Renamed as “Country Lodge” as of August 2025. If you are visiting Ngorongoro, ask your tour operator to include this place to stay in!
Booked by my tour operator (so I didn’t know the price for the stay), and it’s a great choice.
Perfect for a night or two after hectic days of game drives (where you may be tired from different sorts of stays in tents and camps). It’s even better than a hotel I stayed in Arusha downtown.
WiFi only in lobby and restaurant — but decent quality.
Solid room overall.
- thick walls
- hot shower (it’s a true blessing to have consistent hot water if you’ve stayed in safaris in Kenya and Tanzania)
- Hair dryer (!)
- water kettle and tea bags
- cookies (!) if you have sweet tooth
- fridge
- comfy bed and pillow
- shampoo, hair conditioner, shower gel, soap bars, body lotion — all available in pump bottles in the room
Dinner - great quality. Table service for appetizers and soup were attentive and friendly. Great variety of the buffet. Filtered water provided as well.
Breakfast - decent variety. One of the best coffees compared to other camps or lodges around Ngorongoro or Serengeti I’ve tried.
The restaurant had great ambiance especially at night. High ceiling. Felt grand.
Staff were all helpful. There’s an explicit “group tipping box” policy written, that guests could NOT tip individual staff members — so you’d be able to avoid awkward moments of porters expecting tips every time like you’d experience elsewhere (where there’re usually also a tipping box for guests finishing the stay to show appreciation), especially if you’re not coming from a country with tipping culture for every service received.
Very small teething issues or things to note if you stay here:
1. The toilet flush is “slow” requiring more time in between flushes — so just allow for more time between presses. But having experienced flushing toilets which didn’t even work in other lodges in Tanzania, it’s not too bad.
2. No blackout curtains (but if you wake up around sunrise which’s very likely for long drives or game drives, not an issue)
Please keep up the good work.
