Cowboy Dinner Tree – Silver Lake, Oregon - Gastro Obscura

"In generations past, Central Oregon cattle ranchers drove their herds from seasonal pastures around Paisley, Summer Lake, and Silver Lake to the greenery at Sycan Marsh. Halfway along the trail stood a large juniper tree where a waiting chuck wagon served beans and biscuits to the hungry cowboys, known as buckaroos in Oregon. Today, a rustic restaurant has replaced the chuck wagon by the juniper tree, serving huge dinners that would make the herders drool. (It’s hard to verify that a chuckwagon set up shop at that exact spot, but it was certainly the site of ranching and cattle drives.) While the fare is an upgrade from a chuckwagon’s beans and biscuits, the low-ceilinged, wood-planked restaurant resembles a tack room more than a dining room. And the menu, well, there’s no menu. Patrons have a choice of coffee, water, pink lemonade, or ice tea to drink; honey mustard or ranch dressing for the salad; and soup or beans as a side. Entree choices are a 26-30 ounce sirloin steak or an entire roast chicken. The meal also comes with yeast rolls and a baked potato big enough to choke a horse. For dessert, there’s a slice of cake topped with berries. Mercifully, the staff provides plastic bags for leftovers. It’s a long and beautiful ride to the restaurant from almost anywhere, which gives you plenty of time to appreciate the beauty of the high desert and the life of ranchers, past and present. Know Before You Go You need reservations (no walk-ins) and to specify your entree in advance; cash only (no credit or debit cards); no splitting a dinner; no soda or alcohol served (though you can bring your own). There are a few rustic cabins on the property available for rent, and the restaurant has a basic airstrip if you'd like to fly in. Consider bringing a cooler for your leftovers. It's a long drive home!" - Scott Mansfield

What an experience! Sure this place is a bit off the beaten path so to speak, sure you have to make reservations, sure it's cash only, sure it's wildly rustic... It's also super charming, fun to get to, and beautiful. The grounds are fun to walk around, play some games and take a walk through the gift shop. This place offers free first come RV, van, camping across the street, there's a nice buck to use if needed, and there are multiple rustic cabins for a great price if you'd like to stay the night in style. Now for the important part, the food!!! What can I say, it's the best and biggest steak I've ever had! Perfectly cooked medium rare, so tasty, they offer chicken too, but we went came for the 30oz steak! You get a quart jar of pink lemonade (limited other options like unsweetened tea available), salad, fresh bread with freshly made butter, cowboy soup, baked potato with bacon, chives, sour cream, and cheese, a thick massive steak, and dessert. Cash only and currently $50+tip. Seriously I've been trying to get out here for 10 years, and it was so worth it. We already want to go back. Special props to the family/server/chef/staff. Everyone was polite and all smiles. Highly recommend. ❤️

Google
Too full to type, so delicious. We will be back. Plan your trip, RSVP - no walk ins, Cash 💵- no cards are excepted, and planning are required, especially if you’re not from the area. This place has such history, what was once a chuck wagon dinner stop under a juniper tree for the cowboys during cattle run is now The Cowboys Dinner Tree. Check out the history and fill up at this memorable spot.

Google
Cowboy dinner tree was awesome. Definitely lived up to the hype. Giant portions. Each course of the meal was handmade and very tasty. Sallad rolls, beans, chicken or beef, dessert. Water, tea, lemonade it coffee to drink. Would definitely go back. Took my dad for his birthday, he loved it. Worth the drive, especially if you like southern oregon. Service was friendly, great

Google
The waitstaff were really attentive and lovely. The steaks were clearly local and of pretty high quality. We came on a night when they had corn chowder, which was really good! I strongly recommend a visit out to CDT if you’re in the area! You won’t regret it!

Google
Rustic, fun just as all other reviews. Friendly staff. I love the mustard dressing, definitely purchased some to take home. The only reason I have one less star was the beans We're undercooked, 30-45 more min they would have been perfect. Saw a barn cat in the parking lot super cute, 🤣. Bathroom was clean. Would recommend and would revisit.

