I bought quite a few Christmas gifts through Coutelier NOLA and I accidentally made a mistake on my order. I called and they were so kind in helping me work out my issue. The customer service was excellent and the products arrived quickly. Everything was very high quality and unique. Highly recommend this business!

Bought Japanese knives during their 30% off black Friday sale. They ran out of one of the knives. They contacted me promptly and refunded me quickly. Stopped by two weeks later, so many great knives, including pocket knives. Picked up a Mcusta and a Laguiole.

While eating at Sukeban (HIGHLY recommend) I mentioned I needed new knives and turns out the Chef/owner is the knife queen of the US. This place has EVERYTHING!!! Super knowledgeable staff because they literally go to Japan to learn about how the knives are made. I wanted everything in here. They were shipping knives to the best restaurants all over the country!

My girlfriend bought me a knife for Christmas. She went in with the intention of getting a pairing knife, but the sale person up sold her on a much more expensive knife of a different variety. It is a great knife, but not what I was looking for. We returned to days later and asked if there were any Shun knives and they said no. He then said we would only be allowed a store credit if we returned the knife or if we were to get a cheaper knife in exchange, the remaining balance would be a store credit. This establishment took advantage of someone and refused to offer credit back during the holidays. Do not shop here.

Gavin was so knowledgeable! My husband is dedicated to quality chef's knives. I do not know very much about them and I went to buy him a knife as a present while in New Orleans. Gavin understood what I was looking for and helped me pick out a beautiful knife. My husband was so pleased and surprised and basically repeated to me everything Gavin had told me about the knife.

My mukimono got chipped in two places. I thought I'd have to lose quite a bit off the blade's height. Instead Brandt suggested cutting the length, which worked perfectly. It now looks as good as new including a brilliant shine to the edge. Very pleased with the service and communication during the process.

Part 2 - After many emails and phones calls during which the manager educated me, suggested options and answered all of my questions, I purchased a few more knives from Coutelier Nola as well as a gorgeous, locally made magnetic knife board. The knives are beyond belief but I have to say the outstanding customer service is what made the difference. Everyone at the store I've dealt with has been incredibly helpful.

Over satisfied; I am. The only thing better than impeccable craftsmanship is a craftsman who is passionate about his craft. The level of quality shows, and the price is on point. I believe the gentleman went over exceedingly and above my expectations. I’m not sure if I’m worthy to unsheathe these knives in my kitchen lolz. However; I will use them as much as possible just so I can go back because I am now a patron. Sharp! Thank you.

Great shop with knowledgable owners (former chefs). They have an incredible selection of high-end knives. I just went for sharpening for my Japanese knives becuase I want a service that knows how to sharpened them correctly. Drop off service only took a a couple of days and I got a message from the shop when my knives were ready. Very reasonable price for sharpening.

I will admit this freely - I love knives! Maybe it's a holdover from being a Boy Scout and aikidoka, that morphing into cooking. So I really enjoy shops that have broad selections of blades. I went shopping for a blade there. The folks there were super knowledgeable and helpful. They gave plenty of options around blade construction, maintenance and care. The knife I got is my current favorite, and I want to shop for my next one soon.

The lady helping me was very attentive to me and the other people. I am new to knives and she helped me choose a nice gyuto.

Visited their website after searching for knife sharpening services. By the websites request, I reached out attempting to have my item sharpened. The response was less than timely; they did not care to spell my name correctly (which it was spelled correctly on my contact application) and then told me that they did not sell the item that I was trying to sharpen? I did not want to buy the item, and I was clear about that in the contact form. But, they were to lazy to spell my name correctly as well as actually check the contact application. Shame. Was promised an exchange if hubby didn't like his Xmas present. Was denied exchange due to an issue with a cardboard box that the actual knife box came in. A cardboard box. A CARDBOARD BOX. a box that I was never even aware needed to be returned. I've never had a store request a cardboard box used for shipping to be returned. Unreal. I was warned that she had unethical business practices, I should have listened. Never do business here.

Always have what I'm looking for. Great knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend their services as well. If you have respect for your knives you're gonna want them treated the right way. Besides myself courtlier is the only place I trust to do it right and keep my knives in great shape. You get what you pay for, excellent every time, worth every dime.

