I visit this building almost every day. It was built to replace the former buildings on the Britselei. The architects chose for the extensive use of glass in order to emphasize the transparency of the workings of Lady Justice. The building uses quality materials, with the Salle des Pas Perdus (Hall of Lost Footsteps) being particularly impressive. The building has proved not to be without problems though. The monumental steps have to be shut in cold weather because the wood becomes slippery in rain and frost. The glass roof, with its numerous rubber seals, has a tendency to leak in heavy rain, so there is always a bucket out ready to catch the drips. The signing to the various offices and courts is not particularly clear, so that you have to ask your way at the reception desk to get anywhere and in the way of public officials all over the world, the occupants hang untidy sheets of paper out telling you where and where not to go.
On the positive side is the friendliness of the reception desk, which has to be balanced by the surliness of the security service that currently subjects you to a full body scan and X-rays your briefcase every time you visit.
