Court Hotel Utrecht City Centre (Utrecht, Netherlands) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Even by Dutch standards Utrecht is old; the city’s original courthouse can trace its foundations to the year 1054. The building you see here today is mostly a 19th-century affair, but it’s still plenty atmospheric — and thanks to its new owners, its historic architecture is complemented by contemporary design, resulting in a very 21st-century boutique-hotel experience. Rooms are colorful but never garish, decorated with photo prints from the city’s (and the court’s) history, and furnished with sensible comforts like espresso machines and free wi-fi. De Rechtbank, the hotel’s restaurant, is a local favorite in its own right." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed in one of the canal-side rooms ("Justice"), which have been converted from old underground vaults. The layout was quirky, but made a imaginative and effective use of the space; would recommend if you want something a little more interesting than a conventional room. Just bear in mind the canal rooms are a minute's walk from the hotel for breakfast and access involves some steep steps down to canal level. I thought it might be cold being underground, but the heating is excellent and I was toastie. You do get a little unobtrusive noise from vehicles passing on the road overhead, water drainage to the canal outside and the bells from the Domtower, but with the bed at the back of the room, and no worries about noise from neighbouring rooms as you might have in a normal hotel room, I slept soundly (and I'm a very light sleeper). The breakfast and staff in the hotel all good too. Overall, very much enjoyed.

Court Hotel is in an excellent location for first time visitors to Utrecht. It is a short walk to the Dom Tur and then just beyond that is a vibrant neighborhood of shops and restaurants along canals. As a musician, I enjoyed hearing the tower carillon in my room. I walked behind the hotel one day and found a beautiful residential neighborhood and large green park along another canal. The staff at Court could not have been more cordial or helpful. Luca was especially helpful with directions and interesting things to do in the city and Frey always had a cheerful response to requests. I would stay here again. However, I would use public transportation to get there. It is nice they have garage spaces available, but they are not attached and the location has its challenges.

I stayed at the Court Hotel in Utrecht and honestly, it just didn’t live up to the price. The staff were super friendly, which I really appreciated, but everything else felt a bit disappointing.||There was no attention to detail — the shampoo and shower gel were almost empty, the toilet paper roll was nearly finished, and there wasn’t even a full-length mirror in the room. The bed was way too soft, and to top it off, the TV didn’t have any regular channels — just internet apps. So unless you have your own Netflix or Prime account, you can’t really watch anything.||My room was in a separate building quite far from the main one, and it felt pretty isolated. The door opened straight onto the public street/canal, so anyone could walk right up or knock, which wasn’t the most comfortable feeling.||The only real positives were the friendly staff and the super central location — you can easily walk anywhere in the city. But overall, for what you pay, it really didn’t feel like good value for money.

This is a centrally located but beautifully quiet hotel, in an old court house. Entertaining photos of the buildings past. Pleasant, clean, well equipped rooms, friendly staff. Priced reasonably for what it offers. Breakfast could be more interesting.

Great hotel right in the centre of Utrecht. We were visiting our son who is a student at the university. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Will definitely use again when we return.

Like other reviews, location is great, very central so you have lots of attractions within reach. Personally I found lots of cons. The males staffs are really nice to me. I talked to two and found they were helpful and attentive. The female one gave me rather curt answers and I had to press more to get help and Info. One of them asked the male receptionist “will you really do that” when he said he would take the luggages to my room which is detached from main building where they the reception is. She asked this in front of me. In english. Disbelieve what she heard, I guess. So did I, when she asked. The hotel is catered more to business functions. Probably small local books. I assume this because the reception counter is direct in the foyer, right in front of their main door under their staircase and 2 meter wide. There wasn’t a lobby. I didn’t see any sofa to sit on. I guess guests should wait at one of their restaurant tables or bar tables which seem to have couches resembling “reception” a little more. I stayed in the underground room right next to one of Utrecht’s small canals. Room door opened inward and halfway. Because there is this drain pipe blocking it. At night I could hear each car drove by. Because the alley is right above me. Shower was moldy and shower soap was almost empty. Its bottle looked neglected. Wifi didn’t work. Signal was weak. I couldn’t use from my bed. TV also had weak signal. It froze constantly. But the room is premium. You pay extra from these. So, yep I am afraid to see their normal rooms. Two stars I gave, i gave for the men who manned the desk. Poor them

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good night's sleep. The hotel is located right next to a student residence, and during our stay, it was absolutely impossible to sleep. Loud music and shouting continued in the courtyard – directly outside our window – until 2 a.m. Despite this, the hotel did nothing to address the situation.||It is unacceptable for a hospitality business to sell rooms where guests simply cannot rest. A hotel should ensure a minimum standard of comfort and peace, and this was completely lacking. Very disappointing.

Absolutely loved it, from the very friendly greeting at reception, to the beautiful room, the overall hotel it very well kept and very clean and tidy, the staff are so lovely and a credit to the hotel, they made us feel so welcome, nothing was any trouble, the evening meal we had was also very nice and at a reasonable price. We will be more than happy to stay again. Thank you 😊

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Court Hotel for a conference I was speaking at. Our plane arrived really early (5:45AM from the US), and we arrived well before checkin, but were utterly exhausted. I asked if they could possibly try to manage an early checkin, and Sally at the front desk said she'd try to do what she could. She managed to get us in at 10AM, which is even before normal guest checkout! I don't know how she managed it, but it was such a relief to be able to lay down and recover from the 15 hours of travel. The room was great, the wifi was free and strong (and didn't do that awful thing that hotels often do, where you have to sign in with your room number, and if you close your laptop, you get disconnected and have to go through that login again. It seems trivial, but as a computer programmer, it's a real nuisance.) The included breakfast buffet was lovely, and they even offered to print out my train tickets that the conference organizer emailed me and I stupidly forgot to print out before leaving. No charge. I absolutely love this place, and would gladly stay there again. The front desk staff was always friendly and enormously accommodating (and Sally is an absolute rock star). The fact that they didn't nickel-and-dime over small things like wifi and printing stuff out was a welcome relief from large hotel chains that want to charge you for every tiny thing. The single thing I do wish was different is that the bathroom lights are very dim, which makes it difficult to put on makeup. If you have a lighted travel mirror, you may want to bring it for this hotel. (If they added one of those lighted, adjustable makeup mirrors to their rooms, it would be absolute perfection.)

Yelp
This hotel is situated in a wonderful location with pretty much everything you want and need in walking distance. Getting there is perhaps slightly more difficult because it is in an old town centre, but a cab will always get you there. Friendly and helpful staff. The interior of the building is rather lacking in charm considering the building and location, but it still looks high end enough (looks, not 'is'). The rooms look comfortable and high end on a superficial level, but on closer inspection it is all rather tired and cheap. The rooms do seem spacious and have practically all facilities and plenty of pillows. The beds are in the small side and seem to cater to heavier people rather than people with a healthy BMI. As is standard in continental hotels, a shower, but it is fine. Considering the size of the rooms they could have easily made room for a bath and give customers a choice of showering or bathing (especially at that price). Breakfast is by far the biggest let down. The seating is as if you are at a mid-market café at a busy train station. The choice of food is a complete level with a lack of warm choices. I do not understand European hotels with their emphasis on pastries and sweet things for breakfast (at least this is in keeping with their beds aimed at bigger customers). I would have liked more choice, more warm food and more savoury. Also more comfort and better eye for detail.
