I was trying out a LOT of things in order to bring family when they visit. It's a meat and 3 but I ordered 2 extra veggies to try. Hand breaded chicken fingers, squash casserole, hashbrown casserole, deviled eggs, baked mac n cheese, fried okra, roll and sweet tea. 😋 It was great. Some of it reminded of family dinners. I would recommend and will go back to try other things.

Google
This is the best kept secret in Hamilton County! Find your way to this charming country-style cafe for a hearty meat and three meal that is perfectly prepared, attractively served, and economically priced. Service is fantastic every time I’ve been. And the food…oh yeah….the food!

Google
I try to find the positive in most situations, but I have very little nice to say about this place… PROS veggies and sweet potatoes were fantastic CONS onion rings are not cooked… see picture Our server took our order and I guess clocked out because we never saw her again… My wife’s chicken was cooked with 0 spices… like not even salt and pepper… this is the south, not England!?!? Size of the “Large burger”, imagine a normal size bun you get at the store. Now imagine the patty you would get if you thought it was a large burger… this thing was as thin as a quarter and the tomato was wider than the patty. I think there was at least salt on the patty, but that’s about it… to say it was mid is an understatement… Price, almost 40 dollars for the most disappointing, un flavored, no service meal is criminal… This place is one of my wife’s childhood memories and it sucks that this memory is now shattered for her… I hope yall don’t have to experience what we did if you chose to come here

Google
Wonderful experience. Good food. Extensive menu. A lot of good side dishes. We had the squash casserole, slaw, potato salad, deviled eggs and mash potatoes w/brown gravy. I had the tenders and she had the chicken and dressing. The portions are satisfying. We had a delightful time and had a fantastic dining experience. Thank you Countryside Cafe!

Google
Countryside Café is absolutely my favorite place in town to eat! Yes, it’s a small business, but that’s what makes it so special. The interactions from staff are delightful and everyone there is respectful. The food is delicious and the dessert is even more amazing. My wife and I come here at least once a week and don’t regret it ever. If you want good country cooking and happy faces, come here, don’t go to Cracker Barrel, where it’s fake and not genuine.

Jana B.

Google
I don't what they do to the food, but it is the best I have ever had! Whether it is the mouthwatering creamed spinach, fried okra and perfectly seasoned grilled catfish or the banana pudding, it is like no other! Worth the 90 mile one way just to eat there! The service is amazing, they truly work as a team to make sure everything is perfect. Can't wait to go back!!

Google
So my husband and I have just left countryside. Very disappointed. Me being in a wheelchair it’s harder to get in and out of places like this but there was absolutely no way to even get to the door to even try the food. We drove for an hour to eat here. We knew the food must be good the parking lot was packed . We would have been incredibly loyal regulars if we could have gotten inside to a table. But I refuse to try a restaurant by ordering it from door dash if I can’t get in the door. Super disheartening for sure. Would give 0stars if that was even an option we went all around the building and no way at all to get in . All I wanted was to go in sit down and enjoy dinner with my husband . And it was purely impossible!. First, we went by the big swing, which I thought was absolutely beautiful and very well crafted. Then the spiral columns were absolutely beautiful as well, but there was a bench in the way so you could not get through between the bench and the spiral when you go to the other side where there’s another ramp, you have signage there you have like Informational stands there the whole brochures and stuff and the spiral column there and you cannot get a wheelchair through there we tried both ways. We went around the building. See if it was a back entrance. We worked our way around the entire place and there was so much clutter around the entrances that we could not get my wheelchair through There And we tried for 30 minutes so I don’t know how if I call and someone will come out and assist I mean, I know how to operate my wheelchair. My husband does too. I appreciate the offer, but until the clutter is removed from out in front of the building, there’s no way and the parking spots in the front there needs to be one that is left open for someone in a wheelchair to get through but the cement bumper in the front you can’t get a wheelchair between those if I could have then I would’ve been able to make it

Google
We use to love this place. Not sure if ownership changed or what but not for the good. We went in tonight and they served my daughter raw chicken tenders! Not just in the middle raw but pink visible from outside. For four of us we spend around $85 dollars when we go in . And even after raw chicken zero discount was offered. Not good customer service. By the time my daughter got new plate of tenders she couldn't eat the other one because she was just disgusted. We won't be back and thats sad because its one place we all could agree on that we use to love.