I have been intending on coming here for over 10 years. I finally did it, got the reservation a month in advance, grabbed my wife and made the hour drive from sunriver. This place is out in the middle of nowhere, very rustic look and feel. They opened at 4pm on the dot and immediately got right to serving you. Starts with your drinks(lemonade for us) and a nice green salad served with ranch or honey mustard. I could have just drank the ranch from the bottle. Next they bring "soup" which is a just a pot of beans, but they have great flavor. Then they bring out the main course. We got one chicken and one beef. The beef is 2 lbs of meat that is very well flavored. The chicken is a whole chicken that is smoked or baked and has a great flavor profile, like a Costco rotisserie... they are served with a baked potato. Finally you get a desert option, we went with marionberry on cake with cream. Everything was excellent, and there was twice as much food as needed. We were warned by friends ahead to bring a small ice chest and Tupperware for left overs and that was helpful. Service was excellent and prompt. We will likely go back more than once. The price is the price, $50 CASH per person.

Google
Second time visiting the Cowboy Dinner Tree and it didn't disappoint. Everything was perfect - service, food, ambiance. I highly recommend purchasing their house made salad dressing. Good leftovers are given to you in a plastic bag, like you won a goldfish at the fair. Works for us since we were camping and could put it in a fridge. Gift shop had cute items, meat, and sausage sticks. Be sure to call ahead for reservations!

Google
Lifelong Oregonian who FINALLY made it to CDT. An absolute Oregon must-do and enjoy it with lots of friends & family as the atmosphere was designed to be shared. The food is fantastic and only outdone by the fun sassy staff who go out of their way to make it fun. Doesn't matter if you choose steak or chicken... You'll have leftovers for days afterwards!!!

Yelp
Well, return visit after our enjoyable visit last year, and it was even better! Still starts with the salad with the "World's Best Honey Mustard" dressing. We had corn chowder next; I'm generally not a fan, but it was damn good! Then the entrees; no change from the excellent choices, but they've added toppings to dress up your baked potato (bacon, cheese and chives). Lastly, the nice petite dessert of cake with fresh berries has been joined by homesteader pie (think chess pie if you're a Southerner). Still cash only and they've added a bunch of stuff to their gift shop, including a freezer of 1875 Beef. Y'all need to pick up the phone and make your reservations; you'll be glad you did! And thanks for the great service, Dani!

Yelp
Cowboy Dinner tree is a fun little country restaurant in the middle of nowhere. We drove from Bend and it was quite a drive but a great experience. We had a large party (19!) and had reservations ahead of time. We took up the whole front area of the restaurant. There is a large lot for parking. A small gift shop with shirts, sweaters, cups, trinkets, and a cooler of meats. There are porta potties and actual restrooms in the restaurant. The dinner was ordered ahead of time: chicken or steak. I didn't realize there were other items that came with the dish. There was a salad, beans, bread, a potato with loaded toppings, and dessert. The dressing was some mustard dressing and ranch. The beans were like a soup-ish. The bread was soft and fluffy with a side of butter. The loaded potato had cheese, chives, and bacon crumbles. The steak was meaty tasting (seasoned with salt and pepper) and overdone. The dessert choices we had were chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake, and a butter creme brûlée pie. All the items we ate before our main dish filled me up I ended up taking much of my whole chicken home. The chicken was good a little under seasoned for me, but it was moist. The butter pie was the best desert since the strawberry shortcake needed some fluffy cream instead of a cream sauce. Service was good, the waitress was attentive to clearing items and serving drink refills. I would say their choice of drinks was lacking: water, unsweetened tea, or pink lemonade. If you aren't a drinker of one of those just know you don't have many options. The interior of the house was very old fashioned and woody. It's a small place so make sure to get reservations.

Monty K.

Yelp
This place is all about the experience. The location is remote as it's a bit of a drive from anywhere. The portions are huge and the atmosphere and service are great. You have to understand ahead of time that you are there on their terms--no credit cards, no sharing, no alcohol, no ala cart, no menu. You get your steak as they cook it. No well or medium well. Plus steak is the size of a small roast. It's so thick that there's no way to get it consistent all the way through. I could only eat about 1/4 of mine, so steak sandwiches and tacos for the rest of the week back home. Yum! I'd recommend going with a group of friends. Good conversations on the ride there and back to accompany the good food. Get reservations in advance. It was amazing to see how full the place was so far away from anyplace.