Nestled on boutique and restaurant-laden Oak Street, coutelier offers a wide selection of knives and knowledgeable staff will help you find what you need. After seeing their page on instagram we wandered into the shop and were blown away by the wall-lined displays of beautiful knives. The staff helped us pick out an assortment of 8" and 9" knives in our price range and we were able to hold and inspect each knife all while patiently answering our questions about steel, edges, and durability. One of the owners joined us half way through and showed us some of their more unique pieces, including a knife that was made of rainbow Damascus. Really cool spot, we'll definitely be back!

My husband was so impressed by this place that I think we'll be getting our knives sharpened more often than normal. He said that they knew the store where we got our Japanese knife and were able to tell us exactly how and how not to use it. All of this is probably common knowledge for people into this stuff but it was new to us and we were impressed. On top of all of that, it was only $10. We'll definitely be back here again!

Absolutely, positively the best knife shop I've ever been in. I hesitate to give such a perfect review out of fear that everyone will rush to get there, but there is no other way to describe this place. Everywhere you turn you see another use for the knife that your eyes focus on. The problem is making sure that you go with only a few knives for purpose in mind or you will spend more than you intended (that's not the worst thing in the world if its knives). Make an appointment and get the knife of your dreams, just be sure not to dream about the shop because then you'll have get back there again and again.

I inherited a couple of Japanese kitchen knives that were not very well taken care of. One had light surface rust that I was able to clean. The other needed some serious work. I regret not getting a before picture because Coutelier put a fine edge on the knife that just needed sharpening and absolutely resurrected the other knife. We're so lucky to have a local shop that takes pride in their work like they do. I would recommend Coutelier to anybody who is looking to buy a new knife or who is looking to put the life back into one of their used knives.

We get our knives sharpened here and they brought back a knife someone put in the dishwasher that we were convinced was ruined back to use. Also great spot to buy gifts for someone who loves to cook.

Wonderful selection of high-end professional knives run by chefs who travel to Japan and France to purchase directly from the forges.

I cannot stop shouting from the rooftops how amazing this store is. I had made a plan to get my fiancé some nice knives for a gift, but admittedly know absolutely nothing about knives. I headed up to the store sometime around thanksgiving and immediately kicked myself for not making an appointment in line with their (super safe and thoughtful) COVID policy. Fortunately they weren't busy and welcomed me in. From there I pretty much had a personal shopping experience - Jackie was so awesome and so patient. She must have taken 20 knives off the wall for me and spent an hour or more talking me through all the knives - uses, care, history, etc. and made it clear that they would find something we would love at any price point. My fiancé LOVED his knives and we are so excited to use them. He already can't wait to visit and I know we'll be lifelong patrons of this awesome shop. Cheers y'all!

Today I brought a bunch of knives in to be sharpened and cleaned. What a professional and friendly place. Even though I did not make an appointment (didn't think of it soon enough) they took in about 9 knives and had them sharpened, rust removed and cleaned before 5pm the same day. They also sell a very nice selection of knives and other items and advertise job opportunities for local restaurants. Oak St offers many cool shops, restaurants and services and this is a fine example.

Really cool shop. Brandt was very generous with his time and indulged every question I had. The selection is very well curated and covers a wide range of price points. Lots of hard-to-find knives, doubly so for a brick-and-mortar store. Pocket knives from Opinels and Kanekoma higo no kamis, to Ohta (which I was particularly happy about, since they're even relatively rare online), to some crazy Mcustas. Kitchen knives from affordable and respectable Tojiros all the way up to Carter. Gorgeous selection of Takedas, including a cleaver that I may need to start saving up for. The best part was that I didn't feel pressured to buy, or that I was wasting his time. No upsell and plenty of friendly advice. Way better experience than buying online sight-unseen, or, God forbid, at like Sur la Table or something.

Rarely have I ever met a more honest and lovely bunch of people that also happen to be some of the sharpest minds in the culinary field. I'm glad to say I'm one of the lucky few that have shopped physically from both the New Orleans shop and the culinary Nirvana that is the Nashville location and that I am always treated like family when I walk in the door no matter how long it's been since I've been there. The covid protocols are more than fair, they are thoughtful, tastefully executed, and by far some of the safest I've seen throughout 2020. Keep it real y'all!

