The front desk person named Amanda I believe began by telling us we'd showed up a day early for our one night stay. She persisted that the error in booking was ours, even though I explained we'd booked over the phone speaking directly with the hotel. She said she was "shocked" we were there the wrong day. So much for 'the customer's always right'. She proceeding to act surprised that we "only wanted a king size bed" with a group of 4... (2 married adults and 2 daughters). I explained that when booking the room originally I'd requested a pull out couch as well.... (Which I believe is a fairly standard option?)
The room:
Hairs in the bathtub, and pink stains on the shower curtain as well as one of the towels. No big deal, but worth mentioning. The king sized bed was firm and comfortable, but not the fitted sheet was not put on properly (inside out and not tucked all the way around the mattress) which led to it coming off in the middle of the night. Annoying.
The pull out couch. We pulled it out, and found a single pillow, a fitted sheet, and a blanket which needed washed in the cabinet. A flat sheet, clean blanket, and perhaps an additional pillow would have been nice since the bed was being slept on by 2 people. We requested additional pillows from the front desk, and was told they "would try and work on it." Pillows arrived an hour later. We requested a 4th towel (since again, there was 4 of us), which never arrived.
The rooms decor was very nice- Lovely that the pictures were of local surrounding. There was however some visible dust, the ice bucket was half full of warm water, and the 2 glasses left on the mini fridge were unclean. I washed lip-prints off one of them before use. Gross.
Although quiet time was supposed to begin at 10pm, people were out yelling drunk in the hallways at midnight. Lovely. Additionally, the walls were thin so we could at times hear neighbors, and the shower water the following morning was lukewarm.
Oh, We had to laugh at the 2 small bottles of water left in the room with a note stating we'd be billed $8 if we'd consumed the water. And the fact that if you wanted high speed internet, you would need to... yes... pay extra! Too funny. Was it $5.95 a day or some other arbitrary amount?
What else? Oh! The TV was not HD, and was a pretty crappy picture. No big deal though, really. Oh, and you can't see the TV from the bed, so don't think you'll be watching TV in bed.
What was ridiculous to find though was the lack of USB ports on electrical outlets. Really? This is 2018, and you're a "new" hotel... People have devices! So, if your planning a stay, make sure you bring plenty of plugin USB port to stick in the sockets.
One last annoyance. We were charged $25 additional for our dog staying. Fine. Whatever. I get it... Some dogs damage things, urinate on carpets, etc. But, here's the thing: Where exactly does that $25 go? Because our room smelled distinctively of dog.. right down to the blanket my daughter slept with on the pull out couch. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of deep cleaning going on! Perhaps clean linens and maybe a little baking soda in the carpet prior to a vacuum would justify the extra charge. Just a thought.
Oy! Sorry... One more thing. The food is expensive and ho hum. There is no complementary breakfast. Aaaaand the fridge is college dorm sized.
Normally, we would have chosen a more budget friendly option for a one night stay somewhere. However, we decided to treat ourselves and spring for the nice new hotel downtown. That, was a mistake. I believe next time we'll settle for The Best Western, or some other place. Maybe one that has a pool more than 3 feet deep at the deepest. Sadly, we ended up paying more for a disappointing stay.