Yelp
We try to make a point of eating here every year. It's a ways outa the way, but it's good food and uniqueness make it well worth the trip. Travel south of Lapine, Oregon on hwy 97 to hwy 31 towards Reno, Nevada. It's about an hour from Lapine. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and when you call, you place your order for either steak or chicken. The steaks avg between 25-30oz, the chicken is a whole chicken. Dinner is served family style, with salad, followed by bean soup and cast iron baked rolls. Dessert follows the main course. No alcohol is served. The food is absolutely delicious, and the servers are awesome! The restaurant is apparently an old pony express stop and is definitely rugged. They have a gift shop, and outdoor activities such as horse shoes, or lassoing a wooden cow. Lastly, it is cash only. Each person is $50, children 7-13 are $11, kids under 6 are free

Yelp
They say come hungry for a reason. This place is an experience you don't want to miss. (put it on your bucket list of restaurants to visit). The food is all homemade. It has a very simple menu with only two choices for dinner. 1. Whole Chicken or 2. A Big 30 oz Ribeye Steak. And that's just the main dish The homemade rolls are the best I have ever had. The Cowboy beans were excellent. The berry shortcake was also excellent I had the homemade pink lemonade that was served in a one quart mason jar. The service and staff were great. And the Atmosphere could not be any better for the area and its history. There is a reason you leave happy! YOU MUST MAKE A RESERVATION A FEW MONTHS IN ADVANCE!

Ronnette F.

Yelp
This experience was one of the worst I've ever had. First you drive two hours and pay $50 per person then you get sat in a very dirty dining room, I don't think the health inspector makes it out there! We could not get extra rolls which in my opinion was the best part of the meal or have any corn chowder! Make sure you call ahead to get extra rolls and corn chowder instead of beans, the chicken was undercooked and my baked potato was hard. The salad had only a few pieces of carrots in it, no tomatoes or cucumbers, very disappointed in the whole experience. Our waitress was very rude and unfriendly. Many people drink out in the parking lot cause there's no alcohol available.

Yelp
Such an amazing experience!!! Definitely recommend bringing your own tuber ware container!!

Ken S.

Yelp
Food great, service great and great atmosphere, would greatly recommend it to anyone . We stayed in one of their cabins and it was comfortable and well stocked

Kylie W.

Yelp
If you haven't been or thinking about going. GO. Such a wonderful atmosphere. Steak was cooked perfectly to our liking and super tender. Tons of food! I ate 4 rolls myself

Yelp
We've wanted to try this place for years and finally did it (July 3, 2025). I won't bore you with details because this place is well-documented and the restaurant's web site has all the details. The drive from Bend is very pleasant, and would be even better in cooler weather. We arrived right at 4:00 for our reservation and were promptly seated. There were already many parties in the restaurant. The service was very friendly and efficient. There appeared to be plenty of staffing as at least three different servers came to our table. The atmosphere is best described as rustic, cozy, quaint, and fun. Everyone there is having a good time. The salad is fresh, the dressing is homemade (go with the honey mustard). The strawberry lemonade is good. The rolls are absolutely outstanding and as good as any Parker House rolls I've had at fancy restaurants. The beans are good. We both ordered steak and both of us got it prepared as desired. The default is medium rare (as it should be!) so be sure to tell them if you want different. The steaks are substantial but just good. They are not very well seasoned and, frankly, the sirloin is just not a great cut of beef. Instead of a 30-ounce sirloin, for the same price, I'd much prefer a 14-ounce ribeye. You'll have plenty of leftovers and they give you all the plastic bags (or a cup for the beans) you'll need to take things home.

Maureen T.

Yelp
We were prepared for the amount of food and had lots of leftovers for picnic lunch the next day. We stayed in cabin #1and yes, it's rustic. The star gazing can't be missed! Try to pick a clear night. We were thrilled.

Kenneth F.

Yelp
Our waitress was not friendly. She told us we were supposed to ask for our food way in advance and she gave us what she gave us with no explanation on why I don't know that I'll drive four hours to get dinner again.

Mark T.

Yelp
This is not our first visit, nor will it be our last. The food, service, ambience are all top notch. We drove 5 hours to have dinner here, and the effort is always well worth it. Steaks and chicken and local sourced and couldn't be better.

Chuck B.

Yelp
Unique setting in Oregon's Outback which is unique unto itself in myriad ways. CDT offers great food via a simple menu served in old west ambience. Servings are substantial, leftovers facilitated - bring a cooler. The staff are friendly and amazingly efficient. They've obviously been doing this for a while. This is a place I'll remember for all the right reasons.

Amber A.

Yelp
Amazing food and the atmosphere is fantastic. The waitresses are hot and over worked. They act like it is a bother for you to be there!

