8/30/2024 3 adults for dinner. Iced tea and water for beverages. Mushrooms for appetizer. Side salad with Bleu cheese. Beer cheese burger cooked medium with crispy fries, 1/2 herbed chicken with potato, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes. All the dishes were very good. Service was prompt. Water was served as soon as we were seated. We had been driving all day, and we were parched. We never had to ask for a refill on beverages. This is always a plus for us. Victoria promptly approached, was friendly, made recommendations for appetizer, and provided add'l information about meals. When Victoria brought our meals, our chins hit the table. Portions are ginormous. To go boxes required for chicken and meatloaf. Would we return? Definitely. Most tourist areas, services, and food must be taken by lowering one's expectations. I happy to say, our expectations were far exceeded. Thank you Victoria and Cowfish.

I keep forgetting to write this review for Zach (Manager, Server, Busser, Hostess, Bartender). My husband and I are regulars at his restaurant—sometimes it’s just the two of us, and other times we come with friends and family. Zach truly is a jack of all trades and is always busy doing something. Every time, he impresses us with his outstanding customer service, friendly smile, and willingness to step in wherever he’s needed. Cowfish is definitely lucky to have him! I believe Zach is truly the face of the place. He consistently goes above and beyond in everything he does. Keep up the amazing work, Zach—you rock!

We have been in the Cowfish/Lander Brewing before and we enjoyed it and as we passed through on September 10th we gave it a try again. We had ribs and the tenderloins tips. The ribs were alright, overpriced for what you get, but the tips in the pasta were pretty good. Plus we like going to brewpubs and trying different beers and the On Belay IPA was worth it. We sat at the little two person table, #46, right by the door when you come into the bar area. Two different young men came with our food and beer. Both very polite and friendly. The issue comes with our server. I won't put her name down but her first name starts with a "C". She brought us bread and our food, and after that we were put on ignore. Not once, and I mean not once, did she ask us how our food was, or if we needed more water or another beer. I couldn't count how many times she went by us with or without anything in her hands. She didn't even look at us. We usually like to stay and have another drink but with the service that we didn't receive we chose to leave and go somewhere else to finish off our evening.

Google
4.8 stars! Delicious jumbo shrimp and winter warmer beers that were positively perfect for the February weather. These were the best and biggest shrimp I have ever had, they seemed more like a half dozen chicken drumsticks. I thought there could have been more fries with the meal but otherwise super friendly service, calming atmosphere and a good time. Will visit again if back in Lander!

We were told by a lot of locals that this place was expensive and fancy. So we thought that the portions would be small and that it’d cost $300 for dinner. Not true. Nice sized portions. Not incredibly expensive. Also not fancy to the point you should dress all the way up. Which was nice too. Service was fast and good. The rainbow trout was incredible and so was the ribeye with the fancy tatters lol.

We've never been to this quaint and very welcoming restaurant. My goodness, but this is a true diamond 💎 in the rough. How does 5-star food, service and atmosphere sound in a small, tucked away town in the mountains of Wyoming? We've been sharing wedge salads for decades (see pic) but never imagined a dish so satisfying and so flavorful. And that was just the beginning. Our entire meal and experience was top-of-the-line and so memorable. Oh yeah, we'll be back!

Google
Good food and great service. I think the portion size did not match the price point. The beef in the cow tip pasta seemed pretty low quality. Carrot cake was really good and memorable.

Totally loved it - all good, could squeze us in despite full house :) thx

Yelp
Able to visit Cowfish and got in before the dinner rush. This place does fill up quickly during dinner. I had the center cut fillet and it basically melted in my mouth. Alexis was my server and did a fantastic job of taking care of me while also caring for her other tables. If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping in. #thanksunclejoe

