I can't say enough great things about my experience with this hotel for a small (10 people) meeting over the course of 2 days. Ashlynn was so great to work with on all things booking! She had a high level of communication and quick turn around time on emails. |Carson was incredible helping me with food and was accommodating to several odd requests our team had such as a birthday celebration. |I will hands down be back for business trips and personal trips in the future!

This his hotel is very clean, well run, and just a 10 minute walk from key shopping areas, restaurants, and the Charleston market with plenty of historical landmarks nearby. We made a last-minute weekend trip to Charleston and most of the hotels we stay at right near the Market were booked, so this was an easy choice and we were very happy with it. The outdoor pool faces south, southeast and gets direct sun all morning. Even with a low of 60° and high of 72° in early November it was definitely warm enough to take a quick dip after a workout at the exercise room, which is just a few steps away. The exercise room is on the small side but adequately equipped with a number of ellipticals, treadmills, stationary cycles, a small selection of free weights, step box, and stretch bands - better equipped than most hotels in this range. The rooms, public area, pool, exercise rooms, and café are immaculately clean, and the restaurant does offer a good selection of well prepared food. If you are looking for full amenities, an upscale in-house restaurant, 24 hour room service, an indoor pool, etc this is not it, but the Courtyard by Marriott in the Charleston Historic District is a great choice whether you are seeking value or just a convenient location near downtown Charleston.

We booked 3 nights Oct 16-19. The room is in good size. Check in and out is easy. The location is good. The room is VERY basic. We paid top price for this weekend to attend a wedding. There is not even a bottle of water. Nothing is in the mini fridge. The bathroom is very basic. No cosmetic amenities at all. The shower set is 80's. We didn't ask for room full service rather jut for room cleaning and tidying. However, the popcorn we dropped on the floor and bed from the night before were still there after their cleaning. The cleaner doesn't speak a word of English.

I coordinated a business meeting for 46 guests to stay at Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Historic District. I worked with Ashlynn Hill, Carson Kosar and Tess Schwemmer. Coordinating a meeting this large always involves many changes. Ashlynn was on top of everything and made changes daily for my team. Carson ensured that I ordered the correct media equipment and ordered the best meals for our group. Thank you also to Jay Bryant, Caddy, Destiny, and Heather. Great Experience.

Room was clean. We were on the go a lot so there wasn't too much down time in the room. Our biggest complaint was the pillows. All four were lumpy and uncomfortable. Not too happy with this when we wanted to call it a day. The staff were very helpful. We did enjoy the location. Very convenient to King St, East Bay, the market and tons of other downtown restaurants and places to see without the need to drive.

A lovely, large hotel: clean, classy in parts, good ambience and decor; and 2 nice and helpful staff in Rhiannon and Austin 🤗(an exception was a receptionist, who didn't know where the tourist information centre was nor how to direct us! We had to help her😐). ||Our room was spacious (as we'd paid for / requested); albeit with 2 large beds for a double room! ||The hotel is well situated, making it relatively easy to walk to various places of interest, restaurants, shops, etc. It has an external swimming pool and sitting area (inside and out). There is also a biggish library, and 2 PCs to use. Furthermore, it was 'refreshingly' lovely to have easy access to chilled water (although surely providing water in the room for new arrivals isn't too much to ask; especially given the heat!). ||In terms of negatives:||1. The 'complimentary' wifi' was problematic. We finally got this resolved, with the help of Austin; getting in touch with the hotel's internet provider and they connected us externally. However, it meant 3 days without any connection on our phones (which worked fine around the rest of Charleston!);||2. Housekeeping staff were VERY slow to make up the room (mostly done late afternoon)! Once they forgot to dress the bed! ||3 It was disappointing to have 2 large beds, with the side tables between the two. Consequently, regardless of our bed choice, only one of us had access to a table!||4. Curiously there is no safe in rooms (but safe deposit type of facility at the reception desk; but not very private and, presumably, one would have staff standing alongside, as it's also the receptionist spot!||5. The sun beds were uncomfortable; and management should try them: I'm sure replacements will be soon ordered thereafter!||6. No recycling bins: the manager advised everything was sorted out eventually, but I advised doing it at source would be much better for core messaging, customers, and housekeeping staff: he didn't agree and I'm unconvinced!||7. It was frustrating that while coffee is well catered for, there was no kettle in the room or indeed hotel, surprisingly! Surely breakfast t-bags are not a stretch to provide, alongside a kettle for tea- drinkers; even from reception. On occasion, staff were able to procure some teabags and hot water; albeit separately. This was a cumbersome process and experience for them and us!||Tip: It's easy to get a Carta (public transport) bus from the airport, especially as it's only $3 each! Look for the semi-covered Carta bus stop; and Route 11.