Yelp
Up for a 3 hour drive? Um, HELL YEAH! We come here every couple of years. Massive portions: steak/chicken, bean soup, salad w/homemade ranch or honey mustard, rolls, pink lemonade and mixed berry shortcake and cream. I could wax poetic about the food and what it tastes like, but one single word says it all, PERFECTION! We ate a ton of juicy chicken and steak AND still are taking home 2 meals.. No need to post pictures. The menu does NOT change and other Yelpers took some great ones. This 2nd generation restaurant does the "middle of nowhere" proud! Kind and warm servers (ours was the owner), happy hum of chatter in a TINY space. Don't let the $45/person scare you. It's worth a happy belly and an even happier soul. Thanks CDT!!!

Yelp
Long time ago . Great food & service from all. Recommend it highly , remember to ask them for doggy bag . Cash only.

Yelp
We visit every April with a large group. Every year we have a great time and the food is wonderful. This year was extra stellar thanks to our server, Dani! She's a gem! She engaged with everyone at our table (there were 14 of us!), was witty and on top of everything! We really hope to see her again next year!

Yelp
The Cowboy Dinner Tree is an old school steak house straight out of the back lot of a Bonaza episode. You really feel like Little Joe is going to walk over and ask how your meal is going. I like the cowboy/western vibe. The portions are - well, Fred Flinstone sized. The service is amazing - kind, sincere, attentive, and always smiling. Is this a high-end Ringside steak experience? Nope. Is it geniunely enjoyable and worth the drive. Without a doubt!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
The best steak or chicken in Oregon! Such a fun place! Bring your appetite the portions are giant! The service is very friendly and the bread and salad is amazing! Great spot to bring the entire family or party!!!!! Must go
google avatar

Char B.

Yelp
We love this little spot. Year after year and love seeing Amy. She's so good to us. Make sure and order extra rolls. And we love taking home some of their ranch dressing too. Now we look forward to the left overs for the next 2-3 days. Make a reservation soon. It's worth every penny. Make sure and give Otis and Bear some pets!
google avatar

Ron G.

Yelp
What a great experience. The food is good. I especially loved the beans! Lots of leftovers so bring a cooler! The ambience is amazing to go along with the history of the place. It's a yearly visit for me.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
4 of us fulfilling a long time bucket list road trip to eat here. Western ambiance in spades. Service good, busy. Dry chewy chicken and thick chewy sirloin are the 2 offerings here, cooked as they provide ...... Keeps it simple for them. Outstanding restaurant -made honey-mustard dressing and ranch. Just fresh-baked light rolls. One of our baked potatoes was sent back due to suspect flavor and appearance. I'll say that overall we had a fun experience, but not worth repeating. Keep it on your list for uniqueness, not culinary delights....
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Wish is was the same as 10 years ago when we were going there. No reservations, and if you were there when they closed, you got the leftovers to take home. It's become commercialized, but hopefully still good!
google avatar

Tia J.

Yelp
We ventured into Lapine on a road trip specifically to have dinner here. I had been here many years ago but my husband hadn't experienced it before so off to Lapine we went for a weekend. Make your reservations in advance. You need reservations to ensure you get a table here! Obviously the portions are huge. That's part of the experience. Bring containers for your leftovers on the ride home. If you're traveling a long distance bring a cooler. All the food is great! We ordered both the steak and the chicken so we could share and have a little of both. You won't get to order your steak the way you want it. You get what you get! If you don't like medium steak, order the chicken. It's a multiple course meal with beans, salad, rolls, main course, and dessert. The rolls happen to be my favorite part and I half filled up on them alone. Ha! You'll have a choice of lemonade or tea and salad dressing of ranch or honey mustard. If you're expecting fancy steak house type accommodations this isn't the place for you. If you want an awesome experience, in the middle of the desert, with great food, make the trip here. Don't forget to check out the gift shop before or after you eat. They have some awesome things in there and you might be able to find the cat for a quick pat on the head.

Erik C.

Yelp
Finally made it to eat here as it had been on my list for years. After arriving we were seated quickly and sat down to enjoy the ambiance. Staff was friendly and it was a fun dining experience all around. Loved the ranch dressing and rolls, steaks were flavorful and enjoyed the chicken more than I thought I would. Dessert was delicious as was the lemonade. Well worth the drive and reasonably priced for what you get.

Blake A.