I dropped off 4 knives for sharpening. I usually sharpen my own knives but I had a lot of other things going on and decided I'd give them a shot to save the time. I had one particular knife, an older chefs knife, that I hadn't been able to get really sharp lately. They did a great job on all of my knives including the stubborn one. I didn't have a chance to look around the store but what I saw was impressive. If I were looking for a new high end knife I'd shop there. I also recommend them for sharpening services.

Had every intent to buy several knives and spend a lot of money in the store. Great selection. The woman at the counter was VERY RUDE. I was simply trying to flip some tags to see the prices and she snIpped at me not to touch. Seriously? Then she never asked me if I needed any help while serving several of the customers that came in after me.

I cannot fully express how much I love this shop. I am not a pro, just an amateur cook that loves good knives and tools, and I get treated like an old friend every time I walk in. The workers and owner are always so helpful and knowledgeable. As long as they carry the product I am looking for, I will never buy another knife or cooking tool anywhere else again.

Was pleasantly surprised by the staff's expertise and patience. As a home cook, I didn't know exactly what type of knife I wanted. I just knew I was ready to upgrade from my 'IKEA' knives to something I could have for years. The clerk took the time to question me and make recommendations. I ended up buying two knives from different makers. I had never considered different makers, but as she explained, buy the knife for the task. It wasn't until I returned home to use them did I really appreciate their functionality. Thanks again for taking your time with me. I highly recommend working with them.

Expectations beat!!! Grateful in 2020 for a small business with owners and staff that pay high attention to detail and quality. The NOLA Courtlier team have formal culinary and restaurant training and on top of that they have the international travel (stodging) experience and first hand knowledge of technique and ingredients used for dishes indigenous to areas around the world! They help advise our purchases and have extra special items that cannot be found elsewhere. This shop is the gold standard for knives, technique, specialty items, culture, food, and best practices! The service is exceptional! Looking forward to my next visit and purchase!!!

Great service and selection. I have bought multiple knives from them and they are always helpful and caring. I had a problem with a Nakiri I bought from them and they fixed it for me immediately. This is not the place for you if you are looking for a ceramic knife, or cheap products, but if you are wanting chef quality cutlery or even something for the bar, kitchen or something to carry it with, this is your place! I love going there and just being there. Maybe they will hire me as the store dog! I would only be 7 in dogs years!

Very poor service. I ordered two items from them that was covered under the 50$ insurance. I never received the items despite being "delivered". They refused to resend the items or refund the money. They then stopped replying to emails and ignored communication. Tried to support small business' during these times but now I am left without my items or my money. Do not recommend purchasing items and having them shipped. Bad business practices.

We dropped off 4 knives for sharpening. I was able to pick up the following Monday, but did not look at the wrapped knives before I left with them. Upon getting home and unwrapping them, I realized that Coutelier had given me someone else's knives. Since the knives that were dropped off have been in the family for several generations, this discovery was quite unnerving. I messaged the company on Instagram and Facebook and didn't hear anything back. When I went back to the store the next morning, I said "I picked up knives yesterday, but it seems that you guys gave us the wrong knives. I'm hoping ours are here and that they haven't gone home with someone else." The millennial at the counter curtly replied "I was off yesterday." I said "Ok, well can you look? Here's the ticket." She came back with a sack and announced that these were the correct knives. I asked her to open the sack and unwrap the knives and she grumbled something about "knowing that these were my knives so there was no need to unwrap but fine." No apology for the mix up, crappy service, and a questionable filing / inventory system means that we will not be going back.

This place is a total gem! Amazing selection of knives but more importantly they have deep knowledge of their products and the service they provide is fantastic. I've ordered several times online - it's always flawless and service over the phone has been equally excellent. Had a nice chat with one of the owners who took the time to really understand what I was looking for, discussed several options and provided personal insights and backstories about the knifemakers. I left the conversation feeling super informed and confident about my knife purchase and really appreciated that someone would take the time to chop it up with a complete stranger even though I'm sure he had a ton of other stuff to handle that day. They also carry a bunch of great products besides knives - well curated cookbook and kitchen tools selection and quality pantry items that are impossible to find anywhere else. Definitely earned my business, if I lived any closer I'd be there every other day!

Read about this place in Garden and Gun. What a letdown. Got there at 10:30 on way back to Tennessee and doors locked-despite the fact that they advertise opening at 10:00. Called. No answer. Not a good way to treat customers.