Yelp
$41.15 (food - crispy brussel sprouts, bison ravioli sugo. drink - water) Cowfish monologue: I've had brussel sprouts before. I've had ravioli before. How different can my dining experience at Cowfish really be?! The answer, inspirationally different. The restaurant was attractive. There were several options to choose from for your ambiance of choice, to include outdoor dining. I ate at the bar and enjoyed my time chatting with the bartenders. As far as the food, well, the brussel sprouts were soooo crispy and tasty. But what was different about these sprouts, there were cute little apple pieces sprinkled on my plate. I finished every crisp, sprout and apple on my plate. It was actually enough to be a meal all by itself, that's of course if you weren't starving like I was. Which leads me to the main course. The bison ravioli sugo. This dish came with, I think macadamia nuts. This dish was certainly not something I would have expected to have and thoroughly enjoy in Lander. But here I was, enjoying every time the fork rose to my mouth to place bison meat wrapped in a pasta pocket covered in sauce right onto my taste buds. Yum, yum and you need to go. I was so full and satisfied. P.S. - Next time I visit, I'll have to order the drink "vesper". Several of those were being made while I sat at the bar enjoying my meal. The fragrance was, well, fragrant.

Yelp
Excellent food, and good service. Ordered a Negroni after dinner and it was exactly as expected. Everything was very good, down to the smallest detail. Steak was done exactly as ordered. Nice atmosphere and very good wait staff.

Jason J.

Yelp
This is a popular place, so you'll need to get a reservation. Off the main road, downtown. Casual atmosphere and a bit crowded and noisy. Food was good. Not the best ever but great for the area. Service was very mediocre. It was hard to get them to come back except to take our initial order and bring the bill. They seemed stressed and overworked and trying to handle to many different customers.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner after a long drive, and it was incredible! The pasta was al dente (perfectly cooked) and the sauce with the cilantro and lime was amazing. I'm not even a fan of beef and the meat was phenomenal. I am super impressed. The ambiance was nice and the service was great. The beer and local burger were also fantastic. We ended up getting a six pack for the road. Would totally recommend the cheesecake. Everything was great.

Yelp
Got into town later then planned. This is one of the few restaurants that were open after 9pm. We were seated quickly in the restaurant section, not the bar area. The decor is nice and the place is spotless. Super clean. Server was on point. I told her my food limitations and she accommodated them right away. I started with the mushrooms and got the chicken salad with Salmon substitute. My wife got a burger. The mushrooms were phenomenal! The salad was good. The salmon needed a bit more seasoning but it was still good. My wife really enjoyed her burger. Really pleased with this place and would come back for sure.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times now, and if I had completed this review immediately after my first visit, I certainly would've given Cowfish 5 stars. I had the Pan-Fried Rainbow Trout and it was out-of-this-world. The crispy golden-brown trout laid upon artichoke hearts swimming in a lemon-garlic beurre blanc sauce was the best meal I have had at a restaurant in a long time. I was blown away by the depth of flavor and textures that one dish could have. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Half-Tanked Hefe, a wheat beer brewed in house. After my first trip, I couldn't stop thinking about that meal, and the next I went, lived up to my expectations. During the following visit I ordered the Beer Cheese Burger, which I found lacking in flavor and heavy on the bacon. My most recent trip, I got the trout once again, and this time something was off. The sauce was too sour and it was not quite as good. Throughout my trips here I have also gotten the side salad which tasted fantastic with pickled red onions and a white balsamic vinaigrette, though it was on the pricy side at $6. The desserts are decent here as well, but not as good as the main dishes. I enjoyed the cheesecake with blueberry compote and the carrot cake with candied carrots and walnuts, but they did not blow me away. Regardless, the food is great and the staff are as well. I typically sit at the bar and each bartender has been friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is terrific as well with the brewing area in the dining room as well as an outdoor section perfect for fall days. Overall, I think Cowfish is my favorite restaurant in Lander so far and I am sure I'll be back.