Yelp
The food is as done perfectly. I was fortunate enough to have a seat outside under their awning covered table and was able to enjoy a nice breeze and overcast evening 100% would recommend this setting. The owner was serving me and boy was she willing to hustle and get me my food. There was no wait time between courses and service with a smile to someone eating alone is always a really welcome impact to help brighten someone's day. Thank you Cowboy dinner tree. I'll recommend to all my friends who travel through.

Darla D.

Yelp
In error I wrote in a previous review there was no indoor toilets, found out 2 days later there is....wondering then why was there a line to a outhouse outside? Still give it 3 stars...just wasn't worth the hype

Yelp
What can you say!! Steak in the middle of nowhere with cabins!!! It's a dream, great food, great place! Check it out!

Sue L.

Yelp
What a fun place to visit and enjoy dinner. You will have tons of leftovers, bring your ziplock bags and cooler so you can take leftovers home. Enjoy..,
google avatar

Perry And Deanna O.

Yelp
The experience is worth every penny, and then there's the great food. Steaks were massive, tender and perfectly seasoned. The chickens were juicy and perfectly seasoned. Side dishes were great. The drive to get there is beautiful as well. Service is top notch.

Yelp
The best we have been back a number of times Food and service are tops Thank You

Chris L.

Yelp
As others have said, this is an adventure and an experience. It's in the middle of nowhere, so chances are you're driving at least an hour from wherever you're staying to come eat here. And because you have to make reservations so far in advance, you also have been looking forward to this day for quite some time. It feels very authentic, out in the high desert in what looks like a log shack. Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive. The meal starts with a very fresh salad (excellent homemade ranch dressing), then out comes the amazing yeast rolls and bean soup, then the massive steaks with baked potatoes, and finally the fruit shortcake dessert. We stuffed ourselves and it was amazing. At one point a cat came over and laid down on our bench to hang out - the kids loved it. We would definitely come back here again, despite the very long drive to get there.
google avatar

Debbie L.

Yelp
Now that was one Amazing dinner!! When you first walk in you look like your walking into a big barn with Everything cowboy in it, including the barn cat! You get two choices to drink, ice tea or lemonade, lemonade is to die for. First course salad with homemade rolls, second course is bean soup. Then comes the main course, either a whole chicken or a Beautiful steak that is probably two inches thick and covers most of the plate, with a baked potato on the side! And lastly they finish you off with a shortcake with Lots of fruit. No matter how hungry you are, I promise you that you'll need a doggie bag, you'll have enough to feed your doggie and yourself for two days afterwards! Highly highly recommend, I Can't Wait to go back! Lastly, I forgot to talk about the people that work there, nicest people you'll ever meet!

Don L.

Yelp
Ate there with a group of people, and the food was not as good as I anticipated. According to the reviews this place is very good. But, I have to say I was very let disappointed. They don't ask how you like your steak. and that was the main reason why I went there was for the steak. The steak was medium to medium well. they had A1 sauce on the table. The portion of steak is huge though but I could not tell what cut it was from. The steak was a little tough and had very, little flavor. The beans were fairly bland tasting. The bread was very soft, spongy and delicious though. The salad was plain, and they only had ranch and honey mustard. But, like I said I came for the steak. The service was excellent. The only real letdown was that the steak was not what I had hoped for. Now that I tried it, I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Wow. VERY much loved this place. Had an a opportunity to BS with one of the owners and felt immediately at home in conversation with the guy. I'm kinda upset him and I aren't best friends now. LoL Aside from having super down to earth, gracious ownership... most folks come here, as I did, after hearing tall tales of a 72oz steak or a whole chicken slapped down before you with a half gallon of tea and some jars with nail holes in the lids for shakers. Welp.... They don't exactly live up to the every bit of the stuff I've heard, but I'd say they exceeded expectations anyhow. It's a pretty impressive operation they're running here. Everything comes out in a timely fashion and the food was incredible. I am very very picky about my steaks. To the point where I won't buy/eat one that wasn't prepared and cooked by this guy right here. I legitimately have not purchased a steak from any kitchen anywhere in over a decade. So I had some apprehension about this big azz hunk of meat I was buying here. Would it be flavorless? Would it be too bloody? Would it be dry? Too marbled with fat & gristle?? After the first bite all those questions were answered. Then answered a dozen more times. The steak was perfect! It was very tender and had outstanding flavor. Like every other dish they served (salad, beans, rolls, etc...), none was saturated with toppings or garnishes, but impressively plain and delicious. I did my very best to eat all the salad, the beans, the rolls, the steak, the chicken, AND drank my whole lemonade. Almost did it. I the the rolls pushed me over the top though. LoL All in all this was a fantastic experience and every bit worth the 2 decades I've spent dragging my feet and saying "some day". I'm very excited to return again on my motorcycle and say hi to my new friend again. :)

Yelp
My wife and I were going to be in the Bend area, so I made reservations here months in advance, needed. This place really is in the middle of nowhere. Great western ambiance! Two choices, a whole chicken or humongous steak, salad, Cowboy beans, rolls, and dessert; very tasty.
google avatar

Lacey M.

