Coven is located on butler st in lawrenceville. It’s small in the inside but comfortable. They don’t have a huge selection on tap however most of their beer is delicious, I like their hazy ipas. They have some of my favorite food trucks on a regular basis. Check them out

The Phantom Experience IPA is delicious and could hold its own in Vermont. Vibe is surprisingly posh for the ‘Burgh. Open early on Black Friday.

Solid line of beers at this upstart brewery! The cozy ambience is nice too. Removed one star as they refused to pour even the smallest amount of beer from their draft line to taste in advance. I really am rubbed the wrong way when breweries do this (almost never). That said, the beer we had was delicious (especially their Saison as seen in this pic), and we will be back to Coven.

Coven Brewing is a fantastic spot with an intimate vibe that beer lovers won't want to miss. While it's primarily a small indoor establishment, there are a few big wooden tables outside for those who want to enjoy their drinks in the fresh air. The brewery's location is ideal--it's within walking distance of a historic old cemetery, which adds a unique touch to the experience, and if you're willing to put in a little bit more of a walk, there is a lively strip with tons of great food options. As for the drinks, everything we tried was impressively flavorful, with a sweeter profile that stood out in the best way. We ordered a few "Past Predictions", and they were exceptional--bright, tangy, and just the right amount of sweet. Coven Brewing nails it when it comes to creating a memorable beer-drinking experience. Highly recommend!

3 - Good choice if you're in the area. Skip to the end to see my rating scale. Coven Brewing is a good place for a beer or two. It's small and missing a few of the things that really sell me on a brewery like outdoor seating and convenient good food. Their beer menu was IPA heavy when I was there, which is fine for me, but obviously not everyone is an IPA fan. The couple of beers I had were good though, and no regrets about stopping. There just happen to be a few other really good breweries in the area, so to be consistent with my rating scale, if I were going to drive half an hour to that area of Pittsburgh, I'd most likely choose one of the others. But if you're in Lawrenceville and find yourself around Allegheny Cemetery, then yes, please stop in here and have a couple of beers. You won't be disappointed if they have a style you like. My rating scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

I've always loved this spot for excellent microbrews. Their hazy game is on point. Recently they added some TVs for classic video game nights and game days. The new seating is super comfortable and great for larger groups. In the summer they have outdoor seating at picnic tables and frequently have food trucks. The beertenders are friendly and welcoming.

Meh, just not my bag. We stopped here at the end of summer to meet some people. They were walking from where their air B&B was and did not want picked up, so we went on in and tried some beers. This used to be Round-about Brewing and although I always liked their beers their space was confining and dark. Fortunately, the owners at Coven brightened the place up. Unfortunately, the beers missed all marks. Beer VS atmosphere. Beer wins every time. I tried two hazy beers on tap and one double IPA Slanguage. The bartenders were attentive and provided the samples. The Perpetual push and the Orange Blossom were not good. However, other options were pale ales and sours. I do not like sours, so I ordered the Slanguage, which seemed ok in a small sample but fell apart as a pint. With so many great breweries in Pittsburgh that brew very cohesive hazy beers, this stop is not one of them. I struggled through it and had to call it quits. I intercepted the people we were meeting, and we relocated to another brewery that has a proven track record of solid brews. I cannot see coming back but wish them success. They seem to have many people that enjoy their offerings. Unfortunately, I cannot agree based on my experience.

stumbled onto Coven after discovering our original recommended brewery destination nearby lacked IPA variety- & so glad we ended up here- while they had a smaller tap list, they still had a decent variety friendly & welcoming service the bartender spent some time allowing samples & chatting about their beer style, production, and preferences; it was a great learning experience about not only Coven but also beer in the Pittsburg area all their IPAs had such unique robust flavor, it was hard to just pick one (I wish we were able to take beer to-go- delicious taste & reasonable prices-) the brewery was comfy cozy, I can see where the limited seating could be a bummer, but we lucked out to have an intimate experience, enjoying the swanky vibe of the decor, music, big open window with nice park view, & tall stemmed glasses- they did a great job with the space they had, creating a nice hangout we had Slanguage, Super Crush, Prairie Schooner; I rated all 4/5stars for nice creamy haze, citra hops, with their own dank profiles