Yelp
I have had many excellent dinners here, but this one was so disappointing. It really needs to be addressed by the management. I was at the Cowfish 2 nights ago and decided to try the meatloaf. It arrived on an oblong plate. It was a heap of mashed potatoes topped by two slices of dry meatloaf on a thin schmeer of some kind of thin sauce, with a few "crispy" fried onions piled on top. The onions were not crispy but instead, soft and very greasy. All of this was pushed to the right side of the plate, leaving the entire left side bare making you wonder what they had forgotten to put there? It amounted to a heap of dry potatoes, topped by dry meatloaf. No sauce, no gravy to speak of and it cost me $29.00. Okay. It could have been a bad night, but yesterday, I talked to a friend who had dinner there a few weeks ago and she mentioned what a disappointment the meatloaf was. Her description was identical to my experience. Neither of us had ordered it before and we agreed that we will never order it again. On the upside, the service was excellent! I also tried the new ginger beer that they are making and other than a bit sweeter than I would prefer, it was very good and very gingery. I took a six-pack home.

Yelp
This place is expensive, but this place is worth it. They have beautiful outdoor dining and are connected to a bunch of other fabulous Lander restaurants/bars. Service was excellent and they brew their own beers (I think? Hard to tell if they ARE a brewery or just host a brewery?) Beers were solid, but not the type the blow your hair back and make you get 4 growlers to go. This place is expensive, but this place is worth it. Yelp
HAVE AGAIN: The trout with artichoke hearts was delicious but too many hearts! Best of all was the very best chocolate mousse since Paris! Great service

Tami W.

Yelp
Had the beer batter shrimp from pub menu and wedge salad - both were amazing. Cucumber melon margarita was a hit also. Husband had the Cow Tenderloin Tips and they were also amazing - would definitely eat here again when we are in the area.

Nunya B.

Yelp
The place is nice, upscale with a bar. The service was good but the food is not what I expected for an upscale restaurant. The bread they give you was hard as a rock and was uneatable. Our entrees were less desirable. Our steak was overcooked, supposed to be medium rare but came out medium well. We were compensated 20 percent of the $40 steak price for this. The shrimp we ordered was good but that was about it. I don't know if I would come back since it was an expensive place to eat at.

Marilyn W.

Yelp
I'd been hearing about this restaurant from friends, so off we went for a birthday celebration. Service was great and the food exceptional. Fresh and yummy ingredients. A bit of fusion. And all beautifully presented. A varied an interesting menu.

Josie R.

Yelp
We were turned away at the door. About 10-12 empty tables. Looking at the menu, food was a bit overpriced. We wouldn't know if it was worth it since they wouldn't even give us a table.

Mark M.

Yelp
This is an excellent place to eat --menu is great--you will be hard pressed to find a restaurant that is as good

Taylor R.

Yelp
We come here often & it is so consistent! Great service and amazing food and drinks! 12/10 recommend. Even if they are busy you can guarantee amazing, quick service and the same great food. Their spicy cucumber cilantro margarita is unmatched! Also highly recommend the cow tenderloin tips pasta, stuffed mushroom appetizer and egg rolls.

Carla N.

Yelp
Great food and service. Atmosphere is great Always look forward to dining there. Good pricing for food

James W.

Yelp
Delicious food. More pricey than your typical sit down place but that's expected for this area.

Mama J.

Yelp
Amazing food, courteous staff, down home hospitality. Great place for a solo dinner, date night or to celebrate with friends.

Fran K.

Yelp
I had the Tuna Shasimi, it was a good size portion for the appetizer, the tuna itself had a weird texture, but still ok, I don't think I'll order that again. The fish and chips were my main course, the fish looked like it was taken straight from the fryer, on the newspaper liner in the basket, so the breading was soaked in grease, so it was soggy, the fish was bland, it didn't taste like there was any seasoning at all, and the fries were shoestring, very bland, maybe try something like truffle fries, or duck fat fries, put some seasoning on there. Prices have gone up since the last time i was there, with the ribeye at $45, appetizer, entree, and 2 beer at $60 , not including the tip.

Jason G.

Yelp
Always tasty food as long as you don't order food from the ocean 1000 miles away. Great people, very friendly, killer beer and very reasonable wine selection. Couple of times a month dinner place and always take out of town guests. And I hope they make the carrot cake cause it's perfect!