Love staying here and will certainly stay again. The room was clean and pretty and the service was great. The front desk staff young woman was warm and friendly and answered all of my questions kindly, even providing helpful suggestions for local food and entertainment. Great stay! Thank you!

Google
I wish I could rank this place higher, but I'm forced to say, "Find a different place to stay." As always, I'll start with the good: The hotel's facade is beautiful and fits well with its surroundings, "charming" falls short of describing them. If we are just talking about convenience and locale, then this place gets a gold star. It's a good little walk from the market and around the corner from the shops and dining on King Street. But that's where the good ends. The property is clearly very old and borderline run down-I really expected better. I knew the restroom wasn't thoroughly cleaned because the same nasty piece of hair was stuck to the back of the dirty bathroom door the entire time. (I HATE finding other people's hair.) It was a short visit over the July 4th weekend, and I didn't want to make a fuss, so I let it go. The Happy Hour was way too expensive, and I don't even remember it being a full bar.

Yelp
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Average Rooms. Poor Internet and low shower pressure. This trip was not one where I'd be spending significant time in my room, so the focus was on location and walkability. This Courtyard delivered on that - right across the street from Marion Square, a block from King Street, and in the heart of quite a few to-do's. They do offer early check-in, for a $25 fee. They will kindly hold you bags (and in my case, my coat as well). They also don't mind if you hang out in the spacious lobby to get some work done while wrapping up you trip. I booked on points and felt I got a good value out of it. Depending on how long you'll be in Charleston, I think you could do a lot worse than the Courtyard. If I end up back in the area, I would definitely consider returning here.

Yelp
Centered in the historic district of downtown Charleston, it's quite central to a lot of places that you can walk to. You can park on the street or they offer valet parking. Alex at the front desk was helpful and very friendly, told me about the live music and happy hour they offered. My room was very spacious and the bathroom was clean but a bit outdated. I only stayed one night so I didn't get to explore their amenities but I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Okay, it was that time of the month so there was a little something something on the sheets after night one, in human. Guest services didn't change my sheets the entire stay. They cleaned the room but didn't change bedding. Our stay was 4 nights.... Do with that info what you will

Yelp
I loved this hotel! A lot of the places I wanted to see were in walking distance to the hotel. I was solo traveling and felt safe the entire stay. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and spacious and my bed was comfy! I would definitely stay here again if I am in Charleston.

Yelp
I just attended a conference in Charleston, and this was one of the presentation and reception venues. Every single piece of food served at a reception or conference break here was amazing and perfect. Based on what I saw, I would legit eat here, or buy a muffin here, despite all these food options in Charleston historic district. If you are looking for an event venue with amazing food, Courtyard Marriott in historic Charleston downtown stands out as an excellent choice. If you are looking for a bite to eat, it has a restraunt, and I know it's Charleston, and all these fancy restaurants are around, but also, all the food here was amazing.

Yelp
Love the location of this hotel! Perfectly placed in historic downtown right off of King St. Clean, updated, and a great pool area to hang in! Beds are really comfy and their staff is so kind. Overall decently quiet for the location being off of a main road. My only complaint is the hotel decor is pretty standard. Would have loved some funky local decor.

Trina W.

