The Marriott string of hotels started as a small A&W root beer stand in 1927 and shifted to the hotel business in the 50s. This location is in the heart of downtown Bostons business district.
I was booked a room here by my new job that I was training for in Boston for a week. Not knowing the area, I was amazed at how busy it is. The hotel is right in the center of Bostons business district and the traffic/pedestrians are insane.
Obviously, there's no parking lot being downtown. There is a parking garage across the street, which is $34 a night. The inside of the hotel is very nice. Big ballroom in the lobby, nice little bar/restaurant off to the side.
My room had been booked days in advance, but my room wasn't ready when I showed up at 315. It was finally ready about an hour later. Room was nice. Large bed, desk, wall mounted TV directly across from the bed. Small bathroom, but good sized stand up shower, big mirror and plenty of sink space.
The room lacked a couple standard things you'd expect in a hotel. No fridge, no microwave, so you're not really able to keep/heat leftover food or bring your own drinks. Walls are pretty thin. You can hear some muffled noises from adjoining rooms. No pool.
They also don't have any type of room service. You have to order from their restaurant and pick it up and bring it to your room. They also don't have menus in their rooms, so you'll have to go to the bar for that as well. Each time I ordered food, I ordered right at the bar. The phone line to their restaurant rings and rings without being answered.
Restaurant food is alright. Nothing amazing, but it works if you don't want to go out or order anything. Not a ton of choices on their menu, but enough for everyone to be able to find something.
Employees are nice, willing to help. Some seem a little uninformed of some details of the hotel. But they were always pleasant and did their best to assist me. For some reason, two sets of keys I had for my room stopped working, and the front desk was up within a couple minutes with new keys for me both times.
TV choices were limited and no guide to help you find what's on. Normal WiFi is included and worked fine for all my devices. Faster speed WiFi is available for an extra charge. Commissary is decently stocked. Not a ton of choices, but enough stuff to choose from when you want a quick snack/drink or need a common medicine.
Decent amount of restaurants around, but most are chinese food or pizza. Not a lot of diversity in choices. Theatre district is close and other entertainment is within walking distance or a short drive.
Overall, it's a decent hotel. Could use a couple simple things to make it more a enjoyable experience, but if you can accept the insane traffic and parking prices, it's a decent place to stay short term.