Now that it's been open a while and I have been back more than just a few times I figured it's due for an updated review. Coven has become a frequent occurrence for us on Wednesday evenings. It isn't overly crowded (good because I still don't love the seating options), Blue Sparrow is there, and often there is a new beer release to enjoy. Service is always fast and friendly. They have a tap list on the smaller side but still manage to have some variety. They do offer 5 ounce pours now, which is a nice option to have. Coven has been putting out some fantastic beers. They did a Baha Blahst sour which sounds (and looks) a bit crazy but was so delicious. We enjoyed it on draft and came back for more (and cans which hadn't released yet). Their strawberry pretzel salad sour is fantastic. There is so much strawberry flavor bursting out of this beer that even just the smell is amazing. You actually can taste the little salt kick which is nice because too often you can't. This is a beer I will always come back for. They also have done a series of Priority Mail stouts. Unfortunately we missed the two other variants they did in Black Friday. However, we have enjoyed the original coconut one several times now on draft and brought bottles home and even shared with friends. We had to try it seeing as my fiancé is a mail carrier, plus we love big, flavorful stouts. Please continue to make more of this series. Just a warning... the bathroom is fairly dark. Also the air freshener or incense or whatever they are using is pretty strong. I try to avoid needing to use it when I'm there as strong fragrances can give me issues and I know there are other people who also have a problem with this. I think Coven has been a great addition to the Pittsburgh brewery scene. I look forward to many future visits and getting to try more delicious beers.

Good attentive service. Let us sample before choosing our glass. No food available but outside food allowed as we noticed a regular bring a pizza box in with them. Ambiance is on the quiet side so relaxing.

I stopped by Coven Brewing a couple of Thursdays ago with some former coworkers. I hadn't been to this space since its last brewery and the inside looked much like I remembered. Somewhat small with a room/Tv and then a bar area with a single table. They also had some outdoor seating but it was too cold to take advantage of that. Between a running club, our small group of 3 and another group, it was standing room only. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I tried to go with a flight here. However they don't have a traditional flight and instead you can order 5 oz beers. As such I decided to go with 3 - 5 oz beers and chose the conceptual contrast, OHKO Vic secret and Ocular Experience. My first beer here, the conceptual contrast west coast IPA was decent enough. It started off smooth before a lot of hops came through on the finish. I didn't get any citrus or pineyness that I would have expected but it was still a decent beer. Up second for me was the ocular contrast which was a triple IPA. It started off with some fruitiness before finishing as a sugar bomb. Honestly it was probably the sweetest beer I have had in a long time and was not something that I enjoyed. Last but certainly not least was the OHKO which was a Hazy Pale Ale. This beer was weird to me as it just tasted like a super watered down Pale Ale. There was a little hops and not much flavor. I was also able to taste one of my friends oat pale ale and the others stout and neither was that good. As a matter of a fact, they both left over half of the full pours by the time we left. The bottom line for me is that I would not head back here again in the future. While I wanted to like it, I wouldn't consider any of the beers that I had here to be good and only one of the five would I even give another chance to.

Probably one of my least favorite breweries in the Pittsburgh area. The bartender wasn't very friendly or outgoing at all and the seating is horrible. It is super small with only a few tables, a couple of bar stools and a tiny booth/table where the bar is. The beer is mediocre at best and the only true pluses about this place is the fact that it's in Lawrenceville and the food truck outside has one of the best tacos in Pittsburgh, Tasty Taquitos. Which seems to be why most of the people were there on the night we visited.

Wonderful beer, lots of outdoor seating. Their menu could be improved by adding some dark beers. I like sitting at the window seats. When combined with the Blue Sparrow food truck, it's an unforgettable evening.

This is the kind of bar where people feel comfortable bringing their kids in strollers. If you're into that kind of crowd, as well as their average beer, then this is the place for you. Speaking of the beer, I give the sour a 3/5, but, like most Pittsburgh breweries, it's overly fruity. I haven't tried the Pilsner yet, but do intend to next time I stop by (yes, I will come back, but only reluctantly to give another beer a try). Honestly, I don't like the atmospheres of all these new breweries and such (Wayfair furniture, customers who don't seem to actually know anything about beer but just want to try a new place, bring their school-aged children, etc.), so I have a slight bias.

As much as I loved Roundabout, I can say Coven blows away what they were. Pours are excellent and the new layout makes the space so much bigger. The decor is amazing: I'm in love with the concrete bar top.

I came here to catch up with some old friends on a Thursday evening. The brewery was small but cozy and had a good deal of customers already who were just hanging out after what looked like a group activity. The noise level was probably a bit louder than normal making it a bit difficult to talk. Service was quick and prompt. The reason this is a 2 star for me is just the beers were not good and I've rarely, if ever, said that. I had a west coast ipa which was very light bodied, not hoppy, and not like any other beers I've had before. The next beer was a heavy stout and thankfully only got a half pour as I don't think I could have drank the entire thing. Overall a bad experience from beer flavor. Could just be myself or some unlucky pours. Would rather go elsewhere for craft beer.