Yelp
Overall, this was a nice place to stay. However, it was very pricey for what I'd call the average hotel. I was excited thinking we were staying in a bougie place, but it was just average. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Valet was a necessity for the cramped area. Walking distance to alot of attractions. My biggest negative that I can't get past was the health grade for their The Bistro restaurant. It was a "B". I have literally have gotten up & left restaurants for a low A. NC has number & letter grades. SC is just the letter, so not sure if it was a high or low B, either way, I'm not eating there. I reached out to corporate. Got $27 worth of points. Shameful for a $567/night room.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 nights for a work trip and so many things went wrong - from discovering I slept in the previous guest's sheets, to finding a gecko running across our food table, and a live water bug scurrying and interrupting our meeting. I truly believe their housekeeping does the bare minimum - probably only makes the bed. To my horror, I spent my first night in the previous guest's sheets because I woke up to discover a urine stain on my bed. No, I did not wet myself - it was a clear dry stain on the sheets. When I was getting random whiffs of the urine smell the previous night, I thought perhaps it was coming from the vent on the side of the bathroom since that's where I was facing when I slept. Unfortunately my pajamas absorbed the scent and I could not wear them again. This confirms that they do not change sheets between guests but "every other day" as they keep mentioning. The phone in the room did not work so I had to go downstairs to relay my horror. I switched rooms but was not comp'ed a night nor was I offered dry cleaning services. I discovered from a few of my fellow colleagues that their doorknobs weren't working and they could not lock their doors - must be a reoccurring theme here based on what I read from another reviewer. Lunch for our conference was served outside the meeting room and I do admit the food was delicious but makes you double guess the cleanliness when you see a gecko running on the table itself and in the door leading to the back kitchen, a dead water bug and mice traps. In the middle of our meeting, my colleague was squealing because a live water bug ran across the floor. Another colleague came to the rescue to stomp it out but it truly makes me question the entire the cleanliness of this hotel. Also there are no safes in the rooms. Since this was a work trip, I only carried my ID and corporate card with me and left my wallet in the room. I left the DND sign on the doorknob and thought nothing of it. What are the chances that ALL of my personal cards got hit with fraudulent charges the night and day after I switch rooms? My 4 credit cards and 1 debit card that were left in the room but not one fraudulent charge on my corporate card - what are the chances?

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! Lobby is nice, great location. The room looks nice. Lots of space. However, wasn't super happy with the room, it has a strong smell in the room and water is dripping from the ceiling. Kind of can't believe they'd put us in a room in this condition.

Caroline P.

Yelp
We stayed for two nights. It was expensive and has only valet parking. They did not mention they charge more when you use a certain credit card. The location however is excellent. You can see all the sites by walking and there is a free shuttle that stops near the hotel. The room - There was only one towel bar, the shower gel container was empty but the room was clean and semi modern. Jason the valet was incredible, friendly and professional. He provided us with excellent suggestions on restaurants.

Tom M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this hotel, top end of Courtyards I've stayed with. Nice location near King Street action. Room was very nice, great shower, towels all the little things. Perhaps most surprising was the food. I had a flatbread for dinner and breakfast burrito and both were really good, better than some of the restaurant food around town I sampled for sure. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Yelp
It kind of seems like people are trying to actively seek out things to complain about in their reviews? It was fine. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was spacious and clean. The room was cool and nicely decorated. They were lacking some nice touches like water bottles, but no big deal. Be aware that you WILL hear church bells. It was loud!

Yelp
Not really in the heart of downtown where the market, horse carriages, restaurants are. It is in front of a gas station and a mile walk to the buzzing tourist area. We like the spacious king room with a pull out sofa and even more spacious bathroom. Housekeeping doesn't come during your stay but lobby provides fresh towels and bath mats wrapped in a laundry bag should you want a daily change of towels. We slept well and felt safe in the area. They lent us umbrellas on a stormy weekend. There's a coffee maker and fridge inside the room and lobby also has coffee until 9am only. $25 Uber ride to/from airport. Will stay closer to the action of the Historic District on Church/Meeting/Market streets on our return to Charleston. No breakfast, no perks for ambassador elite.

Yelp
What a perfect location in the heart of Charleston, walking distance to so many great places. We absolutely love the Marriott brand and the Courtyard Charleston did not disappoint. Spotless rooms, friendly and helpful staff, and good food at the restaurant. Thank you for a great visit!