Yelp
I love their variety of vegetables! The service is consistently wonderful. The kids menu selection can't be beat.

Sonny C.

Yelp
If you like country cooking this is the place to go. The menu is amazing and the staff is very helpful and fast.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Food is fresh made to order and delicious. The people who work here are awesome friendly attentive. Couldn't ask for better. The restaurant is small, but spotless. I come all the time. The wings are to die for, dont forget to get them.

Bob S.

Yelp
I have never had anything that wasn't to my satisfaction and the service is great. A very good place to take your complete family and not worry about kids seeing things they shouldn't.

Harry S.

Yelp
Another reviewer said this place served nursing home style food. All I can say is if I have the need to go into a nursing home, my first choice will be Countryside Cafe. Been going here for nearly 20 years and it's always consistent, southern style home cooking! I drive 20 miles just to patronize this restaurant!

Mason S.

Yelp
I just ate lunch at Countryside cafe and quite frankly the service was TERRIBLE the waitress was rude and actually tossed the basket with cornbread and rolls. The food I ordered was lukewarm at best and I just wasn't a good experience.

Yelp
"Man, it feels good to be country again," at least that's how Thomas Rhett put it, but you'll totally feel like you've "gone country" when you step into this southern restaurant in Ooltewah, just outside of Chattanooga. It's a favorite of the locals, so that means more than you know, because Tennessee folk know when the sweet tea and n roasted chicken are made right. They sure do it all right at Countryside. They have an amazing daily selection of side dishes, along with main courses and specials of the day to select from, but my go-to favorite is then roasted chicken, the sweet potatoes, sliced up and sauced up, and the black eyed peas. Save room for dessert, because the coconut cream pie will have you thinking your grandma was hiding in the back, whipping up that perfectly flaky pie crust and sky high meringue topping, just for you! Mmmm, so good! Now that you know, you better go!
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Food tastes like a nursing home cafeteria. Tried it a few different times and kept getting the same results.

Starr H.

Yelp
We were looking for some home cooking when we stumbled upon you. The meals were absolutely delicious!! Got some cake and pie to go Staff super friendly

Gladys H.

Yelp
Recently visited Countryside to get some great and tasty food. Was not disappointed! Tried the fried chicken livers, mashed potatoes with gravy, hamburger steak, cabbage, pinto beans, and Mac and cheese. It was all awesome. And, then we tried the cocoa cola cake and homemade banana pudding. OMG! I didn't think anyone ever made banana pudding anymore. But, they do here. There was no meringue on top but it tasted just like my mom's. Cocoa cola cake was terrific too! But, that banana pudding was unbelievably good! Thanks Countryside! It was all delightful.

Yelp
I've eaten here many times. It's a very good home cooking restaurant. I enjoy their chicken livers, fried pork chops, and chicken and dressing. This plate however was on the lighter side. The baked macaroni was really good. The star of this this plate is absolutely the fried okra. It's light and crispy with a cornmeal crust. It's outstanding! The white beans are also well seasoned. The service is always great here, as they split tips and want to do well, so you just ask any server for anything you need. It's hard to have a favorite server as they all are good. The restaurant is always busy with plenty of locals and men and women working close by. It's not always quiet, but it is always just good people enjoying good food. You won't be disappointed. They have a plethora of desserts to try if you can fit it in after the lunch. A regular lunch will average around $13-$18 but it is so worth it. I've paid $13 for a so-so meal at a burger chain. This is way better.

Yelp
I ate at Countryside again yesterday and, as always, the food was wonderful. I had hamburger steak topped with onions and bell peppers, fried okra (this is the only place I know serves real fried okra rather than that breaded stuff), mashed potatoes and sliced tomatoes. I'll admit that the mashed potatoes were not spectacular but everything else was. ESPECIALLY THE HAMBURGER STEAK! I've been going to Countryside for about ten years now. The food is always good! If you want basically a home cooked meal, you cannot do better than Countryside.