Yelp
Such a fun experience! 32 Oz steaks and whole chickens for one in the middle of nowhere. I recommend requesting the corn chowder!
google avatar

Jayme B.

Yelp
Excellent food great portions definitely recommend. Homemade ranch is amazing. Plus you get a full chicken.

Yelp
Had dinner there today. Food was amazing and the service was top notch. Will recommend this place.

Yelp
Global pandemics can't keep these guys down!! Quality food, friendly service and outback charm makes this a place to visit over and over again. My daughter and I finally brought the hubs here for dinner (we stop on girls weekend camping trips) and he loved it! We arrived an hour early, thinking we'd just hang out in the yard and practice our roping, but Angel was able to get us seated early, much to our delight. Kiddo stuffed a few new dollars into the ceiling as the food rolled out.. they obliged us with extra salad because the homemade ranch was SO good! Hubs never believed us when we would tell him how HUGE the steak is, and how perfectly medium rare/rare it's cooked.... When it was plunked down in front of him he was speechless... (would we lie to you babe?!) We ended up with enough food left over for another complete dinner at home the next night. (Bring a cooler if you're not staying close.) This place is a true Oregon treasure.. Visit once and you'll be hooked. A side note* Due to the pandemic and resulting chaos regarding beef prices, the steak is more expensive. Angel was kind enough to call us and let us know prior to our visit that the price had gone up. That simple act of honesty and kindness embodies the Oregon spirit.

Susan W.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here on 10/29/21 and had the best dinner! They serve green salad with Ranch or Honey Mustard dressing, then the Cowboy Beans and homemade rolls come out. Then they bring out the meat of choice (ours was steak) and baked potato. Our dinner was amazingly delicious! For dessert, they served a shortcake covered with strawberries and marionberries with whipped cream. Since they do not have a liquor license, your beverages to choose from is coffee, water, ice tea or pink lemonade. The staff was very friendly. Since this is about an hour South of Bend, Oregon, you will need to bring a cooler to put your leftovers in (we drove 5 hours for this dinner!) if you do not live near. After dinner, we toured the gift shop and then stayed in one of the 4 cabins they rent. Our cabin was so cute! We will definitely come back here again.

Yelp
Cowbow Dinner Tree served me a really bad steak, the worst I've ever had. It was only the second time I've ever sent a plate back to the kitchen. My impressively thick steak was dry, tough and full of gristle. After chewing on two successive mouthfuls and not being able to swallow them, I had to spit them out. When I forked through the rest of my steak it was marbled with inedible sinew. The host was apologetic, did not charge me and offered to put another steak on the grill for me, to eat in or take home. Sadly, my appetite for another medium-rare steak had been put off by the experience and a cold, take-home steak did not appeal to me -- so I declined. I was pretty unhappy about wasting my time and money making the pilgrimage -- a six hour round trip from Medford -- to what I thought was one of Oregon's best steakhouses. Their dinner rolls, on the other hand, were fresh, soft, slightly sweet and 100% delicious. The beans a bit soupy and the green salad, although very basic, was fresh. Not sure that either of their generous sides are necessary with such a large steak to come. The restaurant is situated out in ranch country and the decor is cattleman-quaint. Service is efficient and friendly. Their steak knives could do with sharpening. Reservations required and payment is cash only. I gave them three stars for trying to make things right. Hopefully your dining experience will be better than mine.

Yelp
I had dinner here 2 weeks ago with 3 friends and my man friend for his birthday. He lives in Sandy so it's quite a hall but we made a weekend of it and camped in Redmond. What an experience! The food was sooo good! The atmosphere was perfect, the service and staff were wonderful! We had so much food left that we cut up the leftover steak the next night and reheated it in the smoker, it was still just as good! You start with a really good, fresh salad, yummy rolls with whipped butter, then the beans (so freaking good, then your meat and a baked potato. Follow it all up with whatever dessert they serve. The coffee was really tasty too. If you've been thinking about going, make your reservation and go!!