Yelp
This review isn't about the hotel actually but a wonderful server named Zane. He maned the whole damn ship himself. Bartender, Chef & Server. Also smiling, also fast and makes the best drinks and food!!! So happy we are spending New Years here From The Georgia Peaches, Corey & Meagan

Yelp
Apr 2023 Don't stay at this hotel!!!!! First of all, I didn't get the room I booked. When I booked a month in advance, I called to have them note I'd be a late check-in. When I arrived, they said they didn't know I'd be a late arrival. The room I got was filthy. I kept my shoes on. I took tons of pictures and notified management. They had it "cleaned" again the next day and it was still disgusting. Oily fingerprints were all over the light fixtures, drawers, headboard, and cupboard. Dust everywhere. The sink in the bathroom had raised soap scum in it and the tile grout was black from dirt, scum, and build-up. It looked like that after a second cleaning, too. Additionally, the deadbolt wouldn't turn to lock the door from the inside. The hotel charged $300+ per night. It wasn't worth $100/night. I provided plenty of pictures but received no discount or apology at checkout. Hotels were fully booked or I would've gone elsewhere. My best friend had a separate room and hers was equally as disgusting. How the Marriott gets away with such a lack of cleanliness and charging $300+/night is heinous.

Yelp
Homeless guy in the bathroom when we checked in. They nickel and fined us for every amenity, breakfast is not included, 37 dollars to park my car. My door was broken during stay so we woke up in the middle of the night and it was open so someone could have came in.

Yelp
This is, by far, not worth $500 a night! There is no restaurant, only a "bistro" with very minimal items on the menu, there is no "M Club", no VIP Lounge, the shampoo/conditioner is in small bottles like at a cheap motel, no robes in the rooms and the rooms are very dusty and dirty, ( I mean VERY dirty and dusty, as in it has NEVER had a deep cleaning). When we checked in, there were no hangers in the closet, no complimentary nor any water bottles for purchase in the room. (The waterfront Marriott gives you complimentary water and Charleston chews in your room). Also, again, what kind of hotel still has the sample size shampoo and conditioner in it? Not any that rents for $500 a night. The rooms look like they have never been deep cleaned. The baseboards are VERY dusty and dirty, the threshold going from room to balcony was disgusting, the blinds outside that separate the balcony rooms were inch thick in dust. The chairs inside the room were not wiped down....... it's like housekeeping came in, changed the bedding, half way cleaned the bathroom and left. ‍ The only reason I didn't ask for a refund is because of the staff. The staff there are the best ever! Amari and Darrell are the sweetest! They went above and beyond the normal customer care service! I would expect customer service like that at the Ritz-Carlton, (where the rooms ARE $500 a night but WORTH $500 a night). Those guys deserve a raise, a vacation and whatever else they can get. You can't even get that kind of customer service at Chick-fil-A! I am loyal to the Marriott brand, but I really wish I would have looked at reviews on this one! Yes, the rooms are decent, but extremely dusty and unkept, especially for a newly renovated hotel. I was also told by locals that this hotel was once a Holiday Inn. It is definitely Holiday Inn standards, still. Read reviews before staying here.

Cody M.

Yelp
Posting this review after 2AM. Here for business and cannot sleep thanks to a loud group partying in the room next door. Multiple calls to front desk without resolution. Will not book here again.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
When you check into a hotel you expect it to be sparking clean but that wasn't the case here. It looked like it hasn't even been cleaned before we checked in. There was dust everywhere, sticky remnants on the headboard and side tables. We asked for it to be cleaned rather than to change rooms because we figured our room was indicative of the standard of cleanliness for the whole place and getting a new room wouldn't solve anything. At first they acted like it was a problem that we were unhappy, then housekeeping came in and validated us, saying "this is really bad" and apologized. If it weren't for the great location we would have checked out and found a new place.