Ritu R.

Yelp
Broke up our road trip from Denver to Yellowstone w an overnight in lander! This place in the moon travel guide for Montana and Wyoming. Then read about this joint on Google, yelp and TripAdvisor and It lived up to all its accolades and reviews! Unique flavors and foodie heaven , this casual classy Gastro pub. Started with a pisco sour! What a delightful find in small town Wyoming! We were in Chile this time last year and that was a national drink! Moving on... we started with the muscles and they were delicious. Just the right amount of heat. My husband had the ribeye and I had the orrchitte pasta. Both were unique and flavorful. What a delightful way to end our first day in vacay!

Zak P.

Yelp
Ate here once in three years. The greeter was disintrested and looked frustrated. There was a dentist chair in front of the door I guess for ambience. It was really a trip hazard and eventually someone did trip. I sat on the balcony on the courtyard I guess. I thought that was enjoyable. We liked the starter. It was muscles in wine sauce. It was very good as was the bread. I ordered ribs which seemed like they were reheated in a microwave. Not hot all the way through and forgettable. The service was average for a busy Friday night. I took quite awhile to eat because it was busy.

Scotty F.

Yelp
Great spot in Lander if you are in the area. The decor is interesting and brings the building to life. The food was fantastic and service was just as good! Had the grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich....very yumm.

Charla P.

Yelp
Great service Love eating on the patio Unique menu What a great story about Cowfish.

Michael M.

Yelp
Over priced and not very good food . It just seems like you get same quality of food at cheaper restaurants. The service is good I will give them that .

Traci L.

Yelp
Recently enjoyed the trout. I cannot explain how delicious it was. Highly recommend. Spent some time at the bar waiting for our friends to arrive and the bartender was very pleasant and helpful. Can't wait to go again.

Karen D.

Yelp
Food is average and it's hit or miss on service. Would go back and try again, but for the price other places I prefer.

Leslie F.

Yelp
Food was incredible! Service was outstanding! This place is definitely worth a stop when in Lander. We will be back! Wonderful dinner.

Lia V.

Yelp
This place was EXCELLENT! The ambiance is dark and romantic. I LOVE the bathrooms (the sinks are little kegs)! The food was delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. This is a great choice for a nice meal out.

Raymond B.

Yelp
Traveling through town to my other house in Dubois and stopped here for a quick dinner. Had the Tagliatelle pasta dish and the Wedge salad which were good but not great. The Wedge was flavorful and had lots of blu cheese which I like but sometimes too much dressing can ruin a salad. The tagliatelle pasta did say spicy which is what it is, a good bit of spice. I'm not afraid of spicy food but I wasn't sure if this was Thai spicy or simple spicy. I was hoping the main dish would have had more shrimp and a bigger piece of fish, which was over cooked and small. I wasn't impressed with the dish. Beyond the dish the bread was very hard, and I had to soak it in the oil and wine vinegar to break it down so I could eat it. The service was ok but after the food was placed I couldn't get the staffs attention to refill my beer or water. Also, at the end of the meal he didn't ask for dessert just placed the ticket and left. I guess they don't up sell dessert here.

Susi P.

Yelp
#IjustcantYelpit AMAZING! Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Our waitress was awesome. What's her name? Nice bottle of wine (2 bottles). Roasted garlic and warm artisan bread. So good. Pork shank roasted all day. Tender and juicy. Warm spinach salad with dates and hazelnuts. The best I've ever had. Carrot cake to go because we were stuffed but couldn't refuse. Definitely #worthit #cleanedmyplate

Rachel S.

Yelp
The service was good. But the food was all barely warm and small portions. It was very overpriced and nothing special.

Angel B.

Yelp
Fun and yummy. This is where my hubby and I go when we want a night out. The food is consistently good. The wait staff is generally great, but you might get a lackluster waiter once in a while. Lander Brewing Company is on tap, and they have some really good drinks.