Yelp
Saw Countryside Cafe on Yelp! And they had good ratings and a good health department score. Made a 30 minute drive to eat there. We arrived about 1:45, the outside was a little run down looking, but the inside was clean, well kept and well decorated. Not that crowded when we arrived. My son got the country fried steak and mashed potatoes, both with brown gravy, "baked" Mac and cheese, and pan fried okra. He liked his country fried steak, the mashed potatoes were very dry and basically inedible, the okra was cold and over cooked, the "baked" Mac and cheese did not appear to be baked at all. It looked like Kraft Mac and cheese cooked in a pot. (see attached photo). My son actually told me that Kraft was better than what he got here. Also got cornbread muffins and the were so dry you could not eat them without taking a drink with every bite. I got chicken and dressing, collard greens, pan fried okra and hash brown casserole. The chicken and dressing was ok. The collard greens were delicious. The collard green juice came in very handy in helping to eat the severely dry cornbread. Hash brown casserole was a disaster. No "brown" to it at all (see photo). It was not done and it was just a big goopy mess. Okra as described before, cold and over cooked. Service was good. I had very high hopes for this place. They did not deliver on the day we were there. We paid way too much for the quality of food we received on this day. I think this is a one time deal for me. Won't be back.

Yelp
Great food and great country cooking. 10/10! Recommend to anybody in the area visiting and wanting to try something new.

Yelp
Took my father here when I first moved to the area in January, 2024. Great family atmosphere and excellent comfort food!

Gloria M.

Yelp
We have been here many times! We've enjoyed the brisket grilled cheese sandwiches, the Philly cheesesteak, the fish sandwich, the house salad with grilled chicken and the country fried steak! We keep coming back! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Good food. Country food. Love the pies. The owners are always nice. Servers stay on top of refills, etc.
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Everything taste like it comes out of a can. If I wanted that kind of food, I could cook at home. Many people enjoy it. I am not one of them. When I go out to eat, I expect top-notch food for my money. Do not be surprised if you do not get that.

Carra M.

Yelp
Holy WOW! The food and service were amazing. My only complaint is that for a small roadside restaurant I thought $50+ was a bit much $ for 2 people at lunch.

Lindsey G.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place because I did when I ate here years ago. The service was friendly and it was a cozy setting but we did not like almost anything we ordered. I think the quality of the food has gone downhill and I hope they can address it. We ordered chicken dressing and gravy (very strange taste), fried okra (mushy), mashed potatoes (good). My husband got fried fish and fried chicken livers and okra. In the end we got a to-go box so we could bring our food home for our dog :( I hope they can work on the the food because it was expensive for something we didn't like. I don't usually leave low stars, but hope this will help them look at their kitchen prep and try some of their own food. A lot of people must be happy with it though because it seemed plenty busy!

Yelp
Great home cooked meals. Good service. Located away from it all. One of our weeknight go tos for comfort food.

K C.

Yelp
This is a good place to eat. I would recommend it. I got a cheeseburger, tots, and sweet tea. Very good especially the tea. Service is different because all the servers assist you. I didn't know that at first and couldn't figure out why the person who took the order didn't come back. The place is not huge but didn't have to wait but a minute for a Friday. It is a country style restaurant and clean. Will eat here again.

Chip C.

Yelp
The food is good as well as the service. It is a family restaurant with home style cooking. We go on Wednesday nights for prime rib and 2 for 1 desserts. I recommend the keylime pie and the strawberry shortcake with ice cream.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure what's happened at this place. You don't see the owners much anymore and the food quality has drastically hit the floor. I ordered a simple cheeseburger and a fish sandwich, both with fries and a banana pudding. $39!!!! To go. I waited 45 min. I didn't check the box when I left, and when I got home, I opened the boxes to find barely cooked fries and the sandwiches not prepared correctly. The pudding tasted as if it were clabbered. I was not a happy camper. I called to complain and got a manager on duty. She didn't even listen to what I had to say, just asked for my name and said they would re-do the order and have it delivered. The time was 8:15 pm or so when i called. I would have rather had a credit to come back because of the time. The other order was delivered by the same guy who handed me my order at the restaurant, obviously did not check it the first time. We'll, I took it inside, and it still wasn't right. Not to mention that the cheeseburger tasted "old". Like it was cooked on a dirty griddle. We threw away the food. I used to like eating here. Won't visit here anymore.
google avatar

Dee P.

Yelp
Came here for the stuffed peppers since they only service it on Thursday night. Got here at 5:30pm and they were already out. Also out of meatloaf. It wasn't crowded so I'm not sure what the problem was with the supply. This place is going down hill.

