. My sister and I received gracious and personable service at every turn. Our room and the grounds were just stunning and beautifully appointed. The fire and candlelit meals just added to the ambiance and enjoyment. Stuart and his staff do a fantastic job in making the Coul House a spectacular and memorable stay. It truly was a highlight of my tour of Scotland!

Thank you to the entire Staff Team of Coul House Hotel for our most enjoyable stay for 5 nights.
The quality of service given by each member of staff was first-class and exemplary.
The kitchen team consistently produced the most delicious dishes enjoyed in the lovely octagonal dining room.
Our accommodation was spacious, most comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Coul House Hotel is an ideal base from which to walk and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. We very much hope to return.

Oh my heavens what a magical place Coul House is! We were lucky enough to stay 2 nights during which Storm Amy came through: power outage, downed trees but somehow breakfast by candlelight and a warm, glowing fire in the entry fireplace made our stay even more magical. It is clear that Stuart and Susannah have poured their hearts and love into Coul House. It truly is spectacular from the plush rooms, elegant dining, to the gorgeous gardens with massive trees to the adorable fairy trail🧚♂️...no detail has been spared. Bella and Molly, the house pups, added to the charm. All of the staff clearly take pride in their jobs! That's a direct reflection of the owners...well done! 👏 If you're lucky enough to make your way to Scotland, do yourself a favor and book a night or two. Be sure to read every one of Stuart's yearly updates in the welcome guide, you really get an understanding of Coul House! Thanks for a lovely time!

This was our first time in the area. The hotel is conveniently located for exploring the area West of Inverness; for example, we did a trip to Ullapool, about 45 minutes away. The hotel itself is a really interesting house. The room was nicely furnished and very clean. One would have to mention the food in particular, which was top class. If I had to say something more critical (which I don't really want to, we had such a good time), it might be that the avenue to the hotel is a little bumpy, not having a (tar) hard surface. But who cares?||I would also want to commend the service, which was really excellent. All staff were helpful and efficient and very friendly.||We would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Outstanding in every way.
1. Accoms: clean, comfortable, and the owner and staff will do anything to make your accommodation perfect in every way.
2. Atmosphere: old elegant historic yet Scottish charmed and on point.
3. Food: not what we expected. Surprisingly high end 3-3.5 Michelin Stars and exceptionally crafted. Cooked to perfection. Keep the chef and kitchen staff. Every meal was spot on; fresh, tasty, and picture ready. Breakfast was also outstanding. A full Scottish breakfast was undeniably memorable.
4. Service: 5 star. Every staff member we interacted with had the exact amount of decorum and judgement to make every guest feel welcomed and comfortable.
5. Owners: charming, and interact with guests doing whatever is needed to treat you like a VIP.
WE WILL RETURN!! Thank you for the memory.

Yelp
We spent the night at the hotel and enjoyed both their full dinner and Scottish breakfast. Both were excellent. The dinner service is very traditional. They seat you in the bar or lounge with the menu and you order from there. They seat you in the dining room when the food is ready to be served. We had for different entrees and enjoyed them all. The service was spectacular, as well. The breakfast was pretty standard but very good and they accommodated special orders with no trouble.

Yelp
We had booked two nights at the Tullock Castle Hotel. We were so disappointed with the condition of the hotel and the bed was awful. We checked out early and called the Coul House Hotel. Fortunately they had a room available and we moved over to Coul House. It was beautiful and well maintained with beautiful gardens. Everything was what we had hoped for. We had dinner at the hotel and it was delicious. The food was great and the staff was perfect. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
We highly recommend Coul House Hotel. We stayed 5 nights and were treated like family. The food was superb and the hospitality was outstanding. I usually don't leave reviews, but I just had to as Stuart and Susannah, the owners, helped make our stay in Scotland so memorable. If you find yourself anywhere near Inverness do yourself a favor and spend a few nights at Coul House Hotel.

Yelp
We only ate lunch here, but it was one of the more memorable meals on our journey. We pretty much stumbled across the place after a hike made us hungry and miles from any type of city. We followed the sign and almost gave up halfway up the hill when we saw another sign telling us to keep going.
The lady at the desk welcomed us and suggested either the lounge or dining room; we chose the lounge. I had a daily soup, asparagus and smoked fish, which was some of the best soup I'd ever had. The smoked salmon sandwich with cucumbers on a baguette was also amazing. The beer was lovely too. The service was warm, friendly and impeccable. We would love to stay a few nights someday.

Yelp
Stopped overnight here and was very very sorry we couldn't stay longer. Stunning setting, friendly people, beautiful breakfast - and unlike most of these sort of hotels in Scotland, modernized just to the right amount, without losing any of the ambience. Highly highly recommend!