Yelp
On the morning of October 22 a staff member knocked on the door while we had a "do not disturb" door hanger on the door handle and proceeded to try to enter the room while I was in the restroom. I was alone in the room and opened the door as his hand was on the door handle to enter. His excuse for trying to enter the room was he wanted to know what time we were checking out... But our check out date wasn't until the following day! Needless to say, I was very unsettled by this event and this trip (which was for our wedding anniversary) was interrupted by the actions of this staff member. A call was made to the front desk with regards to this incident as well as in person, and again upon checking out of your hotel. We were told a manager would get in touch with us to "make it right". To date we have not been contacted by anyone from Marriott. I did, however, receive an email with an $80 credit - from a nearly $900 bill. This is not "making it right" but an insult. Is this the sort of service Marriott stands behind?

Yelp
Great location. It was an easy walk to the two main streets to go get something to eat. It is a Courtyard so they have a nice cafe and a good business center. The valet was very helpful. The front desk at check in was not what I would have hoped for. I can't put my finger on it but they seemed not as welcoming as I would have liked as a Gold member or have become accustomed to. The room had a lovely view of the roof and a peek a boo view of the harbor. I was disappointed the front desk did not know where the ice machines were and which ones were not working. Don't they inspect the facilities as a matter of day to day routine? The location makes the review. Next time I look for a Marriot that has an executive lounge if one exists in Charleston. @kodiak_kuisine

Yelp
Stayed here back in May to start my vacay off! This was the perfect hotel location for a newbie in the Charleston area as it was walking distance to most attractions or a short drive as well as being a prime location. Nicely updated hotel. The day my friend and I came it began to pour down rain so there was no enjoying the pool before we set sail for our cruise however, that didn't rain on our parade. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay and check in/our process! The hotel was very clean and the housekeepers were some of the nicest you'd ever meet. The rooms were spacious and comfy. There are computers in the lobby, plenty of seating, Starbucks/ coffee in the lobby, a little convenience bar area for sodas, wine, water, etc and a fitness center. The only downside I saw was the cost of parking $20 per day for such a tight lot.

Yelp
The Courtyard Charleston Historic District is a wonderful hotel in the middle of Charleston that I have always enjoyed visiting. It is in a prime location that is convenient walking distance from everything in Charleston. The hotel is beautiful inside and well maintained and clean. The staff here is great and makes sure that all of your needs are taken care of right away and they are very attentive and quick to solve any issues. This is also a great place to do business as the meeting and conference rooms have everything that you need to have the perfect meeting or presentation. The Courtyard does it all to make sure you have the best visit and that it will be a memorable one for you and everyone that you are with. This is one of my favorite hotels in Charleston and they have been consistently great throughout the years and I look forward to being able to come here for many years in the future.

Yelp
We are on day 5 of a 9 day stay and can officially say stay away from this hotel. The highlights are definitely the location and the valet staff, but everything else has been pretty bad. I have stayed 75+ nights in Marriott hotels for the last 2 years and 50+ for years before that and this is by far one of the worst I've stayed in. The beds are hard, the room is bare bones, the hallway has smelt like sewage for 2 days, and today our toilet overflowed (this has never happened in my life). This will definitely be the last time I stay in a courtyard.

Yelp
I'm a long time Marriott devotee and this hotel definitely lived up to my standards. What stood out above all else was the high level of customer service from everyone I encountered. When I came to check in, they had a room ready for me, but I had to be difficult and request a room on a higher floor because I'm a girl who loves a view. I had to wait a little longer, maybe 45 minutes, and several people checked on me while I was waiting and they were even apologetic for the wait, even though it was my own pickiness that caused me to wait. It was WELL worth it for a top floor corner room with views of the water. The hotel itself was in a good location. Walking distance to several bars and restaurants. Parking is an extra cost and I wasn't planning on paying for it but after driving around several times with no luck, I gave in. The parking that is attached to the hotel isn't much though. There is a small garage underground along with some more spaces above, but they also have overflow parking across the street. I tried the garage once but then decided to use the lot across the street for the rest of my time because it was easier. The rates were comparable with many other places downtown, even when adding in the parking. But just knowing how nice and accommodating everyone was, I think that sets this place apart. Although, that could just be the standard for southern hospitality. Either way, I'd definitely stay again.