Karen R.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced for the quality and quantity of food served. What used to be home cooked now seems all canned or frozen.
google avatar

Hilda B.

Yelp
The food was great. The service was good. I ordered the country FRIED steak, But I was brought the country STYLE steak. I didn't complain. I didn't want to be that customer. Lol. It was ok. The sides mashed potatoes, corn and Mac and cheese. Which were all delicious. My husband ordered chicken livers. With greens, mashed potatoes, and broccoli raisin bacon salad(which was awesome) The tea was very sweet. But really good. When I checked in on my Yelp, I received a free desert. They honored it, no problem. I chose coconut cream pie. Not to expensive. You get alot of food.

Larry F.

Yelp
If you like Southern cooking this is a place for you. We had dinner there tonight everything except one item was great. I had the Meatloaf and my wife had the fried chicken livers both of which were great. Loved the biscuits and corn bread. All of the sides were great with the exception of the fried okra which was hard and woody. The deserts are great so do not miss out if your too full take one with you. Great food and Friendly service, my kind of place.
google avatar

Becky H.

Yelp
I don't know what's happen to the countryside cafe. It use to be one of my favorite places to eat home cooked meals. But the last couple of times I've been there I had to throw some of it away. It was close to being burnt.
google avatar

Lora E.

Yelp
Food was authentic country cooking. The white beans was just what I expected. The food reminds me of a good after church potluck. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
We love CSC! It's been a go to for us since we moved to Chattanooga. Best Okra, best grilled shrimp, best pinto beans, best best best.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
It was an outstanding experience! The food was excellent and portions huge. The staff was friendly and polite. Julia our server was great. She took excellent care of us. Thanks for the brownies!! We will definitely be back.

Stephen R.

Yelp
While we were so excited to eat here and loved the place, in our recent visit my wife had a very good meatloaf and mashed potatoes, the okra was like eating cardboard. I had the prime rib which was just OK, the sweet potato casserole was delicious but the horseradish sauce was terrible. Service was very good and felt welcome.
google avatar

Gene N M.

Yelp
Great place for meat and 3 sides. I usually don't care for meat/3 places. Most just open a can and call it done. This little place is good cooking, like I do at home. Except I'm not the one cooking and cleaning up afterwards. Sometimes we may go in and have to wait a few for service or a glass refill, but I try to remember the waitress is human too. If they served bad food with a slow waitress then I may judge more harshly. Their hamburgers are really good also. And the dessert is to die for, especially banana pudding, (get it warm). Yummy!

Daniel W.

Yelp
Swung in for the first time the other day. Had a double patty burger from their menu. It was cooked to my specifications and was quite delicious. The only negative was that the hamburger patties did not seem to have enough seasoning. The fried okra I had with my burger was delicious. I will be going back to this café in the future.
google avatar

Tony K.

Yelp
This place is canned food heated up. That's it. As long as your expectations are in line with what the place is, then it will be fine for you. Once you are seated things go fairly quickly. Just be prepared that you are not getting anything that is actually cooked onsite.
google avatar

Andee H.

Yelp
Omg it's like my grandmother's were back there in the kitchen cooking. Fabulous food, friendly staff...portions were huge. Food was delicious. I cant say enough good things. Clean and decorated cute. Desserts were awesome.

Shelley S.

Yelp
Countryside Cafe is a family owned restaurant that has wonderful, homemade country cooking. I'm a vegetarian and I really appreciate that they don't put pork in their greens or any of their vegetables, which is very unusual in the South. They have daily specials written on whiteboards, and if they happen to have green bean casserole or broccoli rice casserole, be sure to try them! Just like mom used to make. My only complaint would be they serve most of the veggies/sides in tiny bowls, so sometimes the veggie plates are not very filling, unless you order the salad. But the House salad usually has yummy homegrown-tasting tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese, and homemade ranch dressing. Filling up would probably not be a problem if you ordered one of their meat entrees. I understand they're very good. Save room for dessert... homemade banana pudding and wonderful strawberry shortcake!
google avatar

Omega C.