Dennis M.

Yelp
Great meal and great atmosphere. Baby baby ribs were tasty, meaty., and falling off the bones. Haddock Fish and chips were nicely prepared and fresh. Highly recommend the southwest spring rolls, delicious; oh and I can't forget the beers- l Liked them so much we bought 14 bottles for home.

Lee D.

Yelp
We want to start off by saying that we are regulars at Cowfish and Gannett Grill. They both have wonderful food and service. We called at 4:30 to make a reservation for the patio. They said they didn't have a table available until 7:30 and we said that would be fine. When we arrived, we were met by a nice young lady who seemed to be confused on why our table was not ready. She let us know she could seat us in the dining room but we really were looking forward to the patio being that is what we asked for and the weather is so beautiful this time of year. A man stepped up to the counter to answer the phone as I was asking if we sat in the dining room, could she please come and get us when a table on the patio became available? She was saying, of course if a table becomes available she would get us but she was cut off by the rude man interrupting us from his phone call to let us know that the patio tables are first come first serve. We were never told that when making the reservation. We went ahead and took the dining room table, still flabbergasted at his response to us. He came right over to the table with a antagonistic attitude. Raising his voice, which was completely uncalled for. Working in hospitality for many year's, myself, you would think that he would have come over offering an apology for the confusion and how to resolve the issue to keep loyal customers Happy but Instead, He let us know his name was Zack. And that he was the manager and told us to leave! It was completely unprofessional. We were looking forward to a lovely night out so we de-escalated the situation. The service was outstanding and our food was delicious!!! The management was literally the only issue we had. Being a local, there isn't a lot of options when it comes to good food and entertainment but I will tell you we will not deal with poor management.

Ed W.

Yelp
It has been our go to spot for quite a few years. Rarely were we ever disappointed. Not like you have much of a choice in a small town so all and all it would rate well anywhere. I suggest the roasted Brussels Sprouts for a starter. The rest of the menu varies over the year but there is always something good to eat. Grab a in-house brewed beer to wash it down with.

Sharna H.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. It gives restaurants in Beverly hills a run for their money soooooo yummy.

Rhonda G.

Yelp
Fifty to sixty five dollars per person. Microbrews. Rib eye is great. My favorite appetizer are the southwest chicken egg rolls!

Lori A.

Yelp
Yummm The trout was delightful. Super light panco coating and delicious flavour.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
DeLICIOUS omgggg, we were road-tripping from LA and so in need of real, non fast/rest stop food and ommmmmg did Cowfish deliver. The Rainbow trout was insane, the prices are a little high for Wyoming imo but portions are good, food comes fast, there was live music (!!), it's a brewery and the food was really yummy

Stacie P.

Yelp
Just had our first meal at Cowfish. The food was delicious with great presentation. We had a wonderful server who gave us great recommendations.

Barry S.

Yelp
My wife and I thought we would treat ourselves to a nice dinner on our vacation. What a treat it was! We were surprised by this offering in Lander. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was fantastic! I had bison ravioli - was not able to finish- nice portion. My wife had scallops and risotto. The scallops were huge, not what we expected in middle of Wyoming. Top it off with tasty brew from Lander brewery, great experience.

Stephen K.

Yelp
After hiking to the falls up at Sinks Canyon, a Wy State Park, we were hungry for some Wyoming steaks. We headed into the fun town of Lander to the "Cowfish". There was a bar with delicious pizza and burgers and a fun energetic environment next door to Cowfish. We were looking for something different and a little calmer because the falls up at Sinks Canyon had us in a zen like state. The outdoor seating was an option worth thinking about but we chose the indoor seating . The atmosphere inside the Cowfish was very chic and upscale without forgetting the Lander hard work Hometown feel. Victoria and Alisha, our wait staff for the evening, served us with their down home Wyoming Flair. The 16 oz ribeye was flavored responsibly with a dry coffee rub and was Spectacular to the end. Paired with garlic and cream cheese mashed potatoes and a hefty sprig of broccolini that was perfectly steamed which is not the case in other finer establishments . The service was fast and efficient but not without those moments of genuine fun interactions that separated the finest waitstaff from the rest.. We also tried the beef tips with pasta and the 8oz filet which we're also wonderfully prepared. The Cowfish is a place that shines in the charming town of Lander,Wy, on your way to the Tetons and Yellowstone.