Yelp
Very poor service. We are titanium level with Marriott. Our experience with this hotel was subpar. Gave us a room overlooking a roof with HVAC units. Then moved us to a room that was slightly better but clearly a smoker stayed in it. Came in next day and room was not touched. No clean towels etc. they said no day to day maid service..... hmmmm? But everything is back up and running just another place cutting a corner and blaming it on covid. Bad!service.

Lee P.

Yelp
Love this Courtyard- fourth time here- always stay at this location! Great spot to leave car and walk to most of what Charleston has to offer. The entire crew, from valet to check in are friendly and knowledgeable, and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable! Having a great time while we celebrate our 25 wedding anniversary!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing to rave about. It was just ok. It was sufficient for one night of sleep. It appears to be a little outdated. Pool however was open, limit to 10 at a time, due to Covid. I did not use this amenity.

Yelp
My family just moved to South Carolina, we were just looking at the surrounding cities. We chose this hotel months ago. We were in shock about how amazing the customer service is. Our check in was quick and painless, answered all of our questions. The valet is amazing here, they are super easy going and were enjoyable people to be around. We went to the bistro for a nightcap and the bar tender was extremely nice and told us of places she enjoyed to eat for breakfast. When we got to our room it clearly clean, it was cleaned perfectly up to our standards. The location is perfect to getting to the shops and good restaurants to eat! This overall was a great experience and we can't wait to come back and stay again!

Yelp
I'm typically no fan of chain hotels. Words like 'sterile,' 'soulless,' and 'cookie-cutter' come to mind. So why am I four-stars worth of besotted with this Marriott? Read on and bear with me a bit until I get to the good stuff: Hotel itself was pretty standard. Our room was *clean enough,* though it didn't give me that "you can eat off the floor" feeling. Housekeeping, in fact, seemed a bit lackadaisical; there was one afternoon at around 4 when we were exhausted from a long day, and looking forward to relaxing in our room, and it had not yet been cleaned. Our matresses were also kind of springy, something that became even more apparent after we followed our stay here with a few nights at the Doubletree-Savannah-Historic District and enjoyed some really restful sleep on uber comfortable beds. Just sayin'. None of these were deal breakers though. Location-wise, I was initially disappointed. I expected to be surrounded by cute little shops and restaurants, and there isn't a whole lot in the immediate area. But I grew to appreciate the central location, making it a 10-20 minute walk to many points of interest. Also loved that it is right across the street from the Saturday Marion Square Farmers Market. So far, so lukewarm. Enter the gracious and welcoming staff. Especially concierge extraordinaire and internet sensation, Kevin McQuade (just check out the Trip Advisor reviews for this hotel). His enthusiastic imprint was impossible to miss: In our room, with a framed notice, imploring guests to use his services. And at the concierge desk, with his various personalized maps and instructions for enjoying Charleston, including a detailed listing of the city's best Public Restrooms. On our first night, Kevin took us on a private star-lit tour through hidden alleys and passageways, leading us on a walk to see some of the Holy City's most stately homes and gardens, He also made some great suggestions that helped shape our trip, though I am way too much of a control freak to ever let anyone else totally take over my travel itinerary:). It wasn't all about Kevin though. The other concierge (Andrea?) was lovely and the staff at the front desk was helpful and pleasant. And we had lots of random friendly exchanges with other employees as well. So you see, grasshopper, it is the people who give this otherwise little boxes on the hillside (as in the theme song from Weeds) worthy chain location heart. They are the primary reason to choose this hotel over any others in the area.

Yelp
In the Holy City for Valentine evening for a concert @ the Charleston Music Hall...this Courtyard is 1-block from the venue and centrally located to walking to many fine restaurants the next day....parking is easy although a day rate, check-in glass of vino, room clean, king bed comfy, no noise and was allowed to leave car at the hotel after check-out as we walked about the Battery and dine for lunch....I'll be back....

Yelp
Excellent stay. Walkable to many local spots. The fruit infused water in the lobby was super refreshing and always available. On site parking was simple and close. Pool was clean and never crowded. Easy snack options for sale in the lobby pantry. And a nice front patio to sit out on under the fans to enjoy some outdoor time. The view is of a gas station, but it's nice to have an outdoor spot to be.