The location is cute, small and intimate. They don't let you taste/try beer because "we want you to have time to get to know our beer". Which is pretentious. The beers were average. I don't like drinking beer from a stemmed glass (personal preference).

This was my first time visiting this brewery since Roundabout had closed down. I stopped here and as soon as I approached the bar they asked what I wanted. I asked about flights, and he said he could provide me samples. As I looked around I noticed a New England IPA and decided to go with that. I sat down and took that first drink. WOW! so damn good. It's maybe the best Hazy IPA I've tasted in a very long time. This was good. The place looks remodeled from where it was Roundabout. It does have a small dining area that allows seating. Table against the window with stools. I'd say more places to sit at that previously. They also have picnic tables outside that allows more people to sit and relax and enjoy a beer. I want to come back and get a Hazy IPA again and fill up a growler if I can. They did have it canned but sold out, so I can see why. This is a nice place and I recommend checking them out.

This brewery is awesome! Tried a few different beers and they were delicious. The flavor profiles and attention to detail they put in their beers shows, and is definitely worth trying. The aesthetic and vibe are fantastic too. Also, for the price, you get a giant wine glass of beer which is more than fair. Coven is in a truly perfect location too, right between central and upper Lawrenceville and they bring the BEST food trucks during the week. My favorite is Blue Sparrow on Wednesday's. My only suggestions are to provide descriptions for each beer easily accessible for each person to read. Either put it on the counter when you're ordering or provide it on the wall with the name of each beer. Every time I go to Coven I have to ask what the flavor profile of each beer is and it's a bit tedious. Don't get me wrong, the employees are super nice and don't mind explaining, but I'd rather be able to read over each individual beers description than have to ask. Additionally, the chairs and tables inside don't quite fit. When sitting at the low tables, your chair is too low and despite not being a tall person, my legs and body are always hitting the table. It just feels crowded and clunky. I do love all of the pink and green - it's a different and beautiful aesthetic than what you normally see in a brewery, but could be adapted to be more comfortable and cozy.

We stopped on our brewery crawl and grabbed a few beers (or boilermakers for some). Their outdoor space is dog friendly, but they could definitely expand their seating. There were three picnic tables with umbrellas (thankfully because it was HOT) but a few people didn't stay because there wasn't more outdoor space to sit. I had the No Skits grapefruit brew and loved it!

I would describe Coven as an elevated brewery experience. It's got a chic and sophisticated vibe inside from the styling of the taproom to the elegant stemmed glasses the beer is served in. I most recently tried the No Skits Grisette, which is a delightfully light and smooth beer for the summer. The notes of hibiscus are chefs kiss. Though the taproom is fairly small, they've done a great job of utilizing the space. There are small loungey corners for small groups of friends, tables for twos, and a long window of bar seating that's great for people and dog watching. Outside you'll find larger tables good for a group hangout. Looking forward to repeat visits at this lovely space.

Probably kinda hard, weird, or something to take over a space from a really loved neighborhood friend but Coven checks the boxes. Beers are exceptional. With that said, I speak to a specific taste. Their IPA and pale ale game is what I've had a few times now. Beautifully soft, nuanced and drinkable. They opened up the space inside some from what it was prior. It's still just okay. Outdoor sidewalk picnic tables are plentiful. It's a neighborhood place making some world class suds. Enjoy.

Beware a brewery that refuses to allow tasters. Had a terrible pint of barleywine and got half a pint of IPA when I complained that it was awful. Not coming back. Server was as amenable as allowed by management, otherwise I'd have given a lower rating. F me for not having psychic abilities about how their beer tastes. It's almost like most breweries have figured out how to avoid that. Hmmmmmm. Even sitting here listening as I'm stewing about drinking a mediocre IPA instead of the barleywine I came for, I'm shocked at what the server keeps saying they "can't" or "don't" do. Weird business model. There's no way this is sustainable. It's like they're asking themselves "what would customers like? Let's avoid that." Reeks of a wealthy person's vanity project. I'd give anything to bring Roundabout back to this location.

It's a cool name for a brewery located by a cemetery! The seating area is very small. I mainly came here to try this beer I saw online but sadly it wasn't available! I don't remember what I tried instead but it was good

Good brews, especially given their newness. Nothing super creative but everything is a decent representative of its style. the food trucks they invite have been good too. Only disappointment is not enough outdoor seating. We ended up sitting on the sidewalk, and we were not the only ones doing so on a Saturday afternoon. Others brought their own folding chairs or just stood. It didn't help that some people refused to share their outdoors table even though there was room. Will avoid going on weekends from now on.