Yelp
This place is THE BEST Southern food restaurant I have ever been to. There are so many things on the menu I haven't been able to have in years just because the only place I knew that had them was my grandmas kitchen states away from here. The staff is very kind and welcoming, makes it feel just like home. I love the rotating specials that they have, it always encourages me to try something new. On Wednesday the desserts are half off, so that is a good time to go. On weekends you can expect it to get pretty busy from the after church crowd, but it is worth the wait. They also do take out, and I always get more food than I can eat for a great price. I only have good things to say about Countryside Cafe!
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
This is so far the best country restaurant I have ever been too. No where in my life have I seen so many sides you can order. I counted 37. Wow enough said. Our waitress said sometimes they have even more. Some of the special sides I saw were; pineapple casserole, squash casserole and a few other casseroles. They have fried okra too. Now for the main course, I got chicken and dressing see pic. There is a lot to be said here. Customer service excellent. If you go on Sunday remember that they open at 10:30 and close at 2:30. So, you have four hours. I would suggest getting there no later than 1:30 to allow time to look at menu, special board menu, place your order and have time to eat and not be rushed. I am going to say if you had to rate this restaurant on a scale of 1 - 5, it is a perfect 7. Here's why, the portions of food you get is bigger than average. Also, the number or sides you get is more than the average which is 3 sides with your main course. The price was at a good value too. Any restaurant you go to and the parking lot is full, you are at a great restaurant. Our waitress was professional and friendly yet very knowledgeable about what they offer. My friend kept asking her questions and the waitress knew the answers which were all about food. Overall, to put this restaurant into perspective, you get fresh, delicious southern cuisine at its best. Stay full all day with country cooking from Tennessee at Country Side Cafe with a taste of southern hospitality you feel at home. We felt comfortable coming here even though it was our first visit. Finally, my friend can be critical of her food, but she was not here. She was happy and took home a to go box and said it was better than Cracker Barrel. I agreed with her.
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
Still the best home cooking in the tri county area. Everything is great. The chicken livers may be the best I have had. Prime rib is excellent. Chicken and dressing days are high on my list. On top of the many dinners. They have excellent sides. You get to pick three sides and would be rare your not taking home leftovers from the portions they give You think it can't get better then comes the many homemade deserts. My favorite all around home cooking place in Tennessee.

Yelp
We sort of drive by here twice a year on our way to the mountains. We usually make a point to stop here. It is a bit out of our way but normally worth the detour. However, these recent reviews, posted in 2022, are concerning me. We used to love their fried chicken and their vegetables, not to mention the luscious desserts. Have the owners made any response to these very negative reviews that have appeared for 2022?
google avatar

Sheldon C.

Yelp
Stopped in today for lunch with my wife. While it's a little bit of a drive for us, it was well worth the trip. The place is right off of a four way stop and easy to find. There is plenty of parking although there was a steady flow of people in and out. Always a good sign for a restaurant. While it is not meant to be a fine dining experience, the place is a little older but well kept and clean, and the food was excellent. As the name suggests, it's simple southern country cooking at its best. I ordered the fried pork chops, mash potatoes, Mac & Cheese, and apple sauce (meat and 3 sides). My wife order the pit grilled ham and her 3 sides. The portions are plenty big for one person but cane easily satisfy two people. Actually we concentrated on my 2 pork chops and took the ham home. The fried pork chops were awesome! The batter was nice and flavorful without being heavy and greasy. Very similar taste to a German schnitzel. The Mac & Cheese was stick to the ribs heavy, creamy and cheesy good. The ham was also good with a little bit of grilled flavor but for us the pork chops were the hit. Although we were full, my wife also wanted to try dessert. We ordered a slice of egg custard pie which was almost a quarter of the pie. A little on the sweet side but it was freshly made and good. A dusting of nutmeg and cinnamon on top with whipped cream. Folks, you won't leave this place hungry. The food is good and the wait staff is friendly. Not much more to say than if you're in the mood for good old southern country cooking this place will certainly hit the spot.

Yelp
Just Amazing! This is our favorite place because it's homemade and everyone is friendly and they have good service most every time. Service n food matters!

Yelp
This place is one of my favorites! Good "home cooked" meal. The food is delicious and service always very friendly. Now you can even conveniently get it thru their drive thru if need be. I highly recommend the buttermilk pie. The creamed spinach is also one of my favorite vegetables to order.

Holden W.

Yelp
Good veggie plates get it at least once a week Real nice folks work here always feel welcome