Yelp
Overall a very good stay and I would recommend that you try this hotel. Although I was generally pleased with my stay, there were a few hiccups. The room I was in had a window AC unit that was rather loud. It wasn't terrible, but loud enough that I noticed it when it turned on. In addition, the front desk staff was not present when I arrived at 10 PM nor when I departed at 3:45 AM. It was rather strange to me that the front desk was empty while I was hanging around the lobby. There should be some method for the front desk to know if a customer is in the lobby without me having to yell "hello". Those issues notwithstanding, the hotel is quiet, clean, modern and everything was in good working order. The bathrooms were very good, the bed was comfortable and the flooring in the room was very nice! It's not often that I notice the flooring in my hotel but this flooring was some sort of tile that looked like wood and it was really nice! The elevators were very prompt and the lobby area was quite pleasant. I did not get a chance to try the restaurant. I am not sure if the price was good or not. This hotel was less costly than many similar hotels in large cities, but yet it felt a little expensive for what you get. I know it is Charleston, so there is a premium for its location near the historic district. The location was fantastic, within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. You are in the heart of the College of Charleston so expect a lot of kids during the school year. Be forewarned that there are a few vagrants hanging around the adjacent Marion Square. It wasn't a problem but be prepared to politely decline many requests for money.

Yelp
Great location in the heart of downtown, but other than that, our stay left a lot to be desired. My biggest complaint was that the staff made little effort to enforce mask-wearing, even though Charleston had a mandate, and even though the hotel had a sign saying masks were required. We saw a lot of people not wearing them, and when we complained about it to the staff, they told us "it's up to you to ask others to wear a mask". This is a blatant violation of the city ordinance. There was only 1 elevator working, which resulted in a long line to go up or down. Based on other reviews, it sounds like this has been a problem for a long time. The elevator outage was made worse by the need to social distance. This resulted in lines and wait times just go get on to the elevator. The room was ok, but the a/c was leaking. Parking is $27 per car per day, and you may not even get to park on premises. All in all, not worth the price, even for the location. We will stay elsewhere next time we come to Charleston.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay at the Courtyard Charleston Historic District. It's in a great location in Downtown, near everything. If you need something to eat, there are great places to eat not so far away such as Cuban Gypsy Kitchen and Justine's Kitchen. Many other places are walkable from this location. If you like animals, you can walk over to the Cat Pounce Cafe to play with the cats. If you need toiletries or any type of groceries, they have a 24 hour Walgreens a block away. It's also close to the Battery, if you want to check it out. It's an easy walk, depending how fit you are. The rooms are clean and doesn't stink. They provide free WiFi (or pay to upgrade to a faster speed). The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It's a nice, standard hotel. I enjoyed my stay.

Yelp
The hotel and room are much like any other Courtyard, which is what one would expect. The location is great - right by the rest of Charleston's historic district. The staff makes this hotel stand out! Mara was a big help at check-in, working with me to get our van and the bikes situated just right. Jay captured an awesome photo of my wife and me after her birthday dinner. And Andrea helped us have an awesome awesome awesome trip, with her own advise and with tools from Kevin McQuade. The week before arriving, Andrea informed us about SandLapper Tours' July 4th fireworks cruise... It was awesome! Andrea gave us walking maps the first morning, and when we had a bit more time to listen, showed us the list of Charleston's Best Photo Ops and an album of actual photo... The guide shares how to capture the images yourself. She also helped us get great apple turnovers on National Apple Turnover Day a July 5! And... For our way out of town, en route to Hilton Head Andrea shared a couple places to visit on our drive and we picked two: Angel Tree Old Sheldon Church ruins Both were awesome! Thank you Andrea and Kevin - your elk gave us a visit more awesome than we had planned, by far!

Yelp
The service was very good. Anna at the front desk was extremely helpful and gave a lot of information about where to go in Charleston and nearby. Also, they had a good quality (Paul Mitchell) shampoo and conditioner. The hotel is within walking distance of popular guided tour groups, downtown Marketplace and convenient stores.