Yelp
SUMMARY: This place awesome!!! Out in the middle of podunk Oregon (Silver Lake).... this is a spot reminiscent of the olden days gone by. 3 hours outside of Eugene and I am told 1.5 hours outside of Bend. It is an experience so don't expect white linens etc... that is NOT this place. I gave it 5 stars because service, food, ambiance, and the experience were all worth it! DETAILS: Story is the Cowboys used to stop here to eat before heading out to the range for days. My understanding is no electricity and everything is cooked in/on a wood stove!! Beautiful drive there... Cute little gift shop to get some local made items while waiting for the doors to open -- because they don't open before 4 PM.... We were greeted, once seated, by our server -- Holly --- WHO IS AMAZING AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Price Fixe menu basically (cash or checks only -- no CC) -- $30 pp... Drinks are included and you can choose from unsweetened iced tea, pink lemonade, coffee, or water all served in quart mason jars! And refilled quickly too.... You pre-order dinner when you make the required reservations...Your choice is steak or chicken. Steak is a 24-30 oz Steak... Chicken is a whole chicken -- think Costco Rotisserie chicken... The dinner starts with an awesome green salad. There really isn't much to it -- lettuce, cabbage and carrots... but I'll be darned if it was so freaking YUMMY! Homemade Buttermilk Ranch or Honey Mustard (with Cumin) dressings which are both awesome. They are both delivered with your bowl of salad. This is a family style restaurant for each table. Next was fresh yeast rolls and "cowboy beans" soup... The yeast rolls are to die for -- so light and fluffy and freshly made. I think they may use unsalted butter so I may bring my own butter when we come back but other than that -- YUMMY! The cowboy bean soup has the same seasoning as the steak and chicken. They keep it consistent for your palette. I definitely think everyone should try this as it is also YUMMY!!! Then either an entire chicken or a (24-30 oz) steak with a baked potato are delivered as ordered... I swear to goodness -- this steak was one of the leanest moistest and tender steaks I have had and it is roast size -- so you know that is hard to do. The steaks are all cooked the same unless you ask for them to be more well done. The chicken is great -- but since rotisserie chickens are available for such a great deal at Costco I would always recommend the steak! The meal itself is followed by a light berry shortcake dessert. Its light and refreshing to the palette. Service was awesome from Holly -- not only was she uber pleasant but she was ON THE BALL and kept the meal rolling right along. She refilled our drinks immediately and made us feel like part of the family. We liked her so much we requested her on our next visit! Don't be afraid to ask for more salad etc if you want it... BRING BAGS/CONTAINERS for leftovers.. I ate like a pig and still had 1/2 my steak left... Extremely delightful and such a fun day!!! Brought a ton of food home....We liked our first experience so much in September that we booked another experience in October.... my mouth is already watering!

Yelp
With my bday toward the beginning of the month and the hubs being toward the end, it's always nice when we can do something to combine them. Several months ago we made reservations at The Cowboy Dinner Tree and last night was the night! We drove a couple hours to get there. Upon arriving at our cabin, I started videoing our surroundings when I heard a cat meowing. He came running over to our cabin and invited himself in....where he stayed until we got home from dinner. We tried to convince him to go on his way, or at least go potty, all to which he said, no thanks! While at dinner we found out his name is Bear, he never left the cabin. He slept in bed with us and this morning promptly started telling us it was breakfast time, so we gave him more chicken, lol. SHHHHHH...don't tell anyone It was sad to leave him but we are pretty sure he has an awesome life on their working ranch. While at dinner we had another guest visit us and take a nap on the chair at our table. The food and experience were amazing! You choose either beef, a 26 Oz (at least) sirloin, or a whole chicken. We had reserved one of each and they did not disappoint! They started us off with salad, then brought cowboy beans and rolls. Then the main courses, and at the end a strawberry pound cake, which we started eating before we got the pic The sky was so clear there, the stars seemed so close like we could reach out and touch them. We were going to get more pics this AM, but with it being 13 degrees we decided we just needed to get packed up and headed home. We will def go back, but when it stays lighter longer so we can walk around, look at the horses and cows and walk dinner off instead of going back to the cabin and suffering after a huge meal, lol. Needless to say, we brought a bunch of food home with us!!