Tony M.

Yelp
We're visiting from Southern California and wanted to try some local cuisine. We read about this place on Yelp and decided we'd give it a try. Because we're in the middle of a pandemic, we decided to go with takeout. As good as this meal was, I can only imagine how much better it would be dining in. The restaurant looked fun and cool inside -- a really nice atmosphere. As a former restaurant manager, I'm very particular about service. Despite the restaurant being busy, the young man who served us greeted us promptly and made us feel welcome. He took our order and made some great suggestions. The meals were prepared and ready so quickly that we were surprised. I had the flank steak and my husband had the rainbow trout. We also had the brussels sprouts with almonds, green apples and Parmesan cheese as an appetizer. everything was cooked to perfection and overflowing with flavor. One thing we noticed was that all of the portion sizes were very generous. Even the side salad was excellent with lots of carrots, cucumbers and picked onions. We've been on vacation for about a week now and this was one of the best meals we've had.

Laura C.

Yelp
Woohoo! This place is great! Whenever we travel up to Wyoming we ALWAYS stop here for some grub. This time around we had the Breakfast Burritos and they were right on point. They have black beans, potatoes, cheese, eggs, and salsa. The coffee is also a must, they have a wonderful blend that will wake you up and keep you going for the duration of your journey. Because it is a microbrewery, we normally get Crawlers which are fun and nice to share. The selection is broad and yummy. When you're in town, you must stop!

JackE D.

Yelp
The first night we just stopped in for drinks. The bartender was amazing and the drinks were fantastic. The next night we had dinner in the restaurant. The presentation was very nice. However the food was not great tasting. The appetizer shrimp was just spicy nothing great and the Brussel sprouts were now crispy enough. Fish tacos were dry. Crem Brule was not great either The best things we ordered were the rib eye, beer cheese burger and fries. Our waitress was nice and friendly but was more concerned with getting her shift work done instead of taking our dirty dishes off our table or bringing boxes. She just kept piling our food on top of our dirty dishes yuk. This was the worst part of our meal was being served our desert with my partially eaten ceaser and ALL of our other dirty diahes still sitting in front of me. Probably won't come back here.

Jen D.

Yelp
I was visiting a good friend when she brought me to Cowfish. I have to say that everything, across the board, was excellent. The atmosphere, the service, the drinks, and the food. First we started with cocktails - I can't remember the names now but all three were phenomenal. Not too sweet, not too strong, but got the job done! We ordered the meatloaf and the tenderloin tip pasta. Both were amazing. The meatloaf, don't tell her I said this, is better than my moms. That's a hard fight to win! The sauce paired perfectly and the meat was perfectly cooked. Same with the pasta. Last we tried the absolute perfect piece of carrot cake. Like I said l, everything was truly wonderful. This is a gem in Lander and the town is lucky to have the amazing staff and chefs!

John T.

Yelp
I'm here on business. I love this place. I just had a HUGE side salad with Blue cheese dressing (blue cheese crumbles on top of the dressing on the side. Then a giant chunk of blue cheese at the bottom of the side! So freaking good. Now I'm working on the Flank Steak with black beans, bacon & corn succotash. Fresh asparagus, an amazing citrus dipping sauce topped with cilantro & a fresh lime. This is the best flank steak I've ever eaten in my life! I have Victoria as my server, she was super friendly when I came in, got me water & bread asap. She gave me some recommendations & highly recommended the flank steak. Boy am I glad I listened to her! Wow, just wow! Amazing service, food & atmosphere. Made my day after driving 5 hours. Go here if you are in Lander. I would give it 6 stars if I could!!!
