We stayed at The Courthouse Hotel, Shoreditch for one night over Christmas, booking a Premier Suite.||The suite itself was very large, clean, modern, and comfortable, with plenty of space. However, the hotel as a whole gave a strange first impression. The reception area feels very worn and tired, and on arrival the hotel came across more like a business conference hotel than a leisure stay. It’s quite depressing.||Because of this, we didn’t initially explore the hotel or use the facilities as it’s very off putting. The reception in service is also very poor. It was only at checkout that we discovered there is actually a decent bar, a bowling alley, and a swimming pool, which are worth checking out. It’s a shame the first impression is the worn out reception area with disinterested staff. ||The hotel is dark, with very limited natural light, which adds to the underwhelming atmosphere. The location is okay, but not outstanding. We chose the hotel because it was a cheap option for a London stay, and for that reason it served its purpose. However, if you’re visiting London for leisure and want to be in the middle of the action, there are far better options closer to the centre. Indeed, if we were to go again in that area, we would book the new art hotel down the road as we walked past and had a drink in their bar on our way back from shopping. It was a similar price. ||Overall, a fair room for the price but the hotel experience doesn’t quite match it. Worth considering if price and space matter most, but don’t expect a polished or welcoming first impression.