Yelp
This hotel was quite foul. Was here for a class and it was beyond disappointing. The rooms were filthy, outdated, and far from sound proof/resistant. The cleaning people were in the room next to me at 6am and stayed until 6pm... on one room??? The hallway smelled like as$ so maybe there was a sewage issue..... idk it was weird and gross. The lobby bathroom was so disgusting LOL.... 4/5 toilets were clogged and the working toilet had literal $hit on the seat with used toilet paper dangling from the handle to flush. It was very disappointing... not to mention $1300 for 3 nights.

Yelp
After spending 2 nights out in the Charleston suburbs - closer to the Plantations - we decided to spend 1 night in Charleston's historic district at the Courtyard by Marriott. This hotel is ideally located and is an easy walk to the Main Visitor's Center and to many of the sites within the historic district. The hotel was extremely clean and comfortable and was very quiet. Parking is an extra $15 per night in a garage/parking deck adjacent to the hotel with full in and out privileges. The rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. In addition to charging for parking, hotels in the historic district also do not provide the free breakfasts that are common in so many other hotels. However, there is an on-site coffee shop (café) that had a nice variety of reasonably priced breakfast items. Due to its proximity to the historic area and the comfort of our room, I'd return here for another visit and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be near the historic district.

Yelp
Managed by some greedy bloaks...no maid service, won't provide towels, water has to be purchased. No recognition of being a loyal Marriot customer. Although the location is great, expect nothing and you won't be disappointed. Must be managed by foreigners looking at their numbers...STAY AWAY

Yelp
This was a great stay! Down in Charleston for a girls weekend. The location is great. Within walking distance to the market as well as King Street. Great restaurants nearby. If you are hunting an exceptional hole in the wall...try Big Guns, just a couple minutes walk. The staff was extremely helpful, but the biggest shout out has to go to the bar staff...Tamara, Dwight and Jermaine. So friendly and helpful hints about the city and some excellent drinks. They truly helped us have a memorable MARRIOTT experience! Can't wait until next time!!!

Yelp
Okay experience overall. Location wise is excellent and walking distance to all the great places in downtown. Not particularly impressed with the room cleanliness especially during Covid time and they initially charged me for parking even though I didn't have a car (it was resolved but was annoyed nonetheless)

Yelp
We spoke to Kevin the concierge at the courtyard Marriott. It makes it worth it to stay here just so that you can get his secret maps and tips!! He is a fountain of useful information. One recommendation he gave us as we didn't have a lot of time was to rent bicycles. We did and it was a wonderful feast for our eyes. We really had a great time. Thanks again Kevin you are the best!! The location if the hotel is quite ideal near shops and restaurants Lots of wonderful sights and good food to eat.

Yelp
This Courtyard is nicer than the Embassy in the area. It's more modern, the facilities are nicer and newer and it seems more upscale. Those are the good things. No ghosts either! Food and drink are not as good and is definitely more limited. I didn't use the 24 hour snack bar, but that's a sign that they realize that there isn't as much to offer. Parking can be pretty challenging, as well. I thought the staff was pretty friendly, but wasn't able to use the concierge when I needed assistance.

Yelp
I stayed here while visiting for the Charleston marathon. The location is nice with a lot being in walking distance. The hotel was being renovated. The parts that have been renovated are nice and you can see the end project will be first class. The room I stayed in was nice and clean and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
Customer service was incredible from check in to check out. Chelsea and Taj was were incredibly attentive and really made our stay fantastic. Even the door man/ bell man don't remember his name but he was exceptional as well. Will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Hotel looks nice from outside. Excellent location! Can walk to everything downtown. Sightseeing. Historic district. Tons of restaurants nearby! However some negatives... room was loud. Could hear everyone in the hallway. Air conditioner/ wall heater unit was loud and could hear all the rain dripping on it all night. They must be renovating because only one elevator was in service. Not that big of a deal, but a bit cumbersome. King bed was not that comfortable. Maybe too hard? Room was decorated nicely. Updated modern. Super clean. If you are a light sleeper it's loud and bed was not comfy.
